Open Educational Resources (OER) are valuable tools for diversifying teaching practices, contributing to a quality, equitable, open, and participatory education. However, unlocking the full potential of OER requires overcoming challenges related to its widespread adoption. One key strategy is empowering teachers to actively participate in the collaborative construction of high-quality OER collections that directly address their specific needs. This paper presents the results of a survey (N = 84) and a semi-structured focus group interview (N = 5) designed to collect teachers' perceptions of the critical factors to consider in designing a Community of Practice (CoP) focused on promoting sharing and digital curation of OER. The results highlight the importance of peer open review of shared OER, community-based evaluation based on pedagogical, technical, and scientific criteria, and the inclusion of OER metadata that mimics teachers' natural thinking. Furthermore, participants believe private feedback should be prioritised within these systems, as they perceive publicly shared comments might discourage future contributions. Although an expert's involvement in resource validation is prized, participants stated that this should not be limited to OER publication. Digital preservation encompasses policies, technologies, and strategies to ensure that digital objects and collections will sustain for future use. This study aimed at investigating the trends toward digital preservation in terms of in-house activities versus outsourcing by systematically reviewing the extant literature. The relevant studies were identified by accessing multiple databases and indexing and abstracting services. After retrieving the relevant literature, necessary filtering was done by following the PRISMA protocols, and thereafter the selected studies were finalized for further review. The meta-analysis of the final studies affirms a strong global preference of libraries, archives, and other cultural and memory organizations toward in-house activities for the preservation of their digital objects and collections compared to outsourcing digital preservation activities by third parties. The results of this study provide a holistic view of how digital assets are being preserved in memory institutions across the world and underpin the global management (in-house or outsourced) approaches for digital preservation. Purpose: This article reports on findings from interviews with ICT-based content creators whose work focuses on documenting and curating queer history and culture. The research specifically examines how as amateur historians, the participant's embodied knowledge plays a central role in how they engage with discourse about queer historical figures, methods of queer historiography and community accountability. Design/methodology/approach: The research deploys a queer constructivist framework to qualitatively gather and analyzes the semi-structured interviews of 31 North American content creators who curate digital project related to queer history and culture. The interviews were gathered between August 2022 and August 2023. Findings: The research highlights how the subjectivity of queer embodiment aids, rather than hinders, participants' ability to collaborate with LGBTQIA+ communities while also addressing more significant ethical questions around intersectionality and inclusive historiographic work. Research limitations/implications: The content creators' own positionality and commitments to community accountability and queer inclusivity fostered richer stories and historical documentation, while also helping make visible queer identity as affirming and valuable within queer culture. Additionally, practical implications include highlighting the value of ICT-based content within the distribution of educational and informational resources related to queer history. Originality/value: This research offers an underexamined intersection of historiography and queer embodiment. While extensive scholarship on institutional and community-based historiography work exist the content creators interviewed within this study exist within the space of both, often using a combination of embodied knowledge and traditional curatorial work to translate between such spaces, inviting, in turn, new ways of thinking about queer archival knowledge. This study investigates the transformative role of digital curation within libraries, focusing on how the interplay between technological advances and user demands shapes their function as custodians of knowledge and active participants in value co-creation with patrons. Utilizing a case study of National Central Library (NCL) in Taiwan and employing a value co-creation framework, the research examines how it adapts digital curation strategies to align technological capabilities with user expectations, thereby enhancing access and engagement with digital collections. The analysis underscores the critical need for adaptive digital curation practices capable of responding to the evolving digital landscape and shifting user needs. This article reflects on the translation of gallery space into a virtually immersive experience in an era of remote access. Curators and scholars such as Mary Nooter Roberts, Susan Vogel, Carol Duncan, Tony Bennet, Stephen Greenblatt, Judith Mastai, and Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett have discussed the myriad of ways in which the experience of culturally significant objects and sites in person has been critical to the study of art and its history. Focusing on theories of curation and display, I utilize practice-based examples from six virtual reality (VR) exhibitions produced in three different institutional contexts: the International Journal of Digital Art History's online gallery, the European Cultural Center's Performance Art program, and the Digital Humanities program at the University of California, Los Angeles. By documenting and analyzing the extended reality (XR) methods employed and the methodological approaches to the digital curatorial work, I address some of the challenges and opportunities of presenting objects in virtual space, offering comparisons to those faced when building physical exhibitions. I also consider how digital modalities provide a distinctly different paradigm for epistemologies of art and culture that offer greater contextualized understandings and can reshape exhibition documentation and the teaching of curatorial practice and museum studies. Libraries are no longer confined to their traditional formats and are now in the process of becoming the heart of data and digital preservation. This change is critical for research, digital preservation, and open data initiatives. This paper will seek to discuss the existing and possible role of libraries with an emphasis on data management and digital preservation. In this respect, it provides an overview of new developments, challenges, and prospects for libraries in the context of digital scholarship and RDM. As expected from the review of literature and case studies from academic and research libraries, the review also centers on the practical use of emerging technologies like AI and blockchain in managing data by the libraries. Today's libraries are repositories of information, educators of data, and advocates of open data. Some of the trends that are transforming library services now are Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Blockchain etc. However, there are some challenges that libraries face, for instance, technological obsolescence, lack of funds, and the need to renew professional development. Libraries hold the future of information science since they are in charge of data collection and storage. Information and communication technologies (ICT) can provide effective solutions for the enhancement of cultural heritage (CH) when they answer to narrative needs, which often evolve and change, because of the amount of dynamic information that comes from scientific research. The following paper aims to provide a methodological approach for CH time-varying representations. The goal is to design and develop a "diachronic" application that can represent the multi-layer chronology of an archaeological site, in line with the progressive archaeological discoveries. Web 2.0 has presented challenges and possibilities for cultural facilities and information professionals. Thinking strategically about such aspects implies creating openings for the collaboration of communities of interest in the identification of informational objects, and converging concepts, methodologies and techniques of information design, digital curation and folksonomy, which would address the challenges that emerge in the process of digitization-virtualization and availability of collections on the Web. Given this, cultural facilities must get closer to the communities of interest, as is done by the Museum of the Person (Museu da Pessoa), a digitalvirtual and collaborative museum whose collection is composed of life stories. The museum uses the social technology of memory, a methodology that consists of a set of practices, concepts and principles essential for diverse communities of interest and institutions to take ownership of the production and recording of narratives. The present study asks how folksonomy, seen as a resource of information design and digital curation, can converge to the social technology of memory? Thus, the objective is to analyze the possibilities of convergence of folksonomy, information design, and digital curation to the social technology of memory. The specific objectives are to study the main concepts of folksonomy in the context of information design and digital curation, analyze the social technology of memory, and identify possible convergences of folksonomy in methodology. The article presents the evolution of the Digital Library of the Department of Classical Philology and Italian Studies of the University of Bologna (DL FICLIT) as a case study of the transition from a digital repository to a tool for research, teaching, and dissemination in the digital ecosystem. Designed to publish the department’s digital collections, initial requirements have progressively been expanded and the ability to integrate content with critical contributions emerged. Additionally, there has been a growing request to offer targeted reading perspectives for different user profiles. This prompted a reconsideration of the DL’s role beyond implementation, management, and maintenance methodologies, identifying its renewed role in the department’s activities in the coming years. This resulted in changes to the DL’s editorial process, new requirements for the software platform, and a multi-year development program. A program involving several players: lecturers and researchers, technicians and librarians, students, and the public. By reframing the path taken so far, and displaying the program for the future, the article aims to contribute to the debate on the role that the DLs of Italian university departments will be able to assume in the emerging Cultural Heritage ecosystem that the Ministry of Culture foresees with the National Digitisation Plan.

