Abstract Background The short form of the Dentin Hypersensitivity Experience Questionnaire (DHEQ-15) is a valid and reliable tool for Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) studies. The aim of this study was cross-culturally adapt and validate the English version of DHEQ-15 for the Turkish language. Methods The Turkish version of the DHEQ-15 was developed using the forward-backward translation method. Two independent translators translated it from English to Turkish, followed by back-translation into English. A pilot study was conducted with 30 patients with dentin hypersensitivity (DH). The sample consisted of 150 individuals with DH and 150 without. DH was assessed using the Schiff Sensitivity Scale by applying air to the cervical area of the tooth for 1 s from a distance of 1 cm. A total of 300 individuals completed the Turkish DHEQ-15 in the waiting room. Subsequently, 30 randomly selected individuals with DH completed the questionnaire again after 7–10 days to assess test-retest reliability. Participants provided an overall oral health rating assessment on a 6-point scale. The reliability of the DHEQ-15 was assessed using internal consistency and test-retest methods. Due to the multiple factors contributing to dentin demineralization and hypersensitivity among individuals, the effectiveness of the available treatments in the long term remains unclear. A recent study reported a simple strategy to potentially mimic natural remineralization with increased crystallization on the enamel caries using fluoride iontophoresis. Such an effect is also ideal for accomplishing dentin biomineralization and structural strength. This study aimed to investigate structural and compositional characteristics and permeability changes after fluoride iontophoresis with different polarities, cathodal iontophoresis (CIP), anodal iontophoresis (AIP), and the control without iontophoresis for the treatment of etched dentin under simulated pulpal pressure. The 24 premolars were divided into 3 groups: CIP, AIP, and topical application of 5% sodium fluoride (NaF) for 40 s. Relative to before treatment, iontophoresis with both polarities significantly decreased the permeability with a visible increase in occluding tubules containing crystal formation and growth throughout the dentin structure and depth. The CIP not only restored the etched dentin surface into a sound condition but also reinforced the dentin across the structure and depth by the synergistic effects of remineralization, increasing crystal formation and transformation toward the more crystalline structure of fluorohydroxyapatite. Following topical treatment, X-ray diffraction analysis and Raman spectra revealed a significant reduction in the crystal size and crystallinity associated with the raised B-type carbonate substitution into the hydroxyapatite compared with that in the sound dentin. The result was the first to reveal the ideal strategy to rapidly restore the etched dentin surface into a sound condition, including reinforcing the dentin across the structure and depth by the synergistic effects of decreasing permeability, increasing crystal formation, and transformation toward the more crystalline structure of fluorohydroxyapatite using the 5% NaF applied with the DC cathode iontophoresis. Dentine hypersensitivity is characterized by a short sharp pain arising from exposed dentine in response to thermal, evaporative, tactile, osmotic or chemical stimuli that cannot be ascribed to any other form of dental defect. Today, multiple desensitizing toothpastes that claim superiority over each other in reducing dentin hypersensitivity are commercially available. The present study was undertaken to evaluate and compare the efficacy of three commercially available desensitizing toothpastes in reducing dentine hypersensitivity (herbal desensitizing toothpaste, desensitizing toothpaste and desensitizing toothpaste containing 8% arginine). Total of 45 participants were recruited equally into 3 groups (Group 1: Herbal desensitizing toothpaste; Group 2: Desensitizing paste containing potassium salt; Group 3: Desensitizing toothpaste containing 8% Arginine) by a simple random sampling method. Dentine hypersensitivity was evaluated at the baseline, immediately, at 4th week and 8th week after using the assigned toothpaste. Dentine hypersensitivity was evaluated using the Schiff sensitivity score. In this study, the efficacy of desensitizing toothpaste within group 1 at different time intervals was found to be statistically significant (p=0.004). Comparison of the efficacy of desensitizing toothpaste within group 2 and group 3 at different time intervals was found to be statistically highly significant (p=0.000). However, the comparison of the efficacy of desensitizing toothpaste between 3 groups at baseline (p=0.659), immediately (p=0.366), at the 4th week (p=0.388) and the 8th week (p=0.583) was found to be statistically nonsignificant. The present study can be useful, as it is important to assess the efficacy of various commercially available desensitizing toothpastes, since the use of desensitizing toothpastes is considered to be the primary strategy in the management of non-carious dentinal exposure causing dentinal hypersensitivity. Aim: Although dentine hypersensitivity is widespread, can cause substantial pain and impact quality of life, it is not routinely discussed during dental consultations. This qualitative study aimed to develop an understanding of the barriers and facilitators to these discussions. Materials and Methods: Using the Theoretical Domains Framework to shape the topic guide, N = 7 online focus groups were organized with a total N = 40 participants comprising experienced dentists, dental foundation trainees and dental care professionals. Inductive and deductive thematic analyses of the anonymized, transcribed focus group conversations were undertaken. Results: An attitude–behaviour gap was observed in dental teams' accounts. Although they saw it as part of their professional role to routinely discuss sensitivity, and believed that such conversations were 'an easy win', in practice they experienced several behavioural barriers that hindered these conversations from taking place. These included competing priorities, a perceived lack of seriousness and assessment of dentine hypersensitivity and practical issues such as time. Conclusions: Systemic (e.g., lack of time and training, professional culture) and behavioural (e.g., dental teams' belief that conversations should take place only with patients likely to be adherent) barriers to dentine hypersensitivity conversations explain why these conversations do not routinely take place. Introduction: Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a prevalent unpleasant condition which might affect quality of life. Laser therapy is one of the non-invasive treatments for dentin hypersensitivity. The aim of this umbrella review was to assess the effect of lasers on the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity by analyzing the previously published systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Methods: Electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane, and ISI) were searched to identify relevant systematic reviews and meta-analyses based on the keyword search strategy. Two independent reviewers carried out the selection of studies, extraction of data, and assessment of methodological quality. The actual overlap of primary studies was measured through the visual tool known as the citation matrix and three indices of % overlaps, covered area (CA), and corrected covered area (CCA). The reviews were appraised for methodological quality through A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR)-2, and the risk of bias was evaluated using the Risk of Bias in Systematic Reviews (ROBIS) tool. Results: Following eliminating duplicates, a total of 2,768 articles were found, and of them, 9 systematic reviews met the inclusion criteria. Six of them included a meta-analysis as well. The actual overlap of primary studies was low. The AMSTAR 2 tool classified one systematic review as high quality, three as moderate quality, three as low quality, and the remaining two as critically low quality. The results of the included reviews generally showed that all types of lasers reduced dentin hypersensitivity compared to placebo/no treatment. Background: The objective of this research is to examine the connection between gingival recession, dentine hypersensitivity and conducted orthodontic therapy in young adults. Materials and methods: The research is conducted on 50 healthy, young subjects. The subjects received consent forms for participation in the research. In their anamnesis, the subjects provided information about their general health, oral hygiene habits, completed orthodontic therapy and gingival recessions on the buccal side of all teeth were documented by the clinical gingival examination. In the case of the presence of dental plaque, initial periodontal therapy was conducted. After documenting gingival recession on each tooth with a recession on the vestibular side, an examination of dentine hypersensitivity was conducted using an air blast from a distance of around 2 cm. All obtained data were documented in the work chart especially designed for this research. Results: Of 1400 examined teeth, 946 teeth were with no gingival recessions present, and 454 teeth were with gingival recessions present. Out of that number, 186 (41%) were with dentine hypersensitivity, whereas in the group with no gingival recessions present, dentine hypersensitivity was recorded only in 12 teeth (1.3%). In patients that were orthodontic patients out of the total number of teeth (644), a gingival recession was noticed in only 209 teeth. Conclusion: The occurrence of gingival recessions is connected to the occurrence of dentine hypersensitivity. Orthodontic therapy is listed as a factor in the occurrence of gingival recessions, but many other factors should be taken into consideration. Still, there is not enough evidence that would suggest that one method of brushing teeth or a type of toothbrush is more effective than the other in the prevention of the occurrence of gingival recessions. Results: The average age of the population was 35.6 years. In the present study, a total of 12,048 teeth were analyzed. 1755 had thermal hypersensitivity (14.57%), while 470 experienced evaporative hypersensitivity (3.9%). The incisors were the teeth most impacted by DH, whereas the molars were the least affected. Exposure to cold air and sweet foods, gingival recession, and the presence of noncarious cervical lesions were all strongly linked to DH (Logistic regression analysis, p < 0.05). The cold stimulus increases sensitivity more than the evaporation stimulus. Conclusion: Significant risk factors for both thermal and evaporative DH include cold air, consumption of sweet food, presence of noncarious cervical lesions, and gingival recession. More epidemiological research in this area is still required to fully characterize the risk factors and implement the most effective preventive interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study examined the occlusion effect of a dentifrice containing stannous fluoride (SnF2) and sodium fluoride (NaF) on periodontally involved teeth in comparison with healthy teeth using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in comparison with a dentifrice containing NaF alone. Methods: Sixty dentine samples obtained from single-rooted premolars, 15 of them extracted for orthodontic reasons (Group H) and 15 because of periodontal destruction (Group P), were included in the study. Each group of specimens was further divided into subgroups: HC and PC (control), H1 and P1 (treated with SnF2 and NaF), and H2 and P2 (treated with NaF). The samples were brushed twice a day for 7 days, kept in artificial saliva, and examined by SEM. The diameters of open tubules and the numbers of tubules were assessed at ×2,000 magnification. Results: The H and P groups showed similar diameters of open tubules. The numbers of open tubules in Groups H1, P1, H2, and P2 were significantly lower than in Groups HC and PC (P < 0.001), and consistent with the percentages of occluded tubules. Group P1 had the highest percentage of occluded tubules. Conclusions: Although both dentifrices were found to successfully occlude dentinal tubules, the dentifrice containing SnF2 and NaF provided the highest degree of occlusion in periodontally involved teeth. Purpose: To compare the efficacy of a 2.5% w/w smaller particle-size (ca 4 µm) calcium sodium phosphosilicate (CSPS) dentifrice (test) to an occluding dentifrice (8% w/w arginine) (comparator) and a negative control dentifrice in an 8-week, randomised, controlled, parallel-group, stratified (maximum baseline Schiff sensitivity score) study in adults with dentin hypersensitivity.Materials and Methods: The sensitivity of two selected teeth was assessed at baseline and after 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks in response to evaporative (air) (Schiff sensitivity score and visual analogue scale [VAS]) and tactile (tactile threshold) stimuli.Results: Of 151 randomised subjects, 147 completed the study. Statistically significant changes from baseline were reported for test and comparator dentifrices at all weeks on all measures (p < 0.05) with no statistically significant differences between them. The negative control dentifrice group was statistically significantly different from baseline in all measures by week 8 (p < 0.05). Test and comparator dentifrices demonstrated statistically significantly greater improvements in Schiff sensitivity from week 2 compared to the negative control (p < 0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in favour only of the comparator dentifrice over the negative control at week 8 when examining tactile threshold (p = 0.0435) and at week 4 with VAS (p = 0.0425), with no other between-group differences. The dentifrices were generally well tolerated.Conclusion: No statistically significant differences were found between a small particle size 2.5% w/w CSPS dentifrice and an 8% w/w arginine dentifrice in terms of a dentine hypersensitivity decrease. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the dentinal tubule occlusion using nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HAP) containing toothpaste and mouthwash under a scanning electron microscope. The specimens were randomly divided into two groups with five specimens each: group 1—toothpaste group and group 2—mouthwash group. The percentage of the occluded dentinal tubules was assessed at the baseline, 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th days under a scanning electron microscope. The toothpaste group showed a higher percentage of occluded dentinal tubules as compared to the mouthwash group at the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th days, respectively. It can be concluded that brushing twice daily with n-HAP containing toothpaste for duration of 28 days produced good dentinal tubule occlusion.

