Abstract In the context of close-distance coal seam mining, the stress transfer mechanism following the extraction of the upper coal seam is crucial for the layout of roadways in the lower coal seam. This study utilizes ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to analyze the stability and plastic zone extent of residual coal pillars after upper seam extraction. A theoretical model for the stress distribution of multiple goaves and coal pillars was established. Based on a case study with variable inter-seam spacing, the stress distribution and transfer mechanisms of the floor were analyzed. The results indicate that during the transition from the center of the coal pillar to the goaf, stress concentration initially decreases significantly and then gradually returns to the original rock stress, forming a distinct stress gradient distribution. As the depth of the floor strata increases, the weight of the overlying strata is more evidently transferred through the coal pillars to the goaf. Finally, a reasonable layout range for the lower seam mining roadways under different inter-seam spacings is proposed, providing a reference for optimizing roadway layout in similar geological conditions.

Abstract Pluripotent stem cells have remarkable self-renewal capacity: the ability to proliferate indefinitely while maintaining the pluripotent identity essential for their ability to differentiate into almost any cell type in the body. To investigate the interplay between these two aspects of self-renewal, we perform four parallel genome-scale CRISPR-Cas9 loss-of-function screens interrogating stem cell fitness in hPSCs and the dissolution of primed pluripotent identity during early differentiation. These screens distinguish genes with distinct roles in pluripotency regulation, including mitochondrial and metabolism regulators crucial for stem cell fitness, and chromatin regulators that control pluripotent identity during early differentiation. We further identify a core set of genes controlling both stem cell fitness and pluripotent identity, including a network of chromatin factors. Here, unbiased screening and comparative analyses disentangle two interconnected aspects of pluripotency, provide a valuable resource for exploring pluripotent stem cell identity versus cell fitness, and offer a framework for categorizing gene function.

BackgroundIntegrating technology with rural development is essential for addressing the unique challenges faced by aging populations in rural areas. China’s national rural revitalization strategy emphasizes the importance of developing characteristic towns that focus on health and wellness demands, particularly for the older adults. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding the systematic use of technology to support the health and daily living needs of this demographic.ObjectiveThis study aims to bridge this gap by proposing a wireless sensor network (WSN)-based system that integrates health monitoring and smart home assistance, specifically tailored for older adults residents in sports and wellness towns.MethodsThe system’s design involves collecting and analyzing historical activity data and basic physiological parameters from older adults residents’ homes. The data are cleaned, combined and stored to prepare it for behavior analysis, which is vital for controlling smart home equipment. Preliminary health assessments are conducted using the collected physiological data. A hybrid network leveraging Sub-G and Wi-Fi technologies is optimized for the purposes of collecting and uploading data, based on a comparative analysis of wireless communication options.SignificanceThis study significantly contributes to the advancement of sports and wellness towns by promoting healthy aging through cutting-edge technological solutions.

The fabric‐based pneumatic exosuit is now a hot research topic because it is lighter and softer than traditional exoskeletons. Existing research focuses more on the mechanical properties of the exosuit (e.g., torque and speed), but less on its wearability (e.g., appearance and comfort). This work presents a new design concept for fabric‐based pneumatic exosuits: volume transfer, which means transferring the volume of pneumatic actuators beyond the garment's profile to the inside. This allows for a concealed appearance and a larger stress area while maintaining adequate torques. In order to verify this concept, a fabric‐based pneumatic exosuit is developed for knee extension assistance. Its profile is only 26 mm and its stress area wraps around almost half of the leg. A mathematical model and simulation is used to determine the parameters of the exosuit, avoiding multiple iterations of the prototype. Experiment results show that the exosuit can generate a torque of 7.6 Nm at a pressure of 90 kPa and produce a significant reduction in the electromyography activity of the knee extensor muscles. It is believed that volume transfer can be utilized prevalently in future fabric‐based pneumatic exosuit designs to achieve a significant improvement in wearability.

The refinement of bainitic ferrite laths is one of the most critical ways to improve the combination of strength and ductility. However, low-temperature bainitic transformations in the microstructural evolution of carbide-free bainite in high-carbon steels cause challenges for both the manufacture of coils and their application in car bodies. In this study, deformation-induced bainite refinement was proposed for refining bainite and retained austenite laths using a combination of ausforming and austempering in low-carbon low-alloy steel. The deformed austenite supplied more nucleation sites for bainitic transformation and suppressed the thickening of the bainitic ferrite laths by strengthening the surrounding untransformed austenite. A tensile strength of 1283 MPa and total elongation of 23.6% were obtained in the steel with an ausforming strain of 40% before austempering. The significant increase in strength was mainly attributed to the refinement of the bainitic ferrite laths and the high accumulation of dislocations within both the bainitic ferrite and retained austenite. The more stable retained austenite improved the sustainable work-hardening capability via the continuous transformation-induced plasticity effect.

