Ionic liquids (ILs) with remarkable performance offer opportunities to advance green and low-carbon chemical processes. Thus, much work is focused on building an innovative theory and knowledge framework to unravel the nature of ILs. Moreover, there is an increasing trend to utilize ILs in rapidly emerging fields. Aiming to provide an overview of the recent advances and challenges of ILs in the development of green processes for renewable resources, this review highlights the properties and functions of ILs in IL gating and as electrolyte additives, modifiers, exfoliation agents, nucleation substrates, tunable solvents, versatile carriers and biosensor components in three representative and revolutionary production processes, namely, new energy, electronic information materials, and biotechnologies. Ionic liquids (ILs), due to their inherent structural tunability, outstanding miscibility behavior, and excellent electrochemical properties, have attracted significant research attention in the biomedical field. As the application of ILs in biomedicine is a rapidly emerging field, there is still a need for systematic analyses and summaries to further advance their development. This review presents a comprehensive survey on the utilization of ILs in the biomedical field. It specifically emphasizes the diverse structures and properties of ILs with their relevance in various biomedical applications. Subsequently, we summarize the mechanisms of ILs as potential drug candidates, exploring their effects on various organisms ranging from cell membranes to organelles, proteins, and nucleic acids. Furthermore, the application of ILs as extractants and catalysts in pharmaceutical engineering is introduced. In addition, we thoroughly review and analyze the applications of ILs in disease diagnosis and delivery systems. By offering an extensive analysis of recent research, our objective is to inspire new ideas and pathways for the design of innovative biomedical technologies based on ILs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Supported Au catalysts have been the focus of oxidation esterification of methylacrolein (MAL) to methyl methacrylate (MMA) in recent years, but most of them have difficulty in achieving both high conversion and high selectivity. Here, we report an easily prepared catalyst-loaded Au on NiO-decorated MgO–Al2O3, using which resulted in 97.7% MAL conversion and 91.9% MMA selectivity. XPS showed that Au existed mainly as Au0, while Ni existed as NiO. The addition of appropriate amounts of Ni reduced the binding energy of Au and the percentage of Auδ+ and enhanced the interaction between Au and the support, so as to obtain high reaction activity. In situ FTIR showed that the high selectivity for MMA formation was attributed to a special η1-(C,O) mode. Furthermore, the mechanism of the reaction was deduced from the above experimental results and different adsorption modes. In oxidative esterification of methacrolein to methyl methacrylate, mass transfer of O2 and N2 in methanol is of vital importance for the determination of reaction kinetics and design of industrial units. The mass transfer coefficients kL of O2 and N2 in methanol were determined by the decreasing‐pressure method in a gas‐liquid stirred reactor at temperatures ranging from 298.15 to 333.15 K, pressures ranging from 0.5 to 1.2 MPa, and agitation speeds ranging from 100 to 200 rpm. It could be shown that kL‐O2 and kL‐N2 increased with increasing temperature and agitation speed, but did not change significantly with partial pressure. On the basis of the experimental results, theoretical and empirical equations were proposed. This work provides an example of a study on the mass transfer of gases in a liquid. A novel europium complex [Eu2(C9N2O4H11)3(OH)2]Br ⋅ H2O derived from 1,3‐bis (1‐carboxylatoethyl)imidazolium bromide ([H2bcei]Br, C9N2O4H11=bcei2−) was synthesized by solvothermal method. [Eu2(C9N2O4H11)3(OH)2]Br ⋅ H2O possesses 3D structure constructed by Eu−O coordination bonds. In this complex, there are two coordinated environments around Eu3+, and Eu1 and Eu2 are eight‐ and seven‐ coordinated chemical sphere, respectively. The hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions between H2O molecules, Br− ions and the 3D framework with positive charges enhance its thermostability. So above the temperature of 290 °C, the 3D framework of [Eu2(C9N2O4H11)3(OH)2]Br ⋅ H2O begins to decompose. The high‐resolution emission spectrum of the complex had been measured, which is consistent with the results of the X‐ray crystal structure analysis, and luminescence lifetime for the complex is 0.937 ms.
