We describe features of the LSST science database that are amenable to scientific data mining, object classification, outlier identification, anomaly detection, image quality assurance, and survey science validation. Abstract

The sphingid moth larvae are voracious defoliators of several crops. The present study was conducted to investigate damage of Acherontia styx on Jasmine, their seasonal incidence, and bioecology. Larval instars fed on jasmine leaves and flowers, with the highest defoliation being 35% and highest flower damage 47% during September. The lifecycle consisted of egg, five larval instars, pupal, and adult stages. The eggs were pearly white in colour and emerged larvae were cylindrical with a prominent anal horn. In subsequent moults the larvae continued to feed and become larger until they turned a reddish colour and ceased feeding prior to pupating in the soil. Adult moths were robust and swift fliers. The total life cycle from egg to adult was 56 days for males and 59 days for females. Trichogramma achaeae Nagaraja & Nagarkatti was noticed and documented as a potential egg parasitoid of the sphingid moth, a new record. A natural parasitization of eggs was noticed under field conditions, with changed colour of eggs to deep black from which a tiny parasitic wasp emerged, identified as T. achaea. Abstract

The efficacy of plant essential oils as botanical biocides against twospotted spider mites, Tetranychus urticae, was evaluated under laboratory conditions to prevent damage to Jasminum sambac plants. Among the different oils tested, neem oil showed better performance, where 78.13% mortality over untreated control was recorded, followed by horticultural mineral oil inducing 77.61% mortality. Lemon grass oil, pungam oil, and citrus peel oil were also significantly toxic to the mites showing mortality of 70.67, 64.35, and 60.31%, respectively. Castor oil was the least toxic to the mites, with 52.85% mortality. Further, the toxic regression lines of the bestperformed essential oils, that is, neem oil, horticultural mineral oil, and lemon grass oil, provided the LC50 and LC95 values of 2.25, 3.04, and 3.77% and 16.22, 27.12, and 32.5%, respectively, after 24 h of treatment showing the highest toxicity of neem oil in mite management. Abstract

Herbivore-induced volatiles were extracted from fresh healthy jasmine plants (Jasminum sambac L.) and infested jasmine plants damaged by two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae and analyzed through Gas Chromatography- Mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to determine volatile hydrocarbon profile in them. Further, olfactometer behavioral bioassay was conducted to investigate the preference of the predator, Scolothrips sexmaculatus to the emitted volatiles. The results revealed that both the healthy and plants infested with two-spotted mites had emitted organic volatile compounds (VOC's) numbering 19 and 31 respectively and some compounds were detected twice or even thrice. The variation in the volatile constituents of healthy and damaged plants clearly depicts the emission of volatiles responsible for attracting beneficials witnessing tritrophic interactions in jasmine ecosystem. The mite infested plants emanated potential natural enemy attractants such as ally isothocyanate, styrene, naphthalene, Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and several other organic compounds. The compound allyl isothiocyanate was detected in two-spotted mite infested jasmine extracts at 4.307 mts in a peak area of 1664139 mm2. Allyl isothiocyanate serves the plant as a defense against herbivores; since it is harmful to the plant. Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, a six-carbon compound was detected due to herbivory of mite infested plants in a peak area of 4112779391 mm2 implying its maximum presence. Dicacodyl phthalate, another compound, was detected in a peak area of 20400249 mm² at 30.97 mins. The healthy jasmine plants emanated natural enemy attractants, linalool, methyl salicylate and alpha-farnesene, aside from other volatile organic compounds. In the olfactometer behavioural bioassay studies, maximum number of released mite predator, S. sexmaculatus, oriented on mite infested jasmine plant volatiles (18.5 nos), and healthy plant volatiles (5.5 nos). The volatile organic compounds detected in enormous quantities in mite infested jasmine plants is a positive cue for commercial preparation of artificial lures to attract mite natural enemies in jasmine ecosystem. The predatory thrips lured to mite infested volatiles enrolls an encouraging sign to be exploited in integrated management of mites to enhance the efficacy of potential natural enemies of two-spotted spider mites. Abstract

This work investigates the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of four solar – wind off grid hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) models to provide electrification for Okorobo-Ile town in Andoni Local Government Area of River State, Nigeria using the Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Electric Renewables (HOMER) software. In particular, investigation of the possible inclusion of a fuel cell (FC) system is performed. The four considered models are: pv/wind/battery (PWB); pv/wind/battery/gen-set (PWBG), pv/wind/fuel-cell (PWF) and pv/wind/battery/fuel-cell (PWBF). The best cost-effective configuration among the set of systems were examined for the electricity requirement of 677.75 kWh/day primary load with 99.1 kW peak load. Results obtained showed that the net present cost (NPC) are $615,664.95, $679,348.17, $778,834.22 and $3,534,850.54 respectively for the PWB, PWBG, PWBF and PWF. The cost of energy (COE) was lowest for the PWB with a value of $$0.158 and highest for the PWF with a value of $0.964. The renewable options—PWBF and PWF have higher long-term costs but offer cleaner emissions. In contrast, options with the Diesel-Powered Generator is cost-effective but has a high environmental impact in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. These emissions include 3,758 kg/yr CO2, 23.7 kg/yr CO and a total of 32.67 kg/yr of unburned hydrocarbons, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter and nitrogen oxides. Based on the results, a stand - alone HRES that consist of 166 kW PV panels, 3 wind turbines 29 batteries and 123 kW converter is found to be the best configuration for the village, as it leads to minimum net present cost (NPC) and COE. The PWB system offers the best choice for the community by balancing financial considerations with sustainability which is crucial when making energy system choices. Results also show that while hydrogen, FC system and the electrolyzer can be used together with or without batteries, inclusion of the FC system resulted in the high NPC due to their high cost of investment.
