Employees increasingly conduct work outside of traditional work hours via information communication technologies (ICTs). There is a need to understand how after‐hours ICT use relates to well‐being, given that such connectivity has become unavoidable. We implement an episodic, event‐contingent design to evaluate the association between different ICT media (i.e., e‐mail, phone call, chat app, short message service) and the within‐person outcomes of psychological detachment as partially mediated by task productivity. A daily diary survey was collected over three consecutive workdays to capture after‐hours ICT use. Daily surveys were completed by 498 individuals, with a total of 1494 episodes being captured of after‐hours work ICT engagement. Our results indicate that while engagement with any form of ICT after hours reduces psychological detachment, email and chat apps are associated with the lowest levels of psychological detachment. Moreover, whereas the use of asynchronous ICT has positive main effects on episode‐related task productivity, the use of synchronous ICT (e.g., phone) only enhances episode‐related task productivity when there are high organizational expectations for employees' responsiveness after hours. Background: The availability and utilization of telehealth services have been rapidly increasing in the past decade, which paved the way for ophthalmological care to be offered more easily and conveniently. However, the proficiency of telehealth in the context of ophthalmical care still requires further studies to prove its effectiveness. This study examined the proficiency of general practitioners in a telemedicine platform in identifying red flag symptoms, suggestive of retinal detachment, and devising optimal management strategies. Methods: Our cross-sectional study used chat-based consultations on Altibbi Telemedicine platform (2018–2023) to study ophthalmical patients presenting with "blurred vision" or "blindness." Those endorsing red flag symptoms were categorized as having "positive symptomatology" and those reporting none as having "negative symptomatology." Management plans were classified as referral or reassuring. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM's Statistical Package for Social Sciences to examine associations between symptomatology and other variables. p values below 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: Five hundred and fifty (n = 550) patients with a mean age 22.5 ± 13 years were included. Patients expressing positive symptomatology were more likely to be referred relative to those expressing negative symptomatology (81% vs. 61%, p < 0.001). No significant difference was found between genders and referral (p = 0.053) or age and referral (p = 0.231). Multivariate regression showed a significant correlation between positive symptoms and referral (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]: 2.0; 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 1.3–3.3), none between gender (aOR: 1.5; 95% CI: 0.9–2.2) or age (aOR: 1.0; 95% CI: 0.9–1.1) and referral odds. Social entrepreneurs strive to alleviate the suffering of people in need (targets). However, helping others may also cause social-venturing fatigue—mental or physical exhaustion that severely diminishes engagement in social-venturing activities. Understanding the development and outcomes of social-venturing fatigue is important because it can harm both the social entrepreneur's well-being and the venture's targets. Therefore, this paper develops a fatigue model of social venturing in which an entrepreneur's prosocial motivation drives his or her social-venturing effort. This effort can create benefits for targets but also generate social-venturing fatigue in the entrepreneur. Social-venturing fatigue triggers the entrepreneur's detachment from the targets and desensitization to their social problems, diminishes the entrepreneur's prosocial motivation for the targets, and/or leads the entrepreneur to exit social-venturing altogether. The entrepreneur's psychosocial resources, the salience of the targets' benefits, and the targets' feedback about progress in solving their problems moderate the impact of social-venturing effort in generating the entrepreneur's fatigue. Therefore, we provide new insights into (1) the antecedents and consequences of social-venturing fatigue; (2) why some social entrepreneurs start strong but their efforts diminish over time; and (3) how social venturing can help entrepreneurs build resources that protect them from fatigue. Background: Descemet's membrane detachment is a possible complication after cataract surgery and has been reported to happen in 0.5% of cases after cataract surgery. Case Presentation: A 77-year-old male patient underwent right eye cataract surgery and presented 2 weeks after surgery with decreased visual acuity (CF) in the operated right eye. There was generalized cornea edema and the Descemet's membrane (DM) was noticed to be detached at 80% of the corneal surface. At 12 days postoperatively, a descemetopexy with intracameral air bubble was performed following the principles of endothelial keratoplasty. On follow-up, the visual acuity in the right eye was 6/7.5 with complete corneal clarity at 2 months. Conclusion: Early recognition and surgical intervention of a DM detachment at cataract surgery are likely to enable resolution without the need for a transplant. If suspected or identified at the end of surgery, anterior chamber air insertion is recommended. It is important to note that separated DM can mimic a retained anterior capsule flap. Experiments performed during strongly-shaped high-power diverted negative triangularity (NT) experiments in DIII-D achieved detached divertor conditions and a transient-free edge, showcasing the potential for application of NT to a core-edge integrated reactor-like scenario and providing the first characterization of the parametric dependencies for detachment onset. Detached divertor conditions will be required in future devices to mitigate divertor heat fluxes. Access to dissipative divertor conditions was investigated via an increase in upstream density. Detachment onset at the outer strike point was achieved with H-mode level confinement H 98 − y 2 ∼ 1 and reactor-relevant normalized pressures β N ∼ 2 . Confinement degradation was observed with deeper detachment, associated with the loss of an electron temperature pedestal. Differences