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of a hydroxyapatite toothpaste containing a Polyol Germanium Complex with threonine in treating dentine hypersensitivity. The study also seeks to monitor the quality of life of the treated dentine hypersensitivity sufferers. Materials and methods: This study is a randomized clinical trial with a total of 120 patients with dentine hypersensitivity. All participants were divided into three groups: patients assigned to the GARDA SILK toothpaste; patients receiving the conventional fluoride toothpaste for comparison purposes, and patients asked to brush their teeth without toothpaste. The modified Quigley-Heine Plaque Index was assessed at the baseline and after treatment. Sensitivity was assessed at baseline, 3, 7 and 14 days using the air stimulus (Schiff Index). The impact of dentine hypersensitivity on the quality of life was assessed before and after the treatment with the Russian version of the Dentine Hypersensitivity Experience Questionnaire (DHEQ). Results: After 14 days of treatment, the mean Plaque Index scores in Groups 1 and 2 did not exceed 1 and averaged 0.72 ± 0.249 and 0.86 ± 0.213, respectively. The literature was searched using combinations of the following medical subject heading (MeSH) terms and keywords: (laser OR phototherapy OR Er,Cr:YSGG laser) AND (dentine hypersensitivity OR dentine sensitivity OR dental sensitivity).Results: A total of 486 studies were found, of which 7 randomized controlled trials were included in the review. The Er,Cr:YSGG laser wavelengths, power density and duration of irradiation used in the studies were 2780 nanometers, 0.25– 0.5 watts and 20– 60 seconds, respectively. The follow-up assessments were conducted ranging from immediately to 3 months after treatment. All studies showed that the Er,Cr:YSGG laser was effective in alleviating DH.Conclusion: This systematic review suggests that the application of an Er,Cr:YSSG laser is effective in alleviating DH and may have limited adverse effects if adequate parameters are followed.Keywords: phototherapy, dentine hypersensitivity, dentine sensitivity, Er,Cr:YSGG laser

Objective: The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to compare the efficacy of a toothpaste containing paeonol, potassium nitrate, and strontium chloride with control toothpaste on dentine hypersensitivity (DH). Methods: DH patients who had at least two sensitive teeth and did not use desensitization toothpaste in the past 3 months were randomly allocated to either test or control group. The toothpaste containing paeonol, potassium nitrate, and strontium chloride was used in the test group, while the placebo toothpaste used in control group. The outcome measures included Yeaple probe score and Schiff Index score at 4 and 8 weeks. The patients, personnel and assessors were blinded to the allocation. The differences in Yeaple probe score and Schiff Index score between groups were analyzed with ANOVA. Results: 91 eligible subjects were randomized. 88 of them completed 8-week follow-up and were analyzed (45 in the test group and 43 in the control group). In both groups, the Yeaple probe score showed an upward trend, while the Schiff sensitivity score showed a downward trend. At week 8, the Yeaple probe score had increased by 30.22 g in the test group, and the Schiff Index score had decreased by 0.89. Compared with the control group, the Yeaple probe score in the test group increased by 286.85% from baseline, and the Schiff Index score decreased by 42.96%, showing a statistically significant difference. Five cases of adverse events were observed. Conclusion: The toothpaste containing paeonol, potassium nitrate, and strontium chloride was effective against DH. Clinical significance: This combination of paeonol, potassium nitrate and strontium chloride could be a novel functional ingredient choice for anti-hypersensitivity products in future. INTRODUCTION: Investigation of dentine microstructure in-vitro using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) allows comparing effects of various treatment methods of dentine hypersensitivity (DH). OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the microstructure of dentine in-vitro after application of fluoride varnish, low-level laser (LLL) (810 nm) irradiation, ethanolic extract of propolis (EEP) application, and joint LLL (810 nm) irradiation and EEP application using SEM. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 32 specimens of permanent teeth were divided into four groups. Samples of the first group were treated with fluoride varnish, second group with EEP, third group with LLL (810 nm) irradiation, and fourth 4 group with joint LLL (810 nm) irradiation with EEP application. Four samples were taken from all groups and immersed in 6% citric acid. From each of the four groups, 4 other samples were placed in oral fluid for a week, and were brushed twice a day with a soft toothbrush. Then, samples were studied by the SEM. RESULTS: The utilization of fluoride varnish as well as EEP on the surface of the exposed dentine promotes formation of acid-resistant film. After using LLL irradiation, dentine tubules with a double structure were found. After joint use of EEP and LLL irradiation, the entrances of dentinal tubules were completely blocked, and only singleopened entrances to the dentinal tubules were identified. CONCLUSIONS: The joint usage of EEP and LLL irradiation provides the highest permeability of components to the dentinal tubules, which was proved by the results of SEM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Dentine hypersensitivity is an annoying worldwide disease, yet its mechanism remains unclear. The long-used hydrodynamic theory, a stimuli-induced fluid-flow process, describes the pain processes. However, no experimental evidence supports the statements. Here, we demonstrate that stimuli-induced directional cation transport, rather than fluid-flow, through dentinal tubules actually leads to dentine hypersensitivity. The in vitro/in vivo electro-chemical and electro-neurophysiological approaches reveal the cation current through the nanoconfined negatively charged dentinal tubules coming from external stimuli (pressure, pH, and temperature) on dentin surface and further triggering the nerve impulses causing the dentine hypersensitivity. Furthermore, the cationic-hydrogels blocked dentinal tubules could significantly reduce the stimuli-triggered nerve action potentials and the anion-hydrogels counterpart enhances those, supporting the cation-flow transducing dentine hypersensitivity. Therefore, the inspired ion-blocking desensitizing therapies have achieved remarkable pain relief in clinical applications. The proposed mechanism would enrich the basic knowledge of dentistry and further foster breakthrough initiatives in hypersensitivity mitigation and cure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Associations between the occurrence of dentine hypersensitivity (DH) and dental fluorosis (DF) have been suggested. Testing this association requires studies among populations with both conditions. This study aimed to determine the association between DF and the experience of DH among a population endemic for DF. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in 2021 over 6 months among 428 adult patients. Participants' demographics were collected, followed by verbal screening for DH and oral examinations. Clinical assessment for DH was carried out by tactile and evaporative methods. The presence and severity of DF were also assessed using the Thylstrup and Fejerskov Index. Data analysis included Chi-square and correlation statistics to assess the presence and strength of associations. Results: The overall prevalence of DH was 31.1%. A higher proportion (41.1%, P < 0.001) of participants with DF had DH than those without DF. The association between DH and DF was minimal but statistically significant (r = 0.174, P < 0.001). Among those with DF, the prevalence of DH was highest in participants with severe fluorosis (50%, P = 0.740). The proportion of sensitive teeth to the teeth examined was significantly higher (P < 0.0001) for participants with DF (289/4167, 6.9%) than participants without DF (267/6758, 4%). This proportion was also highest for severe DF (20/254, 7.9%, P = 0.572) than the mild and moderate forms. Conclusion: DH was more prevalent among individuals with DF. The prevalence of DH was not dependent on the severity of DF.

