Using mobile sink increases the coverage time and energy expenditure when there is a burst traffic condition in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Hence, it is essential to handle burst traffic using mobile sinks in an energy-efficient mobility manner. In most studies, mechanisms of the clustering and routing have not taken into account burst traffic. In fact, the number of studies with integrated mobile sink nodes, burst traffic awareness, multi-criteria cluster head (CH) selection, and mobile sink routing is negligible. For this purpose, a novel burst traffic awareness adaptive mobility scheme is proposed based on heterogeneous clustered WSNs, namely Burst Traffic Awareness-Mobility Model (BTA-MM). In the proposed scheme, the network area is first divided into two cluster groups. The CH selection is performed for each round by the average residual energy an d node load, taking into account the network coverage. An adaptive Gauss–Markov-burst traffic combination model is proposed in the study. In the proposed model, the mobile sinks collect all data in a single-hop communication as soon as they join the coverage intersection points (CIPs) of the CHs. The mobility model utilizes the adaptive minimum-weighted cost of the nodes. Once the burst packets are perceived in a CH, the data packets are backed up on the nearest and highest energy node in the cluster. Then, the mobile sink suddenly updates its trajectory towards the node, including the burst data traffic. Performance analysis of the proposed scheme was performed in NS-2 simulation environment. The most notable of the performance results is that the proposed method increased the network lifetime 42.5% more than any other method and also reduced the control overhead and average mobile path length by 72.5% and 35.9%, respectively. Also, the simulation results showed that the proposed method significantly reduced the average energy consumption 34.2% more than any other method, and increased the packet delivery rate 4.5% more than any other method, even in burst traffic. [Display omitted] • Proposing the multi-criteria CH selection algorithm. • Defining the adaptive burst-traffic aware mobility model in a heterogeneous clustered network. • Improving the Gauss–Markov-burst traffic mobility model. • Proposing the adaptive minimum weighted cost to find the coverage intersection points of the CHs. • Saving the burst data at the closest and highest energy node belong to the CHs. The performance analysis of an energy constrained Internet of Things (IoT) system with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is provided in this paper. In the considered system, a power beacon is used for the energy supply of a sensor node that has no other power sources, while the UAV is used for the collection of sensor data. The outage and capacity performances are analyzed under the assumption of a Nakagami-m fading environment, for the case when the power and information transfer are performed based on the time-switching protocol and the UAV is randomly positioned at a certain height. Based on the provided analysis we derive the exact closed-form expressions for the outage probability, the outage capacity and the ergodic capacity of the power beacon assisted IoT system. The analytical results are confirmed using an independent simulation method. The performed analysis demonstrates the impact of various system and channel parameters on system performances.

A large number of participants are required to complete specific tasks to sense data and obtain the sensing information in Mobile Crowdsensing. In order to ensure the real-time effectiveness and comprehensiveness of the sensing information, this paper proposes a participant service quality aware data collecting mechanism with high coverage. Firstly, the service quality is measured by the willingness and regional preference of participants to analyze the real-time effectiveness of the sensing data. Then the sensing data coverage is evaluated according to the number of target points covered by the participants during the execution of sensing tasks. Furthermore, the efficiency of the participants is determined by service quality and data coverage under the condition of a limited platform budget. Finally, an iterative greedy algorithm is designed to select the sensing data from the participants set with the highest efficiency, so the coverage of sensing data can be efficiently optimized. The results demonstrate that the proposed data collecting mechanism can reduce the total reward for participants, make the tasks accomplished more efficiently, and effectively collect sensing data with high coverage.

- Abstract
The authenticity and integrity of sensed data in the data collection stage is a very critical aspect for the smart city industrial environment. They impact the accuracy of data analysis and the objectivity of making decisions. However, how to identify attack behaviors from environmental interference and establish a secure route to transmit data for resource-constrained terminals are challenging problems. To address these problems, in this article, we propose a trust-based security system (TSS). In TSS, we first design a trust model using binomial distribution for calculating the node's trust value and a third-party recommendation scheme for improving the objectivity of trust value. Then, we propose a trust management scheme for preventing the on–off attack. After that, we design a secure routing protocol, which is used to balance the security, transmission performance, and energy efficiency. Finally, the analytical results of the TSS are evaluated with extensive simulation experiment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

By using drones as mobile IoT gateways in wireless sensor networks, data collection can be possible even in areas where IoT wireless communication is not available. A drone can move near the rendezvous node of the wireless sensor networks and receive the collected data from the node. Then, the drone moves to an area where IoT wireless communication is possible and transfers the data to the IoT server. Because drones operate as a battery, it is important to optimize the energy consumption. Existing research reduces the drone's energy consumption by minimizing flight distance using predetermined information such as the orbit, sensor location and network topology. However, if data collection fails, the additional flying distance of the drone increases dramatically and energy consumption also increases. It is important to increase the success rate of data collection. In this paper, we propose a dynamic rendezvous node estimation scheme, taking into account the average of drone speed and data collection latency without predetermined information. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is more reliable in terms of the data collection success rate.

