Abstract: The International Muon Collider Collaboration (IMCC) [1] was established in 2020 following the recommendations of the European Strategy for Particle Physics (ESPP) and the implementation of the European Strategy for Particle Physics-Accelerator R&D Roadmap by the Laboratory Directors Group [2], hereinafter referred to as the the European LDG roadmap. The Muon Collider Study (MuC) covers the accelerator complex, detectors and physics for a future muon collider. In 2023, European Commission support was obtained for a design study of a muon collider (MuCol) [3]. This project started on 1st March 2023, with work-packages aligned with the overall muon collider studies. In preparation of and during the 2021-22 U.S. Snowmass process, the muon collider project parameters, technical studies and physics performance studies were performed and presented in great detail. Recently, the P5 panel [4] in the U.S. recommended a muon collider R&D, proposed to join the IMCC and envisages that the U.S. should prepare to host a muon collider, calling this their "muon shot". Abstract: The status of the LINrem project is presented, focusing on the development of innovative neutron dosimeters with enhanced energy sensitivity, time resolution, and portability. Designed to meet the technical demands of radiation protection in modern particle and nuclear facilities, these dosimeters are discussed in detail. Results from experimental campaigns showcasing their efficacy in pulsed fields generated by fusion plasmas and high-intensity pulsed lasers are presented. 6. Impact of the 2008 $$M_W$$ M W 7.9 Great Wenchuan earthquake on South China microplate motion

Abstract: Abstract Tectonic plate motions drive the earthquake cycle, as they result in the slow accrual and sudden release of energy along plate boundaries. Steadiness of plate motions over the earthquake cycle is a central tenet of the plate tectonics theory and has long been a main pillar in models of earthquake genesis, or of plate-margins seismic potential inferred from slip-deficit estimates. The advent of geodesy in the geosciences and the availability of multi-year-long series of position measurements permit tracking the motions of tectonic plates from before to after the time of significant seismic events that occur along their margins. Here, we present evidence that large earthquakes are capable of modifying the motions of entire microplates. We use high precision Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) position time-series covering the periods 2001–2004 and 2014–2017 to demonstrate that, contrary to the tenet above, the South China microplate motion changed after the 2008 $$M_W$$ M W 7.9 Great Wenchuan earthquake. The GNSS data and associated uncertainties indicate a plate motion slowdown of up to 20% that is beyond the possible impact of data noise and is thus tectonically meaningful. We use quantitative models of torque balance to show that generating this kinematic change requires a force upon the South China microplate compatible with that imparted by the Great Wenchuan earthquake of 2008. The existence of a kinematic signal linked to the earthquake cycle that impacts an entire microplate might offer an additional, novel perspective to assessing the hazards of earthquake-prone tectonic regions.

Abstract: miniBELEN is a modular and transportable neutron moderated counter with a nearly flat neutron detection efficiency up to 10 MeV. Modularity implies that the moderator can be reassembled in different ways in order to obtain different types of response. The detector has been developed in the context of the Measurement of Alpha Neutron Yields (MANY) collaboration, which is a scientific effort aiming to carry out measurements of (alpha,n) production yields, reaction cross-sections and neutron energy spectra. In this work we present and discuss several configurations of the miniBELEN detector. This Review summarises the status and the recent advances on muon colliders design, physics and detector studies. The aim is to provide a global perspective of the field and to outline directions for future work.

Abstract: A tropospheric O3 pollution episode over the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula during 2–6 August 2018 has been analyzed. The episode was characterized by a permanent wind shear throughout the entire period, making the observed ozone surface distribution especially difficult to explain. A new methodology is described to analyze upper-level atmospheric parameters, such as temperature, wind direction, wind speed, and O3 concentrations, added to the traditional use of surface parameters, using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) and Comprehensive Air Quality Model with Extensions (CAMx) models as well as available surface and upper-air observations. Results indicate that the episode was characterized by a first phase of a sudden increase in O3 concentrations produced by fumigation and inter-regional transport processes within the Iberian Peninsula, followed by continental O3 transport from Europe to the Atlantic coast. An Atlantic front produced the dissipation of the episode, generating an “ozone front” accompanying the cold front passage across the region.

