The aim of the study was to assess the effect of pelvic floor contraction on urethral mobility and the size of the urogenital hiatus, as well as to compare two ultrasonographic approaches for the assessment of urethral mobility: transperineal with a transabdominal probe and transvestibular with a transvaginal transducer.

Introduction: Cerebral arteriovenous malformations (CAVMs) are rare, with an estimated prevalence of 0.01%. Symptoms typically present in adults under 40, often beginning with hemorrhage in 61% of cases. The annual risk of hemorrhage is between 2–4%, with a mortality rate of 10%, and 50% of survivors may experience permanent neurological deficits. Embolization can induce changes in the angioarchitecture of the affected vessels. Our case uniquely demonstrates a morphological alteration in the carotid artery (CA) and its primary branches, associated with the presence of a CAVM. Detailed Case Presentation: A 52-year-old patient presented to the Emergency Department with weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting that began earlier that morning. Clinical and radiological evaluations suggested acute bleeding from a ruptured CAVM. The patient was admitted for digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and potential embolization. DSA confirmed the presence of a CAVM, supplied by the middle meningeal and occipital arteries, with distortion of the left CA angioarchitecture. Selective catheterization and embolization using Onyx 18 were successfully performed. After receiving supportive treatment, the patient was discharged in good condition. A follow-up CT scan three months later showed complete resolution of the brain pathologies. A repeat angiogram revealed no recanalization of the CAVM, with normalization of the CA and its branches. The patient is currently asymptomatic. Conclusions: Detection of pathological changes in the head and neck arteries linked to CAVM can predict rupture risk and complicate endovascular access. Identifying these changes early warrants consideration of interventions to prevent hemorrhage, though alternative access routes or strategies may be needed for safe, effective treatment.

The post-Dominican St. Dominic’s Church in Płock is one of the oldest sacral buildings in the city. Together with the adjacent monastery, it bears witness to the functioning of the so-called “Górki” community, comprising three denominations: Catholics, Protestants, and the Orthodox. The Romanesque complex was erected no later than the third decade of the thirteenth century, and it held significance on the map of medieval and modern Płock. The buildings themselves have undergone little change over the centuries, making the church and monastery locations with great research potential. Regrettably, the building has not yet been subjected to comprehensive archaeological research, preceded by a source query. Rectifying this situation was the primary goal of the project “At the Intersection of Faiths and Cultures – Research on the History of St. Dominic’s Church in Płock” funded by the “Grants4NCUStudents” budget. As part of it, a research team from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń conducted preliminary archaeological research of the crypts under St. Dominic’s Church in 2022. During a series of field trips, numerous boreholes were made in the crypt space as well as in the cellars under the east wing of the monastery. The backfill of the northern entrance hole was also cleared. The preliminary work facilitated further exploration of the strata undisturbed during the cleaning work carried out in the crypt in the twentieth century. The research led to the discovery of the remains of approximately 120 people, with the bones of 16 people deposited in an ossuary made of a wooden box. Artefacts of material culture were also recovered, which allowed to date the moment and sequence of changes occurring in the crypts. The results of the conducted research enabled the precise development of a further research strategy for the post-Dominican complex in Płock.

The paper analyses biometeorological conditions in Lublin based on the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI), and air quality based on the Common Air Quality Index (CAQI). The used data were obtained from the database of IMGW-PIB and RDEM, and cover the period 2015–2021. The most frequently occurring biometeorological conditions were classified as no thermal stress. They were observed with a frequency of 34.3%. Conditions unfavourable for the human organism accounted for 65.7% in total, including those belonging to thermal stress classes related to cold stress (52.3%), and heat stress (13.4%). In the analysed years, 75.5% of cases were with very low and low air pollution. High and very high air pollution usually occurred during biometeorological conditions related to cold stress (from slight cold stress to strong cold stress). During extreme thermal phenomena, such as a cold wave (January 2007) and hot wave (August 2015), unfavourable biometeorological conditions were accompanied by low aerosanitary conditions (low air quality). In the analysed period, and particularly in recent years, an improvement in air quality has been observed, potentially associated with limited mobility of people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Development of Research on Political Communication in Poland in a Global Context Political communication is the process of exchanging political messages between political actors and citizens thanks to the available communication channels. The first scientific research appeared before World War II in Anglo‑Saxon countries. The development took place in the late 1960s. The leading topics are: political actors and their activities (election campaigns, political marketing, public relations, advertising), voters, mass and social media. The research dedicated to political communication in Poland began in the 1990s at the universities, mainly in Katowice, Krakow, Lublin, Poznan, Warsaw and Wroclaw.

INTRODUCTION Emotions companions us in our everyday life and are still difficult to define. Among many functions, such as inducing physiological changes, availability to specific behaviors, the organizing or disorganizing influence of emotions is also distinguished. OBJECTIVE The aim of the article is to show the theory of emotions and answer the question whether they organize our actions or, on the contrary, promote disorganization. STATE OF THE ART. DESCRIPTION Among the many functions attributed to emotions are that they can direct our actions towards a given goal and sustain it, or vice versa. Emotion is, among other things, an expression of the action of instincts, it mobilizes the body, organizes action and performs an energizing function. Nowadays, attention is paid to the mobilizing aspects of emotions - weak or moderate emotions organize our functioning. Only a strong emotional state ceases to motivate, makes our actions disoriented. On the other hand, it is necessary to distinguish between emotional states and motivation. Watson shows emotions as a disorder of homeostasis along with numerous disorders of mental regulation. Clore, Clark, and Watson argue that dysfunctional are persistent, troublesome states that may be manifestations of affective or temperamental disorders rather than transient emotions. Speaking of emotion and its impact on action, it is worth mentioning and stopping at the issue of inhibition and expressing emotional states. CONCLUSION It is not possible to unequivocally determine that emotions either organize or disorganize our behavior, because a lot depends on the intensity of the experienced emotion and its direction

Introduction: Iqos and other heat-not-burn products according to tobacco companies are a safer alternative to cigarettes. The aim of this article is to objectively review the potential impact of iQOS® on human health by searching for and integrating published research findings. This article provides a comprehensive review and analysis of the scientific research conducted on the effects of Iqos use on human health, distinguishing between specific medical fields. Materials and methods: This study is based on medical articles collected from the PubMed database spanning the years 2016-2023. The research was conducted through the analysis of keywords such as "Iqos", "Heat not burn", and "Iqos health impact". Results: Tobacco heaters are seen as potentially less harmful. However, emerging research on their harmfulness clearly shows that despite reduced concentrations of compounds hazardous to health, the aerosol produced by heaters still contains the same harmful substances. Further studies show that the toxic impact of the aerosol is at a similar level to that of smoke from traditional cigarettes.

Introduction: Many wounds are treated surgically. For many years the method itself consisted mainly in cleaning the wounds and bringing its edges closer together, either by strips for closing the wounds or by suturing the wound with classic sutures or staples. Recently, new methods have emerged to support wound healing, which are discussed in this article. Materials and methods: The basis of the work were medical articles collected in the PubMed database. The research was conducted by analyzing key words such as: "surgical treatment of wounds", "new technologies in wounds", "wound healing and new technologies", "dressings in wound treatment", "new methods of accelerating wound healing". Results: In the process of surgical wound treatment the basis is still the closure and connection of the edges of the wounds, which prevents infections, accelerates healing and improves the cosmetic effect. However this is not the final stage of wound healing. Equally important is the subsequent appropriate selection of the dressing - appropriate in terms of its composition of active substances and absorption properties. The choice of the right dressing has a large impact on the final effect and the avoidance of infections or the subsequent appearance of the scar. Now we also have many new technologies to help heal wounds. They help not only to reduce the risk of infection, but also accelerate the healing process and shorten the treatment time.

Introduction: Venous malformations are congenital, the most occurring subtype of vascular malformations. They are characterized by slow flow, tortuosity and lack of macular layer within the vessel. Venous malformations can be highly problematic to diagnose and treat, thus differentiation the venous malformations with other diseases in pediatric population is important. Aim of the study: The aim of the study is to summarize the available knowledge about venous malformation in pediatric population. The options in diagnosis, treatment and potential new methods were summarized and described. Materials and methods The literature available in the PubMed database was reviewed using the following keywords: “Vascular malformations”, “Venous Malformations”, “Venous malformations treatment, “Children”. Conclusions: Venous malformations are an important problem in pediatric population, as a seldom affliction they can be easily misdiagnosed as other diseases and treated inadequately. Widening of awareness of venous malformations and possible methods of diagnosing and treating them is very important to raise quality of health care in children.

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is classified according to the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), but kidney volume (KV) can also provide meaningful information. Very few radiomics (RDX) studies on CKD have utilized computed tomography (CT). This study aimed to determine whether non-enhanced computed tomography (NECT)-based RDX can be useful in evaluation of patients with CKD and to compare it with KV. Methods: The NECT scans of 64 subjects with impaired kidney function (defined as <60 mL/min/1.73 m2) and 60 controls with normal kidney function were retrospectively analyzed. Kidney segmentations, volume measurements, and RDX features extraction were performed. Machine-learning models using RDX were constructed to classify the kidneys as having structural markers of impaired or normal function. Results: The median KV in the impaired kidney function group was 114.83 mL vs. 159.43 mL (p < 0.001) in the control group. There was a statistically significant strong positive correlation between KV and eGFR (rs = 0.579, p < 0.001) and a strong negative correlation between KV and serum creatinine level (rs = −0.514, p < 0.001). The KV-based models achieved the best area under the curve (AUC) of 0.746, whereas the RDX-based models achieved the best AUC of 0.878. Conclusions: RDX can be useful in identifying patients with impaired kidney function on NECT. RDX-based models outperformed KV-based models. RDX has the potential to identify patients with a higher risk of CKD based on imaging, which, as we believe, can indirectly support clinical decision-making. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ludwik Wołowski was a Polish November emigrant in France. There, he gained recognition as an outstanding economist, banker and republican politician. The article focuses on the issue of mortgage loan, which is extremely important for Wołowski. It presents both the theoretical concepts of the Pole from 1834, his political activity in the years 1848–1851 aimed at changing the provisions of the mortgage law in France, and finally the moment of co-creation by Wołowski Crédit Foncier, the first modern mortgage bank in France, and the further history of the bank managed by Wołowski, in the board of which he sat until his death in 1876. In the first part, the text presents not only the criticism of the French mortgage system by Wołowski (primarily the so-called secret mortgages), but also his draft changes and the loan and mortgage model proposed by him and the companies that may grant it. In the second, it shows the parliamentary activity of Wołowski, an attempt to force through appropriate changes in the banking law and the reasons for its defeat. In the third, the most extensive, the article describes not only the very moment of establishing Crédit Foncier and the two-year period of management by Wołowski, but also the further, controversial operation of the bank until the second half of the 1870s. All this against the backdrop of the changing French Monarchy of July, the Second Republic and the Second Empire.

Objective: Unusual clinical course Background: Arterioportal fistulas (APFs) are abnormal connections between the arterial and portal venous systems, leading to portal hypertension (PH) and symptoms such as gastrointestinal bleeding, splenomegaly, and hepatic pain. Symptoms typically appear by the age of 2 years in about 75% of cases. Case Report: A 7-year-old boy with an asymptomatic APF developed life-threatening complications following a Clostridium difficile infection. He initially had chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, weight loss, and anorexia for 3 weeks, despite normal liver enzymes. After antibiotic and antifungal treatment, his condition worsened, resulting in severe anemia and hemorrhagic shock due to variceal bleeding. Further evaluations revealed significant PH secondary to the APF. Intensive care involved blood transfusions, fluid resuscitation, and high-frequency ventilation. Emergency embolization successfully reduced PH and controlled bleeding. After stabilization, the patient was transferred for further care. A week later, a color Doppler ultrasound (CD-US) detected a thrombus in the left portal vein, which decreased by the 19-day follow-up. Spleen size reduction indicated decreased portal pressure. The presence and reduction of the thrombus and alleviation of PH symptoms indicate therapeutic success. Ten months after embolization, the patient remained asymptomatic, with normal liver function and no thrombus on follow-up imaging. Conclusions: Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial in managing congenital APF in children. Severe variceal bleeding triggered by exacerbated PH due to a Clostridium difficile infection demonstrates the complications of APF. Endovascular treatment was highly effective, resulting in significant improvement. The recommended diagnostic approach includes initial computed tomography angiogram and CD-US, followed by digital subtraction angiography with possible intervention, and monitoring with CD-US. The study analyses spatial and temporal variability of the UTCI index during winter seasons in Poland in the 21st century. The most frequent UTCI thermal stress category was moderate cold stress with a frequency varying from 45.8% in Łeba (Coastal region) to 66.1% in Zielona Góra (Central region). In mountain areas, this class was less frequent (7.312.3%). The second most frequent class was strong cold stress with values from 11.1% in Zakopane (Carpathian region) to 43.4% in Suwałki (North-East region). In mountain areas, very strong cold stress and extreme cold stress occurred frequently (25.0-35.5% and 17.7-52.0%, respectively). Few cases of extreme cold stress were observed on other Polish stations. Thermoneutral zone was not recorded in the mountain area, although on other Polish stations its frequency ranged from 0.1% in Chojnice, Suwałki and Białystok located in northern part of Poland to 4.3% in Zakopane (Carpathian region).

The objective of this paper is to describe bioclimatic conditions in Lublin and Radawiec in the period 1976–2015 using the UTCI index. The paper shows that in Lublin and Radawiec, the most frequent biometeorological conditions caused no heat stress and were neutral for the human organism. At the analysed stations, biometeorological conditions causing cold stress occurred more frequently than those causing heat stress. Biometeorological conditions in the analysed period were characterised by high year-to-year variability. We observed that in recent years there was an increase in frequency of conditions favouring heat stress and a decrease in conditions favouring cold stress.

A differentiation between hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and benign liver lesions is required. The aim of the study was to perform an analysis of the time of enhancement of focal liver lesions in a contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) examination. The curves of enhancement and the homogeneity of the tumor enhancement were assessed. The study included 52 patients with diagnoses of hepatocellular adenoma (18), focal nodular hyperplasia (11) and HCC (28). The study included magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography and a comparison of the obtained information with CEUS. In the benign lesions groups after 20–30 s, the enhancement was similar to the liver parenchyma. In the HCC group, the enhancement was slightly less intense compared to the liver parenchyma and the benign lesions. The difference of the enhancement in the arterial phase (benign lesions vs. HCC) was p = 0.0452, and the difference of enhancement in the late venous phase (benign lesions vs. HCC) was p = 0.000003. The homogeneity of the enhancement (benign lesions vs. HCC), respectively, was p = 0.001 in the arterial phase, p = 0.0003 in the portal venous phase and p = 0.00000007 in the late venous phase. Liver tumors can be classified as benign when they are homogenous in the arterial phase and don’t present washout. HCC in the arterial phase is inhomogeneous and washout is observed in the venous phases. When radiological symptoms suggest malignant lesion, CEUS can be used to select the best biopsy access.

In primary school, apprentice reader pupils acquire decoding, lexical and narrative skills which enable them to progressively become expert readers. They are thus able to use comprehension strategies that enable them to gain access to the meaning of the books they read. Literary picture books for children contribute to develop these skills. However, their mixed features, bringing images and texts together, may sometimes turn out to be an obstacle to their use in class. After an analysis of the place of picture books in the curriculum of the « Éducation nationale », this testimony centers around classroom practice and field considerations. It finally ponders on the use of this medium in cycle 3.
