In this collaboratively written article, we share what we have learned in our over decade-long partnership working across social and institutional boundaries, including: the right for students to be taught through a strength-based perspective; the necessity of communication between schools and communities; and insights into how educators can foster genuine care with families. We conclude with recommendations about how educators can work in solidarity with families to promote a robust universal vision of student flourishing.

This study analyses the techniques and procedures that were developed and the changes that took place in the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Autonomous University of Puebla (BUAP), both in Mexico, and the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), in the United States of America. To face the crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, librarians in these institutions improved their Information Literacy (IL) and Media Information Literacy (MIL) programmes. Design/methodology/approach: This study has a mixed methodology with a comparative analysis. For this purpose, data shows the universities' contexts: the communities of students, teachers, researchers, and librarians, and the e-learning strategies of IL and MIL programmes. Findings: As part of the results of the crowdsourcing collaboration between the UMD, UNAM and BUAP, the study shows the different online learning communities and their innovations. Originality: Although there is theoretical knowledge about IL and MIL in Mexican universities and University of Minnesota Duluth, the e-learning strategies used by their librarians in this document sought to provide technical solutions and other options for a virtual work scheme that responded to the specific problems presented by COVID-19. In this case, the framework for creating online library services was designed by their librarians for their communities in the context of the current crisis, even when online services had already been established for more than ten years. Research limitations/implications: The technological infrastructure, the professionalisation of the library staff and a lack of knowledge of the new virtual teaching-learning needs. Practical implications: Analysis of tools for virtual teaching-learning services, description of strategies used by library staff, results and feedback. Social implications: IL and MIL strategies created in a variety of contexts can be enhanced by library collaboration in a fully virtual setting. Libraries with better technological infrastructure play a decisive role.

The segmentally duplicated Pregnancy-specific glycoprotein (PSG) locus on chromosome 19q13 may be one of the most rapidly evolving in the human genome. It comprises ten coding genes (PSG1-9, 11) and one predominantly non-coding gene (PSG10) that are expressed in the placenta and gut, in addition to several poorly characterized long non-coding RNAs. We report that long non-coding RNA PSG8-AS1 has an oligodendrocyte-specific expression pattern and is co-expressed with genes encoding key myelin constituents. PSG8-AS1 exhibits two peaks of expression during human brain development coinciding with the most active periods of oligodendrogenesis and myelination. PSG8-AS1 orthologs were found in the genomes of several primates but significant expression was found only in the human, suggesting a recent evolutionary origin of its proposed role in myelination. Additionally, because co-deletion of chromosomes 1p/19q is a genomic marker of oligodendroglioma, expression of PSG8-AS1 was examined in these tumors. PSG8-AS1 may be a promising diagnostic biomarker for glioma, with prognostic value in oligodendroglioma.

Abstract The genomic characteristics of Peruvian patients with gastric adenocarcinoma from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds were examined in consideration of the possibility that patients from different socioeconomic backgrounds may be exposed to different risk factors. We conducted a prospective pilot study in two Peruvian cities (Lima and Ica). This study enrolled 15 patients from low socioeconomic status (LSES) and 15 patients from medium/high socioeconomic status (MHSES). The genomic profiling of gastric adenocarcinoma samples was done through the FoundationOne CDx platform. We compared the genomic characteristics and the need for targeted therapy and immunotherapy between LSES and MHSES. The genes with higher rates of alterations were TP53 (73.3% vs. 50.0%, P = 0.2635); CDH1 (26.7% vs. 28.6%, P = 1); CDKN2A (20.0% vs. 28.6%, P = 1); KRAS (33.3% vs. 7.1%, P = 0.1686); ARID1A (20.0% vs. 14.3%, P = 1); MLL2 (13.3% vs. 21.4%, P = 1) and SOX9 (33.3% vs. 0.0%, P = 0.0421) in LSES versus HMSES, respectively. There was no significant difference in tumor mutational burden (P = 0.377) or microsatellite status (P = 1). The LSES group had a higher need for targeted therapy or immunotherapy according to gene involvement and alterations. A significant genomic difference exists among patients with gastric adenocarcinoma of different socioeconomic status, which may result in a different need for targeted therapy and immunotherapy.

Los bancos de germoplasma son sitios dedicados a la preservación del material biológico. Su objetivo final es lograr la conservación de la biodiversidad a corto, mediano o largo plazo, evitando la pérdida de la diversidad genética causada por factores ambientales, físicos, biológicos, o como consecuencia de las actividades humanas. La diversidad genética de especies vegetales de importancia para la agricultura y la alimentación es conservada en el marco de distintas instituciones, entre ellas, se destaca la Red de Recursos Fitogenéticos (Red-RRFF) del INTA (Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria). El objetivo de dicha red es conservar y utilizar especies en forma sustentable para distintas regiones agroecológicas del territorio nacional. El INTA cuenta con un Banco Base ubicado en Castelar (Buenos Aires) y 21 Bancos Activos distribuidos por todo el país. Los Bancos Activos conservan a corto y mediano plazo, colectan y regeneran entradas de germoplasma de diferentes especies. El Banco Base conserva a largo plazo duplicados de las colecciones de semillas de los bancos activos. Las actividades de caracterización y evaluación permiten conocer el grado de diversidad genética existente en las colecciones y aumentar el valor agregado a las mismas, en función del conocimiento sobre su comportamiento ante situaciones de estrés abiótico y/o biótico, calidad nutritiva, evaluaciones sensoriales, entre otras. Actualmente se avanza en herramientas para el ordenamiento y manejo de las colecciones y en la aplicación de un sitio web que facilite el acceso a la información sobre los RRFF disponibles, en la implementación de tratados internacionales ratificados por Argentina, y fundamentalmente, en gestionar el trabajo en común con otras instituciones y comunidades locales en la búsqueda de un Sistema Nacional de Recursos Genéticos.

