Socially intelligent systems exhibit, understand, and reason about social behavior, in order to support people in their daily lives. We claim that a fundamental new approach based on social concepts is needed to build these socially intelligent systems. In this paper, we explore how the concepts of social practices and social identities can be used to structure deliberations about actions. The difficulty of learning to program has long been identified amongst novices. This study explored the benefits of teaching a problem solving strategy by comparing students’ perceptions and attitudes towards problem solving before and after the strategy was implemented in secondary schools. Based on self-efficacy theory, students’ problem solving self-efficacy as well as teachers’ self-efficacy were investigated, showing that both students’ and teachers’ self-efficacy may have benefited from the explicit instruction. In this paper we propose the use of a shared social context to facilitate agent perception of social dynamics within a virtual environment. We argue that through a shared context it can be more feasible to equip agents with social behaviors and reasoning rules for social intelligence, better suited for real-time constrained serious games with multiple agents.

This article describes conceptual connexions between a theory of culture and of organizations. These connexions aim at determining key features that should be observed in an agent-based model integrating these aspects: we describe concepts to be considered when modeling the influence of culture on individuals and thus the global consequences of culture that should result at the organizational level.
