Employee empowerment is crucial to attainment of customer satisfaction, continuous improvement and total quality. Empowerment, however, may not contribute to a company's quality efforts if the necessary conditions are absent. For this strategy to thrive, there must be participation within the organization. Employees must be involved willingly and actively with their work, and must desire improvements in their work processes and relationships. Apart from encouraging participation, an organization must also place due importance on innovation so that employees at all levels may feel free to innovate. A third essential condition is access to the kind of information that empowered employees need to perform their jobs. Increasing the accountability of employees for their behavior and performance is likewise important. Most of all, an organization must have a compassionate leader who respects people, is open to ideas and can motivate people to get involved., EMPLOYEE EMPOWERMENT IS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT OF TOTAL QUALITY.
