ABANDONED mines , *INFRASTRUCTURE (Economics) , *WATERSHEDS , *CONSTRUCTION materials , *MINE soils - Abstract
The province of García Rovira (Santander) has been the protagonist ofambitious road infrastructure projects, carried out through the figure of Temporary Authorization, for the extraction of construction materials used on the roads. The environmental liabilities represented in the soil by mining activities covered by Temporary Authorizations in the province were evaluated. Two projects associated with Temporary Authorizations were selected, in which the execution conditions were analyzed, and the closure and recovery plans of the intervened areas were compared. The projects SCR-08491 in El Término (Guaca) and LHO-14372 in the Servitá River Basin (Concepción) were selected, in which exploitation fronts and mining support areas devoid of vegetation cover, mainly abandoned mining infrastructure, were observed. It is concluded that the contractors focus mainly on complying with the exploitation plan, downplaying the execution of the closure, abandonment, and recovery phase ofthe intervened area. Inefficient control and monitoring of this type of projects by the environmental authority was evident. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SELF-efficacy in students , *FOREIGN language education , *MULTICULTURAL education , *INTERPERSONAL communication , *STEM education , *SELF-consciousness (Awareness) - Abstract
The research purpose is to analyse the importance of STEM education for college students and its influence on their intercultural self-awareness and self-efficacy. The study used analytical, statistical, psychodiagnostic research methods. The methodological framework was based on the understanding of STEM as an integrative educational approach within socio-cultural and cross-cultural contexts, as well as considering social-cognitive theory and Albert Bandura's concept of self-efficacy. The research used the following methods: research methodology for measuring individual self-efficacy (Schwarzer, Yerusalem, Romek); test to measure the level of self-efficacy (Maddux, Scheer, revised by Boyarintseva and Krichevsky); Integrative Questionnaire of Intercultural Competence (Khukhlaev, Gritsenko, Makarchuk, etc.); and Transcultural Self-Efficacy Tool (TSET). Both STEM education and foreign language teaching are important aspects which help to improve the students' self-awareness and self-efficacy in intercultural communication, as well as increasing intercultural stability and cross-border interests and managing intercultural relations. The indicator of the interpersonal communication scale (Student's t-test = 4.89898, p <.05) was statistically significantly different in the repeated test. The score increased more significantly in the control than in the experimental group. The practical significance of the results of the study lies in the possibility of their application for the development of intercultural self-awareness and increasing the self-efficacy of college students. Prospective research is planned to be directed to the study of racial and gender characteristics of the impact of STEM education on intercultural self-awareness and self-efficacy of students. SUSTAINABLE consumption , *CONSUMER law , *CONSUMER protection , *JUSTICE administration , *AXIOMS , *LEGAL positivism - Abstract
The Chilean Consumer Protection Law does not mention sustainable consumption as an explicit principle. In this context, the objective of this work lies in investigating its possible validity as a general principle of consumer law in Chile. The research managed to prove the initial hypothesis that postulated the legal effectiveness of sustainable consumption as a general principle of consumer law. In fact, from the use of the dogmatic methodology, it was concluded that its validity can also be derived from a harmonious and systematic interpretation of the principles and rules that the Chilean legal system actually contains. Specifically, the normative effectiveness of sustainable consumption can be derived from two ways within the techniques of legal positivism. The first of them consists of a concretization of general principles, which, in the hypothesis presented, would correspond to pro natura and pro homine. Secondly, sustainable consumption as a general principle would be obtained from a generalization made from specific manifestations. The latter would be rooted in the consecration of basic consumer rights, the discipline of information and advertising, as well as the establishment of mechanisms to extend the durability of goods. This article analyzes the constitutional implications of the future validity of the Escazú Agreement (Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean) in the legal Peruvian system. Second, this article analyzes whether there is consistency between the content of this regional treaty on environmental procedural rights and what is prescribed by the Constitution of Peru. This implies analyzing a series of constitutional principles associated with the Ecological Constitution, the principle of sustainability, the fundamental right to enjoy a healthy environment and the constitutional design of state environmental tasks. Through a documentary analysis of normative, jurisprudential