The present study was conducted to assess the impact of structured teaching program on knowledge and skill regarding prevention of major complications of immobility in orthopaedic patients among staff nurses at SKIMS Medical College and Hospital, Bemina Srinagar. The association between pre test knowledge and skill score of study subjects with demographic variables was also assessed. Quantitative research approach with one group pre testpost test research design with purposive sampling technique to select study sample of 50 was used.Data was collected by using structured knowledge questionnaire and observational checklist. The result revealed that the structured teaching program was effective in improving the knowledge with the mean difference of 11.46(p=0.03) and skill with the mean difference of 9.20(p=0.001) at 0.05 level of significance. The result also revealed significant association between professional qualification and years of experience with pre test knowledge score and educational qualification withpre test skill score. Findings of the study concluded that structured teaching program was effective.

Cancer registration is important for epidemiology, planning, cancer policy and research. The network of cancer registry across India is widened and a process began in 1960?s.The cancer registration in India is expanded day by day including many Hospital Based Cancer Registries and Population Based Cancer Registries. Projection of cancer incidence is essential for planning cancer control actions, health care and allocation of resources. The incidence or the projection of cancer is made from the cancer registry.The cancer registry is an organization for the systematic collection storage, analysis, interpretation and reporting data on subjects with cancer.The main objective of these registries is to produce statistics on the occurrence and to provide a framework for assessing and controlling the impact of cancer in community. The emphasis will be an epidemiology and public health. The data will be used for obtaining information on burden and patterns of cancer. It can also provide a focus for research into etiology and prevention (primary and secondary) and patient care. The main role of cancer registry is to capturing a clear and complete picture of cancer in India.

Biostatistics is well recognized as an essential tool in medical research, clinical research and health research. Biostatistics is the branch of statistics applied to biological areas or medical sciences or medical research. Biostatistics not only covers the health, medicine, and nutrition but also covers the agriculture, genetics, biology, biochemistry, demography, epidemiology, anthropology and many others. Biostatistics helps to evaluate many life and death issues in medicine. The aim of this article is to educate the medical residents about the applications of biostatistics so that the proper and accurate conclusions may be drawn from the study.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is considered as one of the most common endocrine disorders in premenopausal women with varied pathophysiology. In this study we investigated the association between -108C/T and 55L/M polymorphisms of Paraoxonase1 (PON1) gene with PCOS. PON1 gene codes for the antioxidant enzyme PON1 which is an HDL associated enzyme that prevents oxidative modification of low-density lipoprotein. A total of 192 women with PCOS and 212 control women from an ethnic population (Kashmir) were included in the study. The PON1 polymorphism was genotyped using PCR-RFLP technique. Clinical, Biochemical parameters were analyzed, and HOMA-IR was used to estimate insulin resistance. Serum PON1 activity and MDA levels were also measured. The frequencies of variant PON1 -108TT genotype and T allele were significantly higher in women with PCOS than controls (31.25%Vs15.09%) and (56.77%Vs41.27%) respectively.