in geometry, radial transport, impact of cross field drifts are discussed to explain differences in access to detachment in NT discharges. Higher normalized densities, with respect to equivalent discharges in positive triangularity, were necessary to achieve detachment, partially explained by the shorter parallel connection length to the targets. The effect of cross-field particle drifts (E × B, B × ∇ B) on access to detachment was demonstrated by the lower upstream density needed to access detachment with ion B × ∇ B drift directed outside of the active divertor (Greenwald fraction f Gw ∼ 0.9–1.0 vs f Gw ∼ 1.3). The upstream density at detachment onset was observed to increase linearly with plasma current with ion B × ∇ B drift into the divertor, consistent with the observed narrowing of the scrape-off layer heat flux width λ q . Edge fluid simulations capture separatrix densities needed to achieve detachment in NT plasma and their dependence on drift direction. This paper deals with the distribution of sources, transport, and exhaust of particles in a tokamak. Knowledge and understanding of all the physical phenomena involved in the global particle buildup are necessary to study and predict density regimes and subsequently to develop optimized scenarios for tokamak operation in order to control heat and particle exhaust. Neutral particles and their interactions with plasma are central in this perspective. This paper discusses the impact of varying the intensity of particle fueling in 2D transport simulations of a WEST discharge. Simulations are performed with an updated version of SOLEDGE-HDG that allows a more realistic transport of neutrals using a self-consistent diffusive model based on charge exchange and ionization processes. New code capabilities allow the entire WEST poloidal cross section to be simulated in a realistic configuration for both geometry and the range of control parameters. A gas puff scan illustrates the main features of the sheath-limited, high-recycling, and detached regimes, such as the buildup of the temperature gradient and the pressure drop in the scrape-off layer (SOL), the target temperature falling to 1 eV, and the ionization source moving away from the targets, as well as the particle flux rollover. The collisions between neutral particles and plasma in the divertor region determine divertor detachment and heat flux to the target. However, the diagnostic of neutral particle information in the tokamak experiment is very lacking. To study the behavior of neutral particles in the boundary region flexibly and comprehensively, a two‐dimensional kinetic neutral transport code based on Monte Carlo method is developed in this work. The code is applied to simulate the neutral particles in the boundary of EAST device. Firstly, the simulation results are compared with EIRENE using an identical plasma background, and good agreement is obtained. Secondly, the transport of methane and the corresponding hydrocarbon compounds is simulated using the developed code. The methane injection case is compared with the injection of carbon and deuterium molecule mixture gas (ratio 1:2) to investigate their impact on detachment and fueling. The simulation reveals that, compared to the direct carbon atom injection case, charge‐exchange collision is the dominant collision of neutral methane (hydrocarbons), which suppresses divertor power radiation and plasma detachment while promoting the improvement of fueling efficiency. Efficient handling of high heat flux on the plasma‐facing components, particularly the divertor targets, poses a significant challenge for the Chinese Fusion Engineering Testing Reactor (CFETR) with fusion power of Gigawatt. This work investigates the divertor plasma detachment of CFETR with a standard ITER‐like divertor geometry by neon (Ne) or argon (Ar) impurity seeding using UEDGE code. The cross‐field drifts terms are switched off, and fluid neutral models and a "fixed‐fraction" impurity model are applied to enable efficient simulations for the study of CFETR detachment. In order to reduce the heat load on the divertor targets below the acceptable level (<10 MW/m2), the impurity fraction (f), pumping speed (S), and upstream density are varied to identify the suitable operations window during Ne seeding. The effects of Ne and Ar impurities on the plasma detachment are compared. It is found that with the power across the core‐edge interface PSOL = 200 MW and separatrix density of 2.8 ×$$ \times $$ 1019m−3$$ {\mathrm{m}}^{-3} $$, Ne impurity fraction ≥1.7%, and Ar impurity fraction ≥0.24% can achieve the partial detachment. Achieving similar total radiation power (˜148 MW), the Ne fraction is 2.3% and the Ar fraction is 0.24%. A linear plasma device (LPD) module has been developed under the BOUT++ framework to simulate plasma transport in the MPS‐LD. However, previously, the LPD module used a simplistic neutral particle model that only includes particle density and velocity, which prevents the full understanding of the plasma‐neutrals interactions. In this work, we further optimize the neutral model by using a more complete neutral fluid model containing the continuity equation, momentum equation, and energy equation. The reactions such as charge exchange, excitation, and radiation collisions are included. Since the neutral particle source is mainly provided by particle recycling from the target, a particle recycling model is employed, which includes both fast reflection and slow thermal release. The upgraded LPD module is applied to simulate the argon (Ar) discharge experiment of MPS‐LD, and the benchmark against experiment measurement and SOLPS‐ITER simulation results are presented. Good agreements are obtained, showing the validation of the upgraded module. After that, the impact of particle recycling on Ar plasma is investigated. It is found that a higher recycling coefficient (R) promotes the achievement of high‐density plasma at the target. The recycled Ar atoms change target plasma pressure as well as plasma‐neutral collisions, which both contribute to plasma momentum loss, thus promoting the rollover of ion flux to the target. The effect of differential biasing of the divertor plates in a tokamak is analyzed using SOLPS‐ITER modeling with account of drifts and currents in the SOL. The ASDEX‐Upgrade like geometry and transport parameters adjusted for modeling of the semi‐detached nitrogen‐seeded plasma of