Abstract: The precise measurement of physics observables and the test of their consistency within the standard model (SM) are an invaluable approach, complemented by direct searches for new particles, to determine the existence of physics beyond the standard model (BSM). Studies of massive electroweak gauge bosons (W and Z bosons) are a promising target for indirect BSM searches, since the interactions of photons and gluons are strongly constrained by the unbroken gauge symmetries. They can be divided into two categories: (a) Fermion scattering processes mediated by s- or t-channel W/Z bosons, also known as electroweak precision measurements; and (b) multi-boson processes, which include production of two or more vector bosons in fermion-antifermion annihilation, as well as vector boson scattering (VBS) processes. The latter categories can test modifications of gauge-boson self-interactions, and the sensitivity is typically improved with increased collision energy. This report evaluates the achievable precision of a range of future experiments, which depend on the statistics of the collected data sample, the experimental and theoretical systematic uncertainties, and their correlations. In addition it presents a combined interpretation of these results, together with similar studies in the Higgs and top sector, in the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT) framework. Abstract: A future Higgs Factory will provide improved precision on measurements of Higgs couplings beyond those obtained by the LHC, and will enable a broad range of investigations across the fields of fundamental physics, including the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking, the origin of the masses and mixing of fundamental particles, the predominance of matter over antimatter, and the nature of dark matter. Future colliders will measure Higgs couplings to a few per cent, giving a window to beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics in the 1-10 TeV range. In addition, they will make precise measurements of the Higgs width, and characterize the Higgs self-coupling. Abstract: El objetivo de este artículo es analizar como la bioética hermenéutica puede incorporarse al estudio de la fibromialgia, entendida como una enfermedad que, dadas sus características, excede los límites disciplinarios de la medicina. La hermenéutica, entendida como la interpretación de las narrativas, puede considerarse una herramienta dentro de la práctica clínica al priorizar la subjetividad del padecer de las personas que padecen fibromialgia en el encuentro entre el profesional de la salud y el paciente. Este escrito explica brevemente la fibromialgia y sus implicaciones en el campo de la bioética. Posteriormente se describen los conceptos básicos de la bioética hermenéutica, retomando a Paul Ricoeur con el objetivo de reconstruir el modo en el que las personas con fibromialgia desarrollan una identidad hermenéutica por medio de su narratividad. Por último, se plantean posibles formas en las que la bioética hermenéutica puede aplicarse a la práctica médica.

23. Water quality indexes and water quality population perception in a rural area in Ecuador

Abstract: This studỳs aim was to evaluate the quality of water for human consumption in a rural area of Ecuador. For this purpose, two water quality indexes were used: the Water Quality Index (WQI) and the Simplified Water Quality Index (SWQI). Sampling campaigns were carried out during the years 2018 and 2019, and 18 parameters were analyzed, including pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, color, phosphates, nitrites, nitrates, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, turbidity, methylene blue active substances, fats and oils, total coliforms, ammonia, nitrogen, and fecal coliforms. The WQI and the SWQI yielded values between 79.80 and 81.31 (2018) and between 76.99 and 79.89 (2019), respectively. Multivariate statistical methods were applied to implement water management recommendations. The perception of water quality was assessed through a survey of the population. This study contributes to recommending a proposal for the adoption of a WQI in Ecuador. The obtained results indicate that the water in the studied area needs the conventional treatment to achieve adequate quality for human consumption. HIGHLIGHTS The application of the Water Quality Index (WQI) and the Simplified Water Quality Index (SWQI) was efficient to evaluate the quality of water for human consumption.; The WQI and the SWQI obtained in a rural area in Ecuador indicate that water requires conventional treatment.; Principal component analysis allows identifying the relationships between parameters used to measure the WQI.;

