In this work, several random Boolean networks (RBN) are generated and analyzed from two characteristics: their time evolution diagram and their transition diagram. For this purpose, its randomness is estimated using three measures, of which Algorithmic Complexity is capable of both a) revealing transitions towards the chaotic regime in a more marked way, and b) disclosing the algorithmic contribution of certain states to the transition diagram and their relationship with the order they occupy in the temporal evolution of the respective RBN. The results obtained from both types of analysis are useful for the introduction of both Algorithmic Complexity and Perturbation Analysis in the context of Boolean networks, and their potential applications in regulatory network models.

The correspondence principle bridges the quantum and classical worlds by establishing a direct link between their dynamics. This well-accepted tenant of quantum physics has been explored in quantum systems wherein the number of particles is increased to macroscopic scales. However, theoretical investigations of nanoscale structures have revealed discrepancies when attempting to bridge classical and quantum physics. Here, we report on the experimental observation of anomalous classical-to-quantum transitions in open many-body optical systems. We demonstrate, for the first time, the lack of classical-to-quantum correspondence between a macroscopic optical system and its constituent quantum multiphoton subsystems. In contrast to common belief, we demonstrate that the coherence dynamics of many-body quantum subsystems with up to forty particles can indeed be opposite to that exhibited by the hosting macroscopic system. By employing complex-Gaussian statistics, we show that these effects are universal for open many-body systems. Consequently, our work can have important implications for other fields of physics ranging from condensed matter to nuclear physics.

Excitation energy transfer is a photophysical process upon which many chemical and biological phenomena are built. From natural small systems to synthetic multichromophoric macromolecules, energy transfer deals with the process of migration of electronic excitation energy from an excited donor to an acceptor. Although this phenomenon has been extensively studied in the past, the rapid evolution of quantum-enabled technologies has motivated the question on whether nonclassical sources of light, such as entangled photon pairs, may provide us with a better control (or enhancement) of energy transfer at the nanoscale. In this work, we provide a comprehensive study of the joint excitation of two non-interacting two-level atoms by time-frequency correlated photon pairs -- whose central frequencies are not resonant with the individual particles -- generated by means of spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC). We demonstrate that while strong frequency anti-correlation between photons guarantees a large two-photon excitation (TPE) probability, photons bearing a sine cardinal spectral shape exhibit a $\sim$3.8 times larger TPE signal than photons with a Gaussian spectrum. More importantly, we find that suppression of time-ordered excitation pathways does not substantially modify the TPE probability for two-photon states with a Gaussian spectral shape; whereas photons with a sine cardinal spectrum exhibit the strongest TPE signals when two-photon excitation pathways are not suppressed. Our results not only help elucidating the role of time-frequency correlations in resonance energy transfer with SPDC photons, but also provide valuable information regarding the optimal source to be used in its experimental implementation.

In the period between 2009 and 2015, several very high-energy (VHE $> 100$ GeV) gamma-ray flaring events from the BL Lac object PKS 1424+240 were observed by the Cerenkov telescopes VERITAS and MAGIC. It had uncertain redshift ($z$) and using spectroscopical measurement, Paiano et al. (2017) found it to be $z=0.604$. Using four different extragalactic background light (EBL) models and the photohadronic model, nine independently observed VHE gamma-ray spectra of PKS 1424+240 are analyzed and a global $\chi^2$ fit is performed on all observations to estimate the best-fit value for the redshift for each EBL model. Confidence levels (CL) intervals for the redshift are also estimated using all the EBL models. This method is tested by comparing our analysis with the observed value. It is shown that the photohadronic scenario provides an excellent description of all the observed spectra. It is found that the EBL model of Dom\'inguez et al. (2011) is the one that provides the most restrictive limits on the redshift of PKS 1424+240, but in our analysis, $z=0.604$ lies within the $3\sigma$ CL interval of the EBL model of Saldana-Lopez et al. It is thought that schemes for quantum imaging are fragile against realistic environments in which the background noise is often stronger than the nonclassical signal of the imaging photons. Unfortunately, it is unfeasible to produce brighter quantum light sources to alleviate this problem. Here, we overcome this paradigmatic limitation by developing a quantum imaging scheme that relies on the use of natural sources of light. This is achieved by performing conditional detection on the photon number of the thermal light field scattered by a remote object. Specifically, the conditional measurements in our scheme enable us to extract quantum features of the detected thermal photons to produce quantum images with improved signal-to-noise ratios. This technique shows a remarkable exponential enhancement in the contrast of quantum images. Surprisingly, this measurement scheme enables the possibility of producing images from the vacuum fluctuations of the light field. This is experimentally demonstrated through the implementation of a single-pixel camera with photon-number-resolving capabilities. As such, we believe that our scheme opens a new paradigm in the field of quantum imaging. It also unveils the potential of combining natural light sources with nonclassical detection schemes for the development of robust quantum technologies.

