Abstract: We report the first detection of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) on germanium, measured at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The Ge-Mini detector of the COHERENT collaboration employs large-mass, low-noise, high-purity germanium spectrometers, enabling excellent energy resolution, and an analysis threshold of 1.5 keV electron-equivalent ionization energy. We observe a on-beam excess of 20.6$_{+7.1}^{-6.3}$ counts with a total exposure of 10.22 GWhkg and we reject the no-CEvNS hypothesis with 3.9 sigma significance. The result agrees with the predicted standard model of particle physics signal rate within 2 sigma., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

Abstract: We consider the potential for a 10-kg undoped cryogenic CsI detector operating at the Spallation Neutron Source to measure coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering and its sensitivity to discover new physics beyond the standard model. Through a combination of increased event rate, lower threshold, and good timing resolution, such a detector would significantly improve on past measurements. We considered tests of several beyond-the-standard-model scenarios such as neutrino non-standard interactions and accelerator-produced dark matter. This detector's performance was also studied for relevant questions in nuclear physics and neutrino astronomy, namely the weak charge distribution of CsI nuclei and detection of neutrinos from a core-collapse supernova.

Abstract: Description of the data release 10.13139/OLCF/1969085 (https://doi.ccs.ornl.gov/ui/doi/426) from the measurements of the CsI[Na] response to low energy nuclear recoils by the COHERENT collaboration. We share the data in the form of raw ADC waveforms, provide benchmark values, and share plots to enhance the transparency and reproducibility of our results. Abstract: Using an 185-kg NaI[Tl] array, COHERENT has measured the inclusive electron-neutrino charged-current cross section on ${}^{127}$I with pion decay-at-rest neutrinos produced by the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Iodine is one the heaviest targets for which low-energy ($\leq$ 50 MeV) inelastic neutrino-nucleus processes have been measured, and this is the first measurement of its inclusive cross section. After a five-year detector exposure, COHERENT reports a flux-averaged cross section for electron neutrinos of $9.2^{+2.1}_{-1.8} \times 10^{-40}$ cm$^2$. This corresponds to a value that is $\sim$41% lower than predicted using the MARLEY event generator with a measured Gamow-Teller strength distribution. In addition, the observed visible spectrum from charged-current scattering on $^{127}$I has been measured between 10 and 55 MeV, and the exclusive zero-neutron and one-or-more-neutron emission cross sections are measured to be $5.2^{+3.4}_{-3.1} \times 10^{-40}$ and $2.2^{+3.5}_{-2.2} \times 10^{-40}$ cm$^2$, respectively., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

5. Performance of a liquid nitrogen cryostat setup for the study of nuclear recoils in undoped CsI crystals

Abstract: There is a global trend to increase the light yield of CsI scintillators used in neutrino and dark matter detection by operating undoped crystals at cryogenic temperatures. However, high light yield alone is not sufficient to guarantee a low-energy threshold. The response of undoped crystals to nuclear recoils at cryogenic temperatures is equally important. A liquid nitrogen-based cryostat was developed to measure the nuclear quenching factor of a small undoped CsI crystal using monoenergetic neutron beams at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL). To avoid neutron scattering in high-$Z$ materials, these materials were intentionally reduced around the crystal. The structure and performance of the cryostat are described in detail. Using this cryostat, a light yield of $33.4 \pm 1.7$ photoelectrons per keV electron-equivalent (PE/keV$_\text{ee}$) was observed at 5.9 keV$_\text{ee}$, enabling the measurement of nuclear quenching factors at very low energies. The results of the quenching factor measurement will be reported in a subsequent paper. Non-negligible negative overshoot was observed in the tails of the observed light pulses. The origin of this issue and the correction procedure are described in detail. This information may be useful for others who encounter similar technical challenges.