The dentine occluding effects, antibacterial activity and cytocompatibility of the Si/Ca(Sr)-NCF mats were evaluated.Methods: The Si/Ca(Sr)-NCF mats were fabricated by dipping the electrospun nano cellulose fiber (NCF) into silica and calcium (strontium) carbonate liquid. Physicochemical characterizations and ion release were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), ion release assays and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Sixty dentine discs were randomly divided into five groups: 1, blank NCF; 2, Si/Ca(Sr 0)-NCF; 3, Si/Ca(Sr 0.01)-NCF; 4, Si/Ca(Sr 0.05)-NCF; 5, Si/Ca(Sr 0.1)-NCF. Dentine discs were mineralized by the mats and observed with SEM immediately, after acid challenge and remineralized in artificial saliva. The releasing liquid was investigated by TEM and type I collagen model. Then, antibacterial property and cytocompatibility were evaluated.Results: SEM and TEM results confirmed that the experiment mats continuously released amorphous Si/Ca(Sr) NPs and consequently realized anti-acid dentine biomimetic remineralization. Homogeneous surface coverage and collagen intrafibrillar mineralization in strontium adding groups illustrated the mineralization effect was not only by in site precipitation, but also collagen heterogeneous nucleation. Additionally, acceptable antibacterial and cytocompatibility properties were illustrated in low and middle Sr2+ containing mats.Conclusion: In vitro studies on human dentine discs and type I collagen demonstrated that Si/Ca(Sr)–NCF system was a multifunction system inducing anti-acid, biomimetic, antibacterial and cytocompatible dentine remineralization. Abstract Background Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a sharp toothache that influences a patients' oral health-related quality of life. Oral dentifrices have been marketed for pain relief within a minute for DH. The permanent management of DH is being investigated with the remineralisation potential of bioactive agents in dentinal tubules. This study investigated the relief from pain in DH in one minute after applying over the counter (OTC) dentifrices with Pro-Argin™ and strontium acetate and directly compared them with fluoro-calcium phospho-silicate (FCPS)-based dentifrices for immediate and sustained inhibition of painful stimulus provoking DH. Methods A randomised, controlled, triple-blinded clinical trial was conducted with 140 participants clinically diagnosed with DH and equally randomized into four groups with parallel treatment assignment of FCPS, Pro-Argin™, 8% strontium acetate, and sodium fluoride-based OTC dentifrices, and tested for DH with air blast, mechanical, and water jet stimuli on SCHIFF cold air sensitivity scale (SCASS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) at interim efficacy intervals of one minute, three days, two, four, and six weeks, subsequently. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate and compare the dentinal tubule occlusion using nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HAP) containing toothpaste and mouthwash under a scanning electron microscope. The specimens were randomly divided into two groups with five specimens each: group 1--toothpaste group and group 2--mouthwash group. The percentage of the occluded dentinal tubules was assessed at the baseline, 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th days under a scanning electron microscope. The toothpaste group showed a higher percentage of occluded dentinal tubules as compared to the mouthwash group at the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th days, respectively. Objectives: Many patients who suffer from Dentine Hypersensitivity (DH) often go undiagnosed because they do not consider DH as serious problem that requires treatment. The use of patient‐reported outcome measures can help in diagnosis and management of DH problems. The aim of the present study was to adapt cross‐culturally the original English version of the Dentine Hypersensitivity Experience Questionnaire (DHEQ‐15) for use in Arabic‐speaking countries. Methods: An Arabic version of DHEQ‐15 was first developed by forward‐backward translation and piloted among a group of dental patients. A cross‐sectional study design was then used to test the psychometric properties of the Arabic DHEQ‐15 in a wider convenience sample of Libyan dental patients diagnosed with DH. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the three‐dimensional distribution of the subscales. The significance level of all statistical tests was set at p ≤ 0.05. Results: The Arabic DHEQ‐15 demonstrated good face and content validity. A total of 462 participants aged, on average, 39.2 ± 12.9 years took part in the psychometric testing of the Arabic DHEQ‐15. The overall Cronbach's alpha of the questionnaire was 0.91, and overall Interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for test‐retest repeatability was 0.914. Participants with more severe DH had a significantly higher DHEQ‐15 score than those with less severe DH (p < 0.001). Those who reported better global rating of their oral health had lower scores on the Arabic DHEQ‐15 (p < 0.001). Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed three subscales of the Arabic DHEQ‐15. Conclusions: The Arabic DHEQ‐15 has been developed and further testing has demonstrated acceptable levels of psychometric properties in an Arabic population. (1) Background: Dentine Hypersensitivity (DH) is a frequent clinical problem that causes long-term painful discomfort to patients and is a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for dentists. The aim of this research was to verify the efficacy of a Sodium Fluoride (NaF) gel and the VivaSens® varnish used alone or in combination with a Creation Soft Diode Laser (DL) to treat DH pain. (2) Methods: The study included 121 Non-Carious Cervical Lesions (NCCLs) in 48 patients who complained of DH pain of variable intensity, between 4 and 7 points in VAS, after application of a cold stimulus. Four study groups of 12 patients each were created and subjected to four different types of treatment. Group 1 comprised 27 NCCLs with a total VAS score of 142, who received a topical treatment of NaF. Group 2 comprised 34 NCCLs with a total VAS score of 179, who were treated with NaF in association with DL. Group 3 comprised 31 NCCLs with a total VAS score 172, who received the VivaSens varnish. Group 4 comprised 29 NCCLS with a total VAS score of 155, who were treated with VivaSens in association with DL, using a power of 0.2 Watt in continuous emission and a fiber of 400 µm diameter. (3) Results: The results for each NCCL were evaluated by the cold stimulus response and recorded according to the VAS at the end of each treatment (t1) as well as after one week (t2), 1 month (t3), and 6 months (t4). All treatments resulted in pain relief at all study