and doctrinal sources on environmental matters, environmental procedural rights are described and their consistency at the level of constitutional regulation with other constitutional goods, such as economic freedoms, is analyzed. Finally, Peru faces various political challenges to improve the public management of its natural resources and thereby define its own model of environmental democracy. In this sense, the Escazú Agreement represents a challenge as well as an opportunity to give greater legitimacy to the planning of public decisions on ecosystems and the use of natural resources, and thereby avoid a possible impact on the fundamental right to a healthy environment. CORPORA , *SUSTAINABLE development , *LINGUISTIC analysis , *PUBLISHED articles , *TEXT mining - Abstract
In September 2015, all UN member states announced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as part of the 2030 Agenda. This is a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of people around the world. This paper aims to determine the most relevant characteristics of the discourse about this action plan, proposed by seven digital newspapers with the highest readership in Spain during the eight years following the enactment of the initiative. On the one hand, a statistical analysis has been carried out of the published articles, as well as of most-mentioned entities, industries, regions, themes and people or public agents. On the other hand, a computerised linguistic corpus analysis was carried out, showing the main word associations made by each headline and the length of the corresponding journalistic pieces. The main results reveal a generalised increase of the number of news items, especially from 2020 onwards. Furthermore, there is a clear prominence of the social dimension of sustainability and sustainable development, in contrast to the scarce relevance of the ecological and environmental aspect in most of the digital newspapers. The conclusion is that the Spanish press discourse on SDGs and the 2030 Agenda is heterogeneous and, furthermore, that there is currently no example that fully complies with the values of sustainable journalism. Similarly, the coverage of this roadmap does not have long-format journalistic pieces to support the desirable depth of the explanation of the action plan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SCIENTIFIC knowledge , *MULTIDIMENSIONAL scaling , *SUSTAINABLE development , *SUSTAINABILITY , *POLITICAL agenda , *BIBLIOMETRICS - Abstract
The Sustainable Development Goals as a global policy provide universities with the opportunity to offer information and innovative solutions in international forums. In recent years, scientific research on the SDGs has not only grown, but has also diversified. However, the relevant gaps in studies on the subject affect compliance with the Agenda2030. This article aims to evaluate the Brazilian university system's research into SDGs. It also proposes a methodological objective which is to verify whether, through the analysis of scientific production, profiles can be identified, and university entities can be grouped based on their similarity in the priority they give to different topics. A bibliometric analysis is carried out where the production and normalized impact of Brazilian universities are studied, as well as a multidimensional scaling. The results reveal that the Brazilian production of each SDG is concentrated in five universities and that, in general, the entities' contribution to the SDGs achieve a lower impact than the world average except for the theme "Life on Land" (SDG15). This suggests that Brazilian research into the SDGs pursues a contribution of scientific knowledge of the local geographical scope. Furthermore, the data indicate the presence of few universities with unique profiles when it comes to prioritizing scientific contributions to the SDGs. Faced with the global challenge of more diverse and plural knowledge production, Brazilian centers can take advantage to expand their scientific production on the SDGs on a more strategic scale with the purpose of influencing the universal political agenda. The study enriches the understanding of the scientific contribution to the SDGs by Brazilian universities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LEGAL professions , *JUSTICE , *BAR associations , *LAWYERS , *ROMANS - Abstract
Throughout history - from Roman times to the present - there have been numerous examples of how important the legal profession is for society. In every proceeding they are involved in and noble cause they champion, legal professionals contribute to protecting not only their clients' interests, but also those of society as a whole. From an individual's law of the skill (lex artis) to collective responsibility, and from the specifics of a case to the more generalised search for justice, the legal profession's role in society has been evident for centuries, to the extent that it is now an essential component of the principle of effective judicial protection. Bar associations have also contributed by ensuring that lawyers are able to exercise their legally established mandate freely and independently while ensuring that the rules of law and professional conduct are complied with.