The identification of nonclassical features of multiphoton quantum states represents a task of the utmost importance in the development of many quantum photonic technologies. Under realistic experimental conditions, a photonic quantum state gets affected by its interaction with several nonideal opto-electronic devices, including those used to guide, detect or characterize it. The result of such noisy interaction is that the nonclassical features of the original quantum state get considerably reduced or are completely absent in the detected, final state. In this work, the self-learning features of artificial neural networks are exploited to experimentally show that the nonclassicality of multiphoton quantum states can be assessed and fully characterized, even in the cases in which the nonclassical features are concealed by the measuring devices. The modification of the quantum properties of coherence of photons through their interaction with matter lies at the heart of the quantum theory of light. Indeed, the absorption and emission of photons by atoms can lead to different kinds of light with characteristic quantum statistical properties. As such, different types of light are typically associated with distinct sources. Here, we report on the observation of the modification of quantum coherence of multiphoton systems in free space. This surprising effect is produced by the scattering of thermal multiphoton wavepackets upon propagation. The modification of the excitation mode of a photonic system and its associated quantum fluctuations result in the formation of different light fields with distinct quantum coherence properties. Remarkably, we show that these processes of scattering can lead to multiphoton systems with sub-shot-noise quantum properties. Our observations are validated through the nonclassical formulation of the emblematic van Cittert-Zernike theorem. We believe that the possibility of producing quantum systems with modified properties of coherence, through linear propagation, can have dramatic implications for diverse quantum technologies.

Structural and tectonic features in the Pacific Coast of Mexico generate a high level of seismic activity in the Jalisco block (JB) region, making it one of the most attractive areas of the world for geophysical investigations. The Rivera North America contact zone has been the object of different tectonic studies in recent years framed within the TsuJal project. To this day, this project is generating numerous crucial geophysical results, which significantly improve our understanding of the region. Our study is focused on the interaction between the south of the JB and Rivera plate (RP), which crosses the Middle America trench. We also cover an offshore onshore transect of 130 km length between the eastern Rivera fracture zone and La Huerta region, in the Jalisco state. To characterize this region,we interpreted wide angle seismic, multichannel seismic, and multibeam bathymetry data. The integration of these results, with the local and regional seismicity recorded by the Jalisco Seismic Accelerometric Telemetric Network and by the Mapping the Rivera Subduction Zone experiment, provides new insights into the geometry of the southern RP, which is dipping 12 14 degrees under the JB in the northeast southwest direction. Within the field of Humanities, there is a recognized need for educational innovation, as there are currently no reported tools available that enable individuals to interact with their environment to create an enhanced learning experience in the humanities (e.g., immersive spaces). This project proposes a solution to address this gap by integrating technology and promoting the development of teaching methodologies in the humanities, specifically by incorporating emotional monitoring during the learning process of humanistic context inside an immersive space. In order to achieve this goal, a real-time emotion detection EEG-based system was developed to interpret and classify specific emotions. These emotions aligned with the early proposal by Descartes (Passions), including admiration, love, hate, desire, joy, and sadness. This system aims to integrate emotional data into the Neurohumanities Lab interactive platform, creating a comprehensive and immersive learning environment. This work developed a ML, real-time emotion detection model that provided Valence, Arousal, and Dominance (VAD) estimations every 5 seconds. Using PCA, PSD, RF, and Extra-Trees, the best 8 channels and their respective best band powers were extracted; furthermore, multiple models were evaluated using shift-based data division and cross-validations. After assessing their performance, Extra-Trees achieved a general accuracy of 96%, higher than the reported in the literature (88% accuracy). The proposed model provided real-time predictions of VAD variables and was adapted to classify Descartes' six main passions. However, with the VAD values obtained, more than 15 emotions can be classified (reported in the VAD emotion mapping) and extend the range of this application., Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures. This work presents an unsupervised method for automatically constructing and expanding topic taxonomies using instruction-based fine-tuned LLMs (Large Language Models). We apply topic modeling and keyword extraction techniques to create initial topic taxonomies and LLMs to post-process the resulting terms and create a hierarchy. To expand an existing taxonomy with new terms, we use zero-shot prompting to find out where to add new nodes, which, to our knowledge, is the first work to present such an approach to taxonomy tasks. We use the resulting taxonomies to assign tags that characterize merchants from a retail bank dataset. To evaluate our work, we asked 12 volunteers to answer a two-part form in which we first assessed the quality of the taxonomies created and then the tags assigned to merchants based on that taxonomy. The evaluation revealed a coherence rate exceeding 90% for the chosen taxonomies. The taxonomies' expansion with LLMs also showed exciting results for parent node prediction, with an f1-score above 70% in our taxonomies.

