In this work, we fabricated an Ag/Bi7O9I3 composite and tested the composite for the photodegradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye under UV–vis light irradiation. XRD, FESEM, TEM, UV–visible absorbance, XPS studies, ESR, and electrochemical analysis were used to characterize the synthesized photocatalysts. The synthesized catalyst displayed a maximum degradation efficiency of 98.45% in the 150-min experiment, which is nearly 1.56 times higher than Bi7O9I3. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of Ag/Bi7O9I3 is attributed to the acceleration of charge separation and transfer of charge carriers with the inclusion of Ag. The improvement in photocatalytic efficiency of Ag/Bi7O9I3 can be attributed to Ag deposition, which acts as an electron sink to avoid recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Additionally, Ag nanoparticles may show plasmonic resonance producing more electron–hole pairs in Bi7O9I3. Furthermore, a variety of tests were carried out on Ag/Bi7O9I3 in order to clarify how different factors affect the photodegradation efficiency. The medium with pH = 3, catalyst loading = 35 mg, and Rhodamine B concentration = 10 ppm resulted in highest activity. Using a radical scavenging experiment and ESR studies, the effective radicals in promoting dye degradation have been identified, and ·O2− radicals turned out to be the main radicals in promoting photocatalysis. In the contemporary era marked by pressing environmental and energy challenges, there is a growing imperative to create effective and eco-friendly approaches to combat pollution and promote the generation of clean and green energy. One such strategy that has attracted much interest recently is the photocatalytic generation of green energy and pollutant removal. Numerous photocatalysts have been created to treat water and generate clean energy. Zn-Ti LDH materials are two-dimensional materials that have unique physical and chemical properties, making them promising photocatalysts. Zn-Ti LDHs have a distinctive layered structure that makes them extremely adaptable for photocatalytic applications. This structure also provides large surface areas, customisable compositions, and abundant active sites. However, Zn–Ti LDH has a low solar energy efficiency because it is primarily triggered by ultraviolet light, which makes up around 5% of sunshine. Therefore, this investigation aims to provide a thorough summary of the latest advancements in the modification of the materials based on Zinc-Titanium Layered Double Hydroxides (Zn-Ti LDHs) for a broad spectrum of photocatalytic uses. This study also covers the fabrication methods for Zn-Ti LDHs and the creation of heterojunctions and composites based on Zn-Ti LDHs. Additionally, it delves into the mechanisms underlying the degradation of pollutants and the generation of clean energy. We have highlighted the potential for new prospects, existing challenges, and progress in this context. Due to the ultra-high efficiency, environmental compatibility, structural/chemical stability, and effective usage of active metal centres, new single-atom catalysts, particularly single-atom carbon-based nano-photocatalysts, are promising "materials" for environmental remediations. Owing to their outstanding structure and features, like enormous activity, the selectivity, maximal atom usage, and improved intrinsic catalytic activity, single-atom catalyst has piqued researchers' interest. There is a wide class of carbon-based nanomaterials family which can be explored for the stabilization of single-atom catalysts. The carbon and carbon-based nanomaterials provide an excellent substrate for anchoring metal/metal oxide single-atom catalysts because of low-cost production, excellent conductivity, high surface area and functionality and tunable properties. The single-atom catalyst-based materials have found applications in electrocatalyis, hydrogen generation, carbon dioxide conversion and catalytic transformations. However, limited work has been done on utilizing carbon supported single-atom catalysts for high-performance removal/degradation of broad range of noxious organic and inorganic contaminants from water. Low coordination states, quantum size effects, and strong interactions with metals in nano-dimensions give them these features, which have proven to be particularly resilient in photocatalysis. In this paper, various methodologies for the manufacture of carbon-based single-atom catalysts are described. Then, in terms of comprehending the electrical and geometric properties of catalysts based on a single carbon atom, current developments in various characterization techniques and computer achievements were summarised. Meanwhile, aquatic pollution is being tackled using catalysts based on single carbon atom photocatalysts. The materials based on single-atom catalysts anchored/supported on to carbon materials based materials as carbon, carbon quantum dots, graphene, carbon nitride, etc. have been discussed. Finally, the prospects for their development, along with future prospects, are explored. Since the growing need for fuel is causing major harm to the environment, it is essential to introduce photocatalytic energy conversion devices that are safe for the environment. One such strategy is the utilisation of photocatalytic water-splitting devices to achieve sustainable hydrogen production. In order for these devices to operate optimally, it is imperative to utilise materials that possess the capability to properly capture sunlight. Porphyrins are significant molecules that can be found all over nature as units that absorb visible light. Energy conversion devices can benefit from porphyrins' multifunctional features, including their easy fabrication, excellent chemical constancy, plentiful metallic active sites, adaptable crystalline structure, and high specific surface area. They can produce charge-transfer excited states with or without a cocatalyst and make it easier to transfer energy and move rapid excited energy. These properties, along with their ease of synthesis, make them excellent starting materials for porous metal-organic framework-based photocatalysts that convert solar energy into usable fuels. This article provides an overview of the synthesis as well as designing of porphyrin-based MOFs. The effect of metal in porphyrin besed MOFs and two bridging ligands are summarized briefly. In this article, the photocatalytic applications of porpyrin based MOFs and composites as photocatalysts, such as the hydrogen evolution process and photodegradation of organic contaminants are discussed. In conclusion, the bottlenecks that need to be overcome and some potential solutions for the ongoing research and development of porphyrin-based MOF photocatalysts are discussed. The reliability of an industrial system plays a significant role in new technological era where everyone is concerned about the performance of associated industry. With the frequent demands of the customers, the job of the production industries becomes more tedious to produce the required products at a high rate. To fulfill the customer's demand, the initial focus of the industries is to work well without any interruption/failure in the entire production process. In this paper, Reliability, Availability, MTTF, MTTR, MTBF, ENOF is proposed for an industrial system namely "Injection moulding machine". For this, the membership function for right triangular generalized fuzzy numbers (RTrGFN) is proposed with the certain level of confidence. The real data of the Injection moulding machine is taken to validate the proposed methodology. The input data is extracted from the records/maintenance sheets of several years and found uncertainty due to the loss of any information or human mistakes. The parameters of the system like failure rate and repair time is retrieved. Based on data, AND-OR combination for the system is constructed. The lambda-tau methodology along with RTrGFN and its corresponding arithmetic operations is used for the performance analysis of the considered "Injection moulding machine". For better understanding the results are discussed with the aid of graphs. Also after seeing the result one can conclude that this methodology is one of the best methodology for the performance analysis of a conventional system. The widespread use of organic dyes that are discharged into wastewater from many sectors continues to be a top environmental issue today. The UV–Visible light driven photocatalytic environmental purification is a highly promising field, and spinel ferrites are the prime applicant for waste water purification. In this work, pure phase cobalt doped Mg–Zn nanoferrites with a composition of Mg0.5Zn0.4Co0.1Fe2O4, Mg0.4Zn0.5Co0.1Fe2O4, and Mg0.5Zn0.5Co0.1Fe1.9O4 were fabricated using economic and facile combustion process. The prepared catalysts were caharcteriazed for structural, optical and magnetic properties. The catalyst Z5C1 exhibits 97.76% crystal violet degradation in 90 min under UV–Visible light. The superior photocatalytic efficiency of the Z5C1 catalyst is attributed to the lowest charge carrier recombination rate and moderate band gap of the catalysts. The scavenging experiments revealed the role of holes as reactive species in the catalytic degradation of crystal violet dye. The reusability investigations and simplicity of magnetic separation of the manufactured catalyst show that catalysts have the potential to degrade crystal violet dye and other organic contaminants. Significant ecosystem damage and severe environmental issues have surfaced due to unplanned exploitation of resources and industrial expansion. The water bodies are continuously polluted by numerous organic dyes released from industrial effluents. In this work, we report construction of new g-C 3 N 5 /Bi 24 O 31 Br 10 S-scheme heterojunction for UV–visible light driven superior organic dye degradation. The integrated heterojunction with high interfacial charge transfer exhibited excellent 99.08% (∼100%) within 60 min exposure which is manifolds higher than bare g-C 3 N 5 and Bi 24 O 31 Br 10. The mechanistic investigations showed that the key active radicals in photocatalytic CV degradation are the •O 2 - and h+. Building an S-scheme model with favourable energy band structure encourages efficient separation of charges while maintaining the inherent redox capacity of the g-C 3 N 5 /Bi 24 O 31 Br 10 catalyst, which is highly beneficial for superior photocatalytic performance. This work focuses on enhancing the photocatalytic activity of Co1−xZnxFe2O4 (cobalt-zinc nanoferrite) via peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation for high-performance sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) degradation. The optimal Co0.7Zn0.3Fe2O4 (C2) sample led to the best photocatalytic performance for PMS activation under visible light. The photoluminescence and electrochemical impedance measurements confirmed the higher charge separation for C2 catalyst. The radical quenching and ESR tests revealed that SO4−• and •OH radicals were the dominant reactive species with little contribution from singlet oxygen for SSA degradation. The presence of Fe3+/Fe2+ and Co3+/Co2+ redox cycles enhanced the PMS activation to a great extent. Interestingly, the hydroxyl radicals were generated via the PMS activation route and contributed to degradation. As a result, photocatalysis and PMS activation complemented one another and improved performance. The best catalyst was also tested for the photocatalytic activity coupled with PMS activation for other pollutants including bisphenol A, tetracycline, rhodamine B, and 2,4-dichlorophenol. Additionally, due to their strong ferromagnetism and stability, the ferrites can be readily isolated magnetically from treated waste water, indicating their potential application in large-scale wastewater treatment for various contaminants. Antibiotic water contamination is a growing environmental problem in the present day. As a result, water treatment is required for its reduction and elimination. Due to their important role in resolving this issue, photocatalysts have drawn a great deal of interest over the past few decades. When non-biodegradable organic matter is present in polluted water, the photo catalytic process, which is both environmentally friendly and an improved oxidation method, can be an effective means of remediation. In this regard, we report the successful synthesis of pure phased rare earth doped ZnO nanoparticles for tetracycline degradation. The prepared catalysts were systematically characterized for structural, optical, and magnetic properties. The optical band gap was tailored by rare earth doping, with redshift for Sm and Dy doped nanoparticles and blueshift for Nd doped ZnO nanoparticles. The analysis of photoluminescence spectra revealed information about the defect chemistry of all synthesised nanoparticles. Magnetic studies revealed that all synthesized diluted magnetic semiconductors exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism and can be employed for spintronic applications. Moreover, Dy doped ZnO nanoparticles were found to exhibit a maximum degradation efficiency of 74.19% for tetracycline (TCN) removal. The synthesized catalysts were also employed for the degradation of Malachite green (MG), and Crystal violet (CV) dyes. The maximum degradation efficiency achieved was 97.18% for MG and 98% for CV for Dy doped ZnO nanoparticles. Constructing visible-light-active Z-scheme heterojunctions has proven fruitful in enhancing the photocatalytic activity of photocatalysts for superior water clean-up. Herein, we report the fabrication of a CoFe2O4@Bi2O3/NiO (CBN) Z-scheme nanoheterojunction. The obtained CBN heterojunction was used for visible-light-assisted degradation of ofloxacin (OFL) in water. The OFL degradation efficiency achieved by the CBN heterojunction was 95.2% in 90 min with a rate constant of kapp = 0.03316 min−1, which was about eight times that of NiO and thirty times that of CoFe2O4. The photocatalytic activity of a Bi2O3/NiO Z-scheme heterojunction was greatly enhanced by the visible activity and redox mediator effect of the cobalt ferrite co-catalyst. Higher charge-carrier separation, more visible-light capture, and the Z-scheme mechanism in the Z-scheme system were the important reasons for the high performance of CBN. The scavenging experiments suggested ●O2− as an active species for superior OFL degradation. The possible OFL degradation pathway was predicted based on LC-MS findings of degradation intermediate products. The magnetic nature of the CBN helped in the recovery of the catalyst after reuse for six cycles. This work provides new insights into designing oxide-based heterojunctions with high visible-light activity, magnetic character, and high redox capabilities for potential practical applications in environmental treatment. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the performance of a turbine structure of the oil and gas Egyptian company in terms of reliability, mean time to failure (MTTF), mean time to repair (MTTR) and mean time between failures (MTBF) under fuzzy environment and working criteria. This paper examines the impact of the failure of various components on the complete turbine structure of the oil and gas system. Design/methodology/approach: To overcome the problem of uncertain behavior of available data for various components, the right triangular generalized fuzzy number (RTrGFN) is proposed to be taken into the account to express the uncertainty which attains some tolerance in data. Furthermore, reliability indices are calculated with the help of the Lambda Tau method and the arithmetic operations on right generalized triangular fuzzy numbers (RTrGFN). Findings: This paper explores the reliability of a repairable 3 out of 4 structure of turbines and along with the other parameters namely MTTF, MTTR and MTBF; under a fuzzy environment. Failure rates and repair times are expected to be exponential. The ranking of components of the structure is being found to decide the priority for maintenance. Originality/value: This paper investigates the performance of the system with different spread/tolerance like 15%, 25% and 50% of crisp data. It helps to predict realistic results in the range value. To enhance the system's performance, the most important item of the system requires greater attention. For this, the authors find the sensitive part by ranking. For ranking, an extended approach has been developed to find the sensitive unit of the system by using the right triangular generalized fuzzy number. Vitamin B12 and folate deficiency leads to accumulation of homocysteine that increases the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes like preterm birth and low birth weight (LBW) of the neonate. We explored the association of genetic variants of key vitamin B12 and folate metabolising enzymes (MTHFR C677T and A1298C, MTR A2756G, TCN-2 C776G) with preterm birth and LBW in South Indian women. MTHFR A1298C heterozygotes (AC) were at higher risk for preterm delivery, whereas TCN-2 C776G heterozygotes (CG) were at higher risk for both preterm delivery and LBW. MTHFR C677T, A1298C and MTR A2756G haplotype CAG was protective for preterm delivery (p=.036, OR = 0.475; 95% CI: 0.233–0.97), whereas, haplotype CCG increasing the risk of preterm birth by 1.8 folds (p=.018, OR = 1.81; 95% CI: 1.09–2.98). These results underscore the significance of vitamin B12 and folate in the pathophysiology of preterm birth and LBW. What is already known on this subject? Polymorphisms of vitamin B12 and folate metabolising genes have been reported to influence preterm birth and LBW, but the reports are not consistent. What do the results of this study add? We observed a relationship of MTHFR A1298C and TCN-2 C776G with preterm birth, and significant association of TCN-2 C776G with LBW in infants. Energy shortage and escalating pollution are major challenges globally. Heterogeneous photocatalysis is one of the most cost-effective methods for producing renewable energy and removing pollutants. In particular, ZnO nanostructures are promising photocatalysts that are economic, stable, and biologically safe. ZnO-based nanoheterostructures have been used for heavy metal reduction, organic pollutants degradation, photocatalytic hydrogen production, and drug mineralization. Here, we review ZnO-based nanoheterojunctions as photocatalysts for hydrogen production and pollutant degradation. Hydrogen production has reached 1200 mol g−1 h−1 using Ce-doped ZnO/ZnS heterojunction, with a 8.5-fold higher efficiency than bare ZnO. Nearly complete removal of a dye pollutant was achieved in 15 min using hybrid ethyl cellulose-modified g-C3N4/ZnO. Moreover, ZnO/Ag2WO4/Fe3O4 showed a 152% and 143% higher antibiotic degradation rate than bare Ag2WO4 and ZnO, respectively. We present methods to modify ZnO, including coupling with other semiconductors, metal/non-metal doping, and carbon-based materials coupling; and methods for charge divergence in binary and