Nesta pesquisa, o comportamento de expansão do PP bem como de misturas com polímeros ramificados, a adição de nanotubos de haloisita (HNT) e de talco foi estudado. Polipropileno ramificado (LCBPP) bem como copolímero de etileno-octeno (POE) foi utilizado para aumentar a expansividade em mistura com LPP. Em seguida, a expansão dos corpos de prova foi realizada por moldagem por injeção e agente químico de expansão. O PP expandido exibiu alta densidade de células bem como colapso mesmas enquanto que a modificação com 20 partes por cem (pcr) de polipropileno com ramificação de cadeia (LCBPP) ou de copolímero de etileno-octeno (POE), aumentaram a homogeneidade de distribuição das células bem como reduziram o efeito de colapso. Por sua vez, a adição de talco ou HNT nas composições propostas, aumentou o efeito de nucleação de células da matriz, porém com maior intensidade nas composições de PP com os polímeros ramificados. Apesar da adição de talco ter resultado no aumento superior em termos de densidade de células, a adição de 3 pcr de HNT reduziu a condutividade térmica do material expandido em 13%. Adicionalmente, a presença da carga na matriz aumentou a Tc bem como resultou em leve aumento nas propriedades dinâmica-mecânica medidas por DMTA. Dentre as composições propostas, a adição de POE na matriz de PP resultou em menor propriedade mecânica, térmica e morfológica, pois esta mistura é imiscível e assim apresentou baixa capacidade de expansão. Adicionalmente, as melhorias em termos de nucleação, para estas composições, tiveram pouco efeito na morfologia, a qual resultou na degradação das propriedades mecânicas e de isolamento térmico. Na tentativa de aumentar a densidade de células bem como a expansividade da matriz de PP/POE com maior massa molar, foram desenvolvidas composições utilizando HNT e sorbitol conjugados como agentes de nucleação. Como resultado houve aumento da eficiência de nucleação, porém a baixa propriedade reológica da matriz não favoreceu a expansividade das composições. Dessa forma, não houve ganho em termos de propriedades mecânicas ou físicas para estas composições. Assim, foi possível concluir que além de agentes de nucleação, é necessário que a matriz apresente propriedades reológicas suficientes para resultar em bom balanço entre expansividade, densidade e homogeneidade na distribuição de tamanho das células. In this research, the foaming behavior of polypropylene (PP) blended with ramified polymers and the use of halloysite and talc as nucleating agent is studied. The ramified PP (LCBPP) and ethylene-octene copolymer (POE) was used to improve expansion ratio of the PP. Subsequent foaming experiments were conducted using chemical blowing agent (CBA) in injection molding processing. PP foam exhibited high cell density and cell size as well as a collapsing effect, whereas the blend with ramified polymer showed reduction of the collapsing and increases the homogeneous cell size distribution. The introduction of a small amount of HNT or talc as nucleating agent in the blend improved the foaming behavior of the matrix, with a uniform cell structure distribution in the resultant foams. Although the addition of talc showed increasing in terms of the cell density, the use of 3 pcr of HNT reduced the thermal conductivity of the expanded material around 13%. In addition, the presence of filler increased Tc and slightly increased dynamic-mechanical properties measured by DMTA. Among the compositions studied, the use of POE in the LPP matrix, showed reduction of the mechanical, thermal and morphological properties due to the low expansion ratio resulted by the incompatibility between the LPP and POE. Additionally, the improvements in terms of the cell nucleation in the blends of PP with POE resulted in lower nucleating effect in which the degradation of the mechanical and insulation properties occurred. In attempt to improve cell density as well as cell morphology, new compositions were developed using higher molecular weight polymers. The polymers used were a mixture between PP, POE and HNT and sorbitol as nucleating agent. Although improvements of the nucleation efficiency, the lack of strain hardening presented by the polymers did not improve cell morphology. As a result, the collapsing effect governed the expansion behavior in these formulations. It was concluded that, besides the use of the nucleating agent, it’s necessary to use polymers with rheological properties such as strain hardening to achieve a better performance in terms of the cell nucleation as well as expansion ratio.

The scope of this research is the recycling of polymers from mobile phones hulls discarded and the performance evaluation when they are submitted to the Recycling Cycle of Materials (RCM). The studied material was the ABS/PC blend in a 70/30 proportion. Different compositions were evaluated adding virgin material, recy cled material and using the copolymer SBS as impact modifier. In order to evaluate the properties of material's composition, the samples were characterized by TGA, FTIR, SEM, IZOD impact strength and tensile strength tests. At the first stage, the pr esented results suggest the com position containing 25% of recycl ed material and 5% of SBS combines good mechanical performance to the higher content of recycled material and lower content of impact modifier providing major benefits to recycling plans. Five cycles (RCM) were a pplied in the second stage; they evidenced a decrease trend considering the impact strength. At first and second cycle the impact strength was higher than reference materia l (A BS/PC blend) and from the fourth cycle it was lower. The superiority impact strength in the first and second cycles can be attributed to impact modifier effect. The thermal tests and th e spectrometry didn’t show the presence of degradation process in the m aterial and the TGA curves demonstrated the process stability. The impact surf ace of each sample was observed at SEM. The microstructures are not homogeneous presenting voids and lamellar appearance, although the outer surface presents no defects, dem onstrating good moldability. T he present work aims to assess the life cycle of the material from the successive recycling processes.