times, but the best results were obtained for Group 4 at t1, with a total VAS score of 26, and for Group 2 at t2, t3, and t4, with total VAS scores of 41, 51, and 65, respectively. This study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of a hydroxyapatite toothpaste containing a Polyol Germanium Complex with threonine in treating dentine hypersensitivity. The study also seeks to monitor the quality of life of the treated dentine hypersensitivity sufferers. This study is a randomized clinical trial with a total of 120 patients with dentine hypersensitivity. All participants were divided into three groups: patients assigned to the GARDA SILK toothpaste; patients receiving the conventional fluoride toothpaste for comparison purposes, and patients asked to brush their teeth without toothpaste. The modified Quigley-Heine Plaque Index was assessed at the baseline and after treatment. Sensitivity was assessed at baseline, 3, 7 and 14 days using the air stimulus (Schiff Index). The impact of dentine hypersensitivity on the quality of life was assessed before and after the treatment with the Russian version of the Dentine Hypersensitivity Experience Questionnaire (DHEQ). After 14 days of treatment, the mean Plaque Index scores in Groups 1 and 2 did not exceed 1 and averaged 0.72 ± 0.249 and 0.86 ± 0.213, respectively. In Group 3, the mean Plaque Index was significantly higher (1.04 ± 0.070, p < 0.05). The mean Schiff sensitivity scores in Group 1 decreased to 2.45 ± 0.42 at 3 days, 1.84 ± 0.26 at 7 days, and 1.02 ± 0.34 at 14 days. Group 2 exhibited smaller reductions in the Schiff index at all time points. In this group, Schiff scores dropped to 2.67 ± 0.28 after 3 days, 2.34 ± 0.44 after 7 days, and 1.93 ± 0.36 after 14 days. Objectives: Associations between the occurrence of dentine hypersensitivity (DH) and dental fluorosis (DF) have been suggested. Testing this association requires studies among populations with both conditions. This study aimed to determine the association between DF and the experience of DH among a population endemic for DF. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in 2021 over 6 months among 428 adult patients. Participants' demographics were collected, followed by verbal screening for DH and oral examinations. Clinical assessment for DH was carried out by tactile and evaporative methods. The presence and severity of DF were also assessed using the Thylstrup and Fejerskov Index. Data analysis included Chi-square and correlation statistics to assess the presence and strength of associations. Results: The overall prevalence of DH was 31.1%. A higher proportion (41.1%, P < 0.001) of participants with DF had DH than those without DF. The association between DH and DF was minimal but statistically significant (r = 0.174, P < 0.001). Among those with DF, the prevalence of DH was highest in participants with severe fluorosis (50%, P = 0.740). Conventional therapies have aimed to try to help individuals suffering with dentine hypersensitivity (DH/DHS). A relatively new approach, laser therapy claims to be beneficial while having immediate and long-lasting effect. Therefore, our analysis aims to explore the immediate and 1-month efficacy of near-infrared laser (NIR) therapy in treating dentinal hypersensitivity. A systematic literature search conducted in databases, and analysis was undertaken utilizing a meta-analysis approach. Randomized controlled clinical trials comparing near-infrared lasers and placebo/no treatment in patients (> 18 years) were included. The risk of bias for included studies was assessed using Cochrane RoB tool (for randomized studies). Random effects meta-analyses model of standardized mean differences and 95% confidence intervals were performed using RevMan 5.4 software. A comprehensive electronic and manual search yielded a total of 1081 potential articles. Following the implementation of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 6 studies were included in the analysis. Near-infrared laser therapy led to statistical significant reduction in immediate and 1-month follow-up VAS (visual analog scale) scores compared to placebo/no treatment (p < 0.05). Statistical heterogeneity across the studies was high (I2-96%). The findings suggest that near-infrared laser therapy does have a significant immediate effect in reducing dentine hypersensitivity compared to placebo/no treatment. One of the causes of dentine hypersensitivity is the presence of various periodontal diseases in patients. In order to obtain long-term results in reducing the level of pain in hypersensitivity of the teeth, it is necessary to optimize existing treatments. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment of dentine hypersensitivity in patients with generalized periodontitis of chronic course with the combined use of low-intensity laser therapy and propolis tincture. Object and methods. The study involved 104 patients with dentine hypersensitivity and generalized periodontitis of chronic course. In group 1, treatment was performed using a varnish based on sodium fluoride, in 2 – propolis tincture, in 3 – low-intensity laser therapy, in group 4 – using a combined use of propolis tincture and low-intensity laser therapy. To assess the severity of used the method of pulp testing. Indicators of the excitability threshold of the tooth pulp were measured according to the generally accepted method at classical points, as well as in the area of increased sensitivity of the teeth. The obtained values were evaluated before treatment, immediately after treatment, one week, 1 month, 3 months, six months and one year after treatment in each group. Statistical significance of the results was assessed in IBM SPSS Statistics, Trial (Armonk, NY: IBM Corp.). Research results. At the classical points, the indicators were approximately the same throughout the study period and no statistical significance was found when comparing them (p>0.05). Gingival recession defined as the apical migration of the gingival margin leads to the exposure of root surface. This in turn may lead to compromised esthetics, dentine hypersensitivity and attachment loss. Severe gingival recession is typically managed surgically. However, achieving complete root coverage in cases of severe gingival recession, especially in the mandibular canine region is quite challenging. Different surgical techniques have been described in the literature to manage this condition. Tunnelling technique is one such technique which has shown promising results. Use of connective tissue graft with tunnelling technique has demonstrated favorable results in cases with mild to moderate gingival recession. Here we report a case where connective tissue graft was used in conjunction with tunnelling technique to achieve complete root coverage despite severe gingival recession and unfavorable prognosis.