ternary ZnO-based nanocomposites. In the current study, g-C3N4/Fe-MOF was synthesised and utilised for the elimination of antibiotic contaminants from wastewater. There are two steps followed for the fabrication of g-C3N4/Fe-MOF i.e. pyrolysis and solvothermal method. The proximity of g-C3N4 and Fe-MOF was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis of as-prepared samples. The developed photocatalyst was tested for tetracycline degradation. Remarkable photocatalytic activity for tetracycline under visible light irradiation is demonstrated by the g-C3N4/Fe-MOF photocatalyst. In comparison to bare g-C3N4 and Fe-MOF, the g-C3N4/Fe-MOF (G4) demonstrates significantly stronger photocatalytic activity. The best degradation efficiency of 87.12% was achieved at optimized reaction conditions with TC concenteration-25 ppm, catalyst dosage-40 mg and pH-5.5. The enhanced photocatalytic activity is because of the direct Z-scheme heterojunction formed between g-C3N4 & Fe-MOF, which allows for easier separation of photoinduced charge. The investigation also represented an analysis of the prevailing active species and potential photocatalytic mechanism. Finally, the study concludes that the optimized nanocomposite, consisting of g-C3N4/Fe-MOF, exhibited significant biocompatibility as seen by the development of barley seeds in the resultant solution after the degradation process. Spinel ferrites with a compatible electronic band structure are always excellent candidates for photo-catalytic environmental detoxification employing visible light and solar energy. However, the potential is not harnessed to its fullest owing to unnerving charge carrier recombination. In this work, we report the synthesis of Ni 1-x Zn x Fe 2 O 4 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.3, & 0.5) mixed spinel ferrites via combustion route. As prepared samples were characterized for phase identification using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Reitveld refined pattern confirms the formation of single phased cubic structure with a nano-metric crystallite size. The homogeneous distribution of grains and particles is evidenced by shape and size morphological studies. Raman spectroscopy reveals the presence of motion of oxygen in tetrahedral and octahedral voids. The dc electrical resistivity measured using the two probe method is found to be in the range of 107 to 108 Ω-cm. The optical band gap measured for all photo-catalysts resides at 2.11–2.53 eV. The ferrite photocatalyst exhibits high visible absorption, superior charge transfer capacity, and highly suppressed recombination as suggested by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and photoluminescence results. The change in band structure with variable Zn content was monitored by shifting of conduction and valence bands. The photo-catalyst Ni 0.7 Zn 0.3 Fe 2 O 4 (N2) exhibited 96.8% levofloxacin (LEV) degradation in 90 min of visible light exposure. The effect of parameters such as pH, catalyst dosage, electrolytes and water matrix was analysed in detail. The photo-catalytic degradation rate was enhanced in the presence of persulfate and H 2 O 2. Furthermore, the high magnetic character of the catalysts aids in their retrieval post utilization in catalysis. In terms of band structure analysis, role of dopants, metal redox, and scavenging studies, a suitable photo-catalytic process was proposed. Degradation intermediates discovered by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis were also recommended as a pathway of degradation. The fabrication of environmentally friendly materials for wastewater remediation represents a promising approach. Thus, we present the fabrication of nanostructured CoFe2O4 (CF) particles entangled within a hydrogel-based matrix composed of carboxy methyl cellulose-psyllium-RGO (CPRHG/CF). The functionality, composition, and nature of the fabricated composite were characterized using FTIR, XRD, and XPS techniques. Furthermore, the internal and surface morphology was analyzed through FE-SEM and HR-TEM imaging. To assess the photo activity, UV-Vis and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were employed, confirming that CPRHG/CF exhibits significant potential for light absorption in the visible spectrum while minimizing the charge recombination rate. The fabricated CPR/CFHG composite hydrogel was employed for the removal of pharmaceutical effluent, tramadol (TMD), via both adsorption and photocatalysis processes. In batch adsorption experiments lasting 2 hours, the composite hydrogel demonstrated impressive adsorption efficiency of 92.93% and a maximum adsorption capacity of 89.97 mg g-1. Subsequently, during photocatalytic treatment under 1 h of solar illumination, approximately 90.36% of the TMD was successfully degraded. The degradation process followed a pseudo-firstorder kinetics model with a rate constant (k1) of 0.0380 min-1. Furthermore, the investigation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has identified superoxide radicals (O2 -) as the major species responsible for the degradation process, which was confirmed through radical scavenging experiments. Classical sets are used commonly to consider reliability. Because of the uncertainty in the data (which considered in the present paper) classical sets fail to describe the reliability accurately. Uncertainty leads to fluctuation in the actual situation of the structure. Fuzzy logic method attempts to test system reliability with the benefit of membership function. Within this context, specific problems of reasoning-based approaches are studied, explored and correlated with standard reliability approaches. In this paper Generalized Trapezoidal Fuzzy numbers (GTrFN) are used to assess the structure's fuzzy reliability. The reliability of each event is assigned with different level of satisfaction and some improved operations on the generalized trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (GTrFN) are used to calculate the fuzzy boundaries for the resultant reliability of the final event along with the degree of satisfaction. Also the results are compared to demonstrate the application of the improved operations on Generalized Trapezoidal Fuzzy Numbers (GTrFN). Background: Vitamin B12 is an essential micronutrient for neurological function, as it leads to the regeneration of methionine from