Neste trabalho foram obtidos nanocompósitos de PP com nanotubos de haloista (HNT) através do método de intercalação por fusão utilizando uma extrusora dupla rosca. Foram utilizados alguns aditivos para alcançar propriedades finais superiores nos nanocompósitos formados, para aumentar a força de adesão entre a HNT e a matriz polimérica, tais como o uso de PP-g-MA e três tipo de tensoativos não iônicos a base de amina graxa etoxilada, álcool alcoxilado e alquifenol etoxilado e propoxilado para avaliar o efeito na dispersão, adesão interfacial e nas propriedades mecânicas, morfológicas e térmicas dos nanocompósitos de PP/HNT. A adição de HNT proporcionou aumento nas propriedades térmicas e mecânicas do PP, principalmente quando houve melhor dispersão da HNT na matriz. A utilização dos tensoativos nas misturas aumentaram os resultados de resistência ao impacto e maiores teores do mesmo apresentaram efeito de plastificação da matriz, reduzindo levemente Tm, aumentando a elongação à ruptura dos nanocompósitos. A adição de PP-g-MA aumentou as propriedades de módulo elástico em relação aos tensoativos. Nanocompósitos obtidos com a utilização da alimentação lateral não mostraram melhores propriedades, visto que a HNT não foi bem dispersa na matriz de PP. PP nanocomposites were obtained with halloysite nanotubos (HNT) through the melt intercalation method. Some additives were used for obtaining good mechanical and thermal properties, such as PP-g-MA and surfactants to increase the force of adhesion between the clay and the thermoplastic matrix. The HNT addition in the systems provided an increase in the thermal and mechanical properties of the PP matrix, mainly when good dispersion of the HNT were obtained. The use of the surfactants increase Impact Izod and larger amounts of surfactans acted as plasticizer. The Tm presented decrease and increase tensile strenght when surfactans was used. The addition of PP-g-MA increase tensile modulus in relation to the surfactants. Nanocomposites obtained by side feeder not improve the mechanical properties. The HNT obtained poor dispersion on the matrix when side feeder mode was used.

As técnicas que utilizam membranas para o tratamento de águas residuais costumam promover maior qualidade da água tratada quando comparada a outros processos. Dentre eles, a pervaporação apresenta vantagens em termos de seletividade, além da baixa pressão de trabalho, o que pode evitar problemas de entupimento. Por outro lado, a polissulfona e o poliuretano possuem características complementares que podem conferir a blenda polimérica, composta por esses dois polímeros, características interessantes na aplicação de membranas em escala industrial. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho foi preparar e caracterizar membranas à base de polissulfona/poliuretano e testá-las com um efluente simulado contendo o corante preto reativo e cloreto de sódio utilizando o processo de pervaporação. Na sua confecção, também foram aplicados tratamento térmico (a 60 ° C) e tratamento de fotoiradiação (com luz ultravioleta). As caracterizações foram realizadas analisando propriedades físicas, químicas, superficiais, morfológicas, físico-químicas e térmicas. De maneira geral, foi possível verificar que todas as membranas possuem uma camada densa. A análise térmica permitiu definir que a temperatura de trabalho indicada está abaixo de 50 ° C. Com o efluente simulado (corante preto reativo), todas as membranas atingiram 100% de seletividade. Já com a solução salina, a seletividade média ficou em torno de 98,5%. Os valores de fluxo de permeado ficaram dentro da faixa apresentada pelas membranas comerciais variando de 1,6 a 2,4 kg·m-2 ·h-1 . Ainda que, para a membrana fotoirradiada a reação de fotoenxerto tenha ocorrido, dentre todas as membranas a blenda sem quaisquer tratamentos se sobressaiu as demais, apresentando o maior fluxo de permeado dos efluentes simulados. Os resultados revelam que essas membranas são capazes de recuperar águas residuais de processos têxteis, além de terem o potencial de remover sais da água pelo processo de pervaporação. Among them, pervaporation has advantages in terms of selectivity, in addition to low working pressure, which can prevent clogging problems. On the other hand, polysulfone and polyurethane have complementary characteristics that can confer the polymer blend, composed of these two polymers, interesting characteristics in the application of membranes on an industrial scale. In this sense, the objective of this work was to prepare and characterize membranes based on polysulfone / polyurethane and test them with a simulated effluent containing the reactive black dye and sodium chloride using the pervaporation process. In its manufacture, heat treatment (at 60 ° C) and photoiradiation treatment (with ultraviolet light) were also applied. The characterizations were carried out by analyzing physical, chemical, surface, morphological, physical-chemical and thermal properties. In general, it was possible to verify that all membranes have a dense layer. The thermal analysis allowed to define that the indicated working temperature is below 50 °C. With the simulated effluent (reactive black dye), all membranes reached 100% selectivity. With the saline solution, mean selectivity was around 98.5%. The permeate flow values were within the range presented by commercial membranes ranging from 1.6 to 2.4 kg·m-2 ·h-1 . Although, for the photo-radiated membrane, the photo-graft reaction occurred, among all membranes, the blend without any treatments stood out from the others, presenting the highest permeate flow of the simulated effluents.
