Osteochondritis dissecans is a necrosis of the subchondral bone and the overlying cartilage. In the advanced stages, a fragment can detache and can be found free in intra-articular, responsible for blockages. This pathology affects adolescents, especially men; a notion of intense physical activity is often found. The most interested joint is the knee, especially the medial femoral condyle. Symptoms (pain, blockages) and clinicals signs (edema, crepitations) worsen during physical activity. The treatment begins with an exhaustive clinical examination, follows the iconographic assessment (standard radiographs, MRI), conservatives treatments generally predominate surgicals techniques. But, these last are sometimes inevitables. Rehabilitation is essential in order to avoid residual functional impotence. In this context, we propose the use of an isokinetic test, which makes it possible to personalize the management and adaptation of the rehabilitation to the needs of each one. We retrospectively evaluated the frequency of renal scintigraphic abnormalities in children over 5 years admitted with a first symptomatic urinary tract infection (UTI). Among 261 children investigated, we found only 23 over 5 years having had technetium-99m-dimercaptosuccinic acid scintigraphy during the acute phase of a first UTI. Obvious scintigraphic abnormalities were detected in 14 children (15 kidneys): 12 kidneys showed focal cortical defects and 3 were small and deformed. Ultrasound was normal in 7 of the 15 kidneys with abnormal scintigraphy and in all the kidneys with normal scintigraphy. Among the 12 kidneys with focal cortical lesions, 8 kidneys returned to normal or improved considerably 2-12 months after initial work-up. In conclusion, in children over 5 years admitted with a first symptomatic UTI, the frequency of scintigraphic abnormalities is high and a strategy based only on ultrasound data would miss about 50% of the abnormal kidneys., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

In a population of 100 children with suspected intracranial neurological disease, the overall prevalence of sinusitis signs on magnetic resonance images (MRI) is 45%. This figure exceeds the adult prevalence of 39%, while the nature of the lesions is more severe in children. Furthermore, paediatric sinuses seem to be affected according to a different pattern: adults have mainly maxillary and anterior ethmoidal lesions, whereas in children the sphenoidal and posterior ethmoidal sinuses are frequently involved too. Among children, the overall prevalence increases in the presence of a history of nasal obstruction (prevalence: 50%) and recent upper respiratory tract infection (prevalence: 81%) as well as when bilateral mucosal swelling (prevalence: 80%) or purulent secretions (prevalence: 100%) are seen on anterior rhinoscopy., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

We report a successful endoscopic obliteration of a large recurrent tracheoesophageal fistula (diameter 0.6 cm, length 2.0 cm) in a 12-year-old girl, using a combination of Histoacryl (n-butyl-z-cyanoacrylate) and Aethoxysclerol injected through a polyethylene catheter. The severe pulmonary infection, which rendered surgery potentially life threatening, disappeared after the endoscopic closure. Since the obliteration, now over 12 months ago, the girl is asymptomatic. Endoscopic obliteration is a worth-while technique and should be considered as an alternative to surgery in patients presenting with a complicated recurrent tracheoesophageal fistula. © 1993 Plenum Publishing Corporation., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published
