This study compares and contrasts the English and adapted (remade) Arabic versions of the American series Suits 2011 in terms of cultural, religious, and ideological aspects. The researchers compiled a parallel comparable corpus extracted from both versions. Data analysis shows that there are several similarities and differences between the source and the target versions of Suits in terms of the cast, setting, opening and credits, daily life habits, morality, and social customs. The findings show that the Arabic version highly attends to the Muslim Arab cultural norms. Nevertheless, the Arabic version frequently contains unfamiliar and unacceptable behaviour to the Muslim Arab culture, such as smoking weed and trading drugs. In other words, there are some unexplained paradoxical changes made by the makers of the Arabic version, such as adding scenes to a few episodes similar to those that were deleted in previous episodes for cultural considerations. Due to the lack of consensus on what is and what is not suitable for the target Muslim Arab audience, this study recommends that media decision-makers in the Arab World compile a list of codes that can regulate the adaptations (remakes) of famous foreign shows into the Muslim Arab culture.

Background Galidesivir (GDV) is a promising new antiviral drug for the potent and safe treatment of a broad spectrum of viral diseases, including COVID-19. In the literature, no analytical method exists for the determination of GDV in bulk and dosage form. Objective The aim of this study was the development of versatile green and simple microwell spectrophotometric methods (MW-SPMs) for the determination of GDV in its bulk form and capsules. Methods Three MW-SPMs were developed involving the oxidation of GDV by ammonium metavanadate (AMV), chromium trioxide (CTO), and potassium iodate (PIO) in an acid medium. The reactions were carried out in 96-well plates at room temperature and the absorbances of chromogenic reaction products were measured by an absorbance microplate reader at 780, 595, and 475 nm for AMV, CTO, and PIO, respectively. Variables influencing the reactions were carefully investigated and optimized. Results Linear relations with excellent correlation coefficients (0.9991–0.9997) were found between the absorbances and GDV concentrations in the range of 25–500 µg/mL. The LODs were ≥8.3 µg/mL. The accuracy and precision of the three MW-SPMs were confirmed by recovery and replicate analysis, respectively. The recovery values were 98.6–101.2% and the RSDs were ≤1.02%. The proposed MW-SPMs were successfully applied to the analysis of GDV in bulk drug and capsules with high accuracy and precision. The greenness of the MW-SPMs was confirmed by three comprehensive metric tools. Conclusion The proposed MW-SPMs combined the inherent advantages of microwell-based analysis and the use of common laboratory reagents for the reactions involved. These advantages include high-throughput, ready automation, reduced sample/reagent volume, precise measurements, and versatility. The advantages of the use of common laboratory reagents include availability, consistency, compatibility, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Five various chemometric methods were established for the simultaneous determination of azilsartan medoxomil (AZM) and chlorthalidone in the presence of azilsartan which is the core impurity of AZM. The full spectrum-based chemometric techniques, namely partial least squares (PLS), principal component regression, and artificial neural networks (ANN), were among the applied methods. Besides, the ANN and PLS were the other two methods that were extended by genetic algorithm procedure (GA-PLS and GA-ANN) as a wavelength selection procedure. The models were developed by applying a multilevel multifactor experimental design. The predictive power of the suggested models was evaluated through a validation set containing nine mixtures with different ratios of the three analytes. For the analysis of Edarbyclor® tablets, all the proposed procedures were applied and the best results were achieved in the case of ANN, GA-ANN, and GA-PLS methods. The findings of the three methods were revealed as the quantitative tool for the analysis of the three components without any intrusion from the co-formulated excipient and without prior separation procedures. Moreover, the GA impact on strengthening the predictive power of ANN- and PLS-based models was also highlighted.

This is a linguistic and semiotic study of the newspaper front pages that reported the death of Queen Elizabeth II. A sample of 61 front pages was collected from various British and non-British newspapers on Friday 9 September, 2022. The headlines reporting the death of the Queen were linguistically analysed focusing on euphemistic means. The pictures accompanying the headlines were semiotically investigated to see how the Queen was visually mourned and if there were any subtle semiotic euphemisms. Reporting the death of the Queen, linguistic and semiotic polarities can be observed on the newspaper front pages under investigation: direct versus indirect reporting. The findings reveal that 70.5% of the headlines reported the tragic news indirectly avoiding the verb ‘die’, the noun ‘death’ and the adjective ‘dead’. Similarly, the semiotic analysis shows that more newspapers displayed coloured (67%) recent (57%) pictures of the Queen showing her cheerful (56%). Avoiding the words ‘die’, ‘death’ and ‘dead’ and displaying the Queen in coloured cheerful pictures demonstrate that newspapers favoured both subtle linguistic and semiotic euphemisms in reporting the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The findings illustrate how humans, consciously and unconsciously, safeguard themselves against the discourse of death by utilizing both linguistic and semiotic euphemisms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fexofenadine (FEX) is a non‐sedating antihistamine commonly used for the treatment of allergic conditions such as seasonal rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria. This study describes the tuning "ON" the intrinsic fluorescence of FEX by switching "OFF" its intramolecular photoinduced electron transfer (PET) through the protonation of the piperidinyl nitrogen atom using sulfuric acid. The resulting fluorescence was utilized as a basis for the development of a highly sensitive microwell spectrofluorimetric assay (MW‐SFA) for the one‐step determination of FEX in pharmaceutical tablets and plasma. The linear range of the assay was 10–500 ng ml−1, and its limit of quantitation was 25.9 ng ml−1. The proposed MW‐SFA was successfully applied to analyze FEX in pharmaceutical tablets and plasma samples, demonstrating good accuracy and precision. The greenness of the assay was confirmed using three metric assessment tools. In conclusion, the MW‐SFA is a straightforward, single‐step analysis that requires no experimental adjustments. It offers high sensitivity, efficient sample processing, and environmental sustainability.