Abstract: Using neutrinos produced at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the COHERENT collaboration has studied the Pb($\nu_e$,X$n$) process with a lead neutrino-induced-neutron (NIN) detector. Data from this detector are fit jointly with previously collected COHERENT data on this process. A combined analysis of the two datasets yields a cross section that is $0.29^{+0.17}_{-0.16}$ times that predicted by the MARLEY event generator using experimentally-measured Gamow-Teller strength distributions, consistent with no NIN events at 1.8$\sigma$. Abstract: We use data from the COHERENT CsI[Na] scintillation detector to constrain sub-GeV leptophobic dark matter models. This detector was built to observe low-energy nuclear recoils from coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering. These capabilities enable searches for dark matter particles produced at the Spallation Neutron Source mediated by a vector portal particle with masses between 2 and 400 MeV/c$^2$. No evidence for dark matter is observed and a limit on the mediator coupling to quarks is placed. This constraint improves upon previous results by two orders of magnitude. This newly explored parameter space probes the region where the dark matter relic abundance is explained by leptophobic dark matter when the mediator mass is roughly twice the dark matter mass. COHERENT sets the best constraint on leptophobic dark matter at these masses.

Abstract: The COHERENT experiment located in Neutrino Alley at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has made the world's first two measurements of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS), on CsI and argon, using neutrinos produced at the SNS. The COHERENT collaboration continues to pursue CEvNS measurements on various targets as well as additional studies of inelastic neutrino-nucleus interactions, searches for accelerator-produced dark matter (DM) and physics beyond the Standard Model, using the uniquely high-quality and high-intensity neutrino source available at the SNS. This white paper describes primarily COHERENT's ongoing and near-future program at the SNS First Target Station (FTS). Abstract: We present the analysis and results of the first dataset collected with the MARS neutron detector deployed at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) for the purpose of monitoring and characterizing the beam-related neutron (BRN) background for the COHERENT collaboration. MARS was positioned next to the COH-CsI coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering detector in the SNS basement corridor. This is the basement location of closest proximity to the SNS target and thus, of highest neutrino flux, but it is also well shielded from the BRN flux by infill concrete and gravel. These data show the detector registered roughly one BRN per day. Using MARS' measured detection efficiency, the incoming BRN flux is estimated to be $1.20~\pm~0.56~\text{neutrons}/\text{m}^2/\text{MWh}$ for neutron energies above $\sim3.5$ MeV and up to a few tens of MeV. We compare our results with previous BRN measurements in the SNS basement corridor reported by other neutron detectors.

Abstract: We present results of several measurements of CsI[Na] scintillation response to 3-60 keV energy nuclear recoils performed by the COHERENT collaboration using tagged neutron elastic scattering experiments and an endpoint technique. Earlier results, used to estimate the coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS) event rate for the first observation of this process achieved by COHERENT at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS), have been reassessed. We discuss corrections for the identified systematic effects and update the respective uncertainty values. The impact of updated results on future precision tests of CEvNS is estimated. We scrutinize potential systematic effects that could affect each measurement. In particular we confirm the response of the H11934-200 Hamamatsu photomultiplier tube (PMT) used for the measurements presented in this study to be linear in the relevant signal scale region., Comment: The version accepted by JINST. Abstract: The COHERENT collaboration searched for scalar dark matter particles produced at the Spallation Neutron Source with masses between 1 and 220~MeV/c$^2$ using a CsI[Na] scintillation detector sensitive to nuclear recoils above 9~keV$_\text{nr}$. No evidence for dark matter is found and we thus place limits on allowed parameter space. With this low-threshold detector, we are sensitive to coherent elastic scattering between dark matter and nuclei. The cross section for this process is orders of magnitude higher than for other processes historically used for accelerator-based direct-detection searches so that our small, 14.6~kg detector significantly improves on past constraints. At peak sensitivity, we reject the flux consistent with the cosmologically observed dark-matter concentration for all coupling constants $\alpha_D<0.64$, assuming a scalar dark-matter particle. We also calculate the sensitivity of future COHERENT detectors to dark-matter signals which will ambitiously test multiple dark-matter spin scenarios.

Abstract: We measured the cross section of coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (\cevns{}) using a CsI[Na] scintillating crystal in a high flux of neutrinos produced at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. New data collected before detector decommissioning has more than doubled the dataset since the first observation of \cevns{}, achieved with this detector. Systematic uncertainties have also been reduced with an updated quenching model, allowing for improved precision. With these analysis improvements, the COHERENT collaboration determined the cross section to be $(165^{+30}_{-25})\times10^{-40}$~cm$^2$, consistent with the standard model, giving the most precise measurement of \cevns{} yet. The timing structure of the neutrino beam has been exploited to compare the \cevns{} cross section from scattering of different neutrino flavors. This result places leading constraints on neutrino non-standard interactions while testing lepton flavor universality and measures the weak mixing angle as $\sin^2\theta_{W}=0.220^{+0.028}_{-0.026}$ at $Q^2\approx(50\text{ MeV})^2$

Abstract: The Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is a pulsed source of neutrons and, as a byproduct of this operation, an intense source of pulsed neutrinos via stopped-pion decay. The COHERENT collaboration uses this source to investigate coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering and other physics with a suite of detectors. This work includes a description of our Geant4 simulation of neutrino production at the SNS and the flux calculation which informs the COHERENT studies. We estimate the uncertainty of this calculation at about 10% based on validation against available low-energy pion production data.

