Mobile health monitoring services have the potential to provide individual health profiles and monitor patients’ health conditions. While there is a variety of systems and devices to help patient’s health management, there is little understanding regarding the factors that influence mobile health monitoring service perceptions. Thus, this UK study will examine the factors that influence users across different age groups towards well-being and Mobile Health monitoring services. This study applied a conceptual framework based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model to examine the factors that may influence the attitude towards mobile health services among consumers.

The term “Home Automation” can be referred to a networked home, which provides electronically controlled security and convenience for its users. Home automation is also defined as the integration of home-based technology and services for a better quality of living (Quynh, et al., 2012). The main purpose of home automation technologies is to enhance home comfort for everyone through the automation of higher security, domestic tasks and easy communication. Home automation should be able to enhance one’s capacity to interact with one’s living environment and engage in activities that would have been previously difficult or impossible. This is particularly significant in the case of disabled people, elderly or in general people who have special accessibility concerns for their home (Chan, et al., 2009). Currently, visions of future automated homes have provided inspiration for product designers to offer new ways of controlling and monitoring appliances. Innovation in control and monitor technology has involved incremental steps and a wide range of products has been developed which offer part of the functionality of more sophisticated systems. While smart home users are able to take advantage of some smart devices and home automation, for common issues there are still gaps that need to be considered in terms of accessibility when designing automated homes and effective smart products (Guilly, et al., 2016). Recent innovation and design management studies have used techniques usually referred to as co-creative design, which engages customers in product design in order to produce a mutually beneficial outcome (Dell'Era & Landoni, 2014). Furthermore, co-creation can enhance the innovation processes. However, despite the potential value that co-creative design can offer, there is surprisingly little research providing a strategic approach to this process (Frow, et al., 2015) . This research paper examines how co-creative design can develop accessibility for home automation systems.

Wearable technology as new emerging technology is expected to become mainstream, after the phenomena of the mass market adoption of smartphone usage especially in Malaysia (Osman et al., 2012; Lazim and Sasitharan, 2015), with various mobile applications developments for better daily lives. Recent technological innovations in mobile computing, enhancing the innovation of wearable computing technology, known as a body worn computing (Jhajharia et al., 2014; Buenaflor and Kim, 2013; Baber, 2001; Kuru and Erbuğ, 2013), facilitate users’ interaction at any time anywhere seamlessly. Wearable mobile computing refers to embedded electronic technologies worn on the human body as unobtrusively as apparel. This paper concerns the study of smartwatches that continuously provide an interface for many computing tasks, with mobile smartphones acting as a hub (Wei, 2014; Taib et al., 2016). The highest proliferation of wearable devices are currently smartwatches (Kim and Shin, 2015; Chuah et al., 2016; Choi and Kim, 2016) that are targeted to perform multitasking as a smartphone does. However, in term of users’ acceptance this is still at its infancy stage. It is a challenging field to predict what factors may drive potential users to accept this new emerging technology thus increasing innovation diffusion. The characteristic of wearable mobile computing is the ability to provide anytime/anywhere services. Mobility is the element of mobile computing technology which may influence smartwatch adoption (Kim and Shin, 2015). Thus, further study on the innovation adoption of wearable mobile technology is essential to give the insightful knowledge to researchers whether in academia or industry, service providers, software designer and adopters. This research study empirically examines the designed and development of framework (as shown in Figure 1) to deepen the understanding the factors that influence potential users to accept wearable mobile computing, integrating the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) factors (Davis, 1989); relative to aspects of perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEU); observability (OBS) selected from Diffusion of Innovation Theory (DOI) (Rogers, 1995); and other related factors of mobility (MOB), personalisation (PN), facilitating conditions (FC): as well as perceived enjoyment (PE) to integrate social influence (SI) and mobile application (MA) as the precursor underpinning the study. The survey is based on self-administered questionnaires (quantitative approach) adapted from literature which were distributed and analysed using IBM SPSS software (v.20). Data of 272 respondents from central and southern region of Malaysia comprising university students and a professional utilising clustering sample (Awang, 2012) was collected. Empirical findings from regression analysis revealed the dominant predicted factors are perceived usefulness, mobility linked factor with observability, perceived enjoyment linked factor with personalisation and facilitating condition significantly influence the potential users to accept wearable mobile computing in Malaysia. Perceived ease of use was found not significantly influencing the users’ acceptance of wearable mobile computing.

There are numerous issues and challenges faced by healthcare practitioners as principal end users to adopt healthcare innovation in their clinical works. The purpose of this paper is to identify the performance factors for telemedicine acceptance in Malaysia, based on the integration of technology acceptance and user satisfaction theories to adopt innovation technology. The conceptual model is developed based on factors mainly from Web-based Information System Success Model (WISSM) and The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) models. The model is tested using a sample of 213 users from five public hospitals with IT usages in the Central region of Malaysia. The result from revised model is presented and supports all factors of performance characteristics: decision support satisfaction, task support satisfaction and effort expectancy that significantly influenced the telemedicine system performance (TSP) outcomes: performance expectancy, telemedicine net benefit and telemedicine system expectation.

