Recognition of facial expression is a challenge when it comes to computer vision. The primary reasons are class imbalance due to data collection and uncertainty due to inherent noise such as fuzzy facial expressions and inconsistent labels. However, current research has focused either on the problem of class imbalance or on the problem of uncertainty, ignoring the intersection of how to address these two problems. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a framework based on Resnet and Attention to solve the above problems. We design weight for each class. Through the penalty mechanism, our model will pay more attention to the learning of small samples during training, and the resulting decrease in model accuracy can be improved by a Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM). Meanwhile, our backbone network will also learn an uncertain feature for each sample. By mixing uncertain features between samples, the model can better learn those features that can be used for classification, thus suppressing uncertainty. Experiments show that our method surpasses most basic methods in terms of accuracy on facial expression data sets (e.g., AffectNet, RAF-DB), and it also solves the problem of class imbalance well.

We report a combined study of transport and thermodynamic measurements on the layered pnictide material SrAg4As2. Upon cooling, a drop in electrical and Hall resistivity, a jump in heat capacity and an increase in susceptibility and magnetoresistance (MR) are observed around 110 K. These observations suggest that non-magnetic phase transitions emerge at around 110 K, that are likely associated with structural distortions. In sharp contrast with the first-principles calculations based on the crystal structure at room temperature, quantum oscillations reveal small Fermi pockets with light effective masses, suggesting a significant change in the Fermi surface topology caused by the low temperature structural distortion. No superconductivity emerges in SrAg$_4$As$_2$ down to 2 K and under pressures up to 2.13 GPa; instead, the low temperature structural distortion increases linearly with temperature at a rate of ~13 K/GPa above 0.89 GPa.

A series of f-block chromates, CsM(CrO$_4$)$_2$ (M = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu; Am), were prepared revealing notable differences between the AmIII derivatives and their lanthanide analogs. While all compounds form similar layered structures, the americium compound exhibits polymorphism and adopts both a structure isomorphous with the early lanthanides as well as one that possesses lower symmetry. Both polymorphs are dark red and possess band gaps that are smaller than the LnIII compounds. In order to probe the origin of these differences, the electronic structure of $\alpha$-CsSm(CrO$_4$)$_2$, $\alpha$-CsEu(CrO$_4$)$_2$ and $\alpha$-CsAm(CrO$_4$)$_2$ were studied using both a molecular cluster approach featuring hybrid density functional theory and QTAIM analysis, and by the periodic LDA+GA and LDA+DMFT methods. Notably, the covalent contributions to bonding by the f orbitals was found to be more than twice as large in the AmIII chromate than in the SmIII and EuIII compounds, and even larger in magnitude than the Am-5f spin-orbit splitting in this system. Our analysis indicates also that the Am-O covalency in $\alpha$-CsAm(CrO$_4$)$_2$ is driven by the degeneracy of the 5f and 2p orbitals, and not by orbital overlap.

Physical properties of multi-orbital materials depend not only on the strength of the effective interactions among the valence electrons but also on their type. Strong correlations are caused by either Mott physics that captures the Coulomb repulsion among charges, or Hund physics that aligns the spins in different orbitals. We identify four energy scales marking the onset and the completion of screening in orbital and spin channels. The differences in these scales, which are manifest in the temperature dependence of the local spectrum and of the charge, spin and orbital susceptibilities, provide clear signatures distinguishing Mott and Hund physics. Topological semimetals are characterized by protected crossings between conduction and valence bands. These materials have recently attracted significant interest because of the deep connections to high-energy physics, the novel topological surface states, and the unusual transport phenomena. While Dirac and Weyl semimetals have been extensively studied, the nodal-line semimetal remains largely unexplored due to the lack of an ideal material platform. In this paper, we report the magneto-transport properties of two nodal-line semimetal candidates CaAgAs and CaCdGe. First, our single crystalline CaAgAs supports the first "hydrogen atom" nodal-line semimetal, where only the topological nodal-line is present at the Fermi level. Second, our CaCdGe sample provides an ideal platform to perform comparative studies because it features the same topological nodal line but has a more complicated Fermiology with irrelevant Fermi pockets. As a result, the magnetoresistance of our CaCdGe sample is more than 100 times larger than that of CaAgAs. Through our systematic magneto-transport and first-principles band structure calculations, we show that our CaTX compounds can be used to study, isolate, and control the novel topological nodal-line physics in real materials.

