This research addresses the critical necessity for advanced rapid response operations in managing a spectrum of environmental hazards. We propose a novel framework, qIoV that integrates quantum computing with the Internet-of-Vehicles (IoV) to leverage the computational efficiency, parallelism, and entanglement properties of quantum mechanics. Our approach involves the use of environmental sensors mounted on vehicles for precise air quality assessment. These sensors are designed to be highly sensitive and accurate, leveraging the principles of quantum mechanics to detect and measure environmental parameters. A salient feature of our proposal is the Quantum Mesh Network Fabric (QMF), a system designed to dynamically adjust the quantum network topology in accordance with vehicular movements. This capability is critical to maintaining the integrity of quantum states against environmental and vehicular disturbances, thereby ensuring reliable data transmission and processing. Moreover, our methodology is further augmented by the incorporation of a variational quantum classifier (VQC) with advanced quantum entanglement techniques. This integration offers a significant reduction in latency for hazard alert transmission, thus enabling expedited communication of crucial data to emergency response teams and the public. Our study on the IBM OpenQSAM 3 platform, utilizing a 127 Qubit system, revealed significant advancements in pair plot analysis, achieving over 90% in precision, recall, and F1-Score metrics and an 83% increase in the speed of toxic gas detection compared to conventional methods.Additionally, theoretical analyses validate the efficiency of quantum rotation, teleportation protocols, and the fidelity of quantum entanglement, further underscoring the potential of quantum computing in enhancing analytical performance.

Spintronic nano-oscillators can generate tunable microwave signals that find a wide range of applications in the field of telecommunication to modern neuromorphic computing systems. Among other spintronic devices, a magnetic skyrmion is a promising candidate for the next generation of low-power devices due to its small size and topological stability. In this work, we propose a multi-channel oscillator design based on the synthetic anti-ferromagnetic (SAF) skyrmion pair. The mitigation of the skyrmion Hall effect in SAF and the associated decimation of the Magnus force endows the proposed oscillator with an ultra-high frequency of 41GHz and a multi-channel frequency output driven by the same current. The ultrahigh operational frequency represents an $\sim$342 times improvement compared to the monolayer single skyrmion oscillator featuring a constant uniaxial anisotropy profile. Using micromagnetic simulations, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed multi-channel oscillator design by introducing multi-channel nanotracks along with multiple skyrmions for enhanced frequency operation. The ultrahigh operational frequency and multi-channel output are attributed to three key factors: The oscillator design accounting for a finite spin-flip length of the spacer (such as Ru) material, tangential velocity proportionality on input spin current along with weak dependence on the radius of rotation of the skyrmion-pair, skyrmion interlocking in the channel enabled by the multi-channel high Ku rings and skyrmion-skyrmion repulsion, therefore resulting ultrahigh frequency and multi-channel outputs.

Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) have emerged as a promising paradigm, offering event-driven and energy-efficient computation. In recent studies, various devices tailored for SNN synapses and neurons have been proposed, leveraging the unique characteristics of emerging non-volatile memory (eNVM) technologies. While substantial progress has been made in exploring the capabilities of SNNs and designing dedicated hardware components, there exists a critical gap in establishing a unified approach for evaluating hardware-level metrics. Specifically, metrics such as latency, and energy consumption, are pivotal in assessing the practical viability and efficiency of the constructed neural network. In this article, we address this gap by presenting a comprehensive framework for evaluating hardware-level metrics in SNNs based on non-volatile memory devices. We systematically analyze the impact of synaptic and neuronal components on energy consumption providing a unified perspective for assessing the overall efficiency of the network. In this study, our emphasis lies on the neuron and synaptic device based on magnetic skyrmions. Nevertheless, our framework is versatile enough to encompass other emerging devices as well. Utilizing our proposed skyrmionic devices, the constructed SNN demonstrates an inference accuracy of approximately 98% and achieves energy consumption on the order of pJ when processing the Modified National Institute of Standards and Technology (MNIST) handwritten digit dataset.