Hydrophone is a key component of marine seismic exploration systems, divided into a scalar hydrophone and vector hydrophone. The electrochemical vector hydrophone has attracted much attention due to its high sensitivity and low-frequency detection capability. With the development of noise reduction technology, high-frequency noise has been effectively suppressed, while low-frequency noise is still difficult to control, which has become a key issue in the monitoring of underwater target radiation noise. The traditional electrochemical vector hydrophone based on the molecular electron transfer (MET) principle is limited in the working bandwidth in the low-frequency band, which affects the detection capability of low-frequency radiation signals from underwater targets. In order to solve this problem, a frequency response extension method of a MET electrochemical vector hydrophone based on dynamic feedback network is proposed. By introducing a dynamic force balance negative feedback system based on a digital signal processor (DSP), the working bandwidth of the hydrophone is extended, and the detection capability of low-frequency signals is enhanced. At the same time, the system has field adjustability and can resist the long-term system frequency characteristic drift. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively improves the frequency response performance of the electrochemical vector hydrophone, providing a new technical solution for its application in the monitoring of low-frequency radiation noise from underwater targets.

This study aims to enhance the precision of analyzing athlete behavior characteristics, thereby optimizing sports training and competitive strategies. This study introduces an innovative Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) clustering model designed to address the high-dimensional clustering issues in athlete behavior data by simulating the path selection mechanism of ants searching for food. The development process of this model includes fine-tuning ACO parameters, optimizing for features specific to sports data, and comparing it with traditional clustering algorithms, and similar research models based on the neural network, support vector machines, and deep learning. The results indicate that the ACO model significantly outperforms the comparison algorithms in terms of silhouette coefficient (0.72) and Davies-Bouldin index (1.05), demonstrating higher clustering effectiveness and model stability. Particularly noteworthy is the recall rate (0.82), a key performance indicator, where the ACO model accurately captures different behavioral characteristics of athletes, validating its effectiveness and reliability in athlete behavior analysis. The innovation lies not only in the application of the ACO algorithm to address practical issues in the field of sports but also in showcasing the advantages of the ACO algorithm in handling complex, high-dimensional sports data. However, its generality and efficiency on a larger scale or different types of sports data still need further validation. In conclusion, through the introduction and optimization of the ACO clustering model, this study provides a novel and effective approach for a deeper understanding and analysis of athlete behavior characteristics. This study holds significant importance in advancing sports science research and practical applications.

Obtaining the excellent resistance spot welding (RSW) properties of press hardened steel is a challenge due to the high strength with 2GPa-grade. In this study, the microstructure, mechanical properties of the RSW weld in 2GPa-grade PHS and galvanized DP980 steel were investigated. During the single pulse welding, the coarse columnar martensite is generated in the fusion zone (FZ). The low peak load is 13.2 kN for tensile-shear (TS) loading and 3.4 kN for cross-tension (CT) loading and the corresponding failure energy is 6.5 J and 16.7 J, respectively. The fracture mode under two loading conditions is partial thickness-partial pullout (PT-PP) mode. To enhance mechanical properties, the suitable double pulse welding was applied. Compared with that of the single pulse weld, double pulse weld has three special zones in FZ: the Re-melted FZ with columnar martensite, the recrystallization zone (RX-zone) with equiaxed martensite and the tempering zone (T-zone) with tempered columnar martensite. The peak load under the TS and CT loading is significantly improved by 39 pct and 44 pct and the failure energy for TS loading is enhanced by 38 pct and 186 pct for CT loading, respectively. The failure mode changes from the PT-PP mode to the pullout failure (PF) mode for CT loading in double pulse welds.

Mining in an upper coal seam results in the redistribution of vertical stress within a lower coal seam until a new equilibrium state is attained. Close-multiple coal seams mining faces the occurrence of multi-goafs and a complex stress environment. Based on a case study of close-multiple coal seams with repeated mining in the Qianjiaying coal mine, a stress distribution model of the floor in the coal seam striking range was established by optimizing the load form of the abutment pressure. The floor stress state after primary and repeated mining of upper coal seams was analyzed in a visual and quantitative manner. The concentrations of vertical stress, horizontal stress, and shear stress are all located in the floor under the coal rib after primary and repeated mining. The curve of stresses gradually levels off as the depth of the floor increases, indicating a diminishing influence of mining-induced stress from the upper coal seam. Based on the stress analysis by numerical simulations, the overall lower coal seam remains in a state of large-scale stress relief. Stress relief occurred twice under repeated mining, which indicates that the lower coal seam has favorable mining feasibility. The results of the study can provide scientific guidance to prevent mining accidents.

In-depth understanding of the influence of different hole defect structures on the dynamic mechanical properties and fracture behavior of rocks is an important theoretical guidance for the design of roadway support, rock engineering stability evaluation and mine pressure bump dynamic disaster prevention. The dynamic fracture behavior of limestone specimens containing different hole defects under impact loading was investigated. The fracture characteristics of the limestone specimens containing double-hole and crack were tested under impact conditions by using a split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) impact loading system. The whole process of dynamic crack initiation, propagation and penetration was recorded by the high-speed camera. The dynamic compressive strength, dynamic deformation modulus, failure mode and crack extension behaviour of the double-hole limestone under impact loading were further analyzed by combining image processing method. The results show that the peak strain of specimen varies from 0.00297 to 0.00493 when the double-hole defects appear asymmetric. This is due to uneven stresses prone to earlier compression damage. The asymmetric growth of the hole spacing has a greater weakening effect on the peak strength of limestone specimens. The larger the spacing of the asymmetric hole defects, the higher the degree of weakening of the peak strength of the specimens. The shape, spacing and asymmetry of the double hole defects in the limestone specimens all have the significant effect on dynamic compressive strength. The hole defects in the lower part of the limestone specimen have a significant effect on the propagation of the primary crack. This deflects the direction of initial tensile crack extension, resulting in the main mode of damage being a shear-tensile composite fracture. Among the damage modes of the limestone specimens, far-field tensile and shear cracks of types V and VI are more common. In addition, the cracking velocity considering the extension path fractal effect is 1.01−1.17 times of the apparent crack extension velocity. When the hole defects are asymmetrically distributed and widely spaced, the final number of cracks formed is smaller, the crack expansion velocity is reduced, and it is more favorable to suppress the rock chip flaking phenomenon on the rock surface.

Fusarium head blight (FHB) can cause serious yield loss and significant mycotoxin contamination, which seriously threaten global food security and safety. Breeding stable and durable cultivars that are resistant to FHB is one of the most effective approaches to controlling this disease. Fhb1 is a well-known genetic locus for FHB resistance, but its resistance is not always effective across diverse wheat genetic backgrounds. To achieve a high and durable level of resistance, the discovery and use of additional quantitative trait loci (QTL) for FHB resistance are essentially needed in breeding programs. In this study, two independent wheat natural populations of different origins were used for mining resistance QTL with a major and stable effect. Using genome-wide association analysis (GWAS), a total of 58 marker–trait associations (MTAs) on chromosomes 1A, 2B, 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B, 4D, 5A, 5B, 5D, 6A, 6B, 6D, 7A and 7B were found to be significant for type II resistance to FHB. These 58 MTAs represent 24 putative QTL. Among these QTL, Qfhb.yzu.3B.1 and Qfhb.yzu.6B.3 were stably detected in the two natural populations across three consecutive experimental years. The favorable haplotypes at the two QTL could significantly reduce the disease severity, either individually or in combination. These two QTL are also additive to Fhb1 in cultivars with different genetic backgrounds. Breeder-friendly markers were designed to differentiate the contrasting alleles at these two loci, thus proving very useful for improving FHB resistance in wheat by marker-assisted selection.

Abstract Telocytes (TCs) are a newly discovered type of mesenchymal cell that are closely related to the tissue’s internal environment. The study aimed to investigate the morphological identification of TCs in the epididymis of adult yak and their role in the local microenvironment. In this study, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy, immunofluorescence, qRT-PCR, and western blotting were used to analyze the cell morphology of TCs. The results showed that there are two types of TCs in the epididymal stroma of yak by TEM; one type is distributed around the capillaries with full cell bodies, longer TPs, and a large number of secretory vesicles; the other is distributed outside the basement membrane with irregularly long, striped, large nuclei and short telopodes (TPs). In addition, these TCs formed complex TC cell networks through TPs with epididymal interstitial capillaries and basal fibroblasts. TCs often appear near the capillaries and basement membrane by special staining. The surface markers of TCs (CD34, vimentin, and CD117) were positively expressed in the epididymal stroma and epithelium by immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence co-expression of vimentin + CD34 and CD117 + CD34 was observed on the surface of TCs. The trends in the mRNA and protein expression of TCs surface markers revealed expression was highest in the caput epididymis. In summary, this is first report of TCs in the epididymis of yak, and two phenotypes of TCs were observed. The existence and distribution characteristics of TCs in the epididymis of plateau yaks provide important clues for further study of the adaptation to reproductive function in the plateau.

The impact of the chalcogen atomic electronegativity (O, S, and Se atoms) of new organic molecules on excited-state dynamical reactions is self-evident. Inspired by this kind of distinguished photochemical characteristic, in this work, we performed a computational investigation of chalcogen-substituted 3,6-bis(4,5-dihydroxyoxazo-2-yl)benzene-1,2-diol (BDYBD) derivatives (i.e., BDYBD-O, BDYBD-S, and BDYBD-Se). In this paper, we pay close attention to characteristic BDYBD derivatives that contain intramolecular double hydrogen bonds (O1–H2···N3 and O4–H5···N6). The main goal of this study was to explore how changes in atomic electronegativity affect the way hydrogen bonds interact and how excited molecules affect transfer protons. We go into further detail in the main text of the paper. By fixing our attention to geometrical variations and infrared (IR) vibrational spectra between the S0 and S1 states, exploring hydrogen bonding behaviors using the core-valence bifurcation (CVB) index, and simulating hydrogen bonding energy (EHB) via the atom in molecule (AIM) method, we clarified the photo-induced strengthened dual hydrogen bonding interactions that facilitate the excited-state dual-proton transfer (ESDPT) behavior of BDYBD derivatives. The reorganization of charge stemming from photoexcitation further verifies the tendencies of ESDPT reactions. We relied on constructing potential energy surfaces (PESs) by adopting a restrictive optimization approach, and herein, we finally clarify the gradual ESDPT mechanism of BDYBD derivatives. Particularly, we confirm that the variation in chalcogen atomic electronegativity has a regulatory effect on the ESDPT behavior of BDYBD derivatives; that is, the lower the atomic electronegativity, the more favorable it is for the gradual ESDPT reaction.

Objectives Flight-deck support operations are the most critical link in the process of launch and recovery of carrier-based aircraft.The reasonable allocation of support personnel can enable to improve the capability of supporting the aircraft fleet operation and the sortie generation rate, thereby enhancing the overall combat effectiveness of the carrier.Method Aiming at the personnel configuration problem of the carrier-based aircraft flight-deck operation support, considering the complex realistic environment and based on the makespan of the aircraft fleet operation support, load balance and cumulative transfer time of support personnel on flight deck, a multi-objective mathematical programming model is established to obtain the required numbers of support personnel and skill allocation scheme. An integer encoding method and decoding method based on the event-based scheduling policy are designed, and an improved NSGA2-based personnel optimization algorithm is proposed to solve the problem.Results The simulation results show that this algorithm can effectively solve the established mathematical model, and the simulation results meet the actual combat requirements. Conclusion The improved NSGA2 algorithm can combine the carrier-based aircraft support process, numbers of personnel and skill allocation to provide the carrier-based aircraft support operation with a multi-objective optimized scheduling plan.

ObjectivesA multi-constraint two-dimensional packing algorithm is used to determine the carrier-based aircraft maximum density layout factor.MethodsFirst, the constraints are presented. Then, based on a lowest-gravity-center NFP algorithm combined with mathematics modeling for the distance constraints and a heuristic algorithm for the "keep-to-the-boundary" spotting, an entire maximum density layout algorithm for a flight and hanger deck is presented.ResultsUsing this algorithm, the maximum layout number of F/A-18C and F-35C aircraft on a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is determined, as well as the layout factor of F-35C aircraft, and the results are consistent with the known facts.ConclusionsWith this algorithm, the maximum density layout factor of aircraft can be quickly calculated, making it useful for guiding the suitable layout design of newly-built carrier-based aircraft.

MTNR1A and MTNR1B, two high-affinity MT membrane receptors found in mammals, mediate the activity of MT on the HPGA to regulate animal reproduction. Nevertheless, the expression patterns and function of the MTNR1A and MTNR1B genes in the HPTA of seasonal estrus sheep and perennial estrus sheep have not been elucidated. We studied the expression of MTNR1A and MTNR1B in the hypothalamic-pituitary-testicular axis (HPTA) of Tibetan sheep at different reproductive stages using histochemistry, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELSIA), scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, quantitative Real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), and Western blot (WB), and analyzed the relationship between their expression and reproductive hormone receptors. We also compared relevant characteristics between seasonal Tibetan sheep and non-seasonal Small Tail Han sheep in the same pastoral area. The results showed that MTNR1A and MTNR1B were expressed in all tissues of the Tibetan sheep HPTA, and both were co-expressed in the cytoplasm of epididymis basal and halo cells located at common sites of the epididymis basement membrane, forming an immune barrier. The qRT-PCR analysis showed that not only MTNR1A but also N-acetyltransferase (AANAT), hydroxyindole-oxygen- methyltransferase (HIOMT), androgen receptor (AR), and estrogen receptor α (ERα) mRNA expression was significantly upregulated in the testis and epididymis of Tibetan sheep during the breeding season, whereas no clear upregulation of these genes was observed in the tissues of Small Tail Han sheep. MTNR1A and MTNR1B are important regulators of the HPTA in sheep. MTNR1A mediates seasonal estrus regulation in Tibetan sheep. Both MTNR1A and MTNR1B may play important roles in formation of the blood-epididymal barrier. The results of this study should help advance research on the mechanism of reproductive regulation of the HPTA in male animals and provide reference data for improving the reproductive rate of seasonal breeding animals.

In order to overcome the influence of complex environmental disturbance factors such as nonlinear time-varying characteristics on the dynamic control performance of small fixed-wing UAVs, the nonlinear expression relationship of neural networks (NNs) is combined with the recursive least squares (RLSs) identification algorithm. This paper proposes a hybrid aerodynamic parameter identification method based on NN-RLS offline network training and online learning correction. The simulation results show that compared with the real value of the identification value obtained by this algorithm, the residual error of the moment coefficient is reduced by 69%, and the residual error of the force coefficient is reduced by 89%. Under the same identification accuracy, the identification time is shortened from the original 0.1 s to 0.01 s. Compared with traditional identification algorithms, better estimation results can be obtained. By using this algorithm to continuously update the NN model and iterate repeatedly, iterative learning for complex dynamic models can be realized, providing support for the optimization of UAV control schemes.