Telemedicine is essentially “the use of information and telecommunications technologies to provide and support health care services when distance separates the participants” (Field, 1996). A broader definition by the World Health Organisation (WHO, 1998) covers a range of applications including diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease and injuries as well as for the continuing education of health care providers. Many product developments have taken place resulting in various medical devices becoming commercially available which may form part of a telemedicine solution. However, the deployment of telemedicine systems is lagging behind the availability of IS (information systems) and medical devices. Thus, there is a need to look outside the traditional product design and development approaches to address the gap between the slow deployment and the available systems and technologies. Given the limited resources of healthcare providers a collaborative approach to business development is likely necessary due to funding limits as well as a lack of staff with the appropriate knowledge and skills. This paper takes a framework previously developed for mobile networking technologies and looks to ascertain its suitability to assist with business development for healthcare providers planning to implement telemedicine systems. The business planning framework for mobile networking technologies previously developed is shown in Figure 1. The business planning framework outlined in Figure 1 is a generic model which identifies key components by which business proposals can be examined and their potential value (Woodruff, 1997). This is likely to suit business development planning for telemedicine as recent studies have been less focused on the cost-effectiveness of telemedicine solutions and instead consider the broader benefits (Hailey et al, 2004), such as improved access for patients to services that is possible with remote physician-patient interaction. Various services are possible with the use of telemedicine systems including those identified by the American Telemedicine Association (ATA, 2014). These applications include “live” interactions such as patient consultations via video conferencing which will necessitate suitable ICT (information and communications technology) infrastructure to provide two-way access. The other telemedicine applications tend to be “off line” rather than “live” interactions and hence have less demanding technology requirements, so the telecommunications technology does not need to be so well supported in terms of bandwidth connectivity and performance. The business planning framework comprises two sides which need to be in alignment. The left-hand side identifies the elements to assess the market potential of potential applications. The right-hand side of the framework identifies the elements to assess the business case of a proposed application such as telemedicine and allows for collaborative business development. This second aspect is particularly important to consider when planning telemedicine deployment as various departments from organisations within healthcare need to be involved.

The purpose of this study is to propose a conceptual framework for telemedicine system performance in developing countries. The developing countries still having a big challenge in implementing telemedicine system and this research is assessing healthcare practitioner viewpoint in Malaysia. Malaysia has started implementation of telemedicine localise project since 1997. A framework model is developed to predict user interaction of the telemedicine system performance by three outputs: net benefit, system expectation and adoption. The outcomes of this research study should give insightful knowledge to researchers in academia and system implementer in developing countries.

Wearable technology has become mainstream in this information age, it is needed to understand how the potential users of this emerging technology gain value from the innovation of the technology, consequently increasing users’ diffusion. Extant literature on the acceptance of mobile computing has been developing such as in mobile banking services and in healthcare service, however, the study of users’ acceptance about the emergence of wearable mobile computing is still at the early stages. This paper examines the development of a conceptual framework to understand the technology adoption factors for wearable mobile computing utilizing the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Diffusion of Innovation Theory (DOI) and related factors on mobility and pervasive computing. Data of 272 respondents were collected using quantitative approach of survey based questionnaires conducted in Malaysia. The findings of this research revealed the factors of mobility (MOB), personalization (PN) and perceived enjoyment (PE) achieved the highest average score by respondents, followed by perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEU), observability (OBS), facilitating condition (FC) and social influence (SI). As wearable technology is perceived to be pervasive, mobility (MOB) and perceived enjoyment (PE) contribute the dominant factor for usage acceptance, while Perceived Usefulness (PU) from established model TAM, still plays an important factors in predicting innovation adoption of wearable mobile computing.

Telemedicine which has been widely adopted in developed countries to reach all its citizens irrespective of their location is only being used for education purposes or disaster relief in developing countries. Since developing countries already suffer inadequate healthcare provision especially in remote areas, it would be essential to implement telemedicine practices for daily clinical uses rather than education use. This research argues that to understand the future of telemedicine in developing countries, both well-established technology innovations adoption factors as well as co-innovation factors should be addressed. In the context of healthcare provision, we propose a conceptual framework that integrates the healthcare resources and the organisational affiliations in co-innovation.

