The WHO declared the current outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) a pandemic on March 11, 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic shook the entire world on January 2020 last year and is still posing a major threat to the entire humanity. In order to manage the urgent psychological need for support in response to the anticipated reaction of the population to the COVID-19 pandemic, the authors, who are members of Psychiatry Department, Fayoum University, Egypt, developed a new psychological crisis intervention model by implementing a psychological support system. The idea came to light at the time of the first wave of COVID19 in Egypt, at the mid of May 2020 when the negative psychological impact of the virus was observed and constituted a great demand on the outcome of the virus. a major external stressor, COVID-19 pandemic with all its negative consequences as the lockdown, social obligations, changes in routine and online schooling, health concerns, rapidly increasing affected cases and deaths constitutes a major health concern which heavily affected the psychological wellbeing. Parents are highly vulnerable group and showed high levels of perceived stress during this critical period. This study aimed to assess the stress experienced by parents during the COVID period. Online Google forms and hard copies contained demographic data, perceived stress scale and risk factors were filled by parents (with age ranges from 20-60) of offspring aged till 18 years old. 1265 valid questionnaires with vast majority (93.9%) were mothers. Moderate degree of stress was found in 70.3%. Multivariate regression model for predicting PSS was significantly related to the age category, parenthood and history of psychic trauma. Majority of parents experienced moderate to high grades of stress. The perceived stress was more evident in mothers, also affected by other factors which affect resilience like age, history of previous psychic trauma, and history of COVID infection. Background: The complex developmental disease known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is marked by impaired social interaction, communication, in addition to decreased bone mineral density (BMD). Physical therapy can be one of the complementary therapies for autistic children. Purpose of the Study: To inspect the efficacy of group exercise program on social skills and BMD in children with ASD. Patients and Methods: Thirty children diagnosed with mild ASD were included. They were randomized into two groups. Group A (control) was given calcium supplement, vitamin D, and speech therapy. Group B (study) was given the same program of the control group A in addition to group exercise program, which was conducted for conducted for 60 minutes, three sessions per week. All participants in both groups underwent treatment program for successive three months. They were assessed by The Autism Social Skills Profile (ASSP) and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) pre and post intervention. Results: The study group experienced a significant rise in ASSP after treatment in comparison with before treatment, whereas the control group didn't show any significant change. The study group and control group experienced a significant rise in BMD after treatment in comparison with before treatment. The study group exhibited a statistically significant enhancement in comparison with the control group across all assessed variables after treatment. Conclusion: From the findings of the study, it can be concluded that the group exercise program has beneficial impacts on improving social interaction and BMD in children suffering from ASD.