While a new paradigm of scientific research based on data centres and research infrastructures is gaining ground in science, and convergence between infrastructures and scientific domains is growing in cyberspace, epistemic cultures, particularly conservative in some fields, play a significant role in the dynamics of knowledge production in general and the adoption of data-intensive scientific practices in particular. In the present study, we focus on the transformations of scholarly communication through the perspective of digital curation of research data in the humanities, which certainly belong to these conservative epistemic cultures. The aim of this paper is to explore perspectives on the evolution of data curation in the context of the transformation of scholarly communication and research infrastructure in the humanities, specifically static archives, into living, continuously enriched data archives supported by artificial intelligence tools. To explore this perspective, we have chosen to compare scholarly communication in the humanities and in high-energy physics, in addition to analysing the practices of data curation itself. We further thematize the identified differences in terms of virtual research environments that can help humanities scholars exploit the potential of data-intensive research infrastructures.

The digital exhibition space called Header/Footer Gallery hosted by the nonprofit organization New Media Caucus web presence has presented numerous exhibitions highlighting innovative work by artists across new media art. Established in 2020, Header/Footer has invited curators to curate exhibitions that explored the themes of technological malfunction, the legacies of cyberfeminism in the twenty first century, and Afrofuturism. Since then, taking up the role as the official curator for Header/Footer Gallery, the New Media Caucus' curator has created different exhibitions concentrating on inclusivity and the exposure of emerging artists through creative curatorial design strategies. For this paper, we take Header/Footer Gallery as a case study to analyze the development of virtual exhibition spaces, their histories, benefits, challenges and their futures. Taking Header/Footer Gallery as an example of a virtual space, we analyze its challenges including the promotion and dissemination of exhibitions and their digital engagement, despite the increase in accessibility of virtual galleries, as well as the challenges of archiving virtual exhibitions. This article explores the implementation of a decolonial archival praxis through the digitization of the Lloyd Best Archive in Trinidad and Tobago. Traditional archival practices, rooted in colonial attitudes, have historically marginalized Indigenous knowledge systems and narratives. Through a post-custodial approach, this project challenges the colonial structure inherent in archival practices by prioritizing collaboration with local communities and empowering them to maintain control over their own stories. The partnership between Trinity College and the Lloyd Best Institute of the Caribbean exemplifies a new approach to archival digitization, one that prioritizes cultural context and community involvement. By providing resources, training, and support, Trinity College enables the local team to digitize and describe their own materials, ensuring that the archive remains rooted in its cultural origins. Overall, the digitization of the Lloyd Best Archive serves as a model for decolonial archival praxis, enriching our understanding of Caribbean history and culture while advancing equitable and inclusive archival practices worldwide. By centering marginalized voices, initiatives like this work towards a future where epistemic sovereignty is recognized and respected, and where archives serve as instruments of empowerment and social justice. From southern Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier, the historic U.S. highway Route 66 captures the imagination of travelers and dreamers. The "Mother Road" -- as it was nicknamed during its heyday (1926-1985) -- represents an upbeat spirit through its colorful streetscapes highlighting neon signs, diners, drive-ins, courtyard motels, and whimsical road art. Revealing the full story of Route 66 as a symbol of America itself, however, is richer and more varied than even its vibrant material culture might suggest. The road and the people who lived, worked, played, and traveled on it -- and continue to do so -- tell a profound story. Ahead of the centennial of Route 66 in 2026, several regional and national initiatives have developed to expand the highway's narrative. Through hands-on preservation programs, research collaboratives, photographic surveys, and digital story-mapping tools based in public agencies, universities, libraries, archives, and museums, projects are harnessing the story-telling possibilities of the road as a cultural landscape of grand and complicated significance. The aim of this article is to explore the current research landscape of changing information needs and the need for digital access to library materials. Print reference sources—bibliographies in particular—are discussed and possible solutions for increasing their relevance and appeal as a stable reference point are presented. Several digital curated collections created with bibliographic reference materials are highlighted as a way of reintroducing these materials as a reliable and accessible source of information. The article concludes with future directions for the study of the use of print consultative sources and the main takeaways for adjusting reference and research assistance in an academic library. This study recognizes the international