In this work, we derive a generalized modified Friedmann equation based on an entropy-area relation that incorporates established modifications, such as volumetric, linear, and logarithmic terms, in addition to novel entropic modifications that might yield to relevant cosmological implications at different stages of the evolution of the Universe. Some of these modifications are capable of mimicking the effects of dark energy and describing the current state of accelerated expansion of the Universe. We study particular cases of the generalized Friedmann equation and constrain the free parameters using observational datasets, including Hubble parameter measurements, baryon acoustic oscillations, and strong lensing systems. Our findings indicate that the proposed models align well with current observational data, particularly in low-redshift regimes; furthermore, these models are compatible with the value of $H_0$ obtained by the SH0ES program., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

We investigate the anomalous Chromomagnetic Dipole Moment (CMDM), $\hat{\mu}^{BLHM}_t$ of the top quark in the Bestest Little Higgs Model (BLHM). We include new interactions with the involvement of the extended CKM matrix of the BLHM and we explore most of the allowed parameter space, obtaining multiple CMDM in the range of $10^{-4}-10^{-2}$. We consider experimental and model parameter uncertainties to integrate them into all our calculations using a Monte Carlo method. This enables us to determine the extent to which deviations arising from experimental errors can be accommodated within the statistical errors of the model and which relate to the physics framework of the BLHM, guiding future theory, phenomenological, and experimental research.

The location of the center of rotation (COR) of joints is a key parameter in multiple applications of human motion analysis. The aim of this work was to propose a novel real-time estimator of the center of fixed joints using an inertial measurement unit (IMU). Since the distance to this center commonly varies during the joint motion due to soft tissue artifacts (STA), our approach is aimed at adapting to these small variations when the COR is fixed. Our proposal, called ArVEd, to the best of our knowledge, is the first real-time estimator of the IMU-joint center vector based on one IMU. Previous works are off-line and require a complete measurement batch to be solved and most of them are not tested on the real scenario. The algorithm is based on an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) that provides an adaptive vector to STA motion variations at each time instant, without requiring a pre-processing stage to reduce the level of noise. ArVEd has been tested through different experiments, including synthetic and real data. The synthetic data are obtained from a simulated spherical pendulum whose COR is fixed, considering both a constant and a variable IMU-joint vector, that simulates translational IMU motions due to STA. The results prove that ArVEd is adapted to obtain a vector per sample with an accuracy of 6.8$\pm$3.9 on the synthetic data, that means an error lower than 3.5% of the simulated IMU-joint vector. Its accuracy is also tested on the real scenario estimating the COR of the hip of 5 volunteers using as reference the results from an optical system. In this case, ArVEd gets an average error of 9.5% of the real vector value. We apply Wald's formalism to a Lagrangian within generalised Proca gravity that admits a Schwarzschild black hole with a non-trivial vector field. The resulting entropy differs from that of the same black hole in General Relativity by a logarithmic correction modulated by the only independent charge of the vector field. We find conditions on this charge to guarantee that the entropy is a non-decreasing function of the black hole area, as is the case in GR. If this requirement is extended to black hole mergers, we find that for Planck scale black holes, a non-decreasing entropy is possible only if the area of the final black hole is several times larger than the initial total area of the merger. Finally, we discuss some implications of the vector Galileon entropy from the point of view of entropic gravity.

In this work we study the effects of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) in cosmology. We start with the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) model endowed with a scalar field. Flare frequency distributions represent a key approach to addressing one of the largest problems in solar and stellar physics: determining the mechanism that counter-intuitively heats coronae to temperatures that are orders of magnitude hotter than the corresponding photospheres. It is widely accepted that the magnetic field is responsible for the heating, but there are two competing mechanisms that could explain it: nanoflares or Alfv\'en waves. To date, neither can be directly observed. Nanoflares are, by definition, extremely small, but their aggregate energy release could represent a substantial heating mechanism, presuming they are sufficiently abundant. One way to test this presumption is via the flare frequency distribution, which describes how often flares of various energies occur. If the slope of the power law fitting the flare frequency distribution is above a critical threshold, $\alpha=2$ as established in prior literature, then there should be a sufficient abundance of nanoflares to explain coronal heating. We performed $>$600 case studies of solar flares, made possible by an unprecedented number of data analysts via three semesters of an undergraduate physics laboratory course. This allowed us to include two crucial, but nontrivial, analysis methods: pre-flare baseline subtraction and computation of the flare energy, which requires determining flare start and stop times. We aggregated the results of these analyses into a statistical study to determine that $\alpha = 1.63 \pm 0.03$. In this paper we study the viability of an entropic cosmological model. The effects of entropic gravity are derived from a modified entropy-area relationship with a volumetric entropy term. This model describes a late time limit cosmic acceleration, whose origin is related to a volumetric term in the entropy. Moreover, we analyze the phenomenological implications of the entropic model using the Supernovae Pantheon compilation and the observational Hubble parameter data to find consistency with cosmological observations. Finally, we show the equivalence between the entropic model and a brane world cosmological model, by means of an effective geometrical construction., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures. A calculation of weak dipole moments of charged fermions of the Standard Model (SM) at the one-loop level, in the context of a general effective extended neutral current model with flavor changing $Z^\prime f_i \bar{f}_j$ vertices, is presented. We give numerical predictions for the anomalous weak magnetic dipole moment (AWMDM) $a^w_{fi}$, and the weak electric dipole moment (WEDM) $d^w_{f_i}$, for the $\tau$ lepton and $t$ quark. For several $Z^\prime$ gauge bosons considered, we find that, for the $\tau$ lepton, the best prediction for the real part of $a^w_{\tau}$ is of the order of $10^{-9}$, while the imaginary part is four orders of magnitude below. The highest value for the WEDM, $d^w_{\tau}$, corresponds to $10^{-26}$ $e$-cm, for its real part, and the imaginary part is three orders of magnitude below. On the other hand, we found for the top quark, that the best prediction for the real part of $a^w_t$ is of the order of $10^{-7}$ and its imaginary part is of the order of $10^{-11}$. We also found that $d^w_t$ is of the order of $10^{-26}$ $e$-cm for its real part, and its imaginary part can be as high as $10^{-31}$ $e$-cm., Comment: 25 pages, 7 figures

Together with any Beyond the Standard Model ultraviolet complete, renormalizable model, one or several exotic particles are usually hypothesized. $C\!P$-even neutral and doubly-charged scalars are common, well known examples which can contribute to the seven 3-body Charged Lepton Flavor Violating decays. The experimental bounds on each Branