The article analyzes professional collaboration in a lesson study involving university mathematics professors, with the objective of contributing to professional development. The research was guided by the question, What principles promoted professional collaboration among university mathematics professors participating in a lesson study? The research focused on a lesson study involving university professors of mathematics and mathematics education over twelve weekly meetings of two hours each. The empirical material included the researchers' field notes and the transcripts of the recordings of the lesson study sessions. A qualitative analysis, based on content analysis, revealed that collaboration involved: "professional sharing" and "decision-making." The research shows that by fostering collaboration the lesson study mobilized different principles of teaching professionalism, such as knowledge that is basic to teaching, values and ways of conducting university teaching, a social and moral commitment to teaching, and teaching autonomy, contributing to the professional development of higher education professors.

The general purpose of this research is to test the applicability of the career construction model with the structural equation model in explaining the relationships between adaptive readiness (personality traits and hope), adaptability resources (career adaptability) and adapting responses (career decision-making self-efficacy). This research was carried out with the participation of 296 emerging adulthood [Ageranj = 19-26, AgeMean =21.46, AgeSd = 1.29] in different departments of the education faculty of a public university in Turkey. Data was gathered through the Dispositional Hope Scale, The Big Five Inventory, Career Adaptabilities Scale and Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale. A two-stage structural equation model based on the maximum likelihood estimation was used in data analysis. The mediation test in this research was interpreted according to the stages of Baron and Kenny. The structural equation model tested in the research findings was confirmed.

The main purpose of this study is to examine the effect of promotional activities applied in e-commerce on the consumer behavior of individuals living and shopping in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The study was conducted using quantitative research method based on Söker's (2022) scale form. The population of the study consists of all individuals residing and shopping in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, while the sample consists of 336 consumers. The reliability of the collected data was evaluated in the analyzes carried out using SPSS 28.00 program. According to the results of the research, there is a general perception among the respondents that promotional sales strategies are effective on consumers. In particular, promotions such as second item free have the potential to influence respondents' purchasing decisions. The distribution of discount coupons and the use of fair/exhibition booths on digital platforms are other types of promotions that are viewed positively. However, some respondents expressed reservations towards certain promotional strategies. For example, 15.2% had a negative attitude towards discount coupons, while 33.3% believed that promotional products are generally not preferred. These results suggest that the impact of promotional strategies is not the same for everyone and that businesses need to understand their target audience well. In conclusion, promotional selling strategies are generally perceived positively, but some consumers have reservations about such strategies. These findings emphasize the need for businesses to carefully plan their promotional strategies and understand their target audiences.

This study aims to examine the self- confidence and self-efficacy levels of soccer referees. It was conducted with relational using survey model quantitative research method. The sample of the study consisted of 100 people working as football referees in Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia, Güzelyurt and Iskele districts in TRNC. As data collection tools, a form containing personal information of the participants, the Self-Confidence Scale developed by Akin (2007) and the Referee Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Myers, Feltz, Gullien, and Dithurbide (2012) and the Turkish validity oath reliability study conducted by Karaçam and Pulur (2017) were used. According to the data obtained, it is seen that soccer referees generally have a high level of self-confidence and self-efficacy. Of particular, it is noteworthy that the average values of general self-confidence and general self-efficacy are quite high. However, there are lower means values in some areas in the subscales, indicating that there is potential for improvement in certain areas. Moreover, a positive oath significant relationship was found between self-efficacy levels of soccer referees oath internal self-confidence. Similar to a positive oath significant relationship was found between external self-confidence and self-efficacy levels (Sertel, Gökbörü & Yinal, 2023). Similar results were obtained by examining self-efficacy in general, and positive oath significant relationships were found between physical self-efficacy, game knowledge, decision making, pressure oath communication and self-efficacy. However, the relationship between external self-confidence and self-efficacy was not statistically significant the effect of general self-confidence on self-efficacy levels are statistically uncertain As a result, it is seen that external self-confidence does not have a significant role in explaining self-efficacy levels, but the The effect of general self-confidence is uncertain. Others variables may need to be taken into consideration to further explain this model.