Entanglement is a quintessential quantum mechanical phenomenon with no classical equivalent. First discussed by Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen and formally introduced by Schr\"odinger in 1935, entanglement has grown from a scientific debate to a radically new resource that sparks a technological revolution. This review focuses on the fundamentals and recent advances in entanglement-based quantum information technology (QIT), specifically in photonic systems. Photons are unique quantum information carriers with several advantages, such as their ability to operate at room temperature, their compatibility with existing communication and sensing infrastructures, and the availability of readily accessible optical components. Photons also interface well with other solid-state quantum platforms. We will first provide an overview on entanglement, starting with an introduction to its development from a historical perspective followed by the theory for entanglement generation and the associated representative experiments. We will then dive into the applications of entanglement-based QIT for sensing, imaging, spectroscopy, data processing, and communication. Structured light beams, in particular those carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM), have gained a lot of attention due to their potential for enlarging the transmission capabilities of communication systems. However, the use of OAM-carrying light in communications faces two major problems, namely distortions introduced during propagation in disordered media, such as the atmosphere or optical fibers, and the large divergence that high-order OAM modes experience. While the use of non-orthogonal modes may offer a way to circumvent the divergence of high-order OAM fields, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms have shown promise for solving the mode-distortion issue. Unfortunately, current AI-based algorithms make use of large-amount data-handling protocols that generally lead to large processing time and high power consumption. Here we show that a low-power, low-cost image sensor can itself act as an artificial neural network that simultaneously detects and reconstructs distorted OAM-carrying beams. We demonstrate the capabilities of our device by reconstructing (with a 95$\%$ efficiency) individual Vortex, Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) and Bessel modes, as well as hybrid (non-orthogonal) coherent superpositions of such modes. Our work provides a potentially useful basis for the development of low-power-consumption, light-based communication devices.

One of the most challenging open questions in physics today is discovering the nature of dark matter. In this work we study the imaging formation in dark matter (DM) halos due to an external light source using some DM profiles for comparison with astronomical observations. Approaching these models on a small scale, we analyze the images generated on the lens plane by obtaining the analytical scaled surface mass densities $\Sigma_{*}(x)$ and their corresponding deflection angles $\alpha_{*}(x)$, for later applying a method for ray tracing using the gravitational refraction law. The method is able to locate the positions of the images on the lens plane, by mapping fringes that represent possible sources (such as other galaxies), placed on the source plane. The regions where the strong lensing occurs for each profile, are determined by fixing the $\lambda$ parameter that establishes the ray tracing process. It is shown that the presence of Einstein rings generated by each profile is directly related with the central branch of the caustic. This method gives us a possible alternative way to distinguish between different DM candidates by observing imaging from external sources., Comment: 14 pages, 26 figures