need for a broadly applicable lifecycle model to facilitate efficient and systematic digital curation. Consequently, it has developed a generic digital curation lifecycle model, titled the d-KISTI model. This model was developed by applying content analysis and thematic coding to data collected through a two-year review of relevant literature, existing conceptual lifecycle models, and empirical investigations of KISTI's digital curation practice. It was then refined further through consultations with many international digital curation experts. The d-KISTI model presents actions and their relationships with one another that have gone previously unacknowledged in the DCC curation lifecycle model and other existing curation models. These actions and relationships, which are articulated at length within the study, reflect the rapidly changing nature of the global digital curation landscape and offer more representative curation activities to information organizations. Moreover, through its investigation and analysis of KISTI's digital curation practices, this study contributes to existing literature on digital curation in Korea. Ultimately, the d-KISTI model seeks to optimize digital curation strategies and practices, both within Korea and internationally, and, moreover, hopes to serve as a foundational touchstone for future studies on digital curation. Objective: This article intends to describe an intra-organizational experience of strategic cooperation, reflecting on the critical success factors in the development of digital preservation and curation policies involving higher education institutions and research centers. Methods: Two qualitative perspectives are considered in the case study: the practice turn and the perspective of the study of behavior and informational practices to study the strategy and informational interactions of the collaboration model developed between a research center with more than 200 integrated researchers (CHAM - Center for the Humanities) and the specialized Digital Development of Research Services (DDRS) team from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. Methods such as document analysis, observation and analysis of informational practices were used. Results: The collaboration model is analyzed in its main strategic characteristics and informational practices: active and continuous dialogue between the research community, supported by DDRS coaching activities, focused on obtaining a generalized but flexible consensus around the research, digital curation, and preservation. Its implementation results from a double Top-down strategy, guaranteeing organizational support and information governance, and Bottom-up, constituting a community-led process, developing two interrelated actions: a pilot data management test experience and the evaluation collection of research project sites with recommendations for their sustainability, interoperability, digital preservation, and curation. Conclusions: The construction of the strategy centered on shared critical reflection perspective of joint solutions and synergies for the construction of participatory digital preservation policies. Digital-virtual environments focused on LGBTQ+ themes constitute important spaces for accessing and sharing information, by converging content on dissident and historically marginalized existences, evoking their culture and memory, in addition to giving visibility to their narratives from multiple perspectives. Such environments demand studies that analyze the main characteristics present in the structuring, access, and sharing of information for possible improvements in infocommunication processes. The convergences between Information Design and Digital Curation, aligned with Experience Design, make it possible to analyze aspects inherent to the structuring, organization, and presentation of information in digital-virtual environments. In this way, the objective was to explore national and international initiatives for communicating information on LGBTQ+ issues; identify and describe the presence of Information Design elements, converged with Digital Curation, from the perspective of Experience Design, and verify the contributions of the intersection of said disciplines to the optimization of access, sharing and appropriation of information in a digital-virtual environment. The methodology used was qualitative in nature and had a theoretical and exploratory-descriptive approach, through the application of the Design Thinking method in the Empathy, Definition, and Ideation phases. The results demonstrated that the resources arranged in the environments correspond to the use of sign representations specific to the specific cultural context, visible through characteristic vocabulary, articulation of icons, and structured representative colors, through a multimodal language. This article demonstrates the possibilities the digital offers in convening material across time and place, and the new insights into historical collections that are thereby enabled. Drawing on the 19th century Bleek and Lloyd Archive's visual works, notebooks, and dictionary cards of the northern San !xun language, I show that the convenor, Lucy Lloyd, devised a referencing system that allows the material to span across restrictive categories, and beyond the physical limitations of the page. Through two of my own digital curations of selected !xun material, and material beyond the collection, I demonstrate how digital affordances enable the material to be read together across time and place, and following Lloyd's referencing system, to be mutually informative, arguing that Lloyd organised the material in a way that almost anticipates digital affordances nearly 