Abstract: We report on the technical design and expected performance of a 592 kg heavy-water-Cherenkov detector to measure the absolute neutrino flux from the pion-decay-at-rest neutrino source at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The detector will be located roughly 20 m from the SNS target and will measure the neutrino flux with better than 5% statistical uncertainty in 2 years. This heavy-water detector will serve as the first module of a two-module detector system to ultimately measure the neutrino flux to 2-3% at both the First Target Station and the planned Second Target Station of the SNS. This detector will significantly reduce a dominant systematic uncertainty for neutrino cross-section measurements at the SNS, increasing the sensitivity of searches for new physics., Comment: As accepted to JINST

Therefore, preventing recurrent strokes by promoting medication adherence is crucial to reduce morbidity and mortality. In addition, understanding the barriers to medication adherence related to the social determinants of health (SDoH) could promote equity among persons with ischemic stroke.Objective: To explore the barriers to medication adherence among patients with ischemic stroke through the SDoH.Methods: This systematic review included studies published between January 2018 and December 2022 identified through PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and CINAHL Plus Full Text. The descriptions of the studies were systematically summarized and discussed based on the SDoH from the US Healthy People 2030 initiative.Results: Eight studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. The most common barrier to adherence was inappropriate medication beliefs, medication side effects, and patient-physician relationship, which relate to the dimensions of healthcare access and quality. Health literacy and health perception, dependent on education access and quality, frequently influenced adherence. Other social determinants, such as financial strain and social and community context, were found to alter adherence behaviors. No study addressed the neighborhood and built environment domain. We found that cognitive impairment is another factor that impacts adherence outcomes among stroke patients.Conclusion: Multifaceted approaches are needed to address the SDoH to improve medication adherence among patients with ischemic stroke. 20. PARPi after PARPi in epithelial ovarian cancer

Abstract: The objective of this study was to describe the treatment experience of patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer who are retreated with an inhibitor of poly(ADP-ribose)-polymerase (PARPi). We conducted a multi-institutional, retrospective review of ovarian cancer patients who received ≥2 lines of therapy containing a PARPi. Demographic, clinical, and pathological data were analyzed with descriptive statistics. Twenty-two patients were identified. For initial PARPi (PARPi1), 12 patients (54.5%) received veliparib, 7 (31.8%) olaparib and 3 (13.6%) rucaparib resulting in 10 patients who had no evidence of disease at the completion of therapy (NED), 3 partial responses (PR), 4 stable disease (SD), and 3 progressive disease (PD). (All 10 CRs involved veliparib given in conjunction with cytotoxic chemotherapy). PARPi1 was used as maintenance in 2 patients. PARPi1 was discontinued because planned number of cycles was reached (n = 10), progression (n = 8), toxicity (n = 2), other (n = 2). For second PARPi (PARPi2), 10 patients (45.4%) received niraparib, 6 (27.3%) olaparib, and 6 (27.3%) rucaparib resulting in 3 PR, 13 SD, and 3 PD. PARPi2 was used as maintenance in 3 patients. The 3 patients who experienced a PR to PARPi2 had a BRCA mutation and were NED following PARPi1. PARPi2 was discontinued because of progression (n = 13), toxicity (n = 6), other (n = 2). One patient currently remains on PARPi2. Toxicity after PARPi1 was not associated with toxicity from PARPi2 (p > 0.05). With 3 approved PARPi for different indications including frontline and recurrence, the opportunity to reuse PARPi has increased. Characterizing those who should be re-challenged is an important initiative moving forward.