The impact of Muslim parents on their daughters' sports and games in inclusion varies, spanning from progressive endorsement due to the physical and social advantages to reservations grounded in traditions and religious convictions. This has culminated in limited Muslim female inclusion in sporting events. This study explored the inclusion of female Muslim students in sports and games in Islamic schools using a qualitative research approach with 20 participants, which include 10 teachers and 10 parents. Concerning parents' and Islamic teachers' perceptions of Muslim females' inclusion in sports and games, three core thematic areas were revealed: positive influence on character development, school for Important Skills, and secret Code for Success, which favourably influences the diverse development of Muslim girls. Numerous considerations at individual levels of the Social Ecological Model (SEM) influence parental decisions about Muslim female sports inclusion. Individually, parental choices are induced by weighty factors, including religious convictions (prayer periods), cultural principles, and modesty concerns. The study further unearths how teachers shape the sports climate at the organisational level. The organisation's endeavours to provide inclusive and supportive settings for Muslim female girls are shown in the adaptation of activities, deliberate education and awareness promotion, partnership promotion and incorporation of scientific notions into sporting events. As sports are seen as important educational instruments for fostering the development of Muslim female students, they must be integrated into the curriculum. Stakeholders in the education sector must collaborate to guarantee Muslim female students receive a fair opportunity to excel in sports and games while respecting their cultural and religious beliefs utilising these synchronised initiatives.

Community and campus partners can benefit from place-based community engagement to enact a commitment to racial equity and community-driven decision-making. Racial equity is paramount in place-based community engagement. However, very little attention has been given to how whiteness in the ideological foundations of higher education shapes the work lives of professionals, faculty, and the collaborations they form to address community issues. Thus, the purpose of this case study is to foreground some paradoxes of whiteness-at-work (Yoon, 2012) in an informal place-based community engagement collaboration between the Center for Public Life at Oklahoma State University-Tulsa and members of the historic Greenwood community in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We take a reflexive stance (Ozias & Pasque, 2019), examining our own experience to explore how Yoon's (2012) concept of whiteness-at-work serves as a tool for advancing the racial equity agenda of place-based community engagement. We conclude that whiteness-at-work provides a useful lens through which to begin explicitly surfacing ways in which place-based community engagement can reify and perpetuate white hegemony. This approach also provides a starting point for racial "justice-in-the-doing," the internal, interpersonal, and institutional work to disrupt hegemonic whiteness" (Yoon, 2022), in place-based community engagement that may move us further toward garnering the racial equity to which we aspire.

In the study reported on here we explored the influence of life-design counselling intervention on high school learners with career indecision who hail from resource-poor contexts in rural South Africa. Purposeful sampling was used to select 17 participants from a resource-constrained area. A mixed-methods group-based intervention embedded in social constructionism was used to address the research questions. The qualitative outcomes for the 17 participants who constituted the intervention group are reported in this article. Data were generated using life-design-based intervention strategies and qualitative (postmodern) techniques. The intervention enhanced the facets of career adaptability of participants and improved their ability to make career decisions. The results show that participants benefited in planning their future and preparing to leave school. The value of the intervention described in this article can be confirmed in longitudinal research with larger samples of diverse participants and contexts as well as different design and assessment measures.

In this practice-based pedagogical paper, we, the university faculty of Education, Food and Nutrition, Sociology, and History in the U.S., describe how we started a Reflective Practice Teaching Circle at our institution for interdisciplinary dialogue about the effective use of social media (SM) for teaching and learning. Our discussions led to the design of the Social Media Entry Model that educators can use for decision-making. We begin this paper with a brief synthesis of scholarly literature describing students' SM use and how higher education faculty use SM to support 21st-century skills development. Next, we describe the institutional, individual, and pedagogical barriers that prevent faculty from embracing SM as a teaching and learning tool. Based on our shared vision and praxis, we present the Social Media Entry Model and describe how educators can use it when deciding how to integrate SM into the formal or informal curriculum. Through our narratives, we illustrate how we use a variety of SM platforms and different entry points in the model to enhance students' 21st-century skills. We also discuss the legal and ethical issues that educators must consider to ensure that university students use SM in a socially responsible manner.

Facilitating Computer Science Unplugged (CS-unplugged) activities with reflective thinking activities lead students to in-depth reviews of their decisions and think of ways to solve the CS-unplugged problems. This study aims to evaluate the instruction enriched with reflective thinking activities to develop computational thinking skills. The study was carried out as a case study in a Computer Science course. The participants were 24, 5th-grade secondary school students. Students used two-column reflection notes and daily diaries to reflect their thoughts. Data were collected through Computational thinking skills evaluation form (CTEF), interviews, and observations to examine the role of reflective thinking activities during the instruction. Descriptive analysis, the thematic analysis was carried out through interviews was used to analyze data. The use of the two-column reflection notes and diaries positively contributed to the development of students' computational thinking skills. The students who engaged in reflective thinking activities outperformed in exhibiting their computational thinking skills than those who did not engage in. We hope that the findings of this study will assist in the future design and implementation of CS-unplugged activities to improve CT skills.

This paper presents a midterm review of a 4-year factor analysis project aimed at validating an outcome-based assessment of study-abroad programs attended by Japanese students. This paper outlines how the results from the initial two years captured changes in perceptions and reasons for studying abroad. It found that students have become increasingly focused on how the experience will impact their future careers. This is a shift from those who studied abroad before the COVID-19 pandemic. Those students motivations for studying abroad were primarily internal and experiential, such as wanting to improve their language skills and experience life in another country, or external and passive reasons arising from the circumstances or opinions of family or friends. The research also indicates how awareness of this shift could assist administrators in designing and conducting successful international experiences.

Background: The concept of 'learner voice' has received global attention in recent years, frequently credited to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). The UNCRC recognises that children have (1) the right to express a view and (2) the right to have the view given due weight. However, in many countries, including South Africa, despite legislation that recognises child rights, there is a relative absence of learner voice and participation in school-level decision-making. Setting: The setting of this continuing professional development (CPD) initiative is GADRA Education, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), in Makhanda Eastern Cape. Method: A consultative participation approach was adopted with Grades 2-4 learners, under the auspices of GADRA Education. Eight child participation consultations were held, followed by a further eight feedback sessions 5 months later. All were audio-recorded. Results: The results of the CPD initiative suggest that the model provides a useful framework for increasing child participation in primary schools. However, further deliberation is necessary 'with' learners around choices related to space, audience, and the alternative 'hat' of the facilitating teacher. Conclusion: Building on our learning, we aim to develop these ideas further through a more sustained research project, involving not only consultative participation but also collaborative participation and child-led participation. Contribution: Insight into the extent to which the Lundy model of child participation (Lundy 2007) can be used as a framework to guide researchers and practitioners in assisting primary school learners to develop their voice and exert influence in matters concerning them.

School leaders must make decisions and implement strategies to improve a school climate and student achievement, and it benefits them to understand which areas of school climate have the greatest impact on student achievement. The State of Georgia measures school climate and student achievement with its school accountability measure, the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI). This study employed a quantitative research design using archival data that was publicly available from CCRPI data for a two year span to examine the relationship between school climate and student achievement statewide in the middle grade sector. Findings revealed that all four components of school climate (i.e., Survey Score, Discipline Score, Safe & Substance-Free Learning Environment Score, and Attendance Score) were significantly related to student achievement. Additionally, the Survey Score and Discipline Score were the most significant predictors of student achievement. These findings provide school leaders with essential information to strategically make decisions involving processes and procedures that impact these areas. Future research is needed to determine whether the relationship between school climate and student achievement is similar for elementary, middle, or high schools. In addition, separating the data into rural, suburban, and urban schools and running similar analyses may also help administrators improve school climate and student achievement.

Post-secondary institutions are required to complete a variety of quality assurance activities including external program review, a process of inviting external reviewers from outside the institution to provide constructive feedback on all aspects of an academic program. While external program reviews have been completed for decades, there has been little work to ensure that meaningful change occurs as a result. Assessment of outcomes at the department level are limited and research specifically considering external academic program review as a primary quality assurance activity is scant. Each of these limitations is even more significant when considered at the institutional level. From our experience, there is minimal consideration in research or practice to ensure that external review recommendations have an impact on educational planning at the institutional level. To help address this concern, in this paper we describe an approach involving secondary research and thematic document analysis that can be leveraged to enhance institutional decision-making processes by uncovering institutional themes evident across external reviews. We suggest that our approach may be helpful for other higher education institutions striving to make sense of program review recommendations from an institutional perspective.