Generally, the addition of Chromium (Cr) into the dual-phase (DP) steels can suppress bainitic transformation. In this work, the continuous hot-dip galvanization of DP980 steel is thermally simulated with various Cr contents of 0/0.3/0.6 wt.%, and the effect of Cr on bainitic transformation and properties of steels is studied. The results indicate that the bainitic transformation is obviously inhibited. The fraction of bainite decreases with the increasing Cr content. The incubation time is prolonged in the 0.6Cr steel with a slower bainitic transformation rate. Compared to that of 0 and 0.3Cr steels, the 0.6Cr steel exhibits a high tensile strength of 1033 MPa and uniform elongation of 9.1% due to the rapid strain-hardening rate. As a result, the mechanical properties of 0.6Cr steel satisfy the requirements of hot-dip galvanized DP980 steel.

In the current work, we design a novel medium Mn steel with a superior mechanical property and no Lüders band. For industrial applications, a “low Mn addition” chemical composition and two kinds of different annealing processes with various initial microstructures were introduced. Consequently, the sample subjected to full austenitized quenching plus intercritical annealing process exhibited an outstanding mechanical property without the Lüders band. The microstructural evolution and austenite reverted transformation behavior were discussed in detail. In addition, austenite stability was estimated by chemistry stability and mechanical stabilization. It seemed that the austenite stability was significantly influenced by the morphological component. Thus, the sample with single lath-like ferrite and austenite exhibited the most excellent mechanical property. Furthermore, the “Lüders band” phenomenon was considered to rely on the restriction of martensitic recovery and recrystallization by lath-like morphology. The occurrence of the Lüders band was attributed to the low work-hardening ability caused by dynamic recovery. The formation of lath-like morphology could prevent the occurrence and propagation of the Lüders band by increasing the dislocation density and active TRIP effect.

Abstract Steel-fiber reinforced concrete slabs have good blast and spall resistance. In this study, compression and splitting tensile experiments were carried out to obtain the basic quasi-static mechanical properties of the steel-fiber concrete specimens and the influence of steel-fiber parameters was revealed. In-field explosion experiments were performed to study the dynamic responses and damage modes of the steel-fiber reinforced concrete slabs. Five typical spall damage modes were observed, the distribution law of the spalling fragments was obtained, and the influence of steel-fiber shape, length, length–diameter ratio and volume percentage on the spall performance were revealed. These results will provide a basis for the application of steel-fiber reinforced concrete slabs in protective structures.

The slippage occurs between the fingers and object will result in grasp failure that badly affects the prosthetic hand's operation. In this paper, a new slippage prevention strategy is proposed to improve the prosthetic hand's grasp stability. The proposed method, which comprises a slipping process model, a multi-threshold detection scheme, and a force regulation policy, can have a minimal loading force intervention after stabilization. First, the slipping process is modeled with special considerations on the nonlinear and noise characteristics of the system. Then, the multiple thresholds are selected for slippage detection to reduce the influence of loading force variation and system nonlinearity. Lastly, a loading force regulation policy consisting of a serials of constant, slight force increments is applied to suppress the detected slippage and minimize the force growth. One merit of our method is that the parameters selected in the algorithm largely depend on the system characteristics of the hand system, but not the grasped object. Experimental results show that the proposed method has better detection accuracy on slippage detection and minimal loading force intervention after slippage suppression.

This paper focuses on the triaxial augmentation ability of the active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) technique on the tailless layout with a fully moving wing tip to achieve high control performance for the supersonic tailless aircraft. Firstly, the stability characteristics and controllability of the flying wing layout are analyzed to determine the coupling characteristics of this kind of aircraft. Secondly, an attitude controller is designed based on ADRC theory, and the linear ADRC frequency domain analysis method is introduced to analyze the influence of the bandwidth of linear extended stator on the control system. In addition, the tuning process of the attitude control law is given. Carrier dropping simulations of flight missions under nominal condition, model parameter perturbation, and wind disturbance are conducted. The results show that the designed controller can achieve full-speed domain triaxial augmentation of supersonic flying wing. This work has the potential to significantly boost the engineering acceptability and robustness of supersonic aircraft control design in real-world scenarios. The presented cascaded ADRC approach can significantly improve the performance and robustness of supersonic vehicles.

The addition of high-content alloying elements and the unbefitting process make carbide-free bainite steel difficult in industrial production. Thus, we adopted a dynamic continuous cooling process for developing the high-strength cold-rolled low-alloy carbide-free bainitic steels in this study. The influence of cooling rates on the microstructure and mechanical properties was investigated by dilatometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), and tensile tests. The results show that the bainitic ferrite plates were refined by decreasing the cooling rate, and more austenite was retained in the steel with a medium cooling rate. Both the TRIP effect and the refined bainitic ferrite plate contribute to the good strength–ductility match. Consequently, the propitious microstructure adjustment is critical for developing 980 MPa carbide-free bainitic steel.