shot #28903 are used in analysis. The additional voltage is applied to the outer divertor plate with respect to the grounded vacuum chamber and the inner divertor plate. When high negative voltage is applied, the high field side high density region almost disappears and the divertor plates become more symmetrical than without biasing, while in the case with positive voltage, the formation of the X‐point radiator begins, and both divertor plates become more detached. The results are qualitatively consistent with the experiments conducted on the JFT‐2 M and DIII‐D tokamaks. In addition, both signs of the applied voltage lead to a significant redistribution of the nitrogen within the SOL. Therefore, the possibility of edge plasma control by biasing is demonstrated. Debates surrounding craft‐making have long centred on the intricate relationship among the head, hand and the materials. While studies have typically differentiated between traditional craft and creative crafts by focusing on specific aspect of the relationship, the co‐existence and interdependence of these elements remained largely unexplored. This research focuses on ceramic craft making in Jingdezhen, where traditional and creative crafts coexist. We employ ethnographic research to comprehend the connotation of traditional and creative crafts, examining them from the perspectives of engagement and detachment. In doing so, this study challenges oversimplified narratives that undervalue the making role of traditional craft and position creative craft as a means for self‐expression and resistance against alienation. Instead, we emphasise the complex relationship between the two, characterised by mutual dependence and mutual detriment. These findings partly stem from the predominance of detachment in traditional crafts, which prioritise the act of making and, to some extent, maximising efficiency. They also relate to the prevalence of engagement in creative craft, where the pursuit of creativity is supported by traditional crafts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This essay assesses the relevance of Søren Kierkegaard's non-pseudonymous, edifying writings for considering themes of desire, detachment, and humility within the religious context of Christian spiritual formation. Building on the argument of recent scholars who identify in Kierkegaard's writings an account of a fundamental desire for God "implanted" in the human being, I explore the influence of this vision on Kierkegaard's depiction of desire and detachment in his "Discourses on the Lilies and the Birds". I then turn to how this relates to the perspective of humility that emerges from Kierkegaard's reflections on the biblical story of "the widow's mite". In each case, these edifying writings aim to stir the reader into a process of interrogating faulty self-perceptions based on arbitrary measures of value. I read this mode of communication as able to initiate a "counter-experience", provoking the reader to reorient her horizon of prior self-valuations so she might come to recognize the hidden significance of things and, ultimately, achieve a more accurate sense of oneself in relation to the authentic source of the self's desire. Insofar as this reorientation of the self informs the practice of detachment or the development of humility, people might experience this same process in diverse ways. In this respect, the relevance of Kierkegaard's edifying writings for reflecting on Christian spirituality is not that they provide a thoroughgoing account of detachment or humility that should replace the insights of various spiritual traditions. Rather, I argue that his discourses—when read alongside these traditions—offer a supplemental resource for reflecting on how our positionalities, dispositions, and proximate contexts will inform the divergent ways we might experience the practice of detachment or the manifestation of humility in each new life circumstance. We reevaluated HiTOP's existing factor analytic evidence-base for a Psychosis (P) superspectrum as encompassing two psychosis-relevant subfactors ("spectra")—Thought Disorder (TD) and Detachment (D). We found that their data did not support P as a superspectrum with TD and D subfactors. Instead, TD contained both positive and negative symptoms of psychosis and emerged at the subfactor level. D did not target negative symptoms but, largely, disorders unrelated to psychosis and should not be placed under P. Determining if P is truly a superspectrum with psychosis TD and D subfactors will require factor analyses whose items are symptom-based and span the full range of psychopathology. Secondly, HiTOP authors state that TD and D provide a "nearly 2-fold" improvement in reliability over schizophrenia diagnoses but, after aligning the comparative study methodologies, this 2-fold improvement disappears. Finally, HiTOP's use of the term thought disorder is inconsistent with the ICD-11 and psychosis literature, in which it refers to formal thought disorder. We recommend that HiTOP (a) refer to P as a subfactor with positive and negative symptoms of psychosis until research indicates otherwise, (b) regularly rely on formal systematic reviews, (c) use appropriate reliability comparisons, (d) deconflate D with negative symptoms, and (e) rename TD. This article asks why British mainstream forensic literature and practice did not acknowledge the long-term mental consequences of rape for victims and their need for a sympathetic approach before the 1970s. I argue that this was not simply out of ignorance, considering that in the period 1924–1978 there already were some medical practitioners—women doctors, psychiatrists and gynaecologists—who expressed concern for these matters. However, the forensic expert witnesses, who were influential in the field, considered the virtue of sympathy and the practices of care that women doctors promoted to be incompatible with the judicial virtue of impartiality. To avoid any suggestion of partiality, which would damage their authority in the adversarial courtroom, these men instead employed the epistemic virtue of emotional detachment. Purpose: The Family Stress Model was applied to examine the associations between material hardship, parental depressive symptoms, destructive interparental conflict, and parental emotional availability. This study contributes novel information to the literature by including data from both mothers and fathers from racially diverse and socioeconomically disadvantaged contexts, using multimethod data (observational and survey), and examining fathers' residential status as a moderator. Method: Participants (n = 858) were racially and ethnically diverse families with preschoolers and low income from the Building Strong Families project. Mothers primarily reported on material hardship, and both mothers and fathers reported on their depressive symptoms, destructive interparental conflict, and warmth. The two-bags task was employed to assess both parents' detachment. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the links between material hardship and parental warmth and detachment, with depressive symptoms and destructive conflict as mediators. Results: Material hardship was linked with higher maternal and paternal depressive symptoms, which were each, respectively, associated with mothers' and fathers' destructive conflict. Subsequently, maternal destructive interparental conflict was linked with higher, but paternal destructive interparental conflict linked with lower, maternal detachment. For both parents, depressive symptoms were linked with lower warmth. Fathers' resident status did not moderate examined family processes. Conclusions: Fathers and mothers with low income share similar and different pathways by which material hardship impacts their emotional availability toward their preschoolers. Importantly, the findings point to targeting parental depressive symptoms and maternal destructive interparental conflict to facilitate positive parenting in diverse families. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Firms operating in developing economies are increasingly expected to implement CSR practices aligned with recognized global standards. Drawing on extensive field study data in four Latin American countries, we contribute to business ethics scholarship by making visible and explaining firm shortcomings across social, environmental, and governance goals and activities of CSR. Building on and extending sensemaking literature, we find that leaders and managers responsible for their firms' CSR activities make sense of and justify CSR shortcomings. We specify that justification based on individual, organizational/industry, and macro-environmental influences serves as a mechanism that decouples firms' actual CSR practices from recognized CSR standards. Further, we propose that detachment, involving disconnection from the local operating environment, underlies the CSR shortcomings of firms. This study reviews the concept of detachment in interpersonal relationships by examining its drivers and outcomes laying the foundation for detachment to potentially be extended to customer-employee relationships. Information from several studies in the fields of psychology and marketing was used to identify and categorize the drivers and outcomes of detachment. Using various search platforms, a total of 75 articles were deemed appropriate for this study and were thus included in the review. The results from this review provide a condensed list of preexisting and potential drivers and outcomes for detachment, each of which, were assigned to broader categories based on similarities and other relevant factors. Similarities were also drawn between detachment in adult interpersonal and customer-attachment figure relationships to solidify detachment's extension to customer-employee relationships. This study contributes to theory by being among the first to provide a summarized list of potential drivers and outcomes of detachment within a single paper, thereby advancing the existing knowledge of detachment. The results of this review may also be of particular importance to psychologists and marketing managers as it provides a comprehensive discussion of how detachment could occur in both interpersonal and customer-employee relationships and the possible consequences thereof. The Detachment and Compartmentalization Inventory (DCI) is a valid and reliable self-report instrument that assesses these two distinct forms of dissociative symptoms. However, there is limited research on the cross-cultural validation of the DCI. Therefore, this study aimed to develop an Italian translation of the DCI and examine its internal structure and psychometric properties (including internal consistency, convergent validity, and test-retest reliability) within an Italian-speaking community sample. The sample consisted of 1276 adults (887 females; mean age: 29.57 ± 10.96 years), who completed the DCI and other self-report measures evaluating dissociative experiences and childhood trauma. Confirmatory factor analyses supported the original two-factor model (χ2169 = 1312.80, RMSEA = 0.073, 95%CI 0.069–0.077; CFI = 0.94; TLI = 0.94; SRMR = 0.04). Additionally, the DCI exhibited good internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and convergent validity with another measure of dissociation. The study also confirmed the association between DCI scores and the severity of childhood trauma. Finally, a Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis demonstrated that the DCI effectively distinguishes individuals who screened positively for dissociative disorders. Overall, these findings indicate that the Italian translation of the DCI possesses satisfactory psychometric properties, suggesting its utility as a screening tool for assessing detachment and compartmentalization experiences. Processing fine and ultrafine coal particles from primary resources is essential for sustainable development. As one of the most recently developed enrichment equipment, cyclonic microbubble flotation columns (FCMC) showed high efficiency in upgrading various fine minerals. However, understanding the effect of FCMC operating variables on coal upgrading process responses remains a black box and needs fundamental assessments. To fill the gap, this study examined the influence of circulating pump pressure and froth height on the recovery of different coal particle size ranges to assess and explore fundamental FCMC performance. The experimental results established that increased froth height would simultaneously reduce the collection and froth recovery. Coarse particles in the high froth height were detached due to bubble coalescence or rupture, while the liquid drainage reduced fine particle pollution of froth products. Increasing circulating pump pressure would increase the collection zone's turbulence, lead to coarse particle detachment, and reduce collection recovery. Meanwhile, increasing circulating pump pressure could promote froth stability and decrease froth detachment in the froth zone. The calculated first-order rate constant (kc) confirmed that the flotation rate constants of coarse (−0.5 + 0.25 mm) and fine (−0.074 mm) particles were low, while the intermediate particles (−0.125 + 0.074 mm) had faster flotation kinetics. The detachment cliff is a bifurcative transition to partial detachment recently discovered at the DIII-D tokamak (McLean et al 2015 J. Nucl. Mater. 