Particular attention today is attracted by dentine hypersensitivity that occurs in patients with periodontal tissue diseases. The severity of pain varies from mild to severe; this can negatively affect the psycho-emotional state of the patient and reduce his performance. The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity in patients with generalized periodontitis of a chronic course using varnish based on sodium fluoride, ethanolic extract of propolis, low level laser therapy and the combined usage of low level laser therapy and ethanolic extract of propolis. Object and methods. 104 patients with dentine hypersensitivity and generalized chronic periodontitis were divided into 4 groups in accordance with the treatment method. In group 1 a varnish based on sodium fluoride was used, 2 – ethanolic extract of propolis, in 3 – low level laser therapy (wavelength 810 nm), in group 4, treatment was performed using the combined use of tincture of ethanolic extract of propolis and low level laser therapy (wavelength 810 nm). The severity of dentine hypersensitivity was evaluated using a visual analogue scale. The obtained values of indicators on a visual analogue scale were evaluated before treatment, immediately after treatment, in a week, 1 month, 3 months, six months and a year after treatment in each group. The patients of all groups were instructed not to rinse after applying of treatment, eat or drink for 30 minutes after the treatment and to avoid using any other desensitizing agent in the all period of the research. All the data were entered into Microsoft Excel sheet. The statistical significance of the results was evaluated in IBM SPSS Statistics, V. 25.0 (Armonk, NY: IBM Corp.). Values of p < 0.05 were accepted as statistically significant. Research results. 104 patients completed our study. Treatment in all four groups was effective immediately after receiving it, as evidenced by a significant decrease in the average values of sensitivity indicators on a visual analogue scale. Objectives: This qualitative study aimed to develop an understanding of patients' barriers and facilitators of conversations about dentine hypersensitivity (DH) with their dentist., Methods: The Theoretical Domains Framework shaped the topic guide for 26 participants who were troubled (High H) or not particularly troubled (Low L) by DH. Inductive thematic analysis of anonymised, transcribed, online focus group conversations was undertaken to identify reasons for non-discussion of DH during dental consultations., Results: Participants reported that dentists did not routinely discuss DH, nor did participants feel they could bring it up. There was a perception among participants that DH was not a 'proper' condition and DH pain was not worthy of dentists' attention. Participants reported dealing with DH through lifestyle changes, and had little faith that dentists could offer more than 'just toothpaste' and voiced a need for a 'miracle cure'. Dental anxiety was a reported barrier to conversations. A positive attitude to DH by a dental team that normalised the condition and acknowledged its impacts on patients was voiced as a potential facilitator to DH discussions., Conclusions: DH conversations do not routinely take place in dental practice because patients believe DH is not serious, DH pain is not legitimate and there is no credible solution dentists can offer. Objectives: To determine the prevalence and associated risk indicators for dentine hypersensitivity (DH), erosive tooth wear (ETW), gingival recession (GR), and gingival inflammation (bleeding on probing, BOP), with clinical and questionnaire data from seven European countries., Methods: A cross-sectional, observational, seven-European country, epidemiological study in systemically healthy adults. Participants completed a questionnaire regarding oral hygiene, diet and lifestyle factors. A clinical examination, by calibrated examiners, measured DH (Schiff; participant yes/no), ETW (basic erosive tooth wear examination, BEWE), GR (mm), and BOP (yes/no)., Results: 3551 participants completed the study, mean age 44 ± 17.4, 43.6 % male, 26.1 % rural dwellers. DH (Schiff ≥ 1) was seen in 75.9 % of participants, ETW (BEWE ≥ 1) in 97.6 %, GR (≥1 mm) in 87.9 %. 65.7 % participants had BOP ≥ 10 % sites, 34.3 % BOP<10 % with probing depths ≤3 mm. DH, ETW, GR and BOP increased markedly during young adult life. Thereafter, GR and ETW continued to increase, DH declined after around age 38-47, and BOP plateaued after age 48. DH was significantly associated with ETW (p < 0.001) and GR (p < 0.01); GR was significantly associated with BOP on lingual surfaces (p = 0.017). There were significant associations between increased full mouth BOP ≥ 10 % and reduced brushing duration and exercise frequency (p < 0.001); increased DH and heartburn (p < 0.001); decreased DH (p < 0.001), ETW (p < 0.001) and BOP ≥ 10 % (p = 0.002) with powered toothbrush use., Conclusions: Prevalence of oral conditions assessed was high, greater than in the majority of the GR, DH and ETW literature. Periodontal health was seen in a third of sampled individuals. All these conditions varied markedly by country and age., Clinical Significance: Oral diseases and conditions were highly prevalent throughout the seven European countries investigated. For the majority, these conditions are eminently preventable and treatable by changing behaviours. Objectives: To determine the time interval required for a tooth diagnosed with DH to recover from a stimulus (cold air-blast/tactile) and respond with a similar elicited pain response to a repeat stimulus., Methods: A single-centre, non-randomised, clinical study in healthy adult volunteers. Eligible participants with ≥1 tooth with either a qualifying Schiff score ≥2 following cold air-blast or tactile Yeaple score of ≤20 g were allocated to tactile or air-blast group. Following primary stimulation, the designated tooth was restimulated 10, 5, 2 min and immediately after initial pain cessation. Pain was recorded with participant VAS and investigator Schiff for air-blast., Results: 40 participants completed the study per group. There was a significant difference in VAS scores for tactile 4 delay intervals (p < 0.001) but not air-blast stimulus, and a significant difference in mean change in VAS score from immediate to two-minute delay between stimuli (8.0 tactile vs 0.8 air-blast, p = 0.011). VAS scores in response to either stimulus showed very wide variation between participants, but changes over delay intervals within participants were relatively slight. There was a significant progressive decrease in mean Schiff score with shortening delay intervals from 10 min (2.38) to stimulation immediately after pain cessation (2.15), p = 0.018., Conclusions: The findings suggest healthy teeth recover after DH stimulation more quickly following an air-blast than tactile stimulus, with around 2 min allowing recovery from both. Many factors including habituation and pain measurement subjectivity need to be considered. It would be prudent for future studies to use of ≥3 min delays., Clinical Significance: No clinical study has attempted to determine the appropriate interval between successive stimuli in DH patients. The results will impact directly on the conduct of DH trials. Background: Dentine hypersensitivity is one of the most common chief complaints of patients observed by dentists in their practice. However, there is a lack of universal consensus over the selection of reliable treatment modality.Objectives: To compare the effectiveness between dentine desensitizer and self-etch adhesive in patients complaining of moderate to severe dentine hypersensitivity pain.Methods: A total of 254 patients with moderate to severe dentine hypersensitivity were randomly divided into Group A (Single Bond Universal Agent) and Group B (Seal & Protect Agent) according to the treatment provided. Sensitivity was assessed by means of mechanical (probing) and evaporative (air blast) stimuli. Discomfort Internal Scale (DIS) was