Students are required to master effective sentences to support their writing skills. However, students often struggle with comprehending and constructing effective sentences due to their limited proficiency and competence. This research examines the comprehension of effective sentences through grammaticality judgment tests and its implications for writing instruction. This research employs mixed methods. Two hundred three first-semester students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang were selected for research using purposive sampling. Data was collected using grammaticality judgment tests and semi-structured interviews. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively using the Mann-Whitney U Test and qualitatively to describe patterns of findings. The results showed that 57% of students comprehended quite well, and 25% comprehended. Learners' comprehension of effective sentences is predominantly concerned with language efficiency rather than grammatical structure and lack of explicit linguistic knowledge. Effective sentences, especially parallelism, clarity, and explicit linguistic knowledge, are partially understood. The Mann-Whitney U Test shows that first- and second-language students comprehend effective sentences identically. Furthermore, male and female learners are dissimilar in their ability to comprehend effective sentences. Writing learning can emphasise mastery of effective sentences, explicit language knowledge, and collaborative writing based on language acquisition order and student gender. These findings can be applied to writing instruction by improving students' mastery of effective sentences in collaborative writing.

In this study, the authors sought to explore superintendents' understandings of the various influences on how their districts implemented a 100% virtual learning experience for students for the 2020-2021 academic year. Understanding these influences allowed the authors to develop a framework for leading redesigns of learning systems in long-term crisis situations. In this qualitative study we conducted semi-structured interviews with fifteen superintendents in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Findings showed that districts sought to plan equitable virtual learning experiences for all students based on unintentional influences and the district's intentional responses. We found that during an educational crisis, learning plans emerged as a result of the feedback between unintentional influences (politics, availability of resources, and needs of stakeholders) and district leaders' intentional responses (leveraging relationships, communicating purposefully, and reinforcing the educational mission).

This research examines the factors that influence students' choices to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degrees in the United Arab Emirates. Our study investigates the impact of psychosocial variables, including math anxiety, educational stress, and family expectations, on the decision of 558 children to pursue STEM education. We have discovered that there is a positive correlation between greater levels of school stress and parental expectations and the possibility of enrolling in STEM fields. Moreover, gender appears as a notable indicator, as males have a greater propensity towards STEM. The study emphasises the necessity of implementing comprehensive treatments to tackle math anxiety, educate parents about STEM jobs, and offer efficient stress management assistance for pupils. The implications have a wide reach, including politicians, educators, and parents that aim to foster a varied and driven community of STEM students in the UAE. Additional investigation is advised to explore the complex interactions of psychological elements that influence educational decisions.

To this day, there are only a few studies that have used a controlled instructional intervention on specific linguistic structures to investigate if language instruction is beneficial for heritage learners (HLs), in the same way it is for second (L2) language learners, and more research in this area is rapidly needed (Bowles, 2018). The results from this small body of research suggest that explicit language instruction can be beneficial for HLs, but overall L2 learners still appear to benefit from language instruction more than their HLs counterparts (Potowski et al., 2009; Torres, 2018, inter alia). The present study seeks to contribute to this growing body of research and further examines if the type of task employed to measure learning gains plays a role in the uneven outcomes heritage and L2 learners evidence after receiving language instruction.

The adoption of learning analytics (LA) in higher education institutions (HEIs) in Mexico is still at an early stage despite increasing global interest and advances in the field. The use of educational data remains a challenging puzzle for many universities, which strive to provide students, teachers, and institutional administrators with information and insights to better understand their performance. The objective of this study was to identify the perspectives of teachers, students, and administrators about the use of educational data to explore opportunities for the adoption and integration of LA in three different Mexican universities. A qualitative approach was used, adopting instruments and guidelines previously developed in the framework of Learning Analytics for Latin America (LALA) project, adapting them to the Mexican context. Methods included (1) structured interviews with high-level institutional administrators and (2) focus groups with students, teachers, and other educational administrators. Results showed that perceptions are oriented toward improving school performance through data-based feedback, with ethical responsibility. Emergent categories were physical and mental health, development of healthy relationships and well-being, feedback style, and governance in a bureaucratic setting. The specific modern construct of LA still needs to be internalized and disseminated to Mexican universities' educational stakeholders to increase the likelihood of successful adoption.