150 years later. This paper presents a current MA study that addresses the research problem, "What issues and insights about the role of digital archives in the preservation of South African cultural history are raised via the production of an archival documentary and archival website on the life and art of the late sculptor Mr. Bonginkosi Michael Gasa?". This study hopes to show, through the presentation of research and archival material curated thus far, not only the importance of the role archival documentary film and the digital platform play in the preservation of heritage but also how this archival project promotes the idea of an African gaze, which is essential for preserving an authentic cultural voice and heritage. This study is conducted by following a practice-led slant, meaning the research primarily leads to new information about the practice. In this case, the practice will investigate the key elements that go into the production of an archival documentary and secondly the digital archiving of the project online. Mr Bonginkosi Michael Gasa was a sculptor who passed away on the 18th of April 2019 at the age of 55. The film about Mr. Gasa will be reported in a critical reflexive MA dissertation, which will also serve to elucidate the critical, theoretical, and cultural matrix from which the film emerges. The documentary film will be preserved on a website, which will also serve as an online repository, curation, and record of Mr. Gasa's sculptures. In detailing the study thus far, this paper aims to highlight the potential of digital archives to preserve marginalized voices, such as Michael Bonginkosi Gasa, whose life and work would otherwise remain largely unknown. For over twenty years public institutions and foundations committed in cultural heritage curation and preservation worked up methodologies, strategies and techniques for long-term digital preservation of digital resources. Thanks to a relevant number of initiatives and services carried on by international institutions and specialized agencies, public and private libraries reached a high level of awareness in this field which requires continuous adaptation due to the constant evolution of publishing industry and the rapid emergence of Open Science. After a quick review of digital preservation milestones, this article looks at some emerging trends and issues which characterize the constant transformation of digital preservation landscape. Dynamic generated digital contents and Open Science to fulfil findability, accessibility, interoperability and reuse (FAIR) of digital assets are engaging new challenges for existing digital preservation services. Digital curation and digital preservation are deeply merged and proceed in parallel to assure long-term usage of digital resources and data. How to select and deploy digital preservation platforms is another complex area where Cloud services can offer the opportunity to reduce the costs of technical infrastructures maintenance and management. Policy and decision making institutional levels need more awareness to draw up digital preservation strategies and to activate services to assure digital contents and data long-term access and reuse. Finally the paper suggests to promote “digital preservation by design” as a new base rule to be applied since the conception of every project and initiative in the cultural heritage, scientific and academic contexts.

The changing conditions in which LAM institutions operate require constant monitoring of the development of solutions dedicated to different forms of their activities. This article aims at an analysis of the literature related to LAM institutions on open-source software used in digital curation. The undertaken research was an attempt to check the interest in this issue in publications registered in the BASE multi-search database. The research material collected during library searches was analysed using simple bibliometric methods. Based on literature analysis, this paper indicates a growing interest in digital curation in LAM institutions in the context of open-source software. The first publications on this subject recorded in the BASE database date back to 2005. Since then, the number of different publication types has been growing steadily, including in particular conference proceedings and journal articles. An increasing number of authors interested in digital curation associated with many institutions from around the world has also been recorded. The analysis of the material also allowed us to identify various applications available under open-source licences. The article provides an opportunity to look at the changes occurring in the analysed body of literature. It presents leading authors publishing works related to digital curation. It also identifies the most popular software described over 16 years. It provides a comprehensive description of topics and the structure of literature on open-source software used in digital curation. In 2019, Digital Curation Lab Director Toni Sant and the artist Enrique Tabone started collaborating on a research project exploring the visualization of specific data sets through Wikidata for artistic practice. An art installation called Naked Data was developed from this collaboration and exhibited at the Stanley Picker Gallery in Kingson, London, during the DRHA 2022 conference. Through data analysis, employing Wikidata tools, this creative work employs a data set depicting prehistoric female figurines held by Heritage Malta. The artistic research aims to develop a creative workflow model for processing essential information about art collections, museum policies, and ways to engage with cultural heritage through data. This article