explained to patients. DIS scores were recorded after one minute and one month following the application of both agents. Descriptive statistics were calculated. Stratification was done to control confounder and post stratification chi-square test was also applied.Result: The statistically significant difference (p= 0.000) in effectiveness between the two groups was observed. The mean discomfort internal scale score at baseline, after 1 minute and after 1 month in Group A was 3.65 ± 0.60, 2.33 ± 0.64 and 0.41 ± 0.71 respectively, while in Group B, it was 3.55 ± 0.58, 2.40 ± 0.62 and 0.72 ± 0.92 respectively. Overall, 86.6% patients observed improvement in dentinal sensitivity in Group A while in Group B only 67.7% patients reported reduction in sensitivity.Conclusion: Self-etch adhesive significantly reduces dentin hypersensitivity, immediately after one minute of its application and is effective for a period of one month compared to desensitizing agent. This study investigated the relief from pain in DH in one minute after applying over the counter (OTC) dentifrices with Pro-Argin™ and strontium acetate and directly compared them with fluoro-calcium phospho-silicate (FCPS)-based dentifrices for immediate and sustained inhibition of painful stimulus provoking DH. Methods: A randomised, controlled, triple-blinded clinical trial was conducted with 140 participants clinically diagnosed with DH and equally randomized into four groups with parallel treatment assignment of FCPS, Pro-Argin™, 8% strontium acetate, and sodium fluoride-based OTC dentifrices, and tested for DH with air blast, mechanical, and water jet stimuli on SCHIFF cold air sensitivity scale (SCASS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) at interim efficacy intervals of one minute, three days, two, four, and six weeks, subsequently. Results: A total of 128 participants completed the trial. All the treatment groups showed statistically significant improvement in DH with p < 0.001 relative to baseline at all time points. Pro-Argin™ showed a greater reduction in DH with mean scores of (1.34 ± 0.68) (4.20 ± 1.70) (3.05 ± 2.17) followed by strontium acetate (1.57 ± 0.81) (4.65 ± 1.87) (3.75 ± 1.97) on SCASS and VAS for mechanical and water jet stimuli, one minute after application. There was no statistically significant treatment difference between the two (p = 0.499). FCPS showed the highest reduction in DH on SCASS and VAS for waterjet stimuli with mean scores of (0.97 ± 0.68) (1.80 ± 1.73) and Pro-Argin™ on VAS for mechanical stimuli with mean scores of (2.15 ± 1.92) in six weeks. Conclusion: OTC dentifrices with Pro-argin™ and strontium acetate are effective for immediate pain relief from DH, and FCPS could be the best possible treatment option for long term management of DH. DHS is an oral health problem occurring in 10-20% of adults that can alter their lifestyle and quality of life. DHS may also be triggered by some routine dental treatments such as scaling and polishing, thus making a regular dental visit unpleasant and distressing for the patient. This cross-sectional study was carried out using an online survey among Riyadh dental students and general practitioners. An online questionnaire was constructed including demographic data and personal questions followed by dentine hypersensitivity patients' exposure, symptoms, treatment, and prevention questions. 14.7% reported that more than 40 patients visit every six months with DHS, 69.5% believed DHS has a major impact on the quality of life, a gingival recession was thought to be the most common cause of DHS (23%), history of hypersensitivity was considered to be the most common method of diagnosing DHS, only 19.1% were extremely confident in correctly diagnosing DHS. Bioactive glass (BAG) is a benevolent biocompatible material used as an adjunct to various materials used in dentistry. BAG is proved to have a beneficent effect in promoting material–tissue bond. The objective is to analyze significant information available in the literature regarding application of BAG in dentistry. A literature search of electronic databases, including PubMed, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate using the keywords: (Dentifrice OR Dentifrices) OR (Toothpaste OR Toothpastes) AND (Treatment) AND (Dentin OR Dentine OR Tooth) AND (Hypersensitivity OR Sensitivity) AND (Dentifrício OR Dentifrícios) AND (Tratamento OR Tratamentos) AND (Dentinária OR Dentina OR Dente) AND (Hipersensibilidade OR Sensibilidade). The papers found were analyzed regarding title and abstract contents to eliminate the ones that were out of context and not relevant to the review. After this first filter, 31 papers were selected, in which the full-text available was considered of good quality and relevant to the context. The languages of the papers were predominantly English and articles published before 1999 were excluded. The material BAGs are currently used for implant coating, bone grafting, dentin desensitizer, and restorative materials. The current paper reviews the significant developments of BAGs in clinical application, especially dentistry.

Pain is a constant symptom of dentin hypersensitivity (DH), which is a common condition that affects daily life and negatively affects the quality of life (QoL). Diagnosis and outcome measurements following the treatment of the disease require accurate pain assessment. The definition of pain underlies the complexity of its measurement as different factors modulate daily experience. The reproducibility of the prescribed stimuli for inducing DH pain clinically is difficult to achieve. This pain mevaasurement is made with unidimensional scales that are inadequate to capture the other dimensions of pain. The only specific QoL tool available for DH still requires testing in other populations and cultures. This article reviews the appropriateness of the current methods of DH pain assessment and the tools that consider the other pain dimensions. It also looks at its impact on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of people with DH. The findings will create interest and facilitate research in this field of DH pain measurement and management.

(1) Background: Dentine Hypersensitivity (DH) is a frequent clinical problem that causes long-term painful discomfort to patients and is a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for dentists. The aim of this research was to verify the efficacy of a Sodium Fluoride (NaF) gel and the VivaSens® varnish used alone or in combination with a Creation Soft Diode Laser (DL) to treat DH pain. (2) Methods: The study included 121 Non-Carious Cervical Lesions (NCCLs) in 48 patients who complained of DH pain of variable intensity, between 4 and 7 points in VAS, after application of a cold stimulus. Four study groups of 12 patients each were created and subjected to four different types of treatment. Group 1 comprised 27 NCCLs with a total VAS score of 142, who received a topical treatment of NaF. Group 2 comprised 34 NCCLs with a total VAS score of 179, who were treated with NaF in association with DL. Group 3 comprised 31 NCCLs with a total VAS score 172, who received the VivaSens varnish. Group 4 comprised 29 NCCLS with a total VAS score of 155, who were treated with VivaSens in association with DL, using a power of 0.2 Watt in continuous emission and a fiber of 400 µm diameter. (3) Results: The results for each NCCL were evaluated by the cold stimulus response and recorded according to the VAS at the end of each treatment (t1) as well as after one week (t2), 1 month (t3), and 6 months (t4). All treatments resulted in pain relief at all study times, but the best results were obtained for Group 4 at t1, with a total VAS score of 26, and for Group 2 at t2, t3, and t4, with total VAS scores of 41, 51, and 65, respectively. (4) Conclusions: The treatment with VivaSens allowed pain relief immediately after its application, but the greatest long-term benefits (t2, t3, and t4) were obtained with the topical application of NaF associated with a DL.