In a higher education context, students are expected to take charge of their learning by deciding "what" to learn and "how" to learn. While the learning analytics (LA) community has seen increasing research on the "how" to learn part (i.e., researching methods for supporting students in their learning journey), the "what" to learn part is still underinvestigated. We present a case study of curriculum analytics and its application to a dataset of 243 students of the bachelor's program in the broad discipline of health sciences to explore the effects of course choices on students' academic performance. Using curriculum metrics such as grading stringency, course temporal position, and duration, we investigated how course choices differed between high- and low-performing students using both temporal and sequential analysis methods. We found that high-performing students were likely to pick an elective course of low difficulty. It appeared that these students were more strategic in terms of their course choices than their low-performing peers. Generally, low-performing students seemed to have made suboptimal choices when selecting elective courses; e.g., when they picked an elective course of high difficulty, they were less likely to pick a following course of low difficulty. The findings of this study have design implications for researchers, program directors, and coordinators, because they can use the results to (i) update the course sequencing, (ii) guide students about course choices based on their current GPA (such as through course recommendation dashboards), (iii) identify bottleneck courses, and (iv) assist higher education institutions in planning a more balanced course roadmap to help students manage their workload effectively.

Black African students are increasingly choosing the United States as their preferred destination, and many choose to study at predominantly White institutions (PWIs). The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate reasons that may influence their identification and commitment to those PWIs. We interviewed 20 sub-Saharan Africans at two predominantly White Southeastern universities. Findings revealed that construed external image, overall satisfaction with the school, promotion of the institution, and willingness to maintain membership shape the extent to which Black African students are identified and committed to their university of choice. Furthermore, the study also found that prestige does not appear to influence Sub-Saharan African students' identification and commitment to a school in the United States, but race has mixed effects depending on how it gets interpreted by students. These findings suggest implications for research and practice for student affairs professionals to better serve and retain their international populations.

Chinese students studying abroad have been increasing rapidly in the past decades and become a significant financial contribution to receiving countries. Accordingly, understanding their enrollment choice is essential to facilitate college marketing and admission strategies. Though the decision process is believed to be different from domestic students, empirical analysis of Chinese students' enrollment choices is still lacking. This paper fills the void by examining the influential factors of Chinese students' enrollment choice with novel student-level data. We find that in addition to factors domestic students typically consider, such as financial aid and academic quality, Chinese students particularly emphasize college ranking, reputation, and location in their decision process. Furthermore, unlike domestic students who usually prefer colleges with proximity to home, Chinese students' location preference is linked to job prosperity. We also find that the impact of the factors varies for students from different regions of China, which can be attributable to uneven economic development within the country.

The quality of the data and the amount of correct information available is key to informed decision-making. Higher education institutions (HEIs) often employ various decision support systems (DSSs) to make better choices. However, there is a lack of systems to assist with decision-making to promote innovation in teaching and learning. In this study, we evaluate an analytic tool called PROF-XXI that supports strategic decision-making of teaching and learning centres (TLCs) by identifying their competencies in teaching and learning innovation. Through a multiple case study conducted with three Latin American universities and supported by quantitative and qualitative data, we observed how this tool is used and how it facilitates strategic decision-making. Our findings indicate that the tool is accessible, user-friendly, and effective in 1) initiating identification and systematic reflection of institutional competency levels in teaching and learning innovation, 2) enhancing understanding of strengths and weaknesses as well as identifying opportunities for innovation, 3) supporting TLCs with short- and long-term decision-making, and 4) continuously evaluating their strategies, programs, and initiatives. This research can benefit policymakers in higher education who are involved in measuring institutional competencies to improve teaching quality or in making strategic decisions related to teaching and learning innovation.