Cooperative relationships and interactive decision behaviors between online stores and third-party logistics (TPL) have attracted increasing attention from academics as well as practitioners with the development of the online retailing industry. However, the decisions and performance of each member in a decentralized supply chain are not in line with the actual performance and decision behaviors of them, especially when taking individual altruism preference into account. Hence, without considering the truism of channel members will lead to unrealistic decisions and obtain anamorphic performance of firms and the entire system based on conventional self-interested models. This paper develops an evolutionary bilateral decision-making model to characterize the effects of all members' altruism in an online shopping service supply chain (OSSSC). The model considers different altruism of each member in the supply chain and their changes at various intervals. The decision equilibrium and interactive rules of all members are deeply analyzed based on the evolutionary bilateral decision-model as the change of altruism of each party. Our results identify that: altruism preference impacts the decisions of all participants in the OSSSC system. When the TPL and the online store have high altruism and low altruism, respectively, both retail price and logistics service price tend toward low levels and all participants have high utilities. However, this situation is more favorable for the online store. In this case, changes in the altruism level of either party will adversely impact the utilities of all parties and the performance of the whole system; specially, when the online stores are self-interested while the TPL has altruism that fluctuates within a specific range, improving logistics service level will help to lower the retail price and increase market shares. Numerical experiments are conducted to examine and verify the results and some optimal managerial insights for online retailers and TPLs are provided.

The strength and ductility of low-carbon carbide-free bainitic (CFB) automotive steel are not good enough. In this study, a short austenitization (SA) process in conjunction with isothermal bainitic transformation was adopted to refine the bainitic ferrite lath, thus improving the mechanical properties of low-carbon CFB steel. The microstructure evolution was traced by dilatometric measurements and microstructure characterization, which revealed the refined microstructure by SA process. Besides, the deformation behaviors of the studied steels were analyzed, indicating that the improved work hardening capability by refined bainitic ferrite lath and more stable austenite were responsible for the better strength-ductility match. The CFB steel treated by SA process exhibits a high tensile strength of ~1180 MPa, and its elongation of 22.6% is comparable with commercial QP980 steel.

Due to the complexity of electrical discharge machining (EDM), there is no perfect theory to explain the mechanisms of material erosion, ejection and solidification during the machining process. Therefore, this paper analyzed the micro-process of a single-pulse discharge during EDM and studied the thermal erosion, ejection and solidification processes of the electrode materials. A thermal-fluid simulation model that considered melting-solidification was established. A mathematical model of vapor flow considering the impact pressure was developed, and it was compiled and loaded as a material ejection force in simulations with a user defined function (UDF). The changes in the material ejection, crater formation and material solidification processes at different discharge times were studied. Finally, the simulation results were verified by single-pulse material discharge experiments, which provided a reference for additional understanding of the micro material discharge processes during EDM.

Large-aperture space telescope is the key equipment for studying the origin and evolution of the universe and various celestial bodies. Developing large-aperture space telescope is challenging and has become a priority in the field of optical engineering. Due to the mass and volume constraints of launch vehicles, it has to be designed and launched in modules and then assembled on-orbit by space robots. In this paper, we present a conceptual of 10-meter diameter modular space telescope together with robotic assembly strategy. To fulfill on-orbit assembly and maintenance of the space telescope, a novel assembly robot with a ring-shaped mobile base and a redundant stretchable manipulator is proposed. The time-optimal trajectory planning based on genetic algorithm is utilized to achieve efficient assembly. The preliminary ground experiment of assembling submirror modules of space telescope using the KUKA LWR iiwa-7 is carried to verify the feasibility of the proposed method, and the results show that the assembly task of telescope modules can be accomplished successfully with appropriate forces and torques.

Summary: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are the effectors of a conserved gene-silencing system with broad roles in post-transcriptional regulation. Due to functional overlaps, assigning specific functions to individual miRNAs has been challenging. DICER1 cleaves pre-miRNA hairpins into mature miRNAs, and previously Dicer1 knockout mouse embryonic stem cells have been generated to study miRNA function in early mouse development. Here we report an essential requirement of DICER1 for the self-renewal of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). Utilizing a conditional knockout approach, we found that DICER1 deletion led to increased death receptor-mediated apoptosis and failure of hESC self-renewal. We further devised a targeted miRNA screening strategy and uncovered essential pro-survival roles of members of the mir-302-367 and mir-371-373 clusters that bear the seed sequence AAGUGC. This platform is uniquely suitable for dissecting the roles of individual miRNAs in hESC self-renewal and differentiation, which may help us better understand the early development of human embryos. : Huangfu and colleagues report an unexpected requirement for DICER1 in preventing death-receptor-mediated apoptosis in hESCs. This essential pro-survival role is largely mediated by mir-302-367 and mir-371-373 cluster members that bear the seed sequence “AAGUGC” shared by the ESC-specific cell-cycle-regulating family of miRNAs. This work provides a robust platform for interrogating miRNA function in hESC pluripotency and differentiation. We propose a novel liquid jet gyroscope based on electrochemical transducers, which uses electrolyte as the jet medium, and two electrochemical transducers placed symmetrically as the velocity measuring unit. The gyroscope includes a fluid pump to generate a jet flow, which flows into the jet chamber. Then, it is diverged into the shunt channels, pumped into reflux channels and merged by a fluid pump. The velocities of shunt flows are measured by two electrochemical transducers. The feasibility of the method was demonstrated in theory, and a 2D finite element model was built to simulate the dynamics of the liquid jet gyroscope. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the gyroscope, which has higher sensitivity in the near DC frequency band.