Abstract: Abstract Streptococcus suis is a zoonotic pathogen that causes a major health problem in the pig production industry worldwide. Spain is one of the largest pig producers in the world. This work aimed to investigate the genetic and phenotypic features of invasive S. suis isolates recovered in Spain. A panel of 156 clinical isolates recovered from 13 Autonomous Communities, representing the major pig producers, were analysed. MLST and serotyping analysis revealed that most isolates (61.6%) were assigned to ST1 (26.3%), ST123 (18.6%), ST29 (9.6%), and ST3 (7.1%). Interestingly, 34 new STs were identified, indicating the emergence of novel genetic lineages. Serotypes 9 (27.6%) and 1 (21.8%) prevailed, followed by serotypes 7 (12.8%) and 2 (12.2%). Analysis of 13 virulence-associated genes showed significant associations between ST, serotype, virulence patterns, and clinical features, evidencing particular virulence traits associated with genetic clusters. The pangenome was generated, and the core genome was distributed in 7 Bayesian groups where each group included a variable set of over- and under-represented genes of different categories. The study provides comprehensive data and knowledge to improve the design of new vaccines, antimicrobial treatments, and bacterial typing approaches.

Abstract: La sedimentación del embalse de Marmolejo incrementa el riesgo de inundación en el Municipio de Andújar (Jaén, España) situado en la cola del embalse. La administración hidráulica española ha diseñado una serie de medidas de protección cuya efectividad queda condicionada al nivel de sedimentación del embalse. Con la información batimétrica y de aforos de sedimentos en suspensión se ha calculado la ley de aportación de sedimentos al embalse. Ha sido necesario el empleo de técnicas de supercomputación y machine learning, así como un nuevo modelo de transporte de sedimento en suspensión, para calibrar un modelo numérico bidimensional del embalse, que ha permitido reproducir la evolución histórica del proceso de sedimentación. Finalmente se ha desarrollado una herramienta web que simula la sedimentación en el embalse en función del criterio de gestión de compuertas, a fin de optimizar la explotación del embalse y mantener la sedimentación en niveles de seguridad para Andújar.

28. Global SMEFT Fits at Future Colliders

Abstract: Based on the framework of Standard Model Effective Field Theory, we performed a few global fits, each containing a subset of dimension-6 operators, for the measurements that are expected at future colliders. The fit for the Higgs and electroweak sector improves what has been done for the European Strategy Update in 2020 on both EFT treatments and experimental inputs. A new comprehensive fit is performed focusing on 4-fermion interactions at future colliders. Top-quark sector is studied in a dedicated fit which restricts the operators and measurements to be directly related to top-quark. A small subset of CP-violating operators involving bosonic fields alone are also investigated. Various running scenarios for future e+e- and Muon Colliders that are suggested in the Snowmass 2021 discussion are considered in the global fits. The outcomes from each fit are expressed in terms of either direct constraint on Wilson Coefficients or precision on Higgs and electroweak effective couplings., Comment: Contributed Paper to Snowmass 2021. Abstract: We report results on the long-term variation of the neutron counting rate at the Canfranc Underground Laboratory, of importance for several low-background experiments installed there, including rare-event searches. The measurement campaign was performed employing the High Efficiency Neutron Spectrometry Array (HENSA) mounted in Hall A and lasted 412 live days. The present study is the first long-term measurement of the neutron rate with sensitivity over a wide range of neutron energies (from thermal up to 0.1 GeV and beyond) performed in any underground laboratory so far. Data on the environmental variables inside the experimental hall (radon concentration, air temperature, air pressure and humidity) were also acquired during all the measurement campaign. Abstract: A GNSS signal authentication concept named semi-assisted authentication is proposed. It is based on the re-encryption and publication of keystream sequences of some milliseconds from an already existing encrypted signal. Some seconds after the keystreams are transmitted in the signal-in-space, the signal broadcasts the key allowing to decrypt the sequences and the a-posteriori correlation at the receiver. The concept is particularized as Galileo Assisted Commercial Authentication Service, or ACAS, for Galileo E1-B, with OSNMA used for the decryption keys, and E6C, assumed to be encrypted in the near future. This work proposes the ACAS cryptographic operations and a model for signal processing and authentication verification. Semi-assisted authentication can be provided without any modification to the signal plan of an existing GNSS, without the disclosure of signal encryption keys, and for several days of receiver autonomy, depending on its storage capabilities.