Mendelian genetics are essential for students seeking to comprehend the complexities of inheritance; although fundamental, these biology concepts are difficult for students to understand. This study examined the effectiveness of task-based learning (TBL) in enhancing the students' conceptual understanding of the Patterns of Mendelian Genetics. A pretest and posttest quasi-experimental research design involved an experimental and a control group. An Intrinsic Motivation Inventory questionnaire was utilized to assess the level of intrinsic motivation for task evaluation for the experimental group. Paired t-test was used to compare the pretest and post-test results. Before the intervention, both groups had a low conceptual understanding of the topic. At the end of the intervention, both groups had significantly increased their performances from pretest to posttest scores. The study revealed that TBL is more effective than Traditional Lecture-Based Instruction (TLI), as seen in their enhanced student performance, implying the effectiveness of the TBL as an innovative instructional approach. Participants from the experimental group expressed enjoyment, competence, and ownership of their task activities, and they did not feel nervous and anxious about doing the tasks. Pearson r-correlation was used to establish a relationship among the variables. Perceived choice, pressure/tension, and student performance in the experimental group have low positive correlations, and perceived choice, interest/enjoyment, and performance have a negligible correlation. This approach is highly commendable for biology instruction. By illuminating the effectiveness of active learning in improving student's conceptual understanding, this study bridges the gap between theoretical-practical gap in genetics via active learning effectiveness.

The impetus of this study is to investigate students' attitudes towards online language learning based on their previous academic experiences and year of study, including the decision to major or minor (i.e., motivation). A total of 975 students completed a survey questionnaire consisting of background information, Likert scale items, and open-ended questions. The quantitative data were analyzed using an exploratory factor analysis and one-way ANOVAs and were complemented with qualitative data based on students' responses. Findings indicate that students generally want consistent access to online learning, and that students with prior online-learning experience or with a desire to take an online course presented a statistically significant more positive perception of online language classes. There were also differences in perception of success in the online classes between those students who intended to major or minor in the language and those who did not. The results further revealed a decline in perception of success in online classes with the higher-level classifications (i.e., year of study). This study provides baseline attitudinal data to be built upon in future research and informs stakeholders of language programs in their curricular decisions.

This study explored the impact of stakeholder engagement on curriculum implementation at Ethiopian Defense University (EDU). It focuses on examining the effects of partnerships, stakeholder motivation, and decisionmaking on curriculum implementation. As a result, a descriptive survey research design with a mixed research approach was employed. A total of 166 respondents (109 students, 51 instructors, and six college commandants) were the participants of the study. Commandants were selected by purposive sampling, and instructors and students were selected randomly. Questionnaires and interviews were tools or sources of data. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (one-way ANOVA and independent samples t-test), whereas the qualitative data were analyzed through verbal description. Findings revealed that instructors value stakeholders' support and commitment, while students appreciate the positive impact on their learning experience. The finding revealed that there is a strong positive correlation between stakeholder engagement and curriculum implementation effectiveness, emphasizing the importance of continuous interaction, feedback collection, and stakeholder knowledge for curriculum alignment. It also emphasizes the need for stakeholder engagement in decision-making processes and partnerships to improve curriculum implementation outcomes. The findings of the study may inspire further research and dialogue on stakeholder engagement in curriculum implementation, encouraging international audiences to explore innovative approaches and best practices that promote meaningful educational experiences for students in the field of pedagogy. The researcher suggested that EDU should prioritize stakeholder motivation, partnerships, and decision-making for effective curriculum implementation. This promotes ownership, engagement, and shared responsibility. Additionally, EDU should prioritize stakeholder engagement, support, understanding, commitment, and feedback to ensure the quality and effectiveness of curriculum implementation.

The ethnomathematics approach is considered effective on students' mathematics learning achievement. Integrating culture and mathematics can provide meaningful mathematics learning so that it makes it easier for students to understand mathematical concepts. However, previous research investigating the effectiveness of applying an ethnomathematics approach to mathematics learning achievement showed ambiguous results. Therefore, this study will test the effectiveness of the ethnomathematics approach to student achievement compared to conventional learning with a meta-analysis approach. This study analyzed 14 effect sizes from 11 primary studies published in national and international journals that met the inclusion criteria. Data collection uses the online database Google Scholar, Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), Directory of Open Access (DOAJ), Springer publishing, AIP Proceedings, IOP Sciences, and Elsevier. The results of the analysis using the random-effect approach obtained a combined effect size of (d=1.35; p<0.05). This value is included in the very large effect category. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the ethnomathematics approach has a significant effect on students' mathematics achievement when compared to conventional learning. The findings of this meta-analysis show the consistency of the publication of research results regarding the effectiveness of using the ethnomathematics approach to student achievement. This research can also be used as a basis for decision making by educators in improving the quality of learning mathematics in the classroom.