Oil operations involve high levels of capital equipment and high capacity production processes for which performance measures can assist with monitoring production throughout the oil industry stages. The approach taken in this paper is to utilise the lifecycle approach of asset management as well as organisational resource factors in an integrative manner. This research will examine the use of performance measurement in both private and public oil companies with a focus on Developing Countries. National Oil companies are of national economic importance in Developing Countries. Thus purpose of this paper is to develop a conceptual framework for performance measures of current and future oil operations and the associated asset management for field operations. The approach taken is to recognise the national context and strategic drivers and then to examine within this context the three areas of: Asset Management; Oil Operations (including Technology and Development; Management approaches; Partnerships) and Performance Outcomes.

This paper reports on the findings of a study of 267 consumers on the first order selection criteria within a decision making model that utilizes the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate mobile banking service selection. The AHP analysis of the first order selection criteria for the full data sample identified ‘Time Saving’ as the highest ranked factor followed by ‘Control’ then ‘Any Place’ and lastly ‘Cost’. The survey also reports on consumer usage patterns for internet and mobile services as well as exploring their experiences with mobile banking services.

This work aims to develop a research framework to examine the impact of information technology resources on the innovation performance of Saudi small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs). SMEs innovation capability influences growth and technological progress (Bruque & Moyano, 2007). However, many developing countries exhibit moderate or even low innovation performance. For instance, Saudi Arabia is ranked 54th by the Global Innovation Index (GII 2011). Innovation systems studies focus on the alignment between the interactions of innovation actors with their constantly changing environment toward better innovation performance (Etzkowitz & Leydesdorff, 2000). The dynamic capabilities of organisations have been highlighted as a crucial characteristic that helps to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage (Teece et al., 1997). The indirect impact IT resources on innovation performance represents an attractive research area (Benitez-Amado et al., 2010). Therefore, we argue that a closer look at Saudi SMEs information technology resources and their impact on the firm dynamic capabilities and innovation performance would make a significant contribution to existing knowledge. Areas such as the organisation strategies of developing countries, innovation management, dynamic capabilities, open innovation and strategic information systems are few examples of areas that might benefit from this work.

Manufacturing firms are under many pressures both financially and competitive which focus attention on the performance of their manufacturing processes. In this paper the opportunities for improving the environmental impact of products within the constraints of existing manufacturing infrastructure are examined. Approaches which support sustainability in two aspects are proposed, firstly, the provision of products to the users in ways which extend the product life and secondly, manufacturing approaches which reduce resource usage. The provision and manufacture of products in ways that are truly sustainable are inhibited by three issues: firstly, decisions are predominantly made solely from the perspective of the “vendor” (and do not consider the wider perspective); secondly, that generally the scope of business planning is still rooted in production/manufacturing costs (and not consumption costs) and thirdly, the current performance measures (e.g. KPIs) mainly focus on profitability. The rationale for this conference paper is the argument that there is a need to raise the awareness during the earliest stages of business planning that there may be alternative approaches which are more sustainable. The concepts presented here will underpin further research into performance measures which encompass sustainability and resulting business planning implications.

Design for manufacture is well recognised by industry and is about optimising design to aid production. Today there is a significant and growing trend of recognising what happens to a product once its user phase has finished. Post-consumer processes are now an important consideration during the ab-initio stages of design. Rather than a focus limited to design for manufacture or (more recently) design for assembly now the pressure is on for post consumer design. Companies need to do this because legislative pressures are increasing and consumers are becoming ever more aware of, and concerned about, environmental issues. End-of-life processing and design for the environment are therefore areas of growing of interest. This conference paper investigates with industry practitioners their experiences regarding for both the environmental and economic advantages of product life-cycle planning. Legislative pressures and consumer awareness are driving businesses to develop sustainable product design strategies (Jones et al, 2001 p. 27). Changes within the law, to protect our environment, cause companies to pay attention as they begin to affect profitability. The first British Standard to address design for end-of-life processing, and therefore support industry, is BS 8887-1. Over 60 UK manufacturing and design companies that had bought BS 8887-1 contributed to this by being interviewed or providing a written response. The research investigated multiple aspects of sustainable design in practice however, in this conference paper the focus is its application within the design process.

This paper examines the forecasting implications for Product-Service Systems (PSS) applications in manufacturing firms. The approach taken is to identify the scope of operations for PSS applications by identifying all the activities associated with the total cost of ownership (TCO). The paper then develops a revenue model for manufacturing firms providing PSS applications. The revenue model identifies three generic revenue streams that provide the basis for discussion on the differences in forecasting approaches between product firms and Product-Service Systems (PSS) in manufacturing firms. The forecasting approaches are different due to the nature of customer involvement in the service aspect of PSS applications. This necessitates an understanding of the customer service experience and the factors affecting this such as the service profit chain which links profitability, customer loyalty and service value to employee satisfaction, capability and productivity. The forecasting approaches identified raises forecasting challenges for each of the three generic revenue sources. These challenges vary from the difficulty in obtaining the service user’s viewpoint through to difficulties in determining market acceptance of PSS applications.