Task participants' malicious behavior can significantly reduce the credibility of mobile crowd sensing (MCS). To solve this problem, this paper proposed a data collection mechanism that analyzed and quantified participants' historical reputation according to their willingness and the quality of data they had shared, and then updated their current reputation through the logistic regression model. Simultaneously, to measure the authenticity of the collected data, the participants were divided into two types:those who were related to direct transmission of sensing data and second, those who were involved in indirect forwarding of these, which was based on the remaining transmission time of sensing data and residual energy of mobile equipment. Then the server analyzed the accuracy of data collected by participants according to the multitasking scenario. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism can significantly improve the perceived tasks performed in real time, greatly upgrade the quality of sensing data, and effectively reduce the reward expenses.

Large sensor networks require the collection and analysis of data from a large number of sensors. The number of sensors that can be controlled per micro controller is limited. In this paper, we propose how to aggregate sensor data from a large number of sensors using a large number of microcontrollers and multiple bridge nodes, and design and implement an efficient communication system for sensor data collection. Bridge nodes aggregate data from multiple microcontrollers using SPI communication, and transfer the aggregated data to PC servers using wireless TCP/IP communication. In this paper, the communication system was constructed using the Open H/W Aduo Mini and ESP8266 and performance of the system was analyzed. The performance analysis results showed that more than 30 sensing data can be collected per second from more than 700 sensors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Our goal was to learn about monitoring and enforcement of state assisted living (AL) regulations. Using survey responses provided in 2019 from administrative agents across 48 states, we described state agency structures, accounted for operational processes concerning monitoring and enforcement, and documented data collecting and public reporting efforts. In half of the states, oversight of AL was dispersed across three or more agencies, and administrative support varied in terms of staffing and budget allocations. Operations also varied. While most agents could deploy a range of monitoring and enforcement tools, less than half compiled data concerning inspections, violations, and penalties. Less than 10 states shared such information in a manner that was easily accessible to the public. Future research should determine how these varied administrative structures and processes deter or contribute to AL communities’ efforts to implement regulations designed to promote quality of life and provide for the safety of residents.

The amazing progresses achieved in both data collecting and transferring have confronted us with a vast volume of stored and transient data. Analyzing such data can result in valuable knowledge providing a competitive advantage in support of decision-making. However, the high volume of the data makes it impossible to analyze such data manually. Data mining methods have been developed to automate this process. These methods extract useful knowledge from a massive amount of data. The vast majority of available methods focus on finding different types of patterns from various kinds of data whereas a few of them pay enough attention to the usability of mined patterns. Subsequently, there is a noticeable gap between delivered patterns and business expectations. Actionable Knowledge Discovery (AKD) is motivated to narrow this gap. Up to now, many AKD methods have been proposed. However, there is no comprehensive survey summarizing different aspects of such methods. Moreover, the lack of clear definitions and boundaries in this area makes it challenging to detect comparable methods. This paper aims at clarifying definitions and boundaries of AKD area. In this regard, some viewpoints are defined, and AKD methods are categorized by use of them. In addition, AKD methods are reviewed, and finally, a characterization table is presented that concludes the survey and can be used for studying different methods in AKD area.

This study aimed to unpack higher education teachers’ beliefs about grading decision making. A qualitative approach was employed in this study to answer the research question. In-depth semi-structured interview as the main data collecting technique was utilized to gather any information from higher education teachers. Four higher education teachers with different educational backgrounds and teaching experiences volunteered to be the participants. Three main themes were generated from the data i.e., the factors considered in grading decision making, the most challenging parts in grading, and handing students’ complaints about grades. This study indicates that developing assessment rubrics, discussing them with students, and documenting them in the learning contract may be effective strategies for teachers to remind the students of the course requirements to reach minimum criteria of mastery learning.

As advances in technology make payloads and instruments for space missions smaller, lighter, and more power efficient, a distinct segment market is emerging for low-cost missions on very small spacecrafts such as - micro, nano, and picosatellites. Due to the fact that even after many technological advances the usage of miniature satellites the remote sensing of atmospheric is still not a widely explored aspect, to overcome this we idealized a system to build a CUBESAT which can be built with minimal efforts. We proposed this system with an objective to build a CUBESAT to detect different weather aspects of our earth at the troposphere layer which is the lowest layer of earth. We implemented our project using the Raspberry Pi due to its versatility in multi-processing and connectivity. Here the Raspberry-Pi is going to be configured with transceiver modules in the CUBESAT’s sender-end to gather atmospheric data associated with temperature, gasses present, humidity and pressure using CUBESAT sensors and after the reception of data at ground station by Arduino configured as receiver, data is going to be stored in an accessible website for viewing and further computations.

Dessa slutsatser baseras på respondenternas egna åsikter och tidigare upplevelser., The purpose of this study is to, by using a combined method, investigate which factors influence consumers' decision-making processes and what consumers perceive as intrusive on personal integrity, in the context of personalized marketing. To achieve the purpose of the study, a certain number of consumers were surveyed through semi structured interviews and via a questionnaire. The results show that reliability, various payment options, delivery- and return policies and various benefits, are factors that affect consumers' decision-making processes.