Abstract: We assess the impact of the very recent measurement of the top-quark mass by the CMS Collaboration on the fit of electroweak data in the Standard Model and beyond, with particular emphasis on the prediction for the mass of the W boson. We then compare this prediction with the average of the corresponding experimental measurements including the new measurement by the CDF Collaboration, and discuss its compatibility in the Standard Model, in new physics models with oblique corrections, and in the dimension-six Standard Model Effective Field Theory. 35. Arithmetic Word Problems Revisited: Cognitive Processes and Academic Performance in Secondary School

Abstract: Solving arithmetic word problems is a complex task that requires individuals to activate their working memory resources, as well as the correct performance of the underlying executive processes involved in order to inhibit semantic biases or superficial responses caused by the problem's statement. This paper describes a study carried out with 135 students of Secondary Obligatory Education, each of whom solved 5 verbal arithmetic problems: 2 consistent problems, whose mathematical operation (add/subtract) and the verbal statement of the problem coincide, and 3 inconsistent problems, whose required operation is the inverse of the one suggested by the verbal term(s). Measures of reading comprehension, visual--spatial reasoning and deductive reasoning were also obtained. The results show the relationship between arithmetic problems and cognitive measures, as well as the ability of these problems to predict academic performance. Regression analyses confirmed that arithmetic word problems were the only measure with significant power of association with academic achievement in both History/Geography ([beta] = 0.25) and Mathematics ([beta] = 0.23).

Abstract: A pesar de la mala fama y reputación de las arañas, la realidad es que su mordedura ocurre de manera accidental y es peligrosa únicamente en un número muy limitado de casos. Sin embargo, durante los últimos años se está observando un aumento significativo de los casos de mordeduras en España, principalmente atribuidas a la especie Loxosceles rufescens (Dufour,1820), vulgarmente conocida como la araña reclusa mediterránea, cuyo veneno citotóxico, proteolítico y hemolítico, puede producir lesiones en la piel y causar un cuadro clínico conocido como loxoscelismo. En este estudio presentamos cuatro casos humanos de mordedura presuntivamente por L. rufescens en Mallorca, Gerona y Bizkaia, con diferente tipo de clínica y evolución tras la mordedura. Además, se aporta una sucinta revisión sobre otros casos de mordeduras ocurridos en España, orientaciones en la identificación de L. rufescens, así como de su biología, vigilancia, control integrado y tratamiento médico. El principal objetivo del presente artículo es arrojar información objetiva sobre estos artrópodos cuya aparición resulta cada vez más evidente, así como sensibilizar a la sociedad y concienciar a las autoridades de la necesidad de incluir a esta especie en los programas de vigilancia y control de plagas urbanas, ya que se trata de un problema de repercusión en la salud pública del ámbito privado y público.

Abstract: Esta investigación busca estudiar las formas en las que las plataformas de redes sociales hacen frente a la violencia sexual digital que se da en sus espacios. Para ello, se ha llevado a cabo un análisis cualitativo de las normativas y documentos de once plataformas, analizando qué centralidad es otorgada a la violencia sexual digital y qué tipos de respuesta se plantean ante este tipo de agresiones. Como resultado, se identifican cinco modelos de gobernanza: el modelo ausente, el de formalismo normativo, el implícito de responsabilidad delegada, el explícito de responsabilidad delegada, y el de incidencia. En general, a excepción del modelo de incidencia, se aborda la violencia sexual digital de manera ambigua, inscribiéndola en los marcos de la seguridad y la privacidad. Además, puede observarse una sobrerrepresentación de la violencia sexual basada en imágenes, así como una tendencia por parte de las plataformas a eximirse de responsabilidad.