The narrow process window during intercritical annealing and discontinuous yielding have limited the commercialization of medium Mn steels. In this study, a double-annealing process based on the commercial continuous annealing line is proposed. The cold-rolled medium Mn steels were first fully austenitized and quenched during the first annealing, followed by intercritical annealing for reverted austenite transformation. The microstructure of duplex lath-shaped austenite and ferrite is produced and steel exhibits a desirable continuous yielding during tensile deformation. Al is added into the medium Mn steel to enlarge the process window and to improve the partitioning efficiency of Mn. The produced steel is more robust with temperature fluctuation during the industrial process due to the enlarged intercritical region. Mn partitioning is more efficient owing to the elevated annealing temperature, which results in the improvement of ductility in the Al-added steel with increased austenite stability.

With the development of (electrical discharge machining) EDM technology, composite tools with special features gradually replace the traditional single-material tools and have become widely used in specific processing conditions. In order to predict the wear of composite tool effectively, in this paper, a material removal model of single-pulse EDM with composite tools was established by using the finite element method. The surface temperature distribution of the composite tool was obtained by taking the copper-die steel tool as the analysis object. And the shape of discharge crater as well as the removal volume was obtained by the element birth and death method. The influences of discharge parameters and tool materials on the removal volume were analyzed respectively. The EDM experiments were carried out by using copper-die steel as the composite tool to verify the simulation results. It shows that the errors between actual machining results and the simulation results are less than 10%, which proves the accuracy of the simulation model.

Aiming at the problem of obvious tool length wear and side wear in the small hole processing of EDM, the nickel-coated composite electrode and diamond-nickel-coated composite electrode were prepared by chemical composite coating using brass, copper, molybdenum, and copper-tungsten alloy materials as the matrix material. Comparative experiments of EDM small hole machining using composite tools were carried out on die steel. The effects of nickel-coated composite electrode and diamond-nickel-coated composite electrode on tool length wear, tool side wear, and tool shape change were analyzed. The results show that the diamond-nickel-coated composite electrode can effectively reduce both the length wear and side wear of the electrodes.

The shape change law of a multimaterial electrode in EDM was studied, and a cosimulation between ANSYS and MATLAB of electrode shape change of the multimaterial electrode and workpiece was established. Element birth and death in ANSYS was used to obtain the removal volume in a single-pulse discharge, and the electrode feed strategy, material removal, and renewal strategy are considered to establish the shape simulation strategy. Then, a program based on MATLAB software was compiled to simulate the machining process and predict the shape change of the multimaterial electrode of different combinations. The experiments of different multimaterial electrodes were carried out with the die steel as the workpiece. The simulation results were compared with the experimental results to verify the effectiveness of the simulation model.

Transferring versatile skills of human behavior to teleoperate manipulators to execute tasks with large uncertainties is challenging in robotics. This paper proposes a hybrid mapping method with position and stiffness for manipulator teleoperation through the exoskeleton device combining with the surface electromyography (sEMG) sensors. Firstly, according to the redefinition of robot workspace, the fixed scale mapping in free space and virtual impedance mapping in fine space are presented for position teleoperation. Secondly, the stiffness at the human arm endpoint is predicted and classified into three levels based on the K nearest neighbor (KNN) and XGBoost, and the stiffness mapping method is utilized to regulate the stiffness behavior of manipulator. Finally, the proposed method is demonstrated in three complementary experiments, namely the trajectory tracking in free space, the obstacle avoidance in fine space and the human robot interaction in contact space, which illustrate the effectiveness of the method.

Mollusk biomineralization is an elaborate process in which cells, organic macromolecules, and calcium carbonate crystals are actively involved. Macromolecules (mainly are proteins and polysaccharide) act as a key role in regulating and limiting the size, orientation, polymorph and texture of inorganic phase. In this work, we focused on the inter-prismatic matrix of mollusk shell combining scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analytical techniques with CaCO3 recrystallization experiment to characterize its structure and effects on crystal formation. Our results show that the inter-prismatic matrix is not a sort of pure polymer, calcite nano-crystals are also located inside the inter-prismatic matrix. Interestingly, it seems that these nanocrystals have a preferred orientation, which means the inter-prismatic matrix do impose effect on the crystal formation. In vitro re-crystallization experiment using partially dissolved prismatic fragment as template indicates that the (104) faces of CaCO3 micro-crystals are closely associated with the walls of inter-prismatic matrix. Furthermore, a possible growth mechanism of mollusk shell prismatic layer was proposed.

