This study presents the synthesis of a multicomponent metal oxide electrocatalyst that increases the activity of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). We synthesized transition metal oxides (MnOx, FeOx, CoOx, and NiOx) with MoO3 heterostructures through a solid-state reaction approach at low cost. In comparison to the other compositions, CoOx garnered higher attention and demonstrated superior performance on account of its large surface area and varied crystal facets. The MnOx-MoO3, FeOx-MoO3, CoOx-MoO3, and NiOx-MoO3 compositions attained an overpotential of 390 mV, 350 mV, 310 mV, and 340 mV, respectively, at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 in alkaline solution. The performance of OER was enhanced in CoOx-MoO3 at 10 mA cm−2, while FeOx-MoO3 exhibited a lower current density at 100 mA cm−2 than other metal oxides. The CoOx-MoO3 material exhibited a favorable crystal interface transition due to the presence of MoO3 oxide. For the first time, we report on the MoO3-to-(MnOx, FeOx, CoOx, and NiOx) interface crystal transition and the active surface area for OER catalytic activity in water-splitting processes. The production of hydrogen through water electrolysis using anion exchange membranes (AEMs) is gaining popularity worldwide due to its cost-effectiveness and efficiency. AEMs play a crucial role in enabling hydroxide (OH–) conduction while preventing fuel crossover, thereby influencing the performance and durability of water electrolysis (WE) systems. This comprehensive review aims to explore recent scientific research on membrane development, specifically focusing on hydrocarbon and fluorocarbon-based AEMs. It analyzes AEMs' physiochemical structures, including morphologies, topologies, surface properties, functional groups, organic components, and thermal stability. AEMs have different characteristics, such as ion exchange capacity, ionic conductivity, water uptake, swelling ratio, mechanical stability, and pH stability, which are also discussed in detail based on their backbone structures. Additionally, the review delves into the current advancements in AEM-based water electrolysis by examining the latest literature on membranes. It also explores the progress in electrocatalysts used in hydrogen production for anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) systems. By discussing the prospects of AEM research and addressing the associated challenges, this review provides insights into the future direction of this field. High-porosity, crystalline, and surface-area-rich metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) may be employed in electrochemical energy applications for active catalysis. MOFs have recently been modified using secondary building blocks, open metal sites with large pore diameters, and functional ligands for electronic conductivity. They have the potential for excellent performance in fuel cell applications, and they have several possibilities to enhance the fundamental characteristics of mass and electron transportation. MOFs may be combined with other materials, such as solitary metal nanoparticles and carbon and nitrogen composites, to increase their catalytic efficacy, especially in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). As a result, this study focuses on MOF derivatives for ORR applications, including porous carbon MOF, single metal MOF-derived composites, metal oxides, and metal phosphides. An efficient MOF electrocatalyst platform for ORR applications is presented, along with its prospects. These initiatives promote promising MOF electrocatalysts for enhancing fuel cell efficiency and pique curiosity for possible growth in subsequent research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: A new kind of alkoxy silane functionalized polymer (ASFP) is synthesized by selectively functionalized carboxyl groups as a novel inorganic precursor polymer to prepare organic‐inorganic hybrid membrane for vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) system. The novel hybrid membrane has been fabricated by interconnection between hydrophilic domains of Nafion and ASFP functional group. The effective concentration of ASFP for hybrid membrane is 25% (wt/wt). The proton conductivity and selectivity of the hybrid membrane are comparable with those of the Nafion212 membrane, which is mainly attributed by the presence of additional hydrophilic domains in the hybrid membrane. The proton conductivity and ion exchange capacity of the Nafion‐ASFP (75:25) membrane is 0.061 S/cm and 0.68 meq/g, respectively. Remarkably, the Nafion‐ASFP membrane shows a low vanadium permeability (1.259 × 10−7 cm2/min) and high selectivity, which is an excellent advantage. As a result, the hybrid membrane shows comparable efficiency performance with Nafion212 over 50 cycles. Notably, the VRFB unit cell with Nafion‐ASFP membrane achieves higher coulombic efficiency than Nafion212. The hybrid membrane reveals a new route to develop an alternative fluorinated polymer membrane with numerous advantages especially cost‐effectiveness, homogeneous dispersion of inorganic silica precursor materials in the hybrid membrane without deterioration of mechanical strength, and lower vanadium ion crossover for VRFB system.