21. Particle dynamics in deposition of porous films with a pulsed radio-frequency atmospheric pressure glow discharge

Abstract: Nanoparticles grown in a plasma are used to visualize the process of film deposition in a pulsed radio-frequency (rf) atmospheric pressure glow discharge. Modulating the plasma makes it possible to successfully prepare porous TiO2 films. We study the trapping of the particles in the sheath during the plasma-on phase and compare it with numerical simulations. During the plasma-off phase, the particles are driven to the substrate by the electric field generated by residual ions, leading to the formation of porous TiO2 film. Using video microscopy, the collective dynamics of particles in the whole process is revealed at the most fundamental "kinetic" level.

However, less attention has been paid to left-behind experience college students (LBEs). This online study aimed to investigate the relationship between psychological capital (PsyCap) and anxiety among LBEs during COVID-19 pandemic, and further analyze the mediation role of self-esteem between them.Methods: A total of 9990 students were chosen using the stratified cluster sampling method. Three self-reported questionnaires were used to assess the PsyCap, self-esteem, and anxiety, respectively. All the statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS 23.0 and R, and to further investigate the mediation effect of self-esteem in the association of PsyCap with anxiety, AMOS 23.0 was used to build a structural equation model.Results: PsyCap, self-esteem, and anxiety were significantly correlated among LBEs during the COVID-19 pandemic. PsyCap affects anxiety directly (β = – 0.22, SE = 0.051, 95% CI: – 0.27, – 0.17, P < 0.05). In addition, self-esteem partially mediated the relationship between PsyCap and anxiety (mediating effect value = – 0.16, 95% CI: – 0.20, – 0.13, P < 0.05).Conclusion: During the pandemic of COVID-19, left-behind experience had a negative influence on the PsyCap and self-esteem of college students. In addition, for LBEs, self-esteem plays an important mediating role between PsyCap and anxiety. The ratio of low-density-lipoprotein to lymphocyte (LLR) has been widely used to predict the prognosis of cerebral infarction, but its association with COPD is less known. We aim to explore the relationship between LLR and COPD and to investigate its indicative role in the severity and prognosis of COPD.Methods: In this study, 279 participants (n = 138 with COPD and n = 138 age- and sex-matched health control) were recruited. COPD patients were divided into two groups according to the optimal cut-off value of LLR determined by the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). We collected the clinical characteristics, pulmonary function, LLR, neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet–lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and other data of all subjects. t-test, Pearson correlation test, logistic regression analysis and other statistical analysis were carried out.Results: Compared with the healthy control group, COPD patients had a significantly higher LLR level (p < 0.001). The disease was more serious in the high LLR group, which was reflected by Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) and BMI, airway obstruction, dyspnoea, severe exacerbations (BODE) index and St. George’s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) index (p = 0.001, p = 0.013, p = 0.011, respectively). The forced expiration volume in 1 second (FEV₁) (p = 0.033) and forced expiratory volume in 1 second in percent of the predicted value (FEV₁%) (p = 0.009) in high LLR group were lower. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that LLR was an independent factor affecting the severity of COPD patients (odds ratio [OR] = 2.599, 95% CI: 1.266-5.337, p = 0.009).Conclusion: We found that LLR is a novel biomarker in predicting the severity of patients with COPD. This study aims to map out the connectivity between anxiety, depression and pain symptoms amongst Chinese AYA cancer patients from the perspective of a network model.Methods: Two hundred and eighteen AYA patients, aged between 15 and 39 years at diagnosis; completed the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and McGill Pain Questionnaire-Visual Analogue Scale (MPQ-VAS). Network analyses were performed.Results: In all, 38.07% (95% CI = 31.58– 44.57%) of the participants reported depression, 30.73% (95% CI = 24.56– 36.91%) reported anxiety, and 14.22% (95% CI = 9.55– 18.89%) reported current pain. The generated network illustrated that anxiety, depression and pain community were well connected. In the network, “having trouble relaxing” (GAD4, node strength = 1.182), “uncontrollable worry” (GAD2, node strength = 1.165), and “sad mood” (PHQ2, node strength = 1.144) were identified as the most central symptoms, while “uncontrollable worry” (GAD2, bridge strength = 0.645), “guilty” (PHQ6, bridge strength = 0.545), and “restlessness” (GAD5, bridge strength = 0.414) were the key bridging symptoms that connected different communities.Conclusion: Anxiety, depression and pain symptoms are highly interactive with each other. The two groups were evaluated with reference to radiological failure-free survival (R-FFS), fertility outcome, symptoms, and complications at a median 33.5-month follow-up.Results: Of the 98 males, 58 (59.2%) received TLU, and 40 (40.8%) underwent FUSV. Baseline characteristics were comparable. Semen analysis, prostatitis-like symptoms, and the maximum diameter of cyst were partially improved after both surgeries at 12-month follow-up. The TLU groups suggested a higher incidence rate of fertility for SVC patients with comorbid infertility compared with the FUSV group (82.4% vs 70.3%, p = 0.041), as well as better R-FFS of cysts at five-year follow-up (Log rank test, p = 0.021). In addition, the number of patients with NIH-CPSI (National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index) scores higher than 15 decreased more significantly after TLU (p = 0.004). 27. Polarization conversion of non-specular diffraction orders from metallic nanohole arrays studied by Fourier space polarimetry