Aloe Vera-conjugated Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs@AV hybrids) are synthesized in large quantities by reducing silver nitrate with Aloe Vera pulp extract at room temperature. TEM image reveals that these NPs are predominantly spherical with an average of 25 nm in diameter. The crystal structure of AgNPs@AV is determined by XRD. The cytotoxicity of AgNPs@AV hybrids is detected by carrying out the cell viability measurement on Human Dermal Fibroblasts (HDF) cells, the results show that no obvious cytotoxicity is observed. Compared with Vera gel and Ag NPs (washed from Vera gel) alone, AgNPs@AV hybrids possess more excellent antibacterial activity on E. coli even at very low concentration.

Human can successfully grasp various objects in different acceptable relative positions between human hand and objects. This grasp functionality can be described as the grasp tolerance of human hand, which is a significant functionality of human grasp. To understand the motor control of human hand completely, an analysis of hand and wrist postural synergies in tolerance grasping of various objects is needed. Ten healthy right-handed subjects were asked to perform the tolerance grasping with right hand using 6 objects of different shapes, sizes and relative positions between human hand and objects. Subjects were wearing CyberGlove attaching motion tracker on right hand, allowing a measurement of the hand and wrist postures. Correlation analysis of joints and inter-joint/inter-finger modules were carried on to explore the coordination between joints or modules. As the correlation between hand and wrist module is not obvious in tolerance grasping, individual analysis of wrist synergies would be more practical. In this case, postural synergies of hand and wrist were then presented separately through principal component analysis (PCA), expressed through the principal component (PC) information transmitted ratio, PC elements distribution and reconstructed angle error of joints. Results on correlation comparison of different module movements can be well explained by the influence factors of the joint movement correlation. Moreover, correlation analysis of joints and modules showed the wrist module had the lowest correlation among all inter-finger and inter-joint modules. Hand and wrist postures were both sufficient to be described by a few principal components. In terms of the PC elements distribution of hand postures, compared with previous investigations, there was a greater proportion of movement in the thumb joints especially the interphalangeal (IP) and opposition rotation (ROT) joint. The research could serve to a complete understanding of hand grasp, and the design, control of the anthropomorphic hand and wrist.

Performance degradation will be caused by a variety of interfering factors for pattern recognition-based myoelectric control methods in the long term. This paper proposes an adaptive learning method with low computational cost to mitigate the effect in unsupervised adaptive learning scenarios. We presents a particle adaptive classifier (PAC), by constructing a particle adaptive learning strategy and universal incremental least square support vector classifier (LS-SVC). We compared PAC performance with incremental support vector classifier (ISVC) and non-adapting SVC (NSVC) in a long-term pattern recognition task in both unsupervised and supervised adaptive learning scenarios. Retraining time cost and recognition accuracy were compared by validating the classification performance on both simulated and realistic long-term EMG data. The classification results of realistic long-term EMG data showed that the PAC significantly decreased the performance degradation in unsupervised adaptive learning scenarios compared with NSVC (9.03% ± 2.23%, p < 0.05) and ISVC (13.38% ± 2.62%, p = 0.001), and reduced the retraining time cost compared with ISVC (2 ms per updating cycle vs. 50 ms per updating cycle).

The molecular mechanisms that underpin invasive ductal breast cancer (IDC) invasion and metastasis are incompletely understood. The oncogene, mouse double minute 2 (MDM2), has been implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous cancers, where it stimulates the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9), an important enzyme in the breakdown of the extracellular matrix. However, its role in breast cancer remains poorly understood. This study assessed the clinical significance of MDM2 expression in IDC and used in vitro expression assays to determine the molecular roles of MDM2. Immunohistochemical staining for MMP9 and MDM2 was performed using archived tumor blocks from 321 women who underwent surgical resection for IDC at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, China between January 2002 and December 2003. MCF-7 and MDA-MD-231 cell lines were transfected with siRNA targeted against MDM2, or MDM2 was overexpressed using transiently expressed vectors. The invasion, cell migration and proteolytic capabilities of cells that over- or underexpressed MDM2 was then assessed and compared against control cells, in addition to the consequent effects on MMP9 expression using RT-PCR. In vivo, 54.9% and 49.6% of samples were positive for MMP9 and MDM2 expression, respectively, and their expression was significantly correlated (r² = 0.171, P = 0.012). Moreover, MDM2 expression was markedly correlated with disease-free survival (HR 2.56, 95% CI 1.02-6.40, P = 0.038). In vitro, MDM2 overexpression significantly enhanced cell invasion, migration and proteolysis compared with control cells, and the converse effects were observed after MDM2-siRNA treatment. MDM2 overexpression induced MMP9 expression in a dose-dependent manner. Taken together, these results suggest that high levels of MDM2 are associated with a poorer prognosis in IDC. This might result from increased tumor invasiveness due to enhanced MMP9 expression causing increased extracellular matrix breakdown.