Pervasive use of social media has become the emerging source for real-time information (like images, text, or both) to identify various events. Despite the rapid growth of image and text-based event classification, the state-of-the-art (SOTA) models find it challenging to bridge the semantic gap between features of image and text modalities due to inconsistent encoding. Also, the black-box nature of models fails to explain the model's outcomes for building trust in high-stakes situations such as disasters, pandemic. Additionally, the word limit imposed on social media posts can potentially introduce bias towards specific events. To address these issues, we proposed CrisisKAN, a novel Knowledge-infused and Explainable Multimodal Attention Network that entails images and texts in conjunction with external knowledge from Wikipedia to classify crisis events. To enrich the context-specific understanding of textual information, we integrated Wikipedia knowledge using proposed wiki extraction algorithm. Along with this, a guided cross-attention module is implemented to fill the semantic gap in integrating visual and textual data. In order to ensure reliability, we employ a model-specific approach called Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) that provides a robust explanation of the predictions of the proposed model. The comprehensive experiments conducted on the CrisisMMD dataset yield in-depth analysis across various crisis-specific tasks and settings. As a result, CrisisKAN outperforms existing SOTA methodologies and provides a novel view in the domain of explainable multimodal event classification.

Topologically protected spin textures, such as magnetic skyrmions, have the potential for dense data storage as well as energy-efficient computing due to their small size and a low driving current. The evaluation of the writing and reading of the skyrmion's magnetic and electrical characteristics is a key step toward the implementation of these devices. In this paper, we present the magnetic heterostructure Hall bar device and study the anomalous Hall and topological Hall signals in the device. Using the combination of different measurements like magnetometry at different temperatures, Hall effect measurement from 2K to 300K, and magnetic force microscopy imaging, we investigate the magnetic and electrical characteristics of the magnetic structure. We measure the skyrmion topological resistivity at different temperatures as a function of the magnetic field. The topological resistivity is maximum around the zero magnetic field and it decreases to zero at the saturating field. This is further supported by MFM imaging. Interestingly the resistivity decreases linearly with the field, matching the behavior observed in the corresponding micromagnetic simulations. We combine the experimental results with micromagnetic simulations, thus propose a skyrmion-based synaptic device and show spin-orbit torque-controlled potentiation/depression in the device. The device performance as the synapse for neuromorphic computing is further evaluated in a convolutional neural network CNN. The neural network is trained and tested on the MNIST data set we show devices acting as synapses achieving a recognition accuracy close to 90%, on par with the ideal software-based weights which offer an accuracy of 92%.

Topologically stable magnetic skyrmion has a much lower depinning current density that may be useful for memory as well as neuromorphic computing. However, skyrmion-based devices suffer from the Magnus force originating from the skyrmion Hall effect, which may result in unwanted skyrmion annihilation if the magnitude of the driving current gets too large. A design of an artificial neuron and a synapse using a synthetic antiferromagnetically coupled bilayer device, which nullifies the Magnus force, is demonstrated in this work. The leak term in the artificial leaky integrate-and-fire neuron is achieved by engineering the uniaxial anisotropy profile of the neuronal device. The synaptic device has a similar structure as the neuronal device but has a constant uniaxial anisotropy. The synaptic device also has a linear and symmetric weight update, which is a highly desirable trait of an artificial synapse. Neuronal and synaptic devices based on magnetic domain-wall (DW) motion are also studied and compared to skyrmionic devices. Our simulation results show the energy required to perform such operation in DW or skyrmion-based devices is on the order of a few fJ.

Spintronic artificial spiking neurons are promising due to their ability to closely mimic the leaky integrate-and-fire (LIF) dynamics of the biological LIF spiking neuron. However, the neuron needs to be reset after firing. Few of the spintronic neurons that have been proposed in the literature discuss the reset process in detail. In this article, we discuss the various schemes to achieve this reset in a magnetic domain wall (DW) based spintronic neuron in which the position of the DW represents the membrane potential. In all the spintronic neurons studied, the neuron enters a refractory period and is reset when the DW reaches a particular position. We show that the self-reset operation in the neuron devices consumes energy that can vary from of several pJ to a few fJ, which highlights the importance of the reset strategy in improving the energy efficiency of spintronic artificial spiking neurons.

Simulated annealing (SA) attracts more attention among classical heuristic algorithms because the solution of the combinatorial optimization problem can be naturally mapped to the ground state of the Ising Hamiltonian. However, in practical implementation, the annealing process cannot be arbitrarily slow and hence, it may deviate from the expected stationary Boltzmann distribution and become trapped in a local energy minimum. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a heuristic search algorithm by expanding search space from a Markov chain to a recursive depth limited tree based on SA, where the parent and child nodes represent the current and future spin states. At each iteration, the algorithm will select the best near-optimal solution within the feasible search space by exploring along the tree in the sense of `look ahead'. Furthermore, motivated by coherent Ising machine (CIM), we relax the discrete representation of spin states to continuous representation with a regularization term and utilize the reduced dynamics of the oscillators to explore the surrounding neighborhood of the selected tree nodes. We tested our algorithm on a representative NP-hard problem (MAX-CUT) to illustrate the effectiveness of this algorithm compared to semi-definite programming (SDP), SA, and simulated CIM. Our results show that above the primal heuristics SA and CIM, our high-level tree search strategy is able to provide solutions within fewer epochs for Ising formulated NP-optimization problems.