463 533–6). This work presents a database analysis of target parameters in L-mode and H-mode discharges to search for a detachment cliff at ASDEX Upgrade (AUG). Most of the transitions from attached to partially detached divertor conditions observed in H- and L-mode discharges in AUG show bifurcative-like characteristics that are consistent with the properties of the detachment cliff if the B × ∇ B drift is directed towards the active X-point. In the operational space of power and density, the bifurcative transitions identified during an L-mode discharge occur at injected power and density higher than a threshold value ( P tot > 0.7 MW and n e > 1.6 × 10 19 m−3, respectively). Furthermore, the temperatures at which the transitions start are found to be insensitive to the injected impurity, the injected power and the value of the upstream density. Finally, the study of the evolution of the target parameters, of the intensity of the D α line and of specific manometers and bolometer lines of sights shows that the physical process underlying the detachment cliff and the self-sustained divertor oscillations (Heinrich 2020 Nucl. Three-dimensional discrete element method (DEM) models were developed to simulate particle-bubble interactions by utilizing the API function within the EDEM software platform. Geometric grids were constructed using FLUENT software to induce isotropic turbulence, and this turbulence environment was incorporated into the CFD-DEM framework. The simulations focused on the detachment of particles and bubbles, with particle sizes ranging from 0.10 to 0.30 mm, particle densities ranging from 1500 to 2500 kg/m³, and fixed bubble sizes of 1.00, 1.20, 1.60, and 2.00 mm. The detachment processes occurred within a turbulent flow field at distances of 1, 1.5, 2, and 3 mm from the grid. It is found that the particle-bubble bond required more capillary force to maintain attachment equilibrium as the particle density and size, bubble size, and flow field turbulence environment increased, the smaller the initial flow velocity to bring the bubble and particle to a critical desorption state, indicating the increase in all these factors were not conducive to attachment stability. Analysis of comparable discharges fuelled by either deuterium or protium reveals a clear relationship between the isotope mass and the H-mode density limit. Notably, the density limit is significantly lower in protium, showing a reduction of up to 35 % compared to identical deuterium plasma conditions. Within mixed H-mode density limit (HDL) plasmas, the maximum achievable density, or H-mode density limit, decreases with increasing protium concentration, denoted as cH. For instance, the highest corresponding maximum Greenwald fraction (fGW) of about 1.02 was observed in the pulse with the lowest cH value of 4.4 %. This fGW decreases to 0.96 at cH = 48 %. The average atomic mass, A¯, of the plasma species decreases in these pulses from the value of 1.96 (cH = 4.4 %) down to 1.52 (cH = 48 %). Interestingly, the maximum achievable density appears to be largely unaffected by the applied power value, regardless of whether deuterium or protium is used, as well as under mixed H/D fuelling conditions.Additionally, the measured Greenwald fractions are agreed with a heuristic model based on the SOL pressure threshold of an MHD instability, as proposed by Goldston. This comparison, especially concerning the model’s dependence on isotopic mass, shows full consistency between the measured and predicted Greenwald fractions.

Radiation transport simulations of the deuterium Lyman line series using EIRENE predict a factor of 2 increase of Balmer-α emission in the JET-ILW low confinement divertor plasmas in high-recycling and detached conditions caused by the re-absorption of Lyman-β emission. The photon tracing model in the EIRENE code is applied to SOLPS-ITER pure deuterium plasma solutions of JET-ILW to evaluate the contribution of Lyman-β capture towards the population density of D(p=3) and, consequently, the Balmer-α emission. The local population escape factors of Lyman-α and Lyman-β lines in the JET-ILW divertor show steep spatial gradients and indicate local regions with high opacity in high-recycling and detached conditions. The relative contribution of Lyman-β capture towards the population density of D(p=3) is significant in high-recycling and detached conditions. This observation is further corroborated by line-integrated calculations using Balmer-α diagnostic line-of-sights.

Recent calculations of the lithium vapor box divertor using SOLPS have demonstrated that far Scrape-Off Layer (SOL) baffling and the corresponding far SOL lithium evaporation are unnecessary for divertor performance. The plasma, acting as a virtual baffle, is sufficient to block the neutral lithium from escaping the divertor region in a configuration known as the lithium vapor “cave.” Here, extensions of this PFC design simplification are presented which show that significantly less obtrusive PFCs can provide similar divertor performance. Differences in upstream concentration are predicted depending on the depth and size of the lithium emitting aperture, the shape of the private flux region (PFR) structure, and the location within the PFR of the deuterium puff. SOLPS predictions for (nLi/ne)LCFS vary between 0.020 and 0.049. For the first time, the effect of E×B drifts on predictions for a lithium vapor box divertor is also examined, with the resulting solutions having lower inner divertor heat flux but higher outer divertor heat flux for a given lithium evaporation rate. The differences between the PFC designs are minimized with drifts enabled, indicating design flexibility. The increased PFC design flexibility reported here, along with improved SOLPS modeling with drifts, are important steps towards a final design.

Nurses and other health professionals may be at an increased risk of experiencing emotional disturbance associated with caring for people who are experiencing distress, illness or disease or who are at the end stage of their life. This was a particular problem during the COVID-19 pandemic. This article seeks to explore how working closely with individuals who are experiencing ill health may impact negatively on the nurse as a care provider. This exposure to trauma, illness and death can result in a vicarious experience of trauma that may result in a sense of shared experience with the patient. The emotional burden this places on the nurse can lead to increased anxiety, stress and a need to detach from the patient. This can have a detrimental effect on patient care and nurses must remain vigilant to their susceptibility to, and experience of, mutual suffering through secondary trauma. Although nursing offers many positive experiences, this article is focused on highlighting the negative impacts of secondary traumatic stress. This article briefly outlines the literature relating to secondary traumatic stress and mutual suffering in the acute hospital setting and does not consider mental health settings or patients. The aim of the article is to close the theory−practice gap while also encouraging personal reflection on nurses' experiences of mutual suffering in practice. The author recognises the loaded nature of the term 'mutual suffering'; however, this is an established phrase used to explain the phenomena of interest. Although the term 'suffering' may imply a passive sick role for nurses, in this context the term should be seen as a shared sense of the experience of the patients and health staff. Suffering and healing are both ends of a continuum known as life, with a human being standing in the middle. The actions we choose and the route we follow determine where we will go; whether we will heal and succeed in our lives or suffer as a result of our actions. This research seeks to investigate how the Bhagavad Gita differs from the Gospels in addressing the reality of suffering and transformational healing methods. The narrative analysis approach of qualitative research is used in this study to investigate and identify themes and subthemes that describe the notions of suffering and healing. This research delves deeply and specifically into how the Bhagavad Gita understands suffering and healing. The discussion section of this study also provides specific highlights from several chapters of the Bhagavad Gita that, when applied to human lives, might help enlighten the way to healing. The effects of divertor pumping on divertor detachment and core performance are investigated using SOLPS-ITER simulations for the H-mode discharges with argon (Ar) seeding on EAST. The simulation results show that a relatively low pumping speed (S) is advantageous for achieving divertor detachment due to an increased Ar density and enhanced radiative dissipation. On the other hand, a relatively low S results in a high Ar density in the core region, which is detrimental to the core performance. Increasing S improves the particle removal capacity, which is not conducive to obtaining detachment but is conducive to reducing the Ar accumulation in the core region. In order to evaluate the compatibility of detachment and high core plasma performance, the impact of S on the divertor Ar retention (measured by impurity compression CAr and enrichment EAr) and the corresponding physical mechanisms were analyzed. In cases with relatively low and medium upstream density ( n e , sep OMP ), a higher S is beneficial to increase CAr and EAr, i.e. better core-divertor compatibility, mainly due to the diminished neutral diffusion towards the upstream and the enhanced net force on the Ar towards the target. At relatively high n e , sep OMP , both CAr and EA show no clear change with increasing S. This is because the negative contribution of the reduced relative distance between the Ar ionization front and the velocity stagnation point of the Ar ions to the Ar retention becomes significant with increasing S, which can even offset the positive contribution of the neutral diffusion and the net force. Divertor detachment is a promising method to solve the power exhaust problem in tokamak devices or even in future magnetic fusion reactors. In this work, a detachment experiment (HL-2A shot #38008) with mixed gas seeding (60% nitrogen and 40% deuterium) is simulated using the SD1D module in BOUT++. In the process from attachment to detachment, the target electron temperature and the target ion saturation current in simulations are found to be consistent with the experimental results measured by Langmuir probes on the target plate. In order to understand the underlying detachment mechanism on HL-2A, this work analyses the role of different particle species in the cases with different seeding rates. It shows that the plasma density varies little and the density of neutrals ( D and D 2 ) slightly decreases with the increase of nitrogen seeding rate, such that plasma–neutral interactions cannot effectively reduce plasma energy and plasma momentum in the divertor. The case with a high seeding rate predicts that increasing seeding rate cannot reach a target temperature lower than 2.5 eV , which is the required temperature for strong plasma–molecule interactions. Thus, the plasma–molecule interactions may not be important in the divertor during nitrogen seeding. This work also studies the parallel forces including (1) force due to the parallel electric field, (2) friction forces, (3) ion- and electron-thermal forces, and (4) collisional reactions (e.g. charge exchange recombination and ionisation). It is found that the friction force between nitrogen ions and other particle species (primarily D + ) is the dominant force towards the target, while ion- and electron-thermal forces are the dominant force pushing nitrogen ions back to upstream. This paper extends a 1D dynamic physics-based model of the scrape-off layer (SOL) plasma, DIV1D, to include the core SOL and possibly a second target. The extended model is benchmarked on 1D mapped SOLPS-ITER simulations to find input settings for DIV1D that allow it to describe SOL plasmas from upstream to target—calibrating it on a scenario and device basis. The benchmark shows a quantitative match between DIV1D and 1D mapped SOLPS-ITER profiles for the heat flux, electron temperature, and electron density within roughly 50% on: (1) the Tokamak Configuration Variable (TCV) for a gas puff scan; (2) a single SOLPS-ITER simulation of the Upgraded Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak; and (3) the Upgraded Axially Symmetric Divertor EXperiment in Garching Tokamak (AUG) for a simultaneous scan in heating power and gas puff. Once calibrated, DIV1D self-consistently describes dependencies of the SOL solution on core fluxes and external neutral gas densities for a density scan on TCV whereas a varying SOL width is used in DIV1D for AUG to match a simultaneous change in power and density. The ability to calibrate DIV1D on a scenario and device basis is enabled by accounting for cross field transport with an effective flux expansion factor and by allowing neutrals to be exchanged between SOL and adjacent domains. Motivated by Ryser's theorem for latin rectangles, in 1974, Cruse found conditions that ensure a partial symmetric latin square of order m can be embedded in a symmetric latin square of order n. Loosely speaking, this results asserts that an n-coloring of the edges of the complete m-vertex graph K_m can be embedded in a one-factorization of K_n if and only if n is even and the number of edges of each color is at least m-n/2. We establish necessary and sufficient conditions under which an edge-coloring of the complete \lambda-fold m-vertex 3-graph \lambda K_m^3 can be embedded in a one-factorization of \lambda K_n^3. In particular, we prove the first known Ryser type theorem for hypergraphs by showing that if n\equiv 0\ (\mathrm {mod}\ 3), any edge-coloring of \lambda K_m^3 where the number of triples of each color is at least m/2-n/6, can be embedded in a one-factorization of \lambda K_n^3. Background: Despite its high prevalence in all psychiatric disorders and its widely demonstrated clinical relevance as a marker of both clinical severity and poorer treatment response, a scientifically validated definition of dissociation remains controversial, and the understanding of its pathogenesis is still somewhat lacking. Furthermore, although most clinicians commonly refer to dissociation as a single unitary concept, the empirical evidence strongly supports the paucity of a one-dimensional approach to dissociation. Summary: Resonating with the clinical and neuroscientific data on this topic, this article aimed to provide a working hypothesis, suggesting that the wide variety of psychopathological phenomena that are currently improperly lumped into the category of dissociation are in fact produced by at least three different pathogenic processes involved in developmental trauma, namely, traumatic disintegration, detachment responses, and dissociation. This article draws on Eckhart's concept of detachment to explore the gravitational pull that Melville's Bartleby exerts on both the narrator and the other characters in his law practice. In abstaining from the "common usage" of the practice and in abandoning "common sense," Bartleby brings to the fore another ground for communal living, although this ground can never be claimed as an individual or collective possession. It is the ground of being, or, in the vocabulary of the tale, the premise that everyone shares provided that it never becomes a property or a predicate. Eckhart's detached soul and Melville's Bartleby are companion figures to the extent that in doing—or preferring to do—nothing they expose the nothingness of all individual inclinations and preferences. X-Point Radiator (XPR) regimes have been obtained in WEST tokamak experiments with nitrogen seeding during the experimental campaigns of 2023 and 2024. These experiments showed the formation of a stable toroidal radiating ring near the X-point, similar to observations in other devices such as JET, ASDEX-Upgrade, TCV, and COMPASS. In WEST, the onset of this regime is associated with a sharp transition of the divertor plasma from hot to cold and dense conditions, with increased particle fluxes, indicating that the plasma is not detached. At the same time, core conditions are significantly improved. These scenarios were successfully controlled in WEST using an interferometry line-of-sight passing through the X-point. Interpretative modeling of these discharges with the SOLEDGE3X-EIRENE code reveals that a physics mechanism needed to stabilize WEST nitrogen XPRs is not present when driving the simulations at constant power. On the contrary, a stable XPR can be obtained by increasing the power injected at the time of the XPR onset to represent the reduction of W contamination, highlighting the need to describe the plasma dynamics and go toward integrated core–edge simulations.

This paper deals with the distribution of sources, transport, and exhaust of particles in a tokamak. Knowledge and understanding of all the physical phenomena involved in the global particle buildup are necessary to study and predict density regimes and subsequently to develop optimized scenarios for tokamak operation in order to control heat and particle exhaust. Neutral particles and their interactions with plasma are central in this perspective. This paper discusses the impact of varying the intensity of particle fueling in 2D transport simulations of a WEST discharge. Simulations are performed with an updated version of SOLEDGE-HDG that allows a more realistic transport of neutrals using a self-consistent diffusive model based on charge exchange and ionization processes. New code capabilities allow the entire WEST poloidal cross section to be simulated in a realistic configuration for both geometry and the range of control parameters. A gas puff scan illustrates the main features of the sheath-limited, high-recycling, and detached regimes, such as the buildup of the temperature gradient and the pressure drop in the scrape-off layer (SOL), the target temperature falling to 1 eV, and the ionization source moving away from the targets, as well as the particle flux rollover. A crude estimate of wall erosion is also provided, showing the respective role of each plasma wall component in each of these regimes.

Logic is an excellent tool for reasoning about most philosophical topics, including logical issues themselves. Discussions about the validity or otherwise of certain principles have been widespread throughout the history of logic. This chapter exemplifies that with the analysis of the debate surrounding connexive logics. In connexive logics, certain principles involving mainly negation and implication hold good, whereas they are not valid in most well-known logics. Despite their intuitiveness, the connexive principles quickly lead to contradictions and even to triviality, i.e. to the truth of every proposition. This chapter surveys the main arguments against the connexive principles and discusses some prospects for challenging those arguments and endorsing the connexive principles.

How individuals regulate emotions in the face of loss has important consequences for well-being and health, but we know little about which emotion regulation strategies are most effective for older adults for whom loss is ubiquitous. The present laboratory-based study examined effects of three emotion regulation strategies (i.e., detachment, positive reappraisal, or acceptance in response to film clips depicting loss) on subjective emotional experiences, physiology, and perceptions of emotion regulation success and motivation in healthy older adults (N = 129, age range = 64-83). Results showed that, first, detachment decreased emotional experiences across the board; positive reappraisal decreased negative and increased positive emotional experiences; while acceptance did not alter emotional experiences. Second, detachment decreased physiological arousal (driven by increases in interbeat interval and decreases in respiration rate) whereas positive reappraisal and acceptance did not alter physiological arousal compared with "just watch" trials. Third, individuals felt most successful and willing to put forth their best effort when implementing acceptance, while they felt least successful and least willing to put forth their best effort for positive reappraisal. These findings illuminate longstanding discussions regarding how individuals can best regulate emotions in the face of loss. They show that older adults can regulate their emotional experiences and (to a lesser extent) their physiology with detachment numbing emotional experiences and decreasing physiological arousal; positive reappraisal brightening emotional experiences; and acceptance resulting in the highest perceptions of success and motivation. Introduction: People vary in the degree to which they affiliate with others; exaggerated efforts maintain interpersonal closeness versus distance are codified in longstanding categorical models of personality pathology, and in contemporary dimensional frameworks as well. Objective: To examine associations between destructive overdependence (DO), dysfuntional detachment (DD), and healthy dependency (HD) and qualities of the self‐concept. Method: A mixed‐sex sample of 229 adults completed the Relationship Profile Test to assess DO, DD, and HD, and the Object Relations Inventory (ORI) to assess qualities of the self‐concept. Results and Conclusion: Analyses indicated that (1) the ORI Strong dimension was uniquely predictive of DO (inversely related); (2) ORI Warm and Nurturing were unique predictors of DD (both inversely related); and (3) ORI Nurturing and Successful were unique predictors of HD. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are seen as essential tools for mastering knowledge work in the twenty-first century. However, ICTs do not solely improve workflows, but are experienced by employees as an additional demand described as ICT workload. In this study, we apply the stressor-detachment model in the context of ICT, and investigated relations of ICT workload to psychological detachment and emotional exhaustion. Furthermore, as extended work availability and workplace telepressure are organisational and individual factors associated with ICT use, we extend the stressor-detachment model by testing moderated mediational effects. Specifically, we investigated whether extended work availability and workplace telepressure strengthen the indirect effect of ICT workload on emotional exhaustion via psychological detachment. In a longitudinal study of 228 employees with three measurement points, ICT workload was positively related to emotional exhaustion over time. Additionally, we found tentative support for a mediation via psychological detachment, that is stronger for higher levels of workplace telepressure. In sum, our study shows that employees experiencing high levels of ICT workload have a higher risk of suffering from emotional exhaustion. An impaired ability to psychologically detach and high levels of workplace telepressure play a crucial role in this relationship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Langmuir probe measurements in neutral beam injection (NBI) heated, low-confinement mode plasmas in JET ITER-like wall showed that the current to the divertor targets, Idiv, in helium (He) plasmas was up to 70% lower on the low-field side (LFS) than in otherwise identical deuterium (D) plasmas. The edge plasma density at which the rollover of Idiv occurred i.e. the onset of detachment, was 10% higher in He plasmas on both the LFS and high-field side (HFS). The density of Idiv rollover increases by 25% for He when the NBI power increases 1MW to 5MW. The total radiated power was similar in He and D plasmas for densities below the Idiv rollover. At densities above the Idiv rollover density, the total radiated power and power from within the separatrix are higher in He, reducing the power across the separatrix and subsequently Idiv,LFS. In He plasmas, the peak radiated power was observed within the confined region above the X-point in tomographic reconstructions from bolometry.

Background: Working despite feeling ill – presenteeism – is a widespread behavioral phenomenon. Previous research has shown that presenteeism is influenced by various work-related and personal factors. It's an illness behavior leading to a range of negative but also positive consequences. Due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, remote work has become the “new normal” for many employees. But so far, little is known about presenteeism in remote work. This study aims to investigate presenteeism in remote work by looking at the extent of remote presenteeism, differences to presenteeism in on-site work, and associated factors. Methods: A nationwide cross-sectional online survey was conducted in Germany with N = 233 participants. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, and correlation analysis. Results: The results reveal that presenteeism is prevalent in remote work x̅ = 4.13 days (Md = 3; D = 2; s = 4.95). A low ability to detach from work (r = -.17; p = .005) and low supervisor support (r = -.14; p = .02) is associated with more remote presenteeism days. Remote working conditions seem to facilitate presenteeism. Conclusion: This study provides empirical insights into a subject area of great societal relevance. The results show that awareness should be raised for presenteeism in remote work. It should be regarded as a behavior that can be functional or dysfunctional, depending on the individual situation. Supervisor support and detachment should be fostered to help reduce dysfunctional presenteeism. Promotion of health literacy might help remote workers to decide on a health-oriented illness behavior. Further research is vital to analyze to what extent and under which circumstances presenteeism in remote work is (dys)functional and to derive clear recommendations.

This essay assesses the relevance of Søren Kierkegaard’s non-pseudonymous, edifying writings for considering themes of desire, detachment, and humility within the religious context of Christian spiritual formation. Building on the argument of recent scholars who identify in Kierkegaard’s writings an account of a fundamental desire for God “implanted” in the human being, I explore the influence of this vision on Kierkegaard’s depiction of desire and detachment in his “Discourses on the Lilies and the Birds”. I then turn to how this relates to the perspective of humility that emerges from Kierkegaard’s reflections on the biblical story of “the widow’s mite”. In each case, these edifying writings aim to stir the reader into a process of interrogating faulty self-perceptions based on arbitrary measures of value. I read this mode of communication as able to initiate a “counter-experience”, provoking the reader to reorient her horizon of prior self-valuations so she might come to recognize the hidden significance of things and, ultimately, achieve a more accurate sense of oneself in relation to the authentic source of the self’s desire. Insofar as this reorientation of the self informs the practice of detachment or the development of humility, people might experience this same process in diverse ways. In this respect, the relevance of Kierkegaard’s edifying writings for reflecting on Christian spirituality is not that they provide a thoroughgoing account of detachment or humility that should replace the insights of various spiritual traditions. Rather, I argue that his discourses—when read alongside these traditions—offer a supplemental resource for reflecting on how our positionalities, dispositions, and proximate contexts will inform the divergent ways we might experience the practice of detachment or the manifestation of humility in each new life circumstance.
