2. Long-term voltage stability monitoring of power system areas using a kernel extreme learning machine approach

Abstract

The ever increasing active and reactive power demands, along with limited sources of generation and delays in transmission expansion projects, have led many power systems to operate near their voltage stability limits. In this context, voltage stability monitoring methodologies have become an important topic in power systems research. This paper presents a novel methodology for long-term voltage stability monitoring in power systems that exploits the feasibility of phasor-type information in order to estimate the long-term voltage stability status. The information regarding the current system condition is acquired through synchronized phasor measurements and the power system is divided in sub-areas for improving its supervision; then, an artificial intelligence approach based on kernel extreme learning machine is used for long-term voltage stability assessment. The proposed scheme allows foreseeing the voltage instability caused by limitations in reactive power transmission, and it also permits alerting when a system area experiences a deficit of reactive power from supply sources. The validation of the proposed method is performed on the 39-bus test system, obtaining feasible results. The tests confirmed that the proposed method works properly under different scenarios and system conditions, always ensuring proper voltage stability status results independently of its cause.

Abstract

Purpose/ObjectivesMagnetic resonance-guided radiotherapy (MRgRT) is increasingly used in a variety of adult cancers. To date, published experience regarding the use of MRgRT in pediatric patients is limited to two case reports. We report on the use of MRgRT for pediatric patients at our institution during a four-year period and describe important considerations in the selection and application of this technology in children.Materials/MethodsAll patients treated with MRgRT since inception at our institution between 4/2018 and 4/2022 were retrospectively reviewed. We also evaluated all pediatric patients treated at our institution during the same period who received either imaging or treatment using our magnetic resonance-guided linear accelerator (MR Linac). We summarize four clinical cases where MRgRT was selected for treatment in our clinic, including disease outcomes and toxicities and describe our experience using the MR Linac for imaging before and during treatment for image fusion and tumor assessments.ResultsBetween 4/2018 and 4/2022, 535 patients received MRgRT at our center, including 405 (75.7%) with stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR). During this period, 347 distinct radiotherapy courses were delivered to pediatric patients, including 217 (62.5%) with proton therapy. Four pediatric patients received MRgRT. One received SABR for lung metastasis with daily adaptive replanning and a second was treated for liver metastasis using a non-adaptive workflow. Two patients received fractionated MRgRT for an ALK-rearranged non-small cell lung cancer and neuroblastoma. No Grade 2 or higher toxicities were observed or reported during MRgRT or subsequent follow-up. Twelve patients underwent MR imaging without contrast during treatment for brain tumors to assess for tumor/cystic changes. Two patients treated with other modalities underwent MR simulation for target volume delineation and organ at risk sparing due to anatomic changes during treatment or unexpected delays in obtaining diagnostic MR appointments.ConclusionsIn four pediatric patients treated with MRgRT, treatment was well tolerated with no severe acute effects. At our center, most pediatric patients are treated with proton therapy, but the cases selected for MRgRT demonstrated significant organ at risk sparing compared to alternative modalities. In particular, MRgRT may provide advantages for thoracic/abdominal/pelvic targets using gated delivery and adaptive replanning, but selected patients treated with fractionated radiotherapy may also benefit MRgRT through superior organ at risk sparing.

Abstract

Pregnancy in adolescence is a public health problem that has consequences for both the mother and the child. Culture and social beliefs play an important role in the transmission of knowledge and beliefs related to sexuality, which influences the prevention of pregnancy in adolescents, it being necessary to involve the community in prevention programs, dialogue tables, community surveys and participatory workshops, with the aim of promoting the prevention of pregnancy in adolescents in the Sancan Commune, while addressing the cultural influence that can contribute to this problem. For the development of this bibliographic review, based on documentary research, databases available in national and international indexed scientific journals, official health pages and reliable databases were used. The research consulted has revealed notable differences in behaviors. sexual relations of men and women, which can influence the prevention of pregnancy in adolescents, thus concluding that the family and the educational institution emerge as crucial actors in the prevention of pregnancy in adolescence, requiring the implementation of preventive measures, the provision information and support, as well as the promotion of self-esteem and personal development., El embarazo en la adolescencia es un problema de salud pública que trae consigo consecuencias tanto para la madre como para el niño, la cultura y las creencias sociales juegan un papel importante en la transmisión de conocimientos y creencias relacionadas con la sexualidad, lo que influye en la prevención del embarazo en adolescentes, siendo necesario involucrar a la comunidad en programas de prevención, mesas de diálogo, encuestas comunitarias y talleres participativos, con el objetivo de fomentar la prevención del embarazo en adolescentes de la Comuna Sancan, al mismo tiempo que se aborda la influencia cultural que puede contribuir a esta problemática. Para el desarrollo de esta revisión bibliográfica, fundamentada en una investigación documental, se utilizaron las bases de datos disponibles en revistas científicas indexadas, nacionales e internacionales, páginas oficiales de salud y bases de datos confiables, las investigaciones consultadas han revelado notables diferencias en las conductas sexuales de hombres y mujeres, lo que puede influir en la prevención del embarazo en adolescentes, concluyendo así, que la familia y la institución educativa emergen como actores cruciales en la prevención del embarazo en la adolescencia, requiriendo la implementación de medidas preventivas, la provisión de información y apoyo, así como la promoción de la autoestima y el desarrollo personal.