Abstract: We use Fourier space polarimetry to study the incident angle- and polarization-dependent rotation angle and ellipticity of different diffraction orders emerging from a two-dimensional periodic Au array. The array has square lattice and circular nanoholes and thus is achiral. We find no polarization conversion occurs if the diffraction orders lie in the incident plane. However, for the orders that are diffracted away from the incident plane, their rotation angle and ellipticity vary considerably with incident angle and polarization. In particular, dramatic changes in rotation angle and ellipticity are observed when Bloch-like surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) are excited. The experimental results are consistent with the finite-difference time-domain simulations. The transverse spin carried by the SPPs and a discrete dipole model are used complementarily to elucidate such angular and polarization dependences.

Abstract: We report the observed photon bunching statistics of biexciton cascade emission at zero time delay in single quantum dots by second-order correlation function measurements under continuous wave excitation. It is found that the bunching phenomenon is independent of the biexciton binding energy when it varies from 0.59 meV to nearly zero. The photon bunching takes place when the exciton photon is not spectrally distinguishable from biexciton photon, and either of them can trigger the start in a Hanbury-Brown and Twiss setup. However, if the exciton energy is spectrally distinguishable from the biexciton the photon statistics becomes asymmetric and a cross-bunching lineshape is obtained. The theoretical calculations based on a model of three-level rate-equation analysis are consistent with the result of second-order correlation function measurements.

COPD patients were divided into two groups according to the optimal cut-off value of RCI determined by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Pearson’s correlation test, logistic regression analysis and other tests were performed.Results: Compared with low RCI group, the forced expiration volume in 1 second (FEV1) and FEV1 in percent of the predicted value (FEV1%) in high RCI group were lower (p = 0.016, p = 0.001). There was a negative correlation between RCI and FEV1% (r = − 0.302, p = 0.004), while no correlation between FEV1% and NLR as well as PLR were found. RCI showed higher predictive value than NLR and PLR for predicting Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease classification (GOLD), with a cut-off value of 1.75 and area under the curve (AUC) of 0.729 (p = 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis proved that RCI was an independent factor for lung function in COPD patients (odds ratio [OR] = 4.27, 95% CI: 1.57– 11.63, p = 0.004).Conclusion: RCI is a novel biomarker that can better assess pulmonary function and severity of COPD than NLR and PLR. Cumulative survival was evaluated by Kaplan–Meier analysis. Factors associated with overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) prognosis were assessed using Cox’s proportional hazard regression models.Results: Median OS values for patients who underwent surgery were 19 and 32 months in the SEER database and Chinese center, respectively. Age was an independent predictor of OS in both datasets. Signet-ring cell cancer and perineural invasion were independent predictors of inferior OS only in the SEER dataset, while completeness of cytoreduction (CC) and peritoneal carcinomatosis index were independent predictors for OS and PFS only in the Chinese center. Median OS was 24 months in CRC patients with PM alone and 36 months in those with both PM and OM (p = 0.181). Further, median PSF in patients with PM alone was 10 months, while that in individuals with both PM and OM was 20 months (p = 0.181).Conclusion: Surgical treatment of the primary and metastatic sites is effective and safe for CRC patients with PM. CC-0 is recommended for improved prognosis. Thirteen newly diagnosed MM (NDMM), 13 refractory/relapsed MM (RRMM) and 33 continuous therapy (27 bortezomib peripheral neuritis (PN) intolerant and six maintenance therapy) MM patients were included. The indicated overall response rate (ORR), time to overall response (TOR), and adverse events (AEs) were investigated.Results: The ORR in NDMM was 76.9%, with one complete response (CR), five very good partial response (VGPR), four partial response (PR), median PFS, and TOR were 122 (66– 272) days and 49 (22– 108) days. The ORR in RRMM was 46.2%, with one CR, two VGPR, three PR, median PFS, and TOR were 79 (28– 169) days and 59 (23– 88) days. The ORR in continuous therapy MM patients was 100%, with nine stringent CR, 15 CR, six VGPR and three PR, median TOR was 75 (25– 141) days. There were no significant differences regarding ORR between patients with cytogenetic high risk and standard risk in three subgroups (all P> 0.05). The most frequent hematological AEs were anemia (13.6%) and thrombocytopenia (10.2%). The most common nonhematological AEs were PN (25.0%) and diarrhea (13.6%).Conclusion: The real-world data demonstrated that ixazomib-based therapy was generally effective and safe in the short term for MM patients.Keywords: multiple myeloma, ixazomib, real world, overall response rate, adverse events