Germinal matrix-intraventricular hemorrhage (GM-IVH) is one of the most common complications of the preterm newborn. The pathology of the GM-IVH is not completely understood and even regions distant from the lesion area are severely affected. It has been suggested that cerebellar diaschisis may underlie the neurodevelopmental problems that many of these kids show, including cerebral palsy, attention deficit disorders or hyperactivity. Additionally, GM-IVH has no successful treatment. VP3.15 is a dual action phosphodiesterase 7 (PDE7) and glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) inhibitor that limits neuroinflammation and neuronal loss. Therefore, it might also provide a relevant tool to reduce complications associated with GM-IVH. We have used a murine model of GM-IVH to analyze the short and long-term effects of VP3.15 in brain pathology and behavioral complications. In our hands, the induction of unilateral GM-IVH to P7 CD1 mice results in a short-term (P14) compromise of the cerebellar neuronal population and Purkinje cells arborization, an increase of microglia burden in the nuclei and an overall increase of punctuate cerebellar hemorrhages. Whereas brain alterations are no longer observed in the long term (P110), these animals present overt hyperactivity when analyzed in the adulthood, supporting the long-term behavioral impairment. Also, hyperactivity significantly correlates with ipsi and contralateral cerebellar sizes, neuronal densities and myelin basic protein levels. Importantly, treatment with VP3.15 significantly reduces neuronal loss, Purkinje cells simplification, the presence of cerebellar hemorrhages, as well as hyperactivity. Altogether, our data support the neuroprotective effects of VP3.15 in GM-IVH of the PT.

Objetivo: analizar el imaginario social de la comunidad estudiantil universitaria sobre la actividad física. Metodología: con un enfoque fenomenológico se aplicó una entrevista estructurada a 30 estudiantes de una universidad pública de Hermosillo, Sonora. Resultados: el imaginario social de los estudiantes les hace percibir la actividad física como la práctica de algún tipo de ejercicio físico o de deporte dirigido a mejorar su salud integral. Además, dicha actividad, según ellos, debe estar acompañada de una alimentación adecuada para tener salud y bienestar. Valor: la investigación contribuye a entender el influjo que tiene en los estudiantes universitarios el imaginario social en torno a la actividad física. Limitaciones: el tamaño de la muestra no capta en su totalidad la percepción de los estudiantes sobre la actividad física; por lo tanto, no pueden generalizarse los resultados. Conclusiones: el discurso sobre la actividad física que los estudiantes universitarios han aprendido socialmente no coincide con la realidad de la acción, aunque conocen los beneficios que esta proporciona a su cuerpo y a su bienestar general. Por tal razón resulta pertinente recomendar a dichos estudiantes la actividad física mediante programas de intervención.

O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar as condições de habitabilidade e qualidade de vida da população dos 32 estados do México, com o objetivo de explicar sua satisfação com a vida em geral. Trata-se de uma investigação transversal, com abordagem quantitativa e desenho descritivo-correlacional baseado em informações obtidas no CPV 2020 do INEGI e as dimensões analisadas foram qualidade de vida, infraestrutura e equipamentos urbanos. Conclui-se que 63% da satisfação com a vida em geral da população dos 32 entes federativos se deve principalmente, no sentido positivo, à existência de calçadas em todas as vias e, no sentido negativo, à proporção da população que sofre tempestades. drenagem em todas as estradas e a variável percentual de população com deficiência.