outlines the key elements involved in this practice-based research work and shares the artistic process involving the visualizing of the scientific data with special attention to the aesthetic qualities afforded by this technological engagement. Researchers have shown interest in using software in scientific investigations, expanding literature review strategies in the organization, collection, analysis, and data triangulation. These aspects revealed possibilities for discussions related to digital content curation in Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS). The choice and organization of qualitative data in scientific research are affected by this complexity of information, which involves planning, contextualization, and ethical dilemmas of sharing, among other aspects that permeate the investigations. Thus, this study aims to contribute to the reflection and analysis of models of digital content curation that can be used in CAQDAS. A qualitative descriptive methodology was used to achieve this goal, made possible by a critical literature review of scientific works about digital content curation. It was based on searches in two academic databases (Scientific Electronic Library Online – SciELO – and Scopus) and two gray literature databases. As a result, few digital content curation models with similar stages are employed in different contexts, and that some authors are interested in reflecting on such models. It was also found that the digital content curation models can be redefined and explored based on specific guidelines that consider the context of the organization of qualitative data in CAQDAS. For implementation of effective and efficient digital preservation programs, librarians and other professionals in the memory institutions need to have sufficient levels of awareness of digital preservation key concepts, strategies, tools, and standards/best practices. This survey aimed to investigate the awareness of librarians in Pakistani universities about these components. The population of the study included the librarians working in the central libraries of public sector universities and degree awarding institutions (DAIs) of Pakistan established before 2010. A questionnaire was developed after reviewing the relevant literature and was thereafter pilot tested in selected libraries. After successful completion of this phase, data was collected from the target population. A total of 178 responses were received from 63 out of 70 universities and DAIs. The university archives work of National Chengchi University (NCCU) began with the establishment of the university archives in 1971. It has been developed for more than half a century and has accumulated a lot of curatorial practice experience and achievements. This article aims to review the development of NCCU's archives exhibition, examine the results and suggest prospects. According to literature review, the exhibition program of NCCU’s archives is divided into four periods: the Initial Period (1971-1989), the Foundation Period (1990-2005), the Development Period (2006-2017) and the Transformation Period (2018-present). Starting from the curatorial practice of the University History and Archives Section, and guided by the practical issues of planning the new school history exhibition space, it is hoped that based on past experience, it can be used as a planning guide for the university archives exhibition.

This study aims to enable users of digitized cultural heritage artefacts to understand the correlation between artefacts and their context, discover new knowledge, and gain inspiration. We have developed data labelling and visualization technologies specific to cultural heritage so that users, such as curators, cultural heritage experts, and museum visitors, can easily and quickly access the information that they want through the correlation between artefacts. We came up with a web-based labelling tool for cultural heritage data and applied it to data on 45,692 artefacts from the National Museum of Korea. We also invented a web-based visualization tool that converts lists of attribute information in Excel spreadsheets into visualized content and edits the attributes. The meanings of thumbnails of visualized cultural heritage and that of connected lines, a search function, and visualized cultural heritage will allow users to quickly and easily access the cultural heritage information they are looking for.

In 2019, the art history program at American University gave its masters students a new option for the capstone project that is the culmination of the degree: create a digital project on an art historical topic using Omeka S or WordPress. Initially, only a single student chose to complete a digital capstone over a traditional thesis but within two years, there was near parity between the two options, meaning seven digital capstones for the 2021 cohort. To support these projects, a close partnership quickly developed between the University's Library, the Visual Resources Center, and the archives. This paper covers how three campus units coordinate that support for these innovative digital humanities projects, including administration of the platforms, instruction, technical support, preservation, and access to the final projects. The paper also showcases examples of student work to demonstrate the variety and creativity of projects that can be accomplished using these platforms, as well as their contributions to the field of art history. The outcome of this initiative is clear: the best of digital humanities, weaving design and technology with rigorous art historical research, and finished projects that have already resulted in successful job applications in the field.