Abstract: In the path towards a muon collider with center of mass energy of 10 TeV or more, a stage at 3 TeV emerges as an appealing option. Reviewing the physics potential of such muon collider is the main purpose of this document. In order to outline the progression of the physics performances across the stages, a few sensitivity projections for higher energy are also presented. There are many opportunities for probing new physics at a 3 TeV muon collider. Some of them are in common with the extensively documented physics case of the CLIC 3 TeV energy stage, and include measuring the Higgs trilinear coupling and testing the possible composite nature of the Higgs boson and of the top quark at the 20 TeV scale. Other opportunities are unique of a 3 TeV muon collider, and stem from the fact that muons are collided rather than electrons. Abstract: In this white paper for the 2021 Snowmass process, we give a description of the proposed Future Circular Collider (FCC) project and its physics program. The paper summarizes and updates the discussion submitted to the European Strategy on Particle Physics. After construction of an approximately 90 km tunnel, an electron-positron collider based on established technologies allows world-record instantaneous luminosities at center-of-mass energies from the Z resonance up to tt thresholds, enabling a rich set of fundamental measurements including Higgs couplings determinations at the sub percent level, precision tests of the weak and strong forces, and searches for new particles, including dark matter, both directly and via virtual corrections or mixing. Among other possibilities, the FCC-ee will be able to (i) indirectly discover new particles coupling to the Higgs and/or electroweak bosons up to scales around 7 and 50 TeV, respectively; (ii) perform competitive SUSY tests at the loop level in regions not accessible at the LHC; (iii) study heavy-flavor and tau physics in ultra-rare decays beyond the LHC reach, and (iv) achieve the best potential in direct collider searches for dark matter, sterile neutrinos, and axion-like particles with masses up to around 90 GeV. The tunnel can then be reused for a proton-proton collider, establishing record center-of-mass collision energy, allowing unprecedented reach for direct searches for new particles up to the around 50 TeV scale, and a diverse program of measurements of the Standard Model and Higgs boson, including a precision measurement of the Higgs self-coupling, and conclusively testing weakly-interacting massive particle scenarios of thermal relic dark matter., Comment: 84 pages

42. Higgs Precision at a 125 GeV Muon Collider

Abstract: The $s$-channel resonant production of the Higgs boson at a 125 GeV muon collider enables a unique way to determine the Higgs properties. However, a clear picture of the achievable Higgs precision has not yet been established. We perform a phenomenological study of the Higgs measurements at such resonant muon collider Higgs factory and present a systematic, detailed, and consistent extraction of Higgs precision measurements. Many new aspects about the lineshape scan, including the scaling with luminosity, optimal scan range, minimal scan steps, correlations with exclusive measurement, effective cross-section modeling, etc., are quantitatively studied in this work. All major exclusive Higgs channels are simulated and analyzed with Standard Model background, detection efficiencies, acceptance, angular distributions, and cross-channel correlations. Global analyses of the Higgs couplings are performed in the $\kappa$ framework and the effective-field-theory one. The results suggest that the 125 GeV muon-collider Higgs factory provides significant improvement to the Higgs coupling reach of the HL-LHC and provides independent and distinct Higgs precision information concerning future $e^+e^-$ colliders. We report results for both $5~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ and $20~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity. Abstract: This report presents the results of the Models and Effective Field Theories Subgroup of the Off-Shell Interpretations Task Force in the LHC Higgs Working Group. The main goal of the subgroup was to discuss and advance the potential impact of off-shell Higgs measurements on searches for BSM physics carried out in the EFT framework or as benchmark model studies. In the first contribution, the off-shell potential to resolve flat directions in parameter space for on-shell measurements is studied. Furthermore, the sensitivity of off-shell measurements to SMEFT dimension-6 operators for the gg $\to$ ZZ process is discussed, and studies of explicit models that are testable in off-shell production are reviewed. In the second contribution, the SMEFT effects in the off-shell gluon fusion and electroweak processes are discussed. Subsequently, the computation of integrated and differential effects using SMEFT@NLO and MG5_aMC@NLO, or JHUGen and MCFM, is demonstrated. On that basis, a study of the prospects of obtaining additional SMEFT constraints - beyond those from existing global fits - by utilising the off-shell process is presented. For clarification, a revised introduction, definition and discussion of the Higgs basis parametrisation of the SMEFT is given in the third contribution. In short notes on the SMEFT, the Higgs basis with an additional constraint is discussed and relations between the Higgs and Warsaw bases are presented. 44. Higgs probes of top quark contact interactions and their interplay with the Higgs self-coupling