We experimentally study the infinite-size limit of the Dicke model of quantum optics with a parity-breaking deformation strength that couples the system to an external bosonic reservoir. We focus on the dynamical consequences of such symmetry-breaking, which makes the classical phase space asymmetric with non-equivalent energy wells. We present an experimental implementation of the classical version of the deformed Dicke model using a state-of-the-art bi-parametric electronic platform. Our platform constitutes a playground for studying representative phenomena of the deformed Dicke model in electrical circuits with the possibility of externally controlling parameters and initial conditions. In particular, we investigate the dynamics of the ground state, various phase transitions, and the asymmetry of the energy wells as a function of the coupling strength $\gamma$ and the deformation strength $\alpha$ in the resonant case. Additionally, to characterize the various behavior regimes, we present a two-dimensional phase diagram as a function of the two intrinsic system parameters. The onset of chaos is also analyzed experimentally. Our findings provide a clear connection between theoretical predictions and experimental observations, demonstrating the usefulness of our bi-parametric electronic setup.

Exceptional points (EPs) are degeneracies of non-Hermitian systems, where both eigenvalues and eigenvectors coalesce. Classical and quantum systems exhibiting high-order EPs have recently been identified as fundamental building blocks for the development of novel, ultra-sensitive opto-electronic devices. However, arguably one of their major drawbacks is that they rely on non-linear amplification processes that could limit their potential applications, particularly in the quantum realm. In this work, we show that high-order EPs can be designed by means of linear, time-modulated, chain of inductively coupled RLC (where R stands for resistance, L for inductance, and C for capacitance) electronic circuits. With a general theory, we show that $N$ coupled circuits with $2N$ dynamical variables and time-dependent parameters can be mapped onto an $N$-site, time-dependent, non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, and obtain constraints for $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry in such models. With numerical calculations, we obtain the Floquet exceptional contours of order $N$ by studying the energy dynamics in the circuit. Our results pave the way toward realizing robust, arbitrary-order EPs by means of synthetic gauge fields, with important implications for sensing, energy transfer, and topology.

The nature of light sources is defined by the statistical fluctuations of the electromagnetic field. As such, the photon statistics of light sources are typically associated with distinct emitters. Here, we demonstrate the possibility of producing light beams with various photon statistics through the spatial modulation of coherent light. This is achieved by the sequential encoding of controllable Kolmogorov phase screens in a digital micromirror device. Interestingly, the flexibility of our scheme allows for the arbitrary shaping of spatial light modes with engineered photon statistics at different spatial positions. The performance of our scheme is assessed through the photon-number-resolving characterization of different families of spatial light modes with engineered photon statistics. We believe that the possibility of controlling the photon fluctuations of the light field at arbitrary spatial locations has important implications for quantum spectroscopy, sensing, and imaging., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

We present a property equivalent to the property of being semi-Kelley. Using this equivalence we prove that being semi-Kelley is a hereditary property for atriodic continua. We prove that semi-Kelley remainders are atriodic, moreover, we prove that semi-Kelley continua are semi-Kelley remainders for chainable continua, circularly chainable continua, and arc continua, and we give an example of an atriodic Kelley continuum which is a semi-Kelley remainder and not a Kelley remainder. Recent investigations suggest that the use of non-classical states of light, such as entangled photon pairs, may open new and exciting avenues in experimental two-photon absorption spectroscopy. Despite several experimental studies of entangled two-photon absorption (eTPA), there is still a heated debate on whether eTPA has truly been observed. This interesting debate has arisen, mainly because it has been recently argued that single-photon-loss mechanisms, such as scattering or hot-band absorption may mimic the expected entangled-photon linear absorption behavior. In this work, we focus on transmission measurements of eTPA, and explore three different two-photon quantum interferometers in the context of assessing eTPA. We demonstrate that the so-called N00N-state configuration is the only one amongst those considered insensitive to linear (single-photon) losses. Remarkably, our results show that N00N states may become a potentially powerful tool for quantum spectroscopy, and place them as a strong candidate for the certification of eTPA in an arbitrary sample., Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures.
