OBJECTIVE: Recurrent tonsillitis and obstructive tonsillar hypertrophy are very common in childhood and constitute the two major causes of tonsillectomy in this age group. There is no study in the literature on the immune/histopathological changes in the recurrent and obstructive tonsillar hypertrophy of Weber's glands. In this study, we aimed to histopathologically and immunohistochemically examine the Weber's glands of pediatric patients with recurrent. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 63 patients, with 31 patients aged 6-9 who had surgery for recurrent tonsillitis, and 32 patients aged 6-11 years who had surgery for obstructive tonsillar hypertrophy, were included in the study. The removed Weber's glands were included in the obstructive tonsillar hypertrophy or recurrent tonsillitis group according to the patient's clinical diagnosis. All specimens were coded with a numbering method, where only the surgeon knew which patient was in which group. All specimens were evaluated in the same histology center and by the same histologist, unaware of the clinical diagnosis of the patients (blind). Isik University Engineering Faculty students of Introduction to Programming Course (CSE101) with respect to student gender and course language (Turkish-English). A total of 114 university students, 40 female and 74 male, participated in the research. In order to measure students' self-efficacy perceptions, General Self-Efficacy scale was used and openended questions were asked for evaluation of course outcomes (success and failure) and basic demographic information such as age and gender were collected. The open-ended questions were examined by qualitative analysis method. The quantitative analysis revealed a significant relation between the self-efficacy scores of the students with the General Grade Point Average (GPA); and a non-significant relation with the CSE101 end of term grade average. In addition, it was seen that students' self-efficacy scores did not significantly differ with respect to the gender and language (Turkish-English). The motivation scores of the students do not differ according to the course language. In qualitative analysis, we observed that the frequency percentages of the answers given by the students changed according to their genders. By revealing the gender difference in attitudes towards programming course, it is expected that this study will contribute to the process of determining the variables that predict student success in engineering programming education. © 2017 IEEE.

SUMMARY: Head trauma damages the optic nerve visual function and visual acuity.Effects of head trauma on the retina was investigated with biochemical, histological and immunohistochemical respects.The study was conducted on 30 rats with three groups: group 1 was control group (n=10). Second group was head-traumatized group (n=10) and last group was head-traumatized+Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE, i.p. 20ml/kg/day). Upon head was traumatized, CAPE was applied to trauma+CAPE group and then for the following four days. At the end of 5th day, rats were anesthetized with ketamine hydroxide and then blood samples were taken for biochemical analysis. MDA and GSH-Px values were compared. After blood sample, total eyes of rats were dissected for histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis. In trauma group, degeneration in retinal photoreceptor cells, disintegrity and in inner and outer nuclear layers, hypertrophy in ganglion cells, and hemorrhage in blood vessels were observed. In the group treated with CAPE, lesser degeneration in photoreceptor cells, regular appearances of inner and outer nuclear layers, mild hemorrhage in blood vessels of ganglionic cell layer were observed. The apoptotic changes caused by trauma seen in photoreceptor and ganglionic cells were decreased and cellular organization was preserved due to CAPE treatment. CAPE was thought to induce healing process on traumatic damages. RESUMEN: El trauma craneal daña la función visual del nervio óptico y la agudeza visual. Se investigaron los efectos del traumatismo craneal en la retina con aspectos bioquímicos, histológicos e inmunohistoquímicos. El estudio se realizó en 30 ratas distribuidas en tres grupos: grupo control (n = 10); grupo con traumatismo craneal (n = 10); grupo con traumatismo craneoencefálico + Éster fenetílico de ácido cafeico (CAPE, i.p. 20 ml / kg / día). Sobre la cabeza traumatizada, se aplicó CAPE a trauma + grupo CAPE durante los siguientes cuatro días. Al final del día 5, las ratas se anestesiaron con hidróxido de ketamina y luego se tomaron muestras de sangre para el análisis bioquímico. Se compararon los valores de MDA y GSH-Px. Después de la muestra de sangre, se disecaron los ojos de las ratas para su análisis histopatológico e inmunohistoquímico. En el grupo de traumatismos, se observó degeneración en las células fotorreceptoras retinianas, desintegridad en capas nucleares internas y externas, hipertrofia en células ganglionares y hemorragia en los vasos sanguíneos. En el grupo tratado con CAPE, se observó una menor degeneración en las células fotorreceptoras, apariciones regulares de capas nucleares internas y externas, hemorragia leve en los vasos sanguíneos de la capa de células ganglionares. Los cambios apoptóticos causados por el trauma visto en el fotorreceptor y las células ganglionares disminuyeron y la organización celular se conservó debido al tratamiento con CAPE. Se concluyó que CAPE induce un proceso de curación en daños traumáticos.

In this study we examined the effects histopathologic and immunohistochemical of xylene inhalation in rats by using light microscopy. Adult wistar albino rats were used in this study. Eight rats were in control group and 8 rats were in the experimental group. The experimental group was exposed to 300 ppm formaldehyde 35 min/day, 5 days/week for 8 weeks. The lining epithelium of respiratory mucosa showed a loss of ciliated cells with metaplasia of goblet cells, hyperplasia of squamous cells and edema, inflamation in sub epithelial area). In the group treated xylene. Disruption of cell-cell contact was observed. Weak expression of E-cadherin was observed between cells. The vascular endothelium of capillaries and venoles showed intense immunostaining for VEGF. Se examinó el efecto histopatológico e inmunohistoquímico de la inhalación de xileno en ratas mediante el uso de microscopía de luz. Se utilizaron ratas albinas Wistar adultas. Ocho ratas formaron parte del grupo control y 8 del grupo experimental. El grupo experimental fue expuesto a 300 ppm de formaldehído, 35 min/día, 5 días/semana, durante 8 semanas. El epitelio de revestimiento de la mucosa respiratoria mostró una pérdida de células ciliadas con metaplasia de células caliciformes, hiperplasia de células escamosas y edema, con inflamación en la zona subepitelial. En el grupo tratado con xileno se observó una interrupción del contacto célula-célula. Se observó una débil expresión de E-cadherina entre las células. El endotelio vascular de los capilares y vénulas mostraron intensa inmunotinción de VEGF.

The purpose of present study was to investigate effects of nicotine on follicular development in the neonatal rats. In this study, 14 adult Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 230-260 g (±10 g) were used as experimental animal. After detecting pregnancies with vaginal smear method, pregnant rats were two equal groups were separated. The pregnant females were treated with the nicotine for 21 days and litters were sacrificed at first day of birth. The ovaries of litters were processed through routine paraffin embedding method, serially sectioned by microtome, stained with hematoxylin-Eosin and immunohistochemical technique investigated by light microscope.In the ovary of group treated nicotine, Preventing follicular development was observed in granular degeneration and luteal cells. It was also observed in inflammation and bleeding vessels. Immunohistochemical localization of vimentin was restricted to the granulosa cells and stromal area. Nicotine treatment group in granular cells and luteal cells in E-cadherin expression was weak. We concluded that nicotine might affect the cellular junctions in the ovarian follicular development. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the potential effects of the systemically delivered combination of calcium, zinc and vit-d supplementation of the locally applied alloplastic bone graft. 28 male Wistar albino rats were used in this study. In each animal, bone defects (10 mm length ¥ 3 mm width ¥ 2 mm depth) were created in the tibias. The animals were divided into four groups. In Group 1 (Control Group) rats were fed with standard rat diet. In Group 2 (Calcium Group) rats received calcium carbonate (15 mg/kg body weight) suspended in saline. In Group 3 (Calcium/Zinc Group) rats received calcium carbonate (15 mg/kg body weight) and zinc sulfate (4 mg/kg body weight) suspended in saline. In Group 4 (Calcium/Vitamin D Group) rats received calcium carbonate (15 mg/kg body weight) and Vitamin D (500 IU/kg body weight) suspended in olive oil. Histopathological analysis of samples was performed to evaluate the process of osteoblastic activity, matrix formation, trabecular bone formation and myeloid tissue in bone defects. Total amounts of osteoblastic activity, matrix formation, trabecular bone formation and myeloid yissue in Ca Group (p= 0.002), Ca/Zinc Group (p= 0.002), and Ca/Vit.D Group (p= 0.001) were significantly higher than in Control Group. The total amounts of Ca/Vit.D Group were significantly different than Control Group and Ca Group. The results of the present study indicated that the oral calcium carbonate supplementation combination with zinc may have systemic effects on accelerating bone regeneration in alloplastic bone grafted tibial defects. Further human studies involving long-term follow up and different type of bone grafts should be conducted. El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar los efectos potenciales de la combinación sistémica de calcio, zinc y vitamina D como suplemento de la aplicación local de un injerto óseo aloplástico. Fueron utilizadas 28 ratas Wistar albinas (machos). En cada animal, se crearon defectos óseos en las tibias (cuyas medidas fueron: 10 mm de longitud x 3 mm de ancho x 2 mm de profundidad). Los animales fueron divididos en cuatro grupos. En el Grupo 1 (control) las ratas fueron alimentadas con una dieta estándar. En el Grupo 2 (grupo de calcio) las ratas recibieron carbonato de calcio (15 mg/kg de peso corporal) suspendido en solución salina. En el Grupo 3 (grupo de calcio/zinc) las ratas recibieron carbonato de calcio (15 mg/kg de peso corporal) y sulfato de zinc (4 mg/kg de peso corporal) suspendido en solución salina. El Grupo 4 (calcio/vitamina D) recibió carbonato de calcio (15 mg/kg de peso corporal) y vitamina D (500 UI/kg de peso corporal) suspendidos en aceite de oliva. Se realizó un análisis histopatológico de las muestras para evaluar el proceso de actividad osteoblástica, formación de la matriz, hueso trabecular y tejido mieloide en defectos óseos. Las cantidades totales de actividad osteoblástica, formación de matriz, de hueso trabecular y tejido mieloide en los grupos Calcio (p= 0,002), Calcio/Zinc (p= 0,002), y Calcio/Vitamina D (p= 0,001) fueron significativamente mayores que en el grupo de control. Las cantidades totales de Calcio/Vitamina D Grupo fueron significativamente diferentes de los grupos Control y Calcio. Los resultados del presente estudio indican que lacombinación de suplementos de carbonato de calcio por vía oral con zinc puede tener efectos sistémicos sobre la aceleración de la regeneración ósea en defectos tibiales con injertos aloplásticos. Deben llevarse a cabo otros estudios en humanos, que involucren un largo plazo de seguimiento y también diferentes tipos de injertos óseos.

Propineb is a fungicide with a propylene-bis-dithiocarbamate structure. Pregnant Wistar rats were exposed to 400 ppm propineb concentrations in 5 ml distilled water, 5 days per week until the end of pregnancy. The rats were treated with propineb for 16 days and the brains of litter rats were sacrificed at first day of birth after which their brains were collected. Ultrastructural examination of the brains of the fetuses and propineb-treated pregnant females revealed a variety of histopathological effects. We suggest that mitochondrial damage may be an effective factor for neuron necrosis. These results supported the proposal that the exposure to fungicides such as propineb and to other naturally occurring compounds which inhibit mitochondrial function, may contribute to Parkinson's disease development. El Propineb es un fungicida con una estructura de propileno-bis-ditiocarbamato. Ratas Wistar preñadas fueron expuestas a concentraciones de depropineb (400 ppm) en 5 ml de agua destilada, 5 días por semana hasta el final de la preñez. Las ratas fueron tratadas por 16 días y las crías fueron sacrificados el primer día de nacimiento para recolectar sus cerebros. El examen ultraestructural de los cerebros de los fetos y las hembras preñadas tratadas con propineb reveló una variedad de efectos histopatológicos. Sugerimos que el daño mitocondrial puede ser un factor eficaz para la necrosis neuronal. Estos resultados apoyaron la propuesta de que la exposición a los fungicidas tales como propineb y de otros compuestos de origen natural que inhiben la función mitocondrial, puede contribuir al desarrollo de la enfermedad de Parkinson.

Having two steps, this research aims is to do an introductory research about how moral conflict is conceptualized in a sample from Turkey. It was seen that above %80 of the respondents shared some conflicts as important moral issues. Although all these themes are mentioned as important moral conflicts, their frequency of living mentioned by the %71 of the respondents was as "never lived". Some conflicts derived from the previous step were not seen as moral conflicts in this second step by the respondents. Some moral issues which were seen as more important than the others were differentiated in terms of age, gender and education.Then items of the inventory were categorized in terms of their thematic similarities. These categories are cheating on, work ethics, money related problems, violence, justice, reactions to behaviors which were thought as wrong, honesty, intervention to privacy and ending a relationship. A conflict and a frequency of living score were computed by adding responses of respondents to every item. High and significant correlations were found between these categories. The correlations between conftlict scores and living scores were negative and significant. Men mentioned cheating on as significantly less important than women. Graduates and university students see themes of ending relationships as less important than secondary school graduates. In terms of intervention to privacy, women had significantly higher scores than men. Katılımcıların %80'i bazı çatışmaları önemli ahlaki meseleler olarak görmekte ortaklaşmışlardır. Ancak önemli ahlaki çatışma olarak nitelendirilen bu meselelerin katılımcıların %71'i tarafından hiç yaşanılmadığı ifade edilmiştir. Bazı meseleler ilk aşamada ahlaki çatışma olarak görülürken ikinci aşamada ahlaki çatışma olarak görülmemiştir. Katılımcıların %80'inden fazlasının önemli gördüğü çatışmaların içinde bazıları yaş, cinsiyet ve eğitim bakımından farklılıklar göstermiştir. Daha sonra envanterin maddeleri tema benzerlikleri dikkate alınarak kategorileştirilmiştir. Bu çatışma kategorileri: aldatma, iş etiği, maddi meseleler, şiddet, adalet, yanlış görülen davranışlara tepki, dürüstlük, özel hayata müdahale ve ilişkiyi bitirme'dir. Kategorilere giren maddelere katılımcılar tarafından verilen puanlar toplanarak her bir kategori için bir çatışma puanı ve yaşama sıklığı puanı elde edilmiştir. Bütün kategoriler arasında oldukça yüksek ve anlamlı korelasyonlar bulunmuştur. Kategorilerin çatışma puanlarıyla yaşanma sıklığı puanları arasındaki korelasyonlar negatif yönde anlamlı çıkmıştır. Erkekler, kadınlara nazaran aldatmayı anlamlı derecede daha az önemli bir çatışma olarak görmektedirler. Üniversite mezunu ve üniversite öğrencileri, ilişkiyi bitirmeye dair meseleleri ortaokul mezunlarından daha az önemli görmüşlerdir. Postpartum serebral anjiyopati (PSA) eklampsisi olmayan kadınlarda sıklıkla doğumdan 1-4 hafta sonra görülen serebrovasküler hastalıktır. PSA komplikasyonu olarak daha çok intraserebral hemoraji ve serebral infarkt bildirilmiştir. Bu yazıda, PSA’nın nadir bir komplikasyonu olan non-anevrizmal subaraknoid hemoraji saptanan bir olgu bildirilmektedir., Cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome is characterized by the multifocal vasoconstriction of cerebral arteries. Postpartum cerebral angiopathy is a cerebrovascular disease which is seen within 1-4 weeks after parturition. Cerebral hemorrhage and infarctus are seen more commonly as a complication. We report on a patient who had a non-aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage as a complication of PCA.

Background and Design: In this study, we evaluated anxiety and depression levels, levels of problem solving, focus of control, tendency to anger and quality of life in patients with acne as well as the association between those parameters and the clinical features of acne. Materials and Methods: Fifty-two patients with mild to severe acne vulgaris and 46 healthy controls were enrolled. Acne severity was graded in all patients by a dermatologist. The Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), Problem Solving Inventory (PSI), The State-Trait Anger Scale (STAS), Rotter's Internal-External Focus of Control Scale (RIELCS) and the Short Form 36-Item Health Survey (SF-36) were applied to all participants. Results: In our study, we found out that anxiety and depression scores were significantly higher in patients with acne vulgaris than in controls. In BSI, anxiety disorders, depression, interpersonal sensitivity, and paranoid thoughts scores were significantly higher in patients with acne than in controls. According to SF-36, physical role difficulty, general health and mental health scores were significantly lower in patients with acne. Conclusion: The results of our study support the previous findings suggesting that acne vulgaris leads to various psychiatric problems, such as depression and anxiety and, adversely affects quality of life of patients.

Cadmium, hazardous heavy metal, is recognized to produce severe toxic effects in humans. In this study, intestinal wall surrounding the mesenteric lymph nodes, based on the cadmium to be mainly lymphocytes and plasma cells, granulocytes eozinofil examined effects on the immune system were investigated by histochemical and electron microscope. Electron microscope examination of the cross section of cadmium, mitochondria cristae in the cytoplasm of lymphocytes was observed deterioration in the structure and degenerative changes in dilated endoplasmic reticulum,were seen together with elongation, that a small number of multi-focal granular lymphocytes, but plasma cells and eosinophilic granulocytes of the structures of multi-focal granular structures of various sizes, and their numbers were much higher. El cadmio, es un peligroso metal pesado, reconocido como causante de graves efectos tóxicos en los humanos. En este estudio, se examinaron los efectos del cadmio sobre el sistema inmune en la pared intestinal que rodea a los nódulos linfáticos mesentéricos, principalmente linfocitos, células plasmáticas y granulocitos eosinófilos, mediante técnicas histoquímicas y microscopía electrónica. En el examen mediante microscopía electrónica de la sección transversal de la pared intestinal sometida al cadmio, se observó un deterioro estructural de las crestas mitocondriales en el citoplasma de los linfocitos y cambios degenerativos en el retículo endoplásmico, además fueron vistos con un pequeño número de linfocitos granulares, células plasmáticas y granulocitos eosinófilos con estructuras granulares multifocales de diversos tamaños y más altos.

Nicotine is an alkaloid toxic effects of oral cavity. In this study,14 adult Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 230-260 mg (±10 mg) were used as experimental animal. The rats of experimental group (n=6) were nicotinized systemically with nicotine sulphate, 2mg/kg subcutaneously, daily in period of 28 days. Pulp, alveolar bone tissue, periodontal membrane and gingival epithelial junction were investigated in these regions in incisive teeth longitudinal cross-section. Thinning of the collagen fibers in the pulp tissue, vascular congestion, and inflammatory cell infiltration were observed. Mesenchymal tissues that is stained positive for vimentin lay underneath the epithelium. A strong expression of vimentin can be observed in formed periodontal ligament. La nicotina es un alcaloide con efectos tóxicos sobre la cavidad oral. En este estudio, se utilizaron como animales de experimentación, 14 ratas Sprague-Dawley adultas con un peso entre 230-260 mg (± 10 mg). Las ratas del grupo experimental (n = 6) fueron expuestas a nicotina sistémicamente con sulfato de nicotina, 2mg/kg vía subcutánea al día, durante 28 días. Fueron estudiadas la pulpa, tejido óseo alveolar, membrana periodontal y la unión del epitelio gingival en los dientes incisivos en secciones transversales y longitudinales. Se observó un adelgazamiento de las fibras de colágeno, congestión vascular e infiltración de células inflamatorias en el tejido de la pulpa. Los tejidos mesenquimales que tiñeron positivamente para vimentina se ubicaron debajo del epitelio. Una fuerte expresión de vimentina se pudo observar en el ligamento periodontal.

Pericytes, vessel wall plays a stabilizing role in the regulation of blood flow in the microcirculation. The purpose of this study is based on non-diabetic pregnancies complicated by gestational diabetes pregnancies to investigate the morphological structure of pericyte cells. In this study, as a control group human placental tissues from normotensive pregnancies was collected from diabetic wome at 28-35 weeks of gestation. Pericytes with smooth alpha-actin positive cells, endothelial cells, and painted like a belt was surrounded. Pericytes, capillary plexus and endothelial cells of large vessels in the mesenchyme around the middle shows desmin positive reaction. Placental microvessels examined by transmission electron microscopy showed many pericytes. Placentas of gestational diabetes group, heterochromatin nucleus hypertrophy, dilatation of endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria cristae in length, shortening was observed thickening of the filamentary structure. The contractile function of the barrier formed by endothelial cells, pericytes and can increase the contractions were considered.

Formaldehyde inhalation, are known to be nasal mucosa irritating feature. This study we are examined the effects histopathologic of formaldehyde inhalation on rats by using light microscopy. 16 adult wistar albino rats were used in this study. 8 rats were in control group and 8 rats were in experiment group. Experiment group was exposed to 10 ppm formaldhyde 8hours/day,5days/week for 8 week. Nasal mucosa was removed and placed in 10% formaline. Sections were stained with Hematoxylene-Eosine and observed under light microscopy. The lining epithelium of respiratory mucosa showed a loss of ciliated cells with metaplasia of goblet cells and hyperplasia of squamous cells. Es conocido que la inhalación de formaldehído tiene caraterísticas irritantes para la mucosa nasal. En este estudio se examinaron los efectos histopatológicos de la inhalación de formaldehído en ratas mediante microscopía de luz. Se utilizaron en este estudio 16 ratas Wistar albinas adultas, ocho ratas como grupo control y ocho como grupo experimental. El grupo experimental fue expuesto a 10 ppm formaldehído 8 horas/día, 5 días/semana por 8 semanas. La mucosa nasal fue retirada y colocada en formalina al 10%. Las secciones obtenidas fueron teñidas con Hematoxilina-Eosina y observadas al microscopio óptico. El epitelio de revestimiento de la mucosa respiratoria mostró una pérdida de células ciliadas con metaplasia de las células caliciformes e hiperplasia de células escamosas.
