Abstract

This paper presents the preliminary results of an experimental research on the influence of heat and steam curing on the performances of one-part alkali-activated mortars based on low calcium fly ash (FA) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) with different GGBFS/FA ratios. The mortars were manufactured at equal water to precursor ratio and were activated by sodium silicate, potassium hydroxide and sodium carbonate in powder form. In general, by growing the GGBFS/FA ratio, the workability of fresh mortars decreases and the elasto-mechanical performance increases, independently of curing conditions. The heat and/or steam curing temperatures equal to 40°C or 60°C promote the development of higher early compressive strength respect to standard curing conditions (20°C), especially at high GGBFS/FA ratios, while no advantages were detected at longer ages. Abstract

A coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) surveillance study was performed in March-April 2020 among asymptomatic healthcare workers (HCWs) at a specialist infectious diseases hospital in Naples, Italy. All HCWs underwent two rounds of molecular and serological testing for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). One hundred and fifteen HCWs were tested; of these, two cases of infection were identified by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and two HCWs were SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin G seropositive. The overall prevalence of current or probable previous infection was 3.4%. The infection rate among HCWs was reasonably low. Most of the infected HCWs had been asymptomatic for the preceding 30 days, which supports the need for periodic screening of HCWs for COVID-19.

Abstract

We have investigated in 400 patients, 159 male and 241 female, mean age 58 years, with type 2 diabetes, the incidence of peptic ulcer and on 127 patients with peptic ulcer, the incidence of diabetes mellitus. In conclusion the incidence of peptic ulcer is no more than 3,9% in diabetic patients. In peptic ulcer the female to male ratio is 1:0,9. The seat of the ulcer is resulted to be in ratio of 1,4:1 more in the duodenal tract than in the gastric tract. The result are attributed to the increased secretion of the gastrointestinal hormones (Bombesin and Somatostatin) in the diabetic patients. However the neuromodulator of gastrointestinal hormones release is mediated of the Dorsal Motor nucleus of the Vagus nerve connected to the endocrine pancreas exclusively via vagal fibers and has a role in neurally mediated insulin release.

Abstract

We have investigated the effect of dilazep on the prostaglandin synthesis determined as indicator malondialdehyde (MDA) formation. Twenty patients with type 2 diabetes, aged 25-65 years were orally given dilazep at 100 mg X 3/day for 56 daily. The platelet activity has valued before and after the treatment with the production of the MDA. We conclude that the dilazep inhibited statistically significant biosynthesis of prostaglandin endoperoxides from arachidonic acid.

Abstract

The aim of the present paper was to evaluate the effect of the 1,4 bis [3-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl-oxy) propyl] perhydro-1,4 diazepina (dilazep) on reduction of circulating platelet aggregates in 18 patients with type 2 diabetes, 13 female and 5 male, aged 25-65 years. Dilazep was orally given at 100 mg X 3/day for 8 weeks. The platelet activity has valued before and after the treatment trough the evaluation of circulating platelet aggregates with the method of Wu and Hoak. The results confirmed that the dilazep decreased statistically significant after 8 weeks the circulating aggregates.