6. Service Providers? Perceptions of Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention Training Needs

Abstract

Following the initial implementation of universal newborn hearing screening initiatives currently required by law in most states, there is a need to move beyond the hospital follow-up to the delivery of services and support for children identified with hearing loss. A cadre of trained providers is needed to deliver these services. In order to provide training to professionals from varied backgrounds and disciplines expediently, one state provided training in a multidisciplinary context. Such an approach encourages broader follow-up, consistency across providers, and an enhanced multidisciplinary perspective for fostering collaboration across public and private providers. Results of trainees? self-assessments of their level of preparedness on specific objectives prior to and after eight training sessions are reported in this article. Significant increases were evident in participants? reported knowledge of and perceived ability to implement identified objectives. Qualitative results illustrated that participants gained knowledge of intervention strategies and techniques and expressed a desire for further training in this area.

Abstract

Pandemija Covida-19 imala je golem utjecaj na poučavanje, ali i na iskustvo učenja studenata u svim područjima. Situacija nastala zbog pandemije donijela je jedinstvene izazove za održavanje nastavnog procesa i nametnula kao rješenje uvođenje hitne online nastave. Ispitivanje zadovoljstva online nastavom važan je aspekt promicanja uspješnih obrazovnih procesa. Ovo je istraživanje imalo za cilj identificirati čimbenike koji su utjecali na zadovoljstvo, odnosno na nezadovoljstvo studenata rumunjskog jezika i književnosti s Filozofskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu provođenjem nastave online tijekom pandemije Covida-19. U svrhu istraživanja osmišljen je online upitnik. Pozivu na ispunjavanje upitnika odazvala se većina studenata uključenih u online učenje tijekom pandemije. Rezultati istraživanja pokazuju da su studenti imali više poteškoća s prelaskom na online učenje tijekom pandemije Covid-19, poput problema s tehnologijom, problema s upravljanjem vremenom i s ravnotežom između privatnog života i obrazovanja. Unatoč svim navedenim teškoćama, rezultati također pokazuju da je većina ispitanih studenata zadovoljna iskustvom online učenja.

14. Voltage Stability Margin Index Estimation Using a Hybrid Kernel Extreme Learning Machine Approach

Abstract

This paper presents a novel approach for Voltage Stability Margin (VSM) estimation that combines a Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM) with a Mean-Variance Mapping Optimization (MVMO) algorithm. Since the performance of a KELM depends on a proper parameter selection, the MVMO is used to optimize such task. In the proposed MVMO-KELM model the inputs and output are the magnitudes of voltage phasors and the VSM index, respectively. A Monte Carlo simulation was implemented to build a data base for the training and validation of the model. The data base considers different operative scenarios for three type of customers (residential commercial and industrial) as well as N-1 contingencies. The proposed MVMO-KELM model was validated with the IEEE 39 bus power system comparing its performance with a support vector machine (SVM) and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approach. Results evidenced a better performance of the proposed MVMO-KELM model when compared to such techniques. Furthermore, the higher robustness of the MVMO-KELM was also evidenced when considering noise in the input data.