43. An Economic Analysis of SC24 in Canada: A Randomized Study of SBRT Compared With Conventional Palliative RT for Spinal Metastases.

Abstract: PURPOSE: The Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) Symptom Control 24 protocol (SC.24) was a multicenter randomized controlled phase 2/3 trial conducted in Canada and Australia. Patients with painful spinal metastases were randomized to either 24 Gy/2 stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) or 20 Gy/5 conventional external beam radiation therapy (CRT). The study met its primary endpoint and demonstrated superior complete pain response rates at 3 months following SBRT (35%) versus CRT (14%). SBRT planning and delivery is resource intensive. Given its benefits in SC.24, we performed an economic analysis to determine the incremental cost-effectiveness of SBRT compared with CRT. METHODS AND MATERIALS: The trial recruited 229 patients. Cost-effectiveness was assessed using a Markov model taking into account observed survival, treatments costs, retreatment, and quality of life over the lifetime of the patient. The EORTC-QLU-C10D was used to determine quality of life values. Transition probabilities for outcomes were from available patient data. Health system costs were from the Canadian health care perspective and were based on 2021 Canadian dollars (CAD). The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was expressed as the ratio of incremental cost to quality-adjusted life years (QALY). The impact of parameter uncertainty was investigated using deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses. RESULTS: The base case for SBRT compared with CRT had an ICER of $9,040CAD per QALY gained. Sensitivity analyses demonstrated that the ICER was most sensitive to variations in the utility assigned to "No local failure" ($5,457CAD to $241,051CAD per QALY), adopting low and high estimates of utility and the cost of the SBRT (ICERs ranging from $7345-$123,361CAD per QALY). It was more robust to variations in assumptions around survival and response rate. CONCLUSIONS: SBRT is associated with higher upfront costs than CRT. 44. Vapor-liquid partitioning of alkaline earth and transition metals in NaCl-dominated hydrothermal fluids: An experimental study from 360 to 465°C, near-critical to halite saturated conditions

Abstract: Multi-phase fluid flow is a common occurrence in magmatic hydrothermal systems; and extensive modeling efforts using currently established P-V-T-x properties of the NaCl-H2O system are impending. We have therefore performed hydrothermal flow experiments (360-465°C) to observe vapor-liquid partitioning of alkaline earth and first row transition metals in NaCl-dominated source solutions. The data allow extraction of partition coefficients related to the intrinsic changes in both chlorinity and density along the two-phase solvus. The coefficients yield an overall decrease in vapor affinity in the order Cu(I)>Na>Fe(II)>Zn>Ni(II)≥Mg≥Mn(II)>Co(II)>Ca>Sr>Ba, distinguished with 95% confidence for vapor densities greater than ~0.2g/cm3. The alkaline earth metals are limited to purely electrostatic interactions with Cl ligands, resulting in an excellent linear correlation (R2>0.99) between their partition coefficients and respective ionic radii. Though broadly consistent with this relationship, relative behavior of the transition metals is not well resolved, being likely obscured by complex bonding processes and the potential participation of Na in the formation of tetra-chloro species. At lower densities (at/near halite saturation) partitioning behavior of all metals becomes highly non-linear, where M/Cl ratios in the vapor begin to increase despite continued decreases in chlorinity and density. We refer to this phenomenon as "volatility", which is broadly associated with substantial increases in the HCl/NaCl ratio (eventually to >1) due to hydrolysis of NaCl. Some transition metals (e.g., Fe, Zn) exhibit volatility prior to halite stability, suggesting a potential shift in vapor speciation relative to nearer critical regions of the vapor-liquid solvus. The chemistry of deep-sea hydrothermal fluids appears affected by this process during magmatic events, however, our results do not support suggestions of subseafloor halite precipitation recorded in currently available field data. Ca-Cl systematics in vent fluids are specifically explored, revealing behavior consistent with partitioning due to phase separation. Interestingly, the effect of variable chloride on dissolved Na/Ca ratios associated with plagioclase solubility (in single-phase solutions) appears fundamentally similar to that of phase separation on vapor compositions such that vapors evolved in hydrothermal systems may naturally remain near equilibrium with the host lithology. Conversely, residual liquids/brines left behind in the crust may be undersaturated with metals, enhancing the rate and extent of hydrothermal alteration.

