Abstract Background & aims Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) are predictive biomarkers of favorable clinical outcomes and immunotherapy response in several solid malignancies, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the relationship between TLSs and NSCLC prognosis has not been eludicated from the aspects of location, density, and maturity. This study aimed to investigate the clinicopathological and prognostic significance of TLSs in NSCLC. Methods A collection of 151 resected pulmonary nodules in patients with NSCLC was retrospectively analyzed. Two experienced pathologists reviewed hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) slides and assessed TLS scores at different anatomic subregions. Then, we analyzed their correlation with clinicopathologic parameters and CD8 staining intensity and assessed multiple clinicopathological factors affecting patient prognosis. Results CD8 expression was correlated with total (TLS-CT) (P = 0.000), aggregates (Agg) (TLS-CT) (P = 0.001), follicles (FOL)-I (TLS-CT) (P = 0.025), and TLS(overall) (P = 0.013). TLS scores in the central tumor (CT) and invasion margin (IM) areas were negatively correlated with distant metastasis and Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) stage in NSCLC patients, while TLS score in the CT area was positively correlated with CD8 expression. TLS (overall), Agg (TLS-CT), and FOL-I (TLS-CT) were positively correlated with distant metastasis, UICC stage, and CD8 expression in NSCLC patients. Constructing heterojunctions with vacancies has garnered substantial attention in the field of piezo‐photocatalysis. However, the presence of interfacial vacancies can serve as charge‐trapping sites, leading to the localization of electrons and hindering interfacial charge transfer. Herein, dual oxygen vacancies in the NiFe‐layered double hydroxide and Bi2MoO6−x induced interfacial bonds have been designed for the piezo‐photocatalytic N2 oxidation to NO3−. Fortunately, it achieves sensational nitric acid production rates (7.23 mg g−1 h−1) in the absence of cocatalysts and sacrificial agents, which is 6.03 times of pure Bi2MoO6 that under ultrasound and light illumination. Theoretical and experimental results indicate that interfacial bonds act as "charge bridge" and "strain center" to break the carrier local effect and negative effects with piezocatalysis and photocatalysis for promoting exciton dissociation and charge transfer. Moreover, the strong electronic interaction of the interfacial bond induces internal reconstruction under ultrasound for promoting the local polarization and adsorption of N2, which accelerates the fracture of the N≡N bonds and reduces the activation energy of the reaction. The research not only establishes a novel approach for optimizing the combined effects of piezo‐catalysis and photocatalysis, but also achieves equilibrium between the synergistic impacts of vacancies and heterojunctions. Polymers are usually restricted on the high exciton binding energies and sluggish electron transfer because of the low dielectric constants. Regulating spin-polarized electrons is regarded as an attractive strategy, but often confined to the d-orbital elements. Here, the nonmetal P and N elements co-mediated the spin polarization of carbon nitrides (PCN) have been elaborately designed. The optimized PCN-3 shows an outstanding hydrogen production (22.2 mmol·g−1·h−1) coupled with selective benzylamine oxidation without using any solvent and cocatalysts, which is 200 times of original C3N4 and superior to the photocatalysts has been reported to date. Experimental and theoretical results verified that the spin-orbital coupling of N 2p and P 2p remarkably increased the parallel spin states of charge and reduced the formation of singlet excitons to accelerate exciton dissociation in carbon nitride. In addition, charge separation and surface catalysis can be significantly enhanced by the electron spin polarization of carbon nitride with the parallel arrangement, huge built-in electric field and disturbed electronic structure. Our finding deepens the insight into the charge separation and exciton dissociation in spin polarization, and offers new tactics to develop high-efficiency catalysts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Carbon nitride holds a great interest in the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution integrated with selective amine oxidation (HAR) process. However, C3N4 often suffers from strong intrinsic coulombic interactions, random charge carrier transfer, and poor active sites, which lead to its unsatisfactory photocatalytic efficiency. Herein, embedded edge and bridge units in the carbon nitride framework (EBCN) were synthesized by a facile polymerization method. DFT simulation and experimental results suggest that the electron-withdrawing edges perturbed the electronic structure of C3N4 to promote the exciton dissociation as well as acted as active sites, whereas the bridge groups served as electronic channels for directional electron delivery, which enlarged the built-in electric fields and promoted interfacial carrier transfer and exciton dissociation. Consequently, EBCN exhibited an outstanding hydrogen generation rate (2296.3 μmol g−1 h−1) and high selectivity of imines (>99%) as well as good stability without using any solvent under light irradiation. This work not only paves a facile route to promote exciton dissociation and charge separation but also provides a novel catalyst for the photocatalytic H2 evolution integrated with selective amine oxidation.