Objectives: To compare the effectiveness of lasers and topical desensitising agent treatments for dentine hypersensitivity. Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), EMBASE and ISI Web of Knowledge were electronically searched without restrictions. Study search, selection, data extraction and assessment of risk of bias were conducted independently by two reviewer authors. All analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3 (Cochrane Collaboration). Results: This meta‐analysis included 13 eligible studies that compared topical desensitising agents and Nd:YAG or diode laser. Four, six and three studies were considered to have low, moderate and high risks of bias, respectively. The follow‐up period varied from immediate to 9 months. All comparisons except the 3‐month Nd:YAG laser parallel group and 6‐month diode laser group showed that the clinical efficacy of lasers for dentine hypersensitivity was not significantly different with topical desensitising agents. Conclusion: We found low‐quality evidence that was insufficient to draw any conclusions regarding the superiority of lasers or conventional topical desensitising agents in the treatment of DH. Objectives: Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has gained popularity in dentistry as an anti-hypersensitive and anti-caries agent. This study aims to review the postoperative instructions for SDF therapy and examine the evidence supporting these instructions in treating dentine hypersensitivity and caries control., Data and Sources: Two independent reviewers searched three electronic databases (EMBASE, PubMed, and Web of Science) to identify clinical studies that used SDF to treat dentine hypersensitivity and dental caries. Additionally, they searched Google Chrome for information from manufacturers, the department of health, national dental organisations, authoritative dental organisations, and universities regarding SDF therapy for these conditions. Data on postoperative instructions were extracted, and their impact on the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity and caries control was investigated., Study Selection: This review included 74 clinical studies, 11 sets of instructions from SDF manufacturers, and six recommendations from national dental organisations, departments of health and universities. Amongst the included records, 50 clinical studies, two manufacturers, and one department of health mentioned postoperative instructions for SDF therapy. The recommendations varied, from suggesting no specific instructions, immediate rinsing, refraining from eating or drinking for 30 to 60 min, and even avoiding brushing until the next day after SDF therapy. Notably, no clinical studies reported the effects of these postoperative instructions on the SDF treatment of dentine hypersensitivity or dental caries., Conclusions: This scoping review highlights the presence of inconsistent postoperative instructions for SDF therapy in the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity and caries control. Furthermore, there is a lack of evidence supporting the effectiveness of these instructions., Clinical Significance: No evidence supports the postoperative instructions for SDF therapy for managing dentine hypersensitivity and dental caries. Desensitising agents are added to dentifrices to occlude exposed dentine tubules and reduce pain associated with dentine hypersensitivity. In occluding the tubules these agents may alter the surface layer of the dentine and consequently affect bacterial biofilm formation. This research sought to examine the effects of desensitising agents on dentinal biofilms using an in vitro model. A constant depth film fermenter (CDFF) was selected to mimic the oral environment and human dentine with exposed tubules was analysed. Calcium sodium phosphosilicate (CSPS) was selected as a model desensitising agent. Dentine discs were treated with pumice or CSPS-containing dentifrices with or without fluoride, or left untreated (control). Dual-species biofilms of Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus were grown in artificial saliva and analysed by viable counts, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM images confirmed the presence of occluded tubules after CSPS application and demonstrated the formation of biofilms containing extracellular matrix material. Analysis of PCR and viable count data using a one-way ANOVA showed no significant differences for bacterial composition for any of the four treatments. There were, however, trends towards increased numbers of bacteria for the pumice and CSPS treated samples which was reversed by the addition of fluoride to CSPS. In conclusion, CSPS was not found to have a significant effect on biofilms and an in vitro model for testing desensitising agents has been developed, however, further work is required to improve the reproducibility of the biofilms formed and to explore the trends seen.

Gingival recession defined as the apical migration of the gingival margin leads to the exposure of root surface. This in turn may lead to compromised esthetics, dentine hypersensitivity and attachment loss. Severe gingival recession is typically managed surgically. However, achieving complete root coverage in cases of severe gingival recession, especially in the mandibular canine region is quite challenging. Different surgical techniques have been described in the literature to manage this condition. Tunnelling technique is one such technique which has shown promising results. Use of connective tissue graft with tunnelling technique has demonstrated favorable results in cases with mild to moderate gingival recession. Here we report a case where connective tissue graft was used in conjunction with tunnelling technique to achieve complete root coverage despite severe gingival recession and unfavorable prognosis. This vitro study aimed to evaluate the effects of 45S5 bioactive glass (BAG) and Er:YAG laser as desensitization treatments on the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) of fluorosed teeth. The 120 noncarious fluorosis were to obtain superficial dentin, being classified into four groups according to the Thylstrup and Fejerskov Index (TFI). Specimens from each group were randomly divided into five subgroups. After fluorosed teeth hypersensitivity models were established, the following pretreatments were applied on dentine surface: Subgroup 1: deionized water (Control); Subgroup 2: BAG; Subgroup 3: Er:YAG laser; Subgroup 4: BAG + Er:YAG laser, and Subgroup 5: Er:YAG laser + BAG. One sample was randomly selected from each subgroup for scanning electron microscope (SEM). The remaining samples were bonded with composite resin by Adper Single Bond 2 adhesive. Then water bath at 37°C for 24 hr. After 5,000 thermocycling, MTBS was tested and fracture mode was analyzed. The difference of MTBS between BAG group and Control group was found statistically significant (p <.05) in fluorosis. The Er:YAG laser + BAG group showed lowest MTBS values in fluorosis. In conclusion, the pretreatment of BAG might be beneficial to the adhesive of fluorosed teeth. Er:YAG laser desensitization alone or using BAG first and then Er:YAG laser desensitization might not affect the adhesive of fluorosed teeth, while Er:YAG laser desensitization followed by the pretreatment of BAG would be not conducive to the adhesive of fluorosed teeth. This study was evaluating how three desensitizing toothpastes used at home influence the effect associated with desensitizing agents after application in the clinic. Fifty dentine disks measure it permeability and 32 dentine disks with similar permeability levels were selected. Following Dental desensitizer treatment, dentine disks were randomly divided into three subgroups (n=10) that received applications of three toothpastes, respectively. The permeability (Lp) of each specimen was measured after each treatment. One specimen was selected from each group for scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation. After each treatment, the Lp values decreased significantly for each group (p<0.05) and either completely or partially blocked the dentine tubules upon SEM observation. However, no significant differences in Lp values were observed amongst subgroups (p>0.05). After using the Dental desensitizer, Sensodyne, Crest and Colgate desensitizing toothpastes both can continued to reduce the permeability of the dentine disk, and no significant differences were found amongst them.