homocysteine, which is precursor of biologically active molecule S-Adenosyl Methionine (SAM). Pregnancy is a state of increased demand and delayed postpartum repletion of nutrients may predispose women to depression.Methods: We included women who visited the hospital at 6-weeks postpartum for a regular checkup. Inclusion criteria were age (18-50 years), and willingness to donate venous sample for analysis. Exclusion criteria included previous history of mood disorders or antidepressant medication use, and any systemic illness like hypothyroidism, epilepsy, diabetes, and hypertension. Based on EPDS score of 10 as a cutoff, 217 women with probable postpartum depression (PPD) and equal number of age and BMI matched controls were included. Plasma total vitamin B12, holotranscobalamin (holotc), homocysteine (hcy), methyl malonic acid (MMA), 5-methyl tetrahydrofolate (THF), SAM and serotonin levels were estimated using commercially available ELISA kits. Combined B12 (cB12) score was calculated from study parameters. Multivariate analysis was performed to assess the risk of probable postpartum depression.Results: Total vitamin B12 and combined B12 score were found to be significantly lower (p = 0.001) and MMA (p = 0.002) and 5-methyl THF (p < 0.001) levels were higher in women with probable depression than women without probable PPD. Women in the lowest vitamin B12 quartile had 4.53 times higher likelihood of probable postpartum depression (p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that decreasing vitamin B12 (OR = 0.394; 95% CI: 0.189-0.822) and cB12 (OR = 0.293; 95% CI: 0182-0.470) and increasing MMA (OR = 2.14; 95% CI: 1.63-2.83) and 5-methyl THF levels (OR = 3.29; 95% CI: 1.59-6.83) were significantly associated with the risk of probable PPD.Conclusion: Low vitamin B12 may contribute to depressive symptoms in vulnerable postpartum period. The fast development of urbanisation and industrialisation has led to a rise in nitrogen oxide (NO x) emissions, specifically nitric oxide (NO). One effective method for reducing the harmful effects of this dangerous air pollutant on both human health and the environment is the photocatalytic oxidation of NO. Z-scheme heterojunctions enhance incident light utilisation and increase photocatalytic activity, eventually leading to better NO oxidation performance by encouraging the effective separation of charges and migration. A comprehensive discussion of Z-scheme-based heterojunctions is provided in this review paper, with a focus on their applications in the photocatalytic oxidation of NO. Significant progress has been made in the fabrication of efficient photocatalytic devices in recent years, with Z-scheme-based heterojunctions proving to be particularly successful. The review looks into the various methodologies used to create Z-scheme-based heterojunctions as well as photocatalytic NO oxidation mechanisms. Recent studies on photocatalysts employing Z-scheme heterojunctions for the photocatalytic oxidation of NO are also discussed. We report the fabrication of a novel waste-derived biochar-impregnated Bi 5 O 7 Br/Fe 3 O 4 (WBF) magnetic composite for photocatalytic removal of malachite green pollutant. The newly prepared catalyst was applied for the removal of malachite green dye under visible light irradiation. It was found that the composite degrades 99.39% MG dye within 20 min of the experiment as compared to Bi 5 O 7 Br, Fe 3 O 4, and biochar with 83.19%, 75.09%, and 55.47% in the 50-min experiment. The findings demonstrated that a photocatalytic integrated composite quickly transfers charges across surfaces and effectively separates electron-hole pairs, considerably increasing charge carrier separation and photocatalytic activity. Further, the kinetics show that the rate constant for WBF composite is 7.1 times higher than that observed for Bi 5 O 7 Br. Scavenging experiments reveal the huge role of.OH and •O 2 − radicals in malachite green degradation. Additionally, the magnetic nature of the catalyst ensures the easy separation of the catalyst during photocatlytic experiments and reduces the chance of secondary pollution. The results showed that integrating Bi 5 O 7 Br and biochar with Fe 3 O 4 to create photocatalytic composites is a very efficient strategy to boost photocatalytic activity for environmental waste water treatment. Moreover, the slightly basic environment was found to be favourable for optimizing the degradation efficiency of the catalyst, as confirmed by the pH variation experiment. The scavenging experiments were utilized to reveal the most prominent role of hydroxyl radicals in the degradation of Amoxicillin. Additionally, a mere 10.97% reduction in degradation efficiency was observed after fours cycles of degradation experiment. The plausible pathway of amoxicillin degradation has been included into this study as well. Focussing on visible light active ferrites for high performance removal of noxious pollutants, we report the synthesis of Mg 0.5 Ni x Zn 0.5-x Fe 2 O 4 (x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, & 0.5) ferrite nanoparticle for degradation of reactive blue-19 (RB-19). Lattice parameters calculated using intense X-ray diffraction (XRD) peaks and Nelson-Riley plots (N-R plot) are in well agreement with each other. The sample Mg 0.5 Ni 0.4 Zn 0.1 Fe 2 O 4 (M5N4) exhibits best performance with 99.5% RB-19 degradation in 90 min under visible light. Photoluminescence (PL) results confirm that recombination of charge carriers is highly reduced in the photocatalyst. Scavenging experiments suggest that O 2 − radicals were the dominant species responsible for photocatalytic performance. The photocatalytic mechanism was explained in terms of dopant driven shifting of conduction bands and valence bands (calculated by Mott-Schottky plots). The thermodynamic probability of radical generation along with role of redox cycles of metal ions has been discussed in the mechanism. In the present work, we report the ferromagnetic (Fe, Ni) co-doped Zn1-x-yNiyFexO (y = 0.01 and x = 0.01, 0.03, 0.05) thin films fabricated through the RF magnetron sputtering on Silicon (400) substrate. Structural studies of prepared thin films through X-ray Diffraction (XRD) reveal the formation of a single-phased hexagonal structure of films. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) confirms the decrease in surface roughness with the increase in Fe doping. The optical band gap of the thin films analyzed through the UV–Vis spectroscopy suggests the appropriateness of prepared thin films to be utilized in optoelectronic devices. The magnetic study of these thin films confirmed the room temperature ferromagnetic (RTFM) behavior for prepared thin films. In recent times cost-effective advanced materials with dual applications in photocatalytic water treatment and electrochemical sensing have been explored and developed. Herein we report facile solution combustion synthesis of ZnO/Fe 2 O 3 (ZF) type-II heterojunction for electrochemical sensing of dopamine and visible assisted photocatalytic reduction of carcinogenic Cr(VI) into Cr(III). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) were used to evaluate the compatibility of the electrodes for DA sensing. Furthermore, DPV curves revealed that ZF2 (ZnO: Fe 2 O 3 - 3:0.5) modified GCEs possessed 0.27 μM and 0.7 μM of LOD and LOQ with good linear range from 3 μM to 30 μM. Overall, reproducibility and interference studies confirm the efficient use of material for DA sensing. The junction ZF2 shows best performance with 88% Cr(VI) photo-reduction under visible light in 90 min and 100% reduction with tartaric acid as sacrificial agent (utilizing holes) in just 45 min. The effect of sacrificial agents and scavengers suggest the photogenerated electrons were major active species followed by ●O 2 −. The CB edges have enough potential for rapid reduction of hexavalent chromium under visible light and solar light. The photoluminescence and electrochemical impedance suggest lowered recombination, high charge separation and charge transfer capacity in the heterojunction. The transfer of electrons from conduction band of Fe 2 O 3 to that of ZnO having high enough negative potential to reduce Cr(VI), thus utilizing the CB potential of wide band gap ZnO for rapid visible photocatalysis. In addition shortcomings as low conductivity Fe 2 O 3 and high band gap of ZnO are both minimized in the junction. Growing industrialization and urbanization generate greater quantities of wastewater, which is constantly thrown into the surroundings. A number of dangerous contaminants like heavy metals, dyes, pesticides, antibiotics, and microbes are discharged into aquatic environments. Around the world, more than 80% of wastewater is discharged into the environment without being adequately treated. While environmental pollution is still increasing because of the increased percentage of polluting sectors, traditional methods of cleaning the environment are ineffective and costly. Recently, research has concentrated on designing 2D nanomaterials for environmental applications. MXenes and MXene based materials have drawn considerable interest and are now being investigated as novel substrate materials for a variety of applications because of their tuneable interlayer spacing and tailorable surface chemistry. This review discusses the fabrication methods, characterization methods, MXene derived materials, functionalization, toxicity, the multifunctional role of MXene, and applications of MXene based materials for CO 2 reduction, H 2 generation, and wastewater treatment systems. Introduction: Gestational impaired glucose tolerance (GIGT) is a milder form of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), which is often poorly managed. Although, GDM is known to be associated with increased incidence of thyroid dysfunction, no study has been done to study the effect of GIGT on thyroid status and its effect on fetal outcome. Here, we carried out a study to assess thyroid function and glycemic status in both maternal and cord blood of the subjects with GIGT, and to find their association with the fetal outcome. Materials and methods: Women who came to the hospital for safe confinement during 37-40th weeks of gestation were recruited in the study. Based on the 2 hours post prandial blood glucose levels with 75 grams OGTT, done at 24-28 weeks of gestation, all the subjects were stratified into two groups: (1) Cases or GIGT group - women with blood glucose levels between 120 and 140 mg/dl and (2) Controls - women with blood glucose levels of less than 120 mg/dl. Three milliliters of venous blood was collected from mothers and 3 ml of cord blood was collected during delivery. New-borns were assessed for birth weight, head circumference, abdominal circumference, thigh circumference, and crown-heel length. Glycated hemoglobin was carried out using immunoturbidimetry (DiaSys Diagnostic Systems GmbH, Holzheim, Germany) and fructosamine was estimated using dye binding method (Biosystems, Spain). Estimation of total T3 (TT3), free T3 (FT3), total T4 (TT4), free T4 (FT4), and TSH was done by chemiluminescence in Siemens Advia Centaur CP using competitive immunoassay. Results: Although within the normal reference range, GIGT mothers had higher concentration of free and total T4 than controls. Cord fructosamine levels were significantly higher in babies of GIGT mothers than controls, indicating the reflection of maternal hyperglycemia. There was a positive correlation between the maternal glycated hemoglobin and cord blood fructosamine in the GIGT group. Statistically significant lower levels of total T3 and T4 with high TSH levels were found in babies with GIGT mothers, indicating the suppressive effect of maternal hyperglycemia on fetal thyroid function. Birth weight, head circumference, and thigh circumference were significantly higher in babies born to mothers with GIGT, which may be a combined effect of maternal hyperglycemia and fetal thyroid suppression. Conclusions: Maternal hyperglycemia, even in milder form of GIGT may cause suppression of fetal thyroid function. Over the years, there has been a surge in interest in the use of photocatalysts for the removal of organic pollutants in wastewater. In this work, we report the successful fabrication of magnetic Co 0.75 Zn 0.25 Fe 2 O 4 /g-C 3 N 4 nano hybrids for wastewater treatment. The produced photo catalysts were used to decompose methylene blue dye. SEM, elemental mapping, XPS, Raman, and UV–visible spectroscopy were used to validate the successful creation of the nanohybrid structure. The catalysts were synthesized in three different ferrite/graphitic carbon nitride ratios and employed for the optimization of maximum photo degradation efficiency against methylene blue dye. The optimal A1 (50%Co 0.75 Zn 0.25 Fe 2 O 4 /50%g-C 3 N 4) photo catalyst exhibited excellent degradation efficiency of 99.34% for methylene blue removal in 60 min experiment. The integration of both components in a nanohybrid favours charge separation with efficient Z-scheme charge transport via redox mediators. Scavenging investigations provide credence to superoxide and hydroxyl radicals as reactive species in MB breakdown. Currently, the photocatalytic nanomaterials performing under solar radiation have gained worldwide attentions due to increasing environmental deterioration. For utilizing the sunlight for degradation of emerging pollutants it is important to develop visible active photocatalysts. This laboratory scale work reports magnetic and optically active nano-photocatalyst Fe x Zn 1−x O(x = 0.01, 0.03, 0.05) synthesized by solution combustion method. High resolution transmission microscopy suggests a slight degradation in the crystallite structure with Fe doping. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis shows the presence of intrinsic defects in the crystal structure. Zn resides in +2 and and Fe in +3 oxidation state. Optical band gap studies were made with band structure for each doped sample. The photoctalytic activity of the samples was tested by solar degradation of noxious pollutant Bisphenol A. 99.1% of bisphenol was degraded in 90min in presence of Fe 0.03 Zn 0.97 O under synergistic adsorption and photocatalysis. The results were analyzed in terms of total organic carbon, chemical oxygen demand, effect of scavengers, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and reusability. In presence of Fe 0.03 Zn 0.97 O, 45.3% of total organic carbon was removed and chemical oxygen demand was reduced to 11.2%. A possible mechanism with structures of the intermediates has been given. Effect of scavengers reveal that hydroxyl radicals are major reactive oxygen species involved which is also supported by the band edge positions. The research work promises to design highly photo-active tuneable magnetic photocatalysts for solar powered degradation of contaminants of emerging concern with a simple and cost-effective approach. In the present work, mixed-spinel ferrite anchored onto graphitic carbon nitride (GCN) was synthesized for mineralization of antibiotic pollutant from waste water. A Z-scheme g-C 3 N 4 /Ni 0.5 Zn 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 nano heterojunction was fabricated by three step procedure: pyrolysis, solution combustion and mechanical grinding followed by annealing. The prepared photocatlyst was tested for degradation of Doxycycline (DC) drug under the natural sun light. Results revealed that the prepared heterojunction has maximum degradation efficiency of 97.10% pollutant in 60 min experiment. The Z-scheme heterojunction between g-C 3 N 4 and Ni–Zn ferrite improves the photoinduced charges separation and protection of redox capability and therby increases the photo degradation efficiency. The scavenging experiments suggested that O 2 −● and h+ as main active species responsible for degradation of the antibiotic. In addition, the dopant variation can drive the shists in band gap and energy band positiong too which makes then excellent candidates for synthesizing tunable heterostructures with organic semiconductors. In this paper, we report the fabrication and systematic characterization of Fe Doped ZnO thin Films. Fe x Zn 1− x O ( x =0<0.05) films were prepared by RF magnetron sputtering on Si (400) substrate. Influence of Fe doping on structural, optical and magnetic properties has been studied. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis shows that Fe doping has affected the crystalline structure, grain size and strain in the thin films. The best crystalline structure is obtained for 3% Fe Doping as observed from Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The magnetic properties studied using Vibrating Sample Magnetometer reveals the room temperature ferromagnetic nature of the thin films. We evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of activin B in discriminating tubal ectopic pregnancy (tEP) from intrauterine miscarriages (IUM), and normal viable intrauterine pregnancy (IUP). We included 28 women with tEP, 31 women with IUM, and 29 normal IUP, confirmed both by clinical examination and ultrasonography. Serum activin B concentration was measured at the time of admission using the ELISA kit. The median serum activin B concentration was found to be significantly decreased in both tEP (p = 0.004) and IUM (p = 0.022) compared to normal IUP. When compared between tEP and IUM, activin B concentrations did not differ significantly. ROC analysis of activin B and free β-hCG demonstrated AUC of 0.722 and 0.805, respectively to discriminate tEP from viable IUP. The model including both activin B and free β-hCG improved the discriminating potential with greater AUC (0.824), and specificity (93%) than individual one. To discriminate tEP from IUM, activin B, free β-hCG and combination of both performed poorly. We conclude that serum activin B concentration is lower in tubal ectopic pregnancy, and can discriminate it from normal pregnancy with moderate accuracy. Co0.6Zn0.4Fe2O4 nanomagnetic system is prepared by solution combustion method. The powder sample is characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope analysis (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Mössbauer spectroscopy, and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID; at low and room temperatures). The average crystallite sizes of the prepared samples obtained from XRD is 22 nm, which is well confirmed by the size obtained from TEM. This work reports synthesis of a dual-function facile heterojunction and investigation of role of the charge transfer dynamism between individual semiconductor components for superior photocatalytic and electrochemical sensing application. The bio-benevolent and sturdy ZnO/Fe 2 O 3 heterojunctions were utilized for visible light facilitated photo-degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) antibiotic and electrochemical sensing of dopamine drug (DA). The fabricated heterojunction were characterized for structural, optical, and magnetic properties. Structural studies revealed the