In this work, we discuss how analytics is evolving in industry and academia. To assess industry needs, we conducted a text-mining study of online job postings for analytics-related positions. We also conducted a survey of academic programs in analytics-related master's programs to ascertain topic coverage relative to industry needs. Based on these two studies, we discuss gaps that we believe need to be addressed. While industry moves along the analytics maturity spectrum from descriptive to predictive to prescriptive optimization-based analytics, analytics master's programs are focusing less on optimization and more heavily on predictive analytics, thus creating the future potential for a gap in the analytics training provided by academia and the future analytics needs of industry. An evaluation of a survey conducted by Christopher Newport University (CNU) to establish how useful university courses are to students in employment is presented. Three surveys were conducted, the Graduate Survey of Educational Gains, the Career Relevance Survey and the Employer Perception Survey. The results confirm the overall value a college education has in enabling people to suceed in their careers.

This paper reports the results of a 1990 survey of 60 NASPAA doctoral programs in public affairs and administration. It presents descriptive data about a variety of facets of public affairs and administration doctoral programs: program and institutional structure, size, student diversity, number of degrees granted, and faculty hires. Respondents identified five broad areas as sources for special concern for the design and operation of doctoral programs: (1) problems that stem from limited resource availability; (2) issues related to the quality of the educational program; (3) questions dealing with the definition of the scope of offerings and requirements; (4) considerations for the needs of part-time students; and (5) issues of minority recruitment and retention. The paper concludes with a discussion of issues that the survey findings pose for doctoral education in public affairs and administration., The results of a 1990 survey of 60 National Assn of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration doctoral programs in public affairs and administration reveals six major issues that must be examined. Hiring patterns, increase in the population of doctoral students, quality of research, curriculum, number of part-time students and minority recruitment are indicated.

This article presents two different, but similar, rankings of U.S. statistics faculties according to their current representation on editorial boards of 14 U.S. statistics journals. Canada ranks highest among the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries in the proportion of its working-age population with college and university education combined. In 2000, 20 percent of Canada's working-age population had a university education, and 21 percent a college education.

Registered radiologic technologists holding doctoral degrees were surveyed to establish demographic and professional profiles. In addition, the scholarly production of this unique group was quantified by self-reports. A majority of respondents (67%) were not employed in the radiologic sciences and most had not authored journal articles, books or submitted grant proposals. Recent research has revealed that graduates offer businesses added value, in a variety of areas including adaptability, flexibility, and intelligence. The 'Graduates' Work: Organisational change and students' attitudes' survey was financed by the Council for Industry and Higher Education; the Department of Education; and the Association of Graduate Recruiters. A total of 91 business were contacted and 258 interviews conducted.

Undergraduate chemistry has not increased at most institutions and has decreased in 75% since 1977 when measured by publication rates. This trend is disturbing because undergraduate research participation has been linked to obtaining a doctorate in science in an earlier study. A survey to resolve whether officers with higher educational background are more effective was conducted on 50 respondents with 37 responding. Results indicate that while personnel with advanced education have more career advancement possibilities than others, it does not translate to work efficiency in corrections. Instead, the survey indicates that there is a tendency by degree holding officers to create tension and resentment in the workplace. However, as part of the professionalization of the job, monetary and benefit compensations will compel officers to take higher education.