Research Findings: Services to young children with disabilities and their families are provided through state and federal resources to those who meet eligibility requirements. This article reviews the literature that addresses the transition to preschool special education services occurring from the time a child reaches 2 years, 6 months, of age until the child's third birthday. Practice or Policy: We discuss the conceptual frameworks of transition, as well as the definition and requirements of transition, and factors affecting a smooth transition for young children and their families. We also present literature on transition practices such as technical assistance and collaboration, parent and family experiences, program quality, assistance for children and families, and policy considerations, as well as implications and recommendations for future research.

19. Transition to Preschool Programs for Young Children with Disabilities

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine factors influencing easier transitions and placements of young children with disabilities into Part B preschool special education programs. The authors examined associations between children's referral age and the following factors: (a) level of functioning of the child, (b) educational level of the mother, and (c) source of the referral. They also sought to determine if these variables might assist in predicting placement on or before the child's RD birthday or placement after the child's 3rd birthday. Source of referral and child's level of functioning were significant factors in predicting age at referral and age at placement with source of referral carrying the heaviest weighting, especially for referrals from the Part C early intervention system. Abstract

Risk factors pre-disposing local butter to food safety hazards in the informal marketing system along the supply chain of the central highlands and south-west midlands of Ethiopia were assessed. Purposive random sampling technique was used to select 1101 respondents from the local butter supply chain (532 producers, 107 retailers and 462 consumers). Data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire developed separately for each category of respondents. Ninety- nine percent of the respondents indicated that butter was stored and marketed at ambient temperature with no cold chain management. Common butter storage materials included high-density polyethylene containers (51%), low-density polyethylene plastic bags (29%) and clay pots (73%). The respondents packed and marketed butter using castor leaves, plastic cups and false banana leaves and lints. Stream, river and borehole water sources were used to wash vessels, churners and fresh butter. However, only 23% of the respondents used tap water for the same purposes. The majority of the respondents trekked on their foot to take butter to local market places followed by the use of horse carts (11%) and three-wheel drives (10%). Itinerant traders and retailers played key roles in the informal supply chain of butter. Overall, there are no standard operating procedures and infrastructures along the supply chain. Thus, local butter supplied to consumers is liable to sensorial, physico-chemical and microbial deterioration and is exposed to risks of food-borne pathogens. The practices endanger the safety and quality of local butter unless stringent quality control measures are taken by concerned regulatory bodies. University teachers are subjected to constantly changing and evolving working conditions, one of them is the quality of working life, synonymous with personal well-being as one of the important areas for teachers, derived from the satisfaction or dissatisfaction generated by their virtual work activities. The objective of the present investigation is to know the level of satisfaction of the teachers of the UNESUM and to establish recommendations for the improvement of this. A study was carried out with a descriptive, cross-sectional, non-experimental quantitative approach, which made it possible to measure the quality of work life of the academic staff of the Nursing Career. Of a total of 48 teachers to whom the survey was applied, low levels of job satisfaction were found in all the factors studied, the most worrisome being: personal development achieved at work and the administration of free time and dissatisfaction respectively. Teacher job satisfaction is essential for the efficient and effective development of academic and personal activities, it is important that institutions can generate strategies to make visible and improve existing working conditions that will: proportionally improve teacher satisfaction and process development teaching learning., Los docentes universitarios están sometidos a condiciones laborales en constante cambio y evolución, una de ellas, es la calidad de vida laboral, sinónimo de bienestar personal como uno de los ámbitos importantes para el profesorado. Este bienestar es derivado de la satisfacción o insatisfacción que generan sus actividades laborales virtuales. El objetivo de la presente investigación es conocer el nivel de satisfacción de los docentes de la Universidad Estatal del Sur de Manabí, y establecer recomendaciones para la mejora de este. Se realizó un estudio con un enfoque cuantitativo de tipo descriptivo, transversal no experimental que permitió medir la calidad de vida laboral del personal académico de la Carrera de Enfermería. De un total de 48 docentes a los que se les aplicó la encuesta, se encontró bajos niveles de satisfacción en el trabajo en todos los factores estudiados, siendo los más preocupantes: el desarrollo personal logrado en el trabajo y la administración de tiempo libre y la insatisfacción que esto genera. La satisfacción laboral del docente es indispensable para el desarrollo eficiente y eficaz de las actividades académicas y personales. Resulta importante que las instituciones puedan generar estrategias para visibilizar y mejorar las condiciones laborales existentes que proporcionalmente mejorarán la satisfacción de los docentes y el desarrollo del proceso enseñanza aprendizaje.

