Abstract

Using a reported pharmacophore, 4-[N,N-bis(2-chloroethyl)-amino]phenol, and pentacyclic triterpenes, pharmacologically and structurally diverse components of natural products, six pentacyclic triterpene-4-[N,N-bis(2-chloroethyl)-amino]phenol conjugates were synthesized by click chemistry. Their cytotoxicities against the BEL-7404 and NCI-H460 tumor cell lines were evaluated by the MTT assay. The in vitro results from the cytotoxicity assay indicated that at a compound concentration of 20 μM, these conjugates showed low toxicity (< 16%) toward the tested tumor cells in culture.

Abstract

The reactions of mangiferin (H-MF) with Cu(II) and Zn(II) yielded [Cu(MF)(OH)(H2O)]x5H2O and [Zn(MF)(OH)(H2O)]x4H2O. The MTT assay against four tumour cell lines revealed that the Cu complex generally showed higher in vitro cytotoxicity vs. free H-MF than the Zn complex, which may be due to the different bioactivities of Cu(II) and Zn(II). DNA binding studies of both complexes vs. H-MF indicated that they tended to bind intercalatively with DNA. Both complexes also exhibited topoisomerase I inhibition at 100 μM, which could be due to their DNA binding affinities.

Abstract

Two new coumarins 7-O-(6-O-(5-O-3,4,5-tri-methoxycinnamate-β-d-apiofuranosyl-β-d-glucopyranosyl)-6-methoxy coumarin (1) and 7-O-(6-O-(4-(2-hydroxy-1-hydroxymethyl-ethoxy)-3-methoxy-cinnamyl)-β-d-glucopyranosyl)-6-methoxy coumarin (2), along with 10 known metabolites, were isolated from the bark ofStreblus indicus, their structures were identified by comparison of experimental and published spectroscopic data. (S)-marmesinin (6) and scoparone (7) exhibited moderate antimicrobial activityin vitroagainstStaphylococcus aureusstrain with the MIC values of 62.5 and 125.0 μg/mL, respectively. 20. A new chromone from the twig of Mallotus apelta.

Abstract

A new chromone, 7-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-8-methoxy-4-oxo-4H-chromene-6-carboxylic acid, named melachromone, along with 13 known compounds (2–14), including chromones, flavonoids, coumarins and phenylpropane derivatives, were isolated from the twig of Mallotus apelta. Their chemical structures were elucidated by using various spectroscopic methods. Anti-tumour evaluation of the compounds suggested that compound 1 exhibited medium cytotoxic activity against KB and HeLa Cells, with IC50 values of 9.50 and 9.23 μg mL− 1, respectively.