Magnetic skyrmion technology is promising for the next-generation spintronics-based memory and neuromorphic computing due to their small size, non-volatility and low depinning current density. However, the Magnus force originating from the skyrmion Hall effect causes the skyrmion to move along a curved trajectory, which may lead to the annihilation of the skyrmion in a nanotrack during current-induced skyrmion motion. Consequently, circuits utilizing skyrmionic motion need to be designed to limit the impact of the skyrmion Hall effect. In this work, we propose a design of an artificial neuron, and a synapse using the bilayer device consisting of two antiferromagnetically exchange coupled ferromagnetic layers, which achieves robustness against the skyrmion Hall effect by nullifying the Magnus force. Using micromagnetic simulations, we show that the bilayer device can work as an artificial neuron and also as a synapse by modifying its uniaxial anisotropy. We also demonstrate that our proposed skyrmionic synapse has an intrinsic property of perfectly linear and symmetric weight update, which is highly desirable for the synapse operation. A spiking neural network implemented using our proposed synapse and neuron was simulated and showed to achieve 96.23\% accuracy in performing classification on the MNIST handwritten digit dataset.

Embedded non-volatile memory technologies such as resistive random access memory (RRAM) and spin-transfer torque magnetic RAM (STT MRAM) are increasingly being researched for application in neuromorphic computing and hardware accelerators for AI. However, the stochastic write processes in these memory technologies affect their yield and need to be studied alongside process variations, which drastically increase the complexity of yield analysis using the Monte Carlo approach. Therefore, we propose an approach based on the Fokker-Planck equation for modeling the stochastic write processes in STT MRAM and RRAM devices. Moreover, we show that our proposed approach can reproduce the experimental results for both STT-MRAM and RRAM devices.

The pioneering concept of connected vehicles has transformed the way of thinking for researchers and entrepreneurs by collecting relevant data from nearby objects. However, this data is useful for a specific vehicle only. Moreover, vehicles get a high amount of data (e.g., traffic, safety, and multimedia infotainment) on the road. Thus, vehicles expect adequate storage devices for this data, but it is infeasible to have a large memory in each vehicle. Hence, the vehicular cloud computing (VCC) framework came into the picture to provide a storage facility by connecting a road-side-unit (RSU) with the vehicular cloud (VC). In this, data should be saved in an encrypted form to preserve security, but there is a challenge to search for information over encrypted data. Next, we understand that many of vehicular communication schemes are inefficient for data transmissions due to its poor performance results and vulnerable to different fundamental security attacks. Accordingly, on-device performance is critical, but data damages and secure on-time connectivity are also significant challenges in a public environment. Therefore, we propose reliable data transmission protocols for cutting-edge architecture to search data from the storage, to resist against various security attacks, and provide better performance results. Using micromagnetic simulation, we investigate the self-sustained oscillation of magnetic skyrmion in a ferromagnetic circular nanodot, driven by spin-torque which is generated from a reference layer of a circular nanopillar device. We demonstrate, by lowering the value of uniaxial anisotropy constant ($K_u$), the velocity of the skyrmion can be increased and using this property, gyration frequency of the skyrmion oscillator can be enhanced. Annihilation of the skyrmion at higher current densities, limit the gyration frequency of the oscillator, whereas by modifying the $K_u$ value at the edge of nanodot, we are able to protect the skyrmion from being annihilated at higher current densities which in turn, increases the gyration frequency of the skyrmion based oscillator. By linear fitting the velocity value, obtained from the motion of the skyrmion in a nanostrip, we also predict the gyration frequency of the skyrmion in the nanodot which proves the validity of our idea in an intuitive way. We have also varied the radius of the nanodisk to see its effect on skyrmion.

The study of the effects of scaling on magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) devices has become an important topic in the field of spin-based memory devices. Here, we investigate the effect of elastic dephasing on trilayer and pentalayer MTJ considered at small transverse cross-sectional areas using the non-equilibrium Green's function spin transport formalism. We consider the structures with and without dephasing effects and clearly point out as to how the tunnel magnetoresistance effect gets affected by dephasing. We attribute the trends noted by analyzing the transmission spectra and hence the currents across the devices. Although dephasing affects the TMR values for both devices, we note that the obtained TMR values are still in a reasonable range that may not hinder their usability for practical applications.