26. The Consequences of Cannabis Use: A Review of Self-Reported Use and Experiences Among College Students

Abstract

Healthy People 2020 has introduced a new initiative focused on adolescent health, ages 10-17, and young adults, ages 18-25, due to health and social problems starting or peaking during these years. The initiative focuses on decreasing such problems including substance use. Cannabis is one of the most popular illegal substances used among young adults for recreation in the United States. Multiple consequences of cannabis use are well documented in the literature including the development of medical problems, developmental delays, and social issues. Furthermore, academic success is linked to overall health outcomes.The aim of this study was to explore cannabis use and knowledge of consequences among college students at a university in southwest Texas.Secondary analysis of survey results from students at a small, private university. The Core Alcohol and Drug Survey, a self-report questionnaire, was utilized to measure alcohol and drug usage, attitudes, perceptions, and opinions regarding drug and alcohol usage. The survey was distributed to all 6,537 undergraduate students. The survey results were collected over a 3-month period and provided to the authors for interpretation.Eighty-two survey responses were received. Analysis indicated that 24.7% of the students used marijuana in the past year, and 16% had used cannabis within 30 days of the survey. Of the respondents surveyed, 13.3% reported they used cannabis occasionally and 38.7% reported they used cannabis regularly. Furthermore, survey results indicated that 12.7% of respondents reported some of the consequences from cannabis use experienced within the past year included public misconduct, such as fighting, arguing, and vandalism. In addition, 13.9% reported having experienced serious personal problems due to cannabis use at least once during the past year including injuries, suicidal thoughts, and sexual assault. Reported attitudes and perceptions of cannabis use include 13.3% perceived great risk associated with cannabis use. Moreover, 62.3% of respondents believe that their friends would disapprove of cannabis use. A negative correlation was identified between cannabis use within the previous 30 days and low grades.The consequences of cannabis use are well documented in the literature, yet cannabis remains a popularly used illegal substance among college students. Despite experiencing known consequences of cannabis use, much of the sample reported regular use of the substance.Results of the study may be used to improve education and interventions aimed at reducing cannabis use among college students. In addition, providers may use the information to provide patient education at routine visits.

Abstract

This paper proposes a probabilistic small signal stability assessment (PSSSA) methodology based on the application of Monte Carlo approach for iterative evaluation, via modal analysis of small signal stability (SSS). Operation states represented by random values of generation and demand are analyzed. A probabilistic instability risk index based on cumulative probability distribution function of damping ratios of oscillatory modes is calculated, as well as a power system stabilizer (PSS) devices location index based on eigenvectors and participation factors, which are considered random variables. Moreover, the impact of long-distance power flows on oscillatory modes (OM) and how the damping of OM depends on the orientation and magnitude of power flows is investigated. Further, an additional index concerns qualitatively the determination of transfer capability as affected by small signal stability. PSSSA is tested on a reduced order model of New England--New York's interconnected system considering uncertainties around three different system conditions separately: highly loaded, fairly loaded, and lowly loaded. The results highlight the main advantages of PSSSA over deterministic SSS studies such as instability risk assessment, small signal stability enhancement through adequate PSS location, and the proposal of possible restrictions for transfer capability in order to avoid poorly damped oscillations in the face of the diversity in power system operation. The vertiginous technological development has impacted towards more specialized production models, there-fore, competition in the workplace requires professionals with increasingly greater skills; teaching by compe-tencies in universities constitutes the challenge of our time, becoming the pedagogical strategy that succeeds in the controversy of vocational training and that responds to the needs of the changing world of the 21st century. This educational model developed throughout the world, has had the main boom in Europe, adopted by virtue of the free mobility of professionals from the territory of the European Union, so the main studies refer to the experience provided by the old continent. Within the framework of this model, the historical controversy about professionalizing education and humanistic education revolves. Abstract

James Britton proposed three primary language functions, which researchers tested using faculty members from Tawi-Tawi Regional Agricultural College (TRAC), for communicative reading comprehension—transactional, expressive, and poetic. Tawi-Tawi has many schools with high literacy levels, which contributes to a better society and a more peaceful country. The results revealed that the gender of the respondents had no bearing on their level of communication competency, and no significant differences were found between male and female faculty members. Additionally, there was no significant relationship found between the socio-demographic profiles and teaching performance of the faculty members in the English discipline.