Abstract: In their comment arXiv:1212.3831v1 Y. Zhou and M.W. Wu claim that the fundamental transport equation relating the current to the transmission function, used by us and in fact by numerous other researchers, is invalid for extended systems and should be corrected. They provide a "correct" new formula for transport in extended systems. This would be indeed a surprising new aspect of quantum transport theory. Here we show mathematically, however, that the new formula is a misconception resulting from adding an energy and momentum dependent function that has to vanish due to fundamental reasons. Results and conclusions stemming from adding this function are irrelevant. The known established formulas for quantum transport are consistent with each others under the well-documented conditions., Comment: addresses the varying versions and authors claims of arXiv:1212.3831v1

Abstract: Metallic-Cavity lasers or plasmonic nanolasers of sub-wavelength sizes have attracted great attentions in recent years, with the ultimate goal of achieving continuous wave (CW), room temperature (RT) operation under electrical injection. Despite great efforts, a conclusive and convincing demonstration of this goal has proven challenging. By overcoming several fabrication challenges imposed by the stringent requirement of such small scale devices, we were finally able to achieve this ultimate goal. Our metallic nanolaser with a cavity volume of 0.67{\lambda}3 ({\lambda}=1591 nm) shows a linewidth of 0.5 nm at RT, which corresponds to a Q-value of 3182 compared to 235 of the cavity Q, the highest Q under lasing condition for RT CW operation of any sub-wavelength laser. Such record performance provides convincing evidences of the feasibility of RT CW metallic nanolasers, thus opening a wide range of practical possibilities of novel nanophotonic devices based on metal-semiconductor structures., Comment: This paper has been withdrawn by the author after the final publication in Optics Express, 21, 4728(2013)

Abstract: A wide field of view Cherenkov/fluorescence telescope array is one of the main components of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory project. To serve as Cherenkov and fluorescence detectors, a flexible and mobile design is adopted for easy reconfiguring of the telescope array. Two prototype telescopes have been constructed and successfully run at the site of the ARGO-YBJ experiment in Tibet. The features and performance of the telescopes are presented.

49. Bifurcations in the optimal elastic foundation for a buckling column

Abstract: We investigate the buckling under compression of a slender beam with a distributed lateral elastic support, for which there is an associated cost. For a given cost, we study the optimal choice of support to protect against Euler buckling. We show that with only weak lateral support, the optimum distribution is a delta-function at the centre of the beam. When more support is allowed, we find numerically that the optimal distribution undergoes a series of bifurcations. We obtain analytical expressions for the buckling load around the first bifurcation point and corresponding expansions for the optimal position of support. Abstract: The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory project is proposed to study high energy gamma ray astronomy ( 40 GeV-1 PeV ) and cosmic ray physics ( 20 TeV-1 EeV ). The wide field of view Cherenkov telescope array, as a component of the LHAASO project, will be used to study energy spectrum and compositions of cosmic ray by measuring the total Cherenkov light generated by air showers and shower maximum depth. Two prototype telescopes have been in operation since 2008. The pointing accuracy of each telescope is crucial to the direction reconstruction of the primary particles. On the other hand the primary energy reconstruction relies on the shape of the Cherenkov image on the camera and the unrecorded photons due to the imperfect connections between photomultiplier tubes.