Abstract: We calculate the dominant contributions of third generation four-quark operators to single-Higgs production and decay. They enter via loop corrections to Higgs decays into gluons, photons and $b\bar{b}$, and in Higgs production via gluon fusion and in association with top quark pairs. We show that these loop effects can, in some cases, lead to better constraints than those from fits to top quark data. 48. Survey to evaluate the proficiency in the use of antibacterial drugs in shrimp farming in the state of Sonora, Mexico

Abstract: Abstract Antibiotic drugs (ABD) are often used in shrimp farms to treat the disease when a bacterial diagnosis is presumed. This scenario was the impetus to carry out a field survey to define how ABD are employed in the State of Sonora, the second largest producer of shrimp in Mexico. Twenty‐nine farms were surveyed through their general managers. According to interviews conducted, the most frequent bacterial diseases that were treated with antibiotics in 2020 were: Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (65%), vibriosis (51%), and Necrotizing hepatopancreatitis bacterium (41%). The most common ABDs were enrofloxacin, oxytetracycline and florfenicol, and drug preparations employed were often intended for non‐aquaculture species, mainly poultry, and pigs. The main criteria for selecting a given antibiotic was a direct recommendation, followed by the market price. Neither pharmacokinetics nor pharmacodynamics nor harvesting withdrawal time were taken into account. The absence of protocols to safeguard the health and integrity of workers was detected, training programs for the responsible use of ABD were not encountered, and no data on bacterial resistance to ABD is available in this region. It is concluded that at least formal studies to define the pharmacokinetics of antibiotics are needed to rationalize their use in shrimp production.

49. Feedback between megathrust earthquake cycle and plate convergence

Abstract: Abstract Over million years, convergence between the Nazca and South America tectonic plates results in Andean orogeny. Over decades/centuries, it fuels the earthquake cycle of the Andean megathrust. It is well recognised that, over the geologically-long term of million years, Andean orogeny feeds back onto plate convergence rates, generating temporal changes documented throughout the Neogene. In contrast, no feedback mechanism operated over the geologically-short term by the earthquake cycle is currently contemplated. In fact, it is commonly assumed that the rates of contemporary convergence, which are accurately measured via geodesy, remain steady during the megathrust earthquake cycle. Here we investigate whether the contemporary Nazca/South America plate motion varies over year-/decade-long periods in response to megathrust stress variations associated with the earthquake cycle. We focus on the decade preceding the three largest and most recent $${\varvec{M_w > 8}}$$ M w > 8 earthquakes (2010 $${\varvec{M_w = 8.8}}$$ M w = 8.8 Maule, 2014 $${\varvec{M_w = 8.1}}$$ M w = 8.1 Iquique, 2015 $${\varvec{M_w = 8.3}}$$ M w = 8.3 Illapel), and find slowdowns of both Nazca and South America whole-plate motions that exceed the impact of data uncertainty or noise. We show that the torque variations required upon Nazca and South America to generate the slowdowns are consistent with that arising from the buildup of interseismic stress preceding the earthquakes.

Abstract: We perform a global fit of electroweak data within the Standard Model, using state-of-the art experimental and theoretical results, including a determination of the electromagnetic coupling at the electroweak scale based on recent lattice calculations. In addition to the posteriors for all parameters and observables obtained from the global fit, we present indirect determinations for all parameters and predictions for all observables. Furthermore, we present full predictions, obtained using only the experimental information on Standard Model parameters, and a fully indirect determination of Standard Model parameters using only experimental information on electroweak data. Finally, we discuss in detail the compatibility of experimental data with the Standard Model and find a global p-value of 0.5., Comment: 11 pages, 4 tables, 3 figures