Abstract

Despite the improvements reached by microsurgeons in the last 30 years, postoperative complications still occur and most of them are the result of venous thrombosis at the pedicle anastomosis. Primary prevention of thrombosis is mandatory and anticoagulant therapy in the preoperative and postoperative period is widely used. Still, there is a lack of consensus in the literature about the best postoperative protocol for microsurgical reconstruction. The authors aimed to review the postoperative antithrombotic regimens described in literature focusing on their effects and risks, and moreover, share their experience.The authors performed a literature review of postsurgical antithrombotic protocols applied in reconstructive microsurgery. Research on PubMed server was performed typing the terms "antithrombotic", "postoperative", "microsurgery", "free flap pedicle", "anticlotting", "anticoagulant".The authors described the postoperative standardized pro-weight pharmacological protocol applied in their unit: a combination of dextran and heparin. They inhibit more than one pattern of coagulation in order to stop platelet aggregation and thrombin action and, in the meantime, contending fluid loss with plasma expansion.Nowadays, a non-standardized practice, based on experience, is applied by microsurgeons in postsurgical care; the authors performed a review of the combined antithrombotic therapies described in the literature. A standardized pro-weight pharmacological protocol is proposed; it allows to increase blood flow by volume expander action (Dextran) and thrombin inhibition (Heparin). Still, coagulation cascade and platelet function have a wide variability among humans, as well as the effect of drugs. Achieving an optimal antithrombotic effect and minimizing adverse reactions meantime remains a challenge.

Abstract

The lifestyles are all those acquired and predominant behaviors of a person that largely determine their state of health. An inadequate lifestyle is one of the main factors for the development of diabetes mellitus, a chronic non-communicable disease characterized by the increase in blood glucose levels, and which causes major problems in social well-being. This research was carried out in the community of Joa in Jipijapa canton, province of Manabí to determine risk factors that are predisposing for diabetes mellitus in its inhabitants. The methodological design is made up of a descriptive cross-sectional study, applying the analytical and quantitative methods, the techniques used were the interview with a renowned diabetologist in the province and the survey of the inhabitants of the community, to learn about lifestyles and risk factors, in addition to taking anthropometric perimeters, to determine the level of Body Mass Index and fasting blood glucose levels; of 371 inhabitants, the probabilistic sampling technique was used with a margin of error of 10% giving a sample of 58 people, the results allowed us to determine that the lifestyles in the population are mostly inadequate and therefore constitute net risk factors that Together with the results of the body mass index and blood glucose, there is a high risk of developing type II diabetes mellitus., Los estilos de vida son todas aquellas conductas adquiridas y predominantes de una persona que determinan en gran medida su estado de salud. Un estilo de vida inadecuado es uno de los principales factores para el desarrollo de diabetes mellitus, enfermedad crónica no transmisible caracterizada por el aumento de los niveles de glucemia en la sangre, y que causa grandes afecciones en el bienestar social. Esta investigación se llevó a cabo en la comunidad de Joa del cantón Jipijapa, provincia de Manabí para determinar factores de riesgos que son predisponentes para diabetes mellitus en sus habitantes. El diseño metodológico está conformado por un estudio de tipo descriptivo de corte transversal, aplicando los métodos analítico y cuantitativo, las técnicas utilizadas fueron la entrevista a un reconocido médico diabetólogo de la provincia y la encuesta a los habitantes de la comunidad, para conocer sobre los estilos de vida y factores de riesgo, además de toma de los perímetros antropométricos, a fin de determinar el nivel de Índice de Masa Corporal y niveles de glucemia en ayunas; de 371 habitantes se utilizó la técnica de muestreo probabilístico con margen de error de 10% dando una muestra de 58 personas, los resultados permitieron determinar que los estilos de vida en la población son inadecuados en su mayoría por lo que constituyen factores de riesgo netos que conjuntamente con los resultados del índice de masa corporal y glucemia indican que existe un alto riesgo de desarrollar diabetes mellitus tipo II.