Alterations in dopaminergic transmission are associated with neurological disorders, such as depression, autism, and Parkinson's disease. Exposure of rats to ambient fine (FP) or ultrafine (UFP) particles induces oxidative and inflammatory responses in the striatum, a neuronal nucleus with dense dopaminergic innervation and critically involved in the control of motor activity.Objectives: We used an ex vivo system to evaluate the effect of in vivo inhalation exposure to FP and UFP on motor activity and dopaminergic transmission.Materials and Methods: Male adult Wistar rats were exposed to FP, UFP, or filtered air for 8 weeks (subchronic exposure; 5 h/day, 5 days/week) in a particle concentrator. Motor activity was evaluated using the open-field test. Uptake and release of [3H]-dopamine were assessed in striatal synaptosomes, and dopamine D2 receptor (D2R) affinity for dopamine was evaluated by the displacement of [3H]-spiperone binding to striatal membranes.Results: Exposure to FP or UFP significantly reduced spontaneous motor activity (ambulatory distance: FP -25%, UFP -32%; ambulatory time: FP -24%, UFP -22%; ambulatory episodes: FP -22%, UFP -30%), decreased [3H]-dopamine uptake (FP -18%, UFP -24%), and increased, although not significantly, [3H]-dopamine release (113.3 ± 16.3 and 138.6 ± 17.3%). Neither FP nor UFP exposure affected D2R density or affinity for dopamine.Conclusions: These results indicate that exposure to ambient particulate matter reduces locomotion in rats, which could be related to altered striatal dopaminergic transmission: UFP was more potent than FP. Abstract Aim Characterize cyanobacterial accumulations detected for the first time from November 2020 to February 2022 along the coastal zone of the Paraná River and in the Zaimán and Mártires streams in Posadas (Misiones, Argentina), by identifying the dominant species, determining their potential toxicity, and monitoring their progression using satellite images. Methods This work analyzes the presence of cyanobacteria by optical microscopy, the production of microcystin (MCY) by molecular and analytical methods, and the detection of these cyanobacterial accumulations by satellite image analysis. Results Optical microscopy analysis revealed the presence of Microcystis spp. colonies in all collected samples and Dolichospermum sp. in the Mártires stream. Using PCR amplification of a conserved region of the mcyE gene we confirmed the presence of MCY-encoding genes in all samples and MCY in the Zaimán stream using UPLC MS/MS analysis. Complementary satellite image analysis showed blooms in the Zaimán and Mártires streams were detectable during all the sampling periods. The presence of Microcystis spp., and MCY could affect the population, as well as the flora and fauna in the streams and the ecosystems along the Paraná River basin. Conclusions In this study, we successfully characterized cyanobacterial accumulations along the Paraná River coast and in the Zaimán and Mártires streams, revealing the presence of Microcystis spp. colonies and MCY-encoding genes, with potential implications for local populations and ecosystems.

Introduction: Borreria spinosa is a herbaceous plant considered a weed in agricultural crops, although it also has potential in apiculture. Despite its agronomic importance, its cytogenetic and palynological traits are poorly known. Objective: To do the cytogenetic characterization of B. spinosa, describe the morphology of its pollen grains, and estimate their potential viability. Methods: We collected plant material in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, in May 2017 and used classical methods (8-hydroxyquinoline and Farmer for mitosis and meiosis; viability with Müntzing; pollen morphology with nonacetolysed and acetolysed techniques, and SEM). Results: B. spinosa has a chromosome number of 2n = 56, with a karyotype of 46 m + 10 sm. Meiotic abnormalities mainly include chromosomes outside the equatorial plate, lagging chromosomes, and cytomixis. Pollen grains are small to medium-sized, suboblate to oblate-spheroidal, with a viability of 70%. This is a tetraploid species, most chromosomes are metacentric or submetacentric; and it has irregular meiotic behavior and cytomixis, with concomitant low viability in pollen grains. Conclusion: In B. spinose, pollen grains have similar characteristics to other species of the genus Borreria.

Fundamento: Uno de los temas más polémicos en la actualidad es la gestión de riesgos a nivel organizacional, donde las instituciones se enfrentan a factores e influencias internas y externas, que conducen a la no consecución de objetivos para lo cual fueron creadas. Objetivo: Proponer un plan de acción para la gestión de riesgos en el laboratorio médico del Banco Provincial de Sangre de Camagüey según NC ISO 31000:2018. Metodología: Investigación en sistema y servicios en salud con aplicación de un instrumento evaluativo del cumplimiento de requisitos de la norma NC ISO 31000:2018 y concepción de un plan de acción, con validación de contenido por consulta a especialistas mediante Delphi. Resultados: Bajo nivel (35.1 % y 33.6 %) y evaluación mala del cumplimiento de requisitos del Sistema de gestión de riesgos; los principales elementos, política, objetivos, procesos y procedimientos, del sistema documental a desarrollar en el plan de acción validado según su pertinencia, rigor científico, nivel de actualidad y correspondencia con los objetivos. Conclusiones: Se establecieron elementos metodológicos para contribuir a un adecuado desempeño organizacional de riesgos, según cumplimiento de requisitos de la norma, que permitió compromiso de trabajadores, cultura general y apreciación de riesgos, a partir del plan propuesto.

Professional growth of STEM teacher educators remains an underdeveloped topic in educational research. In the current study, STEM teacher educators representing six countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and USA completed a survey, which addressed teacher educators' professional trajectories, practices, and challenges they face to meet tenure requirements. This study utilized convergent mixed methods design applying survey research format and as such integrated both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. Descriptive statistics and meaning coding of the survey and interviews allowed identification of emerging themes in professional practices. The main findings suggest that there are common trends as well as country specific professional practices across professional trajectories reported by participants. The study results reveal that the lack of support during the teacher-to-teacher educator transition period was a common feature across the countries. It was also evident among participants that their professional journey begins with an assumption that as teacher educators they should primarily excel in performing teaching tasks.