This article presents the findings from a yearlong narrative inquiry of teacher enactment of state mandated curricular reform in middle level social studies. Four brief narratives and cross-narrative themes are presented to provide examples of the complexities of teacher decision making and positionality when implementing new reforms. Analysis found teachers engaged in dynamic processes of interpreting, negotiating, and responding when enacting the SS reforms. Further, this enactment manifested in three themes. These found teachers engaging in ethical determinations, grappling with competing expectations, and feeling fatigued resistance. This article provides a nuanced, narrative perspective on teacher enactment of SS curricular reforms, finding teacher perceptions an important, but not all-encompassing element of teacher decision making.

This study aimed to investigate research trends related to socio-scientific issues (SSI). The SSI articles analysed were from highest-rating five science education journals with the highest impact ratings, published between 2011 and 2022, including "Science Education" [SE], "Journal of Research in Science Teaching" [JRST], "Science and Education" [S&E], "International Journal of Science Education" [IJSE], and "Research in Science Education" [RSE]. A total of 87 selected relevant SSI articles were analysed to determine research types, research topics, research sample groups, research sites, and authors with the most citations. According to the research findings, IJSE articles are the most widely published articles compared to other articles of similar journals. It is revealed that the most discussed issues in those articles of IJSE are argumentation and decision-making, followed by the nature of science. Pupils in middle and high schools constitute the largest sample groups. The continent that has been widely selected as research sites is European continent. Meanwhile, the country with the most research sites is the United States. The data collection tool most frequently used in the research is interview. S&E's "Nature of Science," "Scientific Inquiry," and "Socio-Scientific Issues Arising from Genetics: A Pathway to Developing a Scientifically Literate Citizenry" articles are the most cited articles. Challenges such as addressing efficacy, emotion, and attitude remain noticeably unexplored in SSI studies. Furthermore, exploratory studies on SSI for early childhood education.

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of students' self-determination perceptions on their career decision-making self-efficacy in the distance education process. Qualitative research design was used in the study. As a data source, undergraduate and graduate students studying in the Biology department of Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University Faculty of Science and Letters in the 2022-2023 academic year, who have the opportunity to make many career decisions in addition to the teaching profession, were contacted one by one and asked survey questions and asked to note their answers. When determining teacher candidates, students who had taken a career planning course during their education or were informed about the course content were selected. According to the answers of 16 participants (13 senior undergraduates and 3 graduate students) who returned during the distance education process, when their views on self-determination skills are examined, 87.5% of the participants think that they can choose what they want when choosing "medium level" and above. According to the opinions of the participants regarding the profession/sector in which they want to work, taking into account self-determination, the categories with the highest and equal frequency values in addition to teaching are University/Academician, Researcher, and Biology. It has been determined that limiting emotions are anxiety and indecision. Students' career plans over time in their working life are to become researchers /academics/scientists. Apart from these, it has been revealed that personal development and professional development are the most desired ones. Initiatives that increase the self-determination skills of teacher candidates may further help their self-efficacy. Self-determination and career decision-making self-efficacy as desired qualities in the teacher education process.

This study explored relationships between hope, self-efficacy, and professional identity among a group of undergraduate engineering students at a western institution of higher education in the United States (US) over the span of an academic semester. We conducted a mixed-methods study with undergraduate engineering students to measure aspects of hope, and self-efficacy. Furthermore, we investigated how they perceived their own professional identity in terms of what it means to be an engineer and engage in the profession. Participants reported high levels of hope at mid- and end-of-semester. Those pursuing degrees requiring professional licensure reported higher levels of willpower compared to students pursuing non-licensure degrees. Students experienced increased self-efficacy towards engineering skills and processes over time. Participants' perceptions of engineering professional identity remained consistent over the semester. Their sense of engineering work and goal orientation fell primarily into one of three archetypes: Pragmatic, Creative, and Altruistic.

Teacher identity guides classroom choices and responses to proposed change, yet identity work and reflection are frequently overlooked components of professional development. Based in dialogic self theory, this qualitative study used narrative case study to examine teachers' perceptions of interactions between their identities, choices, and responses to change. This study determined that while teachers are aware of how their identities guide their choices, they often do not acknowledge divergences between their identities and choices and do not see responses to change as connected to their identities. Further research into specific elements of teacher identity and teacher reflection is recommended.