Abstract

La obesidad representa una patología de orden multifactorial, en la misma influyen diferentes factores, los cuales llevan a que sea considerada un problema de salud público. Se basa en un trastorno complejo que consiste en tener una cantidad excesiva de grasa corporal, aumentando el riesgo de enfermedades y problemas de salud, tales como enfermedad cardíaca, diabetes y presión arterial alta. Según investigaciones esta patología, representa una condición patológica muy común en el ser humano y presente desde la remota antigüedad, que persiste y se incrementa durante siglos por factores genéticos y ambientales, hasta convertirse actualmente en una pandemia con consecuencias nefastas para la salud. En base a esto, se destaca la importancia y objetivo general del presente estudio, el cual centra su atención en analizar los factores de riesgo de obesidad en empleados públicos. La metodología aplicada fue de tipo documental, pues en él se realiza un análisis de contenido de artículos y documentos sobre el tema y en bases de datos. Entre sus resultados se encontró que: la obesidad representa una condición médica en la que influyen los estilos de vida, hábitos alimenticios, sedentarismo, estrés asociado con grados de ansiedad, originados por exceso de trabajo; condiciones éstas que conllevan al individuos a consumir una dieta alta en grasas y azúcares, lo que en consecuencia origina incluso, altos grados de dislipidemias y otras consecuencias médicas propias de enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles como es el caso de la diabetes, hipertensión, enfermedades cerebrovasculares. En consecuencia, se debe resaltar que la acción clave para controlar esta epidemia, que afecta a todos los estratos sociales de la población, es prevenir. Dentro de los factores de riesgo más comunes se encuentran el desequilibrio de energía, inactividad física, genética, factores emocionales, hábito de fumar, embarazo y pérdida del sueño.

Abstract

Thumb reconstruction has always been challenging for hand surgeons. The disability can severely influence the working and social life of the patient, even if just the distal phalanx is affected. Revascularization is the best surgical option for incomplete distal amputation, although microsurgical reconstruction, sometimes, could be not feasible. A simple basic-skills-based reconstructive method, that takes into account the length preservation and a short recovery should be advocated. We treated 14 incomplete distal thumb amputations with bone exposure, classified as Hirase zone IIA-IIB. The distal thumb was held by a short tissue islet, nor neurovascular bundle, nor dorsal vein was included. Patients were assessed for skin and bone healing, length of thumb shortening, and time of return to full occupational activity. QDASH score was evaluated along with a two-point discrimination test. The outcome was fair in all 14 patients. Partial distal thumb necrosis was observed in six cases (40%); they healed by secondary intention. Finger shortening had a mean of 6.9 mm (range, 6–8 mm), mean interphalangeal joint motion was 48 degrees (range,45–55 degrees). The median static two-point discrimination was 7.1 mm (range, 6–9 mm), the mean quick DASH score was 1.8 (range, 0–4.5). All patients returned to work within a mean of 4.3 weeks (range, 4–5 weeks). The follow-up period was 12 months. Length preservation, fast recovery and easy return to manual work, above all, are the keystones of our successful procedure. Whether the revascularization is not executable, we provide a reliable and simple method to grant a functional thumb. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This chapter presents a novel post‐contingency pattern recognition method for predicting the dynamic vulnerability status of an Electric Power System. The methodology begins with the determination of post‐contingency dynamic vulnerability regions (DVRs) using Monte Carlo (MC) simulation and empirical orthogonal functions (EOFs), which allow finding the best pattern functions for representing the particular dynamic signal behavior. By applying the introduced DVR concept, the chapter describes a novel approach to determining the post‐contingency transient, voltage, and frequency stability (TVFS) vulnerability status of an Electric Power System. The chapter also presents a comprehensive approach for predicting the power system's post‐contingency dynamic vulnerability status. Based on the requirement of dynamic vulnerability status prediction, a two‐class classifier is structured that sorts the power system vulnerability status into “vulnerable” or “non‐vulnerable” using the pattern vectors obtained from the pattern recognition method as inputs of support vector classifier (SVC).

Abstract

This chapter presents a comprehensive real‐time vulnerability assessment methodology oriented to determine vulnerable areas of an electric power system and to assess vulnerability of each one of them. In doing so, it considers both aspects involved in the vulnerability concept, that is: assessment of the system's tendency to reach a critical state, and evaluation of the actual security level. The chapter introduces the methodology for identifying vulnerable areas in real time, based on electrical coherency. In order to complement the transient, voltage, and frequency stability (TVFS) vulnerability assessment proposed in the chapter, Prony analysis is used to estimate the frequency, damping, and magnitude of dominant modes that are observable in a given real‐time electrical signal. The computation of each TVFS performance indicators is illustrated in order to show the real‐time application of the stage involved with the evaluation of the system security level.