formation of nano heterojunction containing both phases. Magnetic studies confirmed the highly pure magnetic nature of photocatalysts. ZnO/30 wt%Fe 2 O 3 heterojunction (S2) shows 95.2% SMX degradation under visible light and high retention of performance under solar light. The scavenging experiments infer that OH radicals are the active species responsible for degradation. A Z-scheme photocatalytic mechanism was predicted for higher performance with protection of high potential VB of ZnO and CB of Fe 2 O 3 for high generation of reactive oxygen species. LC-MS was employed to predict a plausible degradation route. The sample modified glassy carbon electrodes (GCE) were used for electrochemical sensing of dopamine via cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The S2 junction exhibited 0.18 μM limit of detection with concentration range of 1 μM–50 μM. The stability test was successfully carried out at room temperature for 15 days. In addition, the S2 modified electrodes were spiked in real urine samples and good results were obtained. DPV reveals that S2 modified electrode is best sensor for dopamine sensing among all synthesized heterojunctions. The detection mechanism was also discussed in detail. The in-built metal redox i.e Zn2+/Zn+ and Fe3+/Fe2+ facilitate the Z-scheme transfer, improve the charge transfer capacity and reduce the recombination. This study is beneficial because it reports utilization of popular and well-tested semiconductor metal oxides to form heterojunctions with dual capabilities of environmental detoxification and cost-effective electrochemical detection of biomolecules. This review presents an overview of recent developments and advancements in the field of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution using poly(heptazine imide) (PHI) and based materials. Photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (PHE) has received great amount of attention because of its potential as a clean and sustainable energy source and PHI based materials have emerged as promising candidates for this purpose due to their distinct structural properties, improved light absorption, charge separation and reduced recombination. This review discusses the essential concepts of PHE and the potential of poly(heptazine imide) materials and their derivatives as photocatalysts and also the limitations of these materials in photocatalytic activity. It addresses the synthetic routes and strategies adopted to enhance the photocatalytic activity of these materials including surface modifications, band engineering, doping, loading co‐catalysts and composites & heterojunction construction. Furthermore, the recent works in photocatalytic H2 evolution using PHI and based materials have been summarized and discussed. Mg 0.3 Cu 0.2 Zn 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 catalyst shows 94.3% degradation in 90 min visible exposure and 78.2% total organic carbon (TOC) removal. The Cu dopant driven conduction band shifting to more negative side leads to improved ●O 2 – formation supported by electron spin resonance (ESR) probe. The dopants and metal redox cycles lead to higher visible absorption and reduced recombination boosting the CBZ removal. The degradation pathway and photocatalytic mechanism is also predicted. Fabricating magnetically recoverable solar-active photocatalysts with high performance capabilities for removal of recalcitrant and emerging pollutants has gained worldwide attention. Especially pharmaceutical pollutants as sulfonamides drugs which are now frequently detected in water systems are hard to remove because of their resistance to microbial and biological oxidation. This laboratory scale experiment presents synthesis of Mg substituted Zn nano-ferrite (Zn 1-x Mg x Fe 2 O 4) (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4) by facile modified sol-gel technique for sulfadiazine (SDZ) degradation. Effect of Mg doping on the zinc ferrite were investigated in this work which was analyzed by Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The UV-diffuse reflectance spectroscopy studies reveal higher visible absorption extending to longer wavelengths. The VB of the ferrite catalyst shifts to 2.30 eV in substituted ferrite M2Z8 (x = 0.2) capable of hydroxyl radicals generation from H 2 O, which is difficult in parent ferrite without any Mg substitution. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and photo-current response analysis also reveal low impedance, higher charge flow and separation in case of M2Z8 catalyst which is reflected in the 99.1% SDZ degradation in 90 min with 73.2% total organic carbon removal in 120 min. Scavenging experiments confirm that hydroxyl radicals are main active species involved in degradation with Mg2+ and Fe3+ catalyzing the generation of hydroxyl radicals by undergoing redox process. LC-MS and TOC analysis confirm the drug mineralization. The work aims at fabricating solar active tunable photocatalysts for photo-degradation and mineralization of pharmaceutical pollutants using cost-effective approach. Hydrogen evolution from water splitting using semiconductor photocatalysis is regarded as a sustainable and clean energy solution. Among various new age materials, the two-dimensional (2D) monoelemental materials as graphdiyne (GDY) and phosphorene (PN) showing excellent performance owing to their 2D atomic structure and unique properties, have drawn considerable attention. Graphdiyne (GDY) is a two-dimensional carbon-based compound having sp and sp2 hybridized carbon, diacetylene linkage, triangular holes framework and customizable band gap. Different stacking arrangements and homogenous pores in GDY can produce electronic characteristics, opening the door to intriguing energy applications. On the other hand, phosphorene derived from black phosphorous (BP) exhibits strong hole mobility, a variable band gap and broad optical absorption spectrum. With a significant increase in photo-excited charge-separation efficacy, the development of heterostructured photocatalysts driven by BP/PN and GDY has recently become the subject of study in photocatalysis. The recent advancements in development of phosphorene and graphdiyne and their accompanying heterostructured photocatalysts is outlined here, along with their structure, characteristics, synthetic routes and photocatalytic applications.