We report on the emergence of robust superconducting order in single crystal alloys of 2H-TaSe$_{2-x}$S$_{x}$ (0$\leq$x$\leq$2) . The critical temperature of the alloy is surprisingly higher than that of the two end compounds TaSe$_{2}$ and TaS$_{2}$. The evolution of superconducting critical temperature T$_{c} (x)$ correlates with the full width at half maximum of the Bragg peaks and with the linear term of the high temperature resistivity. The conductivity of the crystals near the middle of the alloy series is higher or similar than that of either one of the end members 2H-TaSe$_{2}$ and/or 2H-TaS$_{2}$. It is known that in these materials superconductivity (SC) is in close competition with charge density wave (CDW) order. We derive an exact operatorial reformulation of the rotational invariant slave boson method and we apply it to describe the orbital differentiation in strongly correlated electron systems starting from first principles. The approach enables us to treat strong electron correlations, spin-orbit coupling and crystal field splittings on the same footing by exploiting the gauge invariance of the mean-field equations. We apply our theory to the archetypical nuclear fuel UO$_2$, and show that the ground state of this system displays a pronounced orbital differention within the $5f$ manifold, with Mott localized $\Gamma_8$ and extended $\Gamma_7$ electrons., Comment: Accepted for publication in Physical Review Letters (5 pages, 1 figure)

We report transverse and longitudinal magneto-transport properties of NbAs2 single crystals. Attributing to the electron-hole compensation, non-saturating large transverse magnetoresistance reaches up to 8000 at 9 T at 1.8 K with mobility around 1 to 2 m^2V^-1S^-1. We present a thorough study of angular-dependent Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) quantum oscillations of NbAs2. Three distinct oscillation frequencies are identified. First-principles calculations reveal four types of Fermi pockets: electron alpha pocket, hole beta pocket, hole gamma pocket and small electron delta pocket. Although the angular dependence of alpha, beta and delta agree well with the SdH data, it is unclear why the gamma pocket is missing in SdH. Negative longitudinal magnetoresistance is observed which may be linked to novel topological states in this material, although systematic study is necessary to ascertain its origin., Comment: 5 pages. We present the TRIQS/DFTTools package, an application based on the TRIQS library that connects this toolbox to realistic materials calculations based on density functional theory (DFT). In particular, TRIQS/DFTTools together with TRIQS allows an efficient implementation of DFT plus dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) calculations. It supplies tools and methods to construct Wannier functions and to perform the DMFT self-consistency cycle in this basis set. Post-processing tools, such as band-structure plotting or the calculation of transport properties are also implemented. The package comes with a fully charge self-consistent interface to the Wien2k band structure code, as well as a generic interface that allows to use TRIQS/DFTTools together with a large variety of DFT codes. We develop a variational scheme called "Gutzwiller renormalization group" (GRG), which enables us to calculate the ground state of Anderson impurity models (AIM) with arbitrary numerical precision. Our method can exploit the low-entanglement property of the ground state in combination with the framework of the Gutzwiller wavefunction, and suggests that the ground state of the AIM has a very simple structure, which can be represented very accurately in terms of a surprisingly small number of variational parameters. We perform benchmark calculations of the single-band AIM that validate our theory and indicate that the GRG might enable us to study complex systems beyond the reach of the other methods presently available and pave the way to interesting generalizations, e.g., to nonequilibrium transport in nanostructures., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures

We develop an extension of the Gutzwiller approximation to finite temperatures based on the Dirac-Frenkel variational principle. Our method does not rely on any entropy inequality, and is substantially more accurate than the approaches proposed in previous works. We apply our theory to the single-band Hubbard model at different fillings, and show that our results compare quantitatively well with dynamical mean field theory in the metallic phase. We present a systematical theoretical study on the transport properties of an archetypal family of Hund's metals, Sr$_2$RuO$_4$,Sr$_3$Ru$_2$O$_7$, SrRuO$_3$ and CaRuO$_3$, within the combination of first principles density functional theory and dynamical mean field theory. The agreement between theory and experiments for optical conductivity and resistivity is good, which indicates that electron-electron scattering dominates the transport of ruthenates. We demonstrate that in the single-site dynamical mean field approach the transport properties of Hund's metals fall into the scenario of "resilient quasiparticles". We explains why the single layered compound Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ has a relative weak correlation with respect to its siblings, which corroborates its good metallicity., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures
