To assess the awareness and coping skills of the informal and formal caregivers of people living with dementia (PLWD). Dementia is a condition, which leads to memory loss and gradual deterioration of cognitive abilities in the affected person. The lack of awareness regarding the care of people with dementia and the caregivers’ poor coping strategies can negatively impact caregivers’ experiences.

The abuse of older adults is a societal, and legal issue. A person living with dementia is at high risk for abuse due to their physical and cognitive decline. Objectives: This review examined the evidence for interventions to prevent the abuse of people living with dementia in the community. Methods: The articles were retrieved from 2000 to 2023 from six databases, including MEDLINE via PubMed, CINAHL Plus via EBSCO, EMBASE, ProQuest Medical Library, Web of Science, and Scopus. The research articles that focused on finding the effectiveness of interventions for preventing abuse of people living with dementia in community settings were included in this review. The review included randomized controlled trials and pre-test post-test trials only. The quality appraisal of the eligible studies was done using ROB 2 and ROBINS II. The findings were tabulated and narratively synthesised. Results: Out of 1831 articles, only three were included in this review. Only two RCTs were included in this efficacy review. Both the studies showed that the interventions were not effective in reducing abuse. The studies utilised family caregiver interventions like psychological interventions and online supportive education. The review identified psychological interventions with some evidence. Another study was a quasi-experimental study that used dialectical behaviour therapy as an intervention to reduce abuse occurrence. The study showed low evidence and focused only on reporting of elder abuse as an outcome. Conclusion: This review found very few studies and was not able to draw a conclusion on the effectiveness of interventions for abuse in people living with dementia. Given the paucity of research, there is a clear need to identify how to overcome the challenges faced in elder abuse research and further refine the development of approaches to reduce elder abuse among people living with dementia in community settings. Burn-related child abuse represents a critical global health concern, accounting for 180,000 deaths each year, primarily in low- and middle-income countries. Children under five years of age from low-income households are especially at risk, influenced by a range of family-related factors. The severity of burns is frequently associated with suspected abuse, leading to significant emotional trauma. Healthcare providers must improve the use of screening tools to effectively identify instances of abuse. A comprehensive approach that includes prevention, early detection, and targeted interventions is essential for mitigating child abuse and reducing burn injuries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Medication adherence is a crucial component in the management of elderly with co-morbid chronic conditions. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the determinants of medication non-adherence among rural elderly with co-morbid chronic conditions of hypertension (HTN) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in India.Patients and Methods: This cross-sectional study adopted the probability proportional to size (PPS) sampling technique to find the determinants of medication non-adherence among elderly residing in rural coverage areas of five randomly selected primary health centres (PHC) in Udupi district, Karnataka, India. A total of 360 elderly (72 samples from each cluster) who met the inclusion criteria and consented were interviewed using predesigned prevalidated and standardized or reliable tools. The data were coded and entered in SPSS version 16.0 and analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: The study found that 55.6% (n=200) of rural elderly with co-morbid conditions HTN and T2DM were non-adherent to their medications and established Spearman correlation coefficient rank (r) value between undesirable person-related factors (r=− 0.444); good family support (including financial support) (r=0.185); poor accessibility to healthcare facility (r=− 0.209); detrimental medication-related factors including high cost of medication (r=− 0.237) were found to be significant at 0.05 level of confidence (p < 0.05). Further, the study depicted that the chi-square test (χ2) was identified to be significantly associated (p< 0.05) with a variable such as education, knowledge, number of illnesses and impairments, vision, memory, and physical impairments.Conclusion: Medication adherence could be improved among rural elderly with co-morbid conditions by identifying and addressing the determinants at the earliest. Patient load, lack of time and treatment incentives are the major problems faced by healthcare professionals of being outdated and compromising quality of healthcare. Evidence based medicine has an enormous role to play in improving the present situation. Objective of study is to determine attitude, skills and barriers in practice of evidence based medicine among practitioners and pharmacy students. A cross sectional study was conducted. Institutional ethical committee permission, individual institute permission and consent from all the participants were obtained prior to the study. 323 students and 139 practitioner's responses were collected. 99.4 % of the pharmacy students and 94.2 % of practitioners were aware of evidence based medicine and had positive attitude towards evidence based medicine. The level of confidence for doing various tasks related to evidence based practice is varying widely among students. 56.3 % of pharmacy student's concurred lack of time, lack of skills and non-availability of resources were the major barriers in practice. 74.8 % practitioner's agreed that enhancing pharmacy student's knowledge in evidence based medicine will help to solve clinical queries in minimum time. Evidence based medicine practice among the pharmacy students and practitioners showed positive attitude towards evidence based medicine and supported skill development programs such as hands on training, workshops and seminars. Curriculum modifications in all healthcare professional's education according to the current needs are to be incorporated to enhance the patient care quality in this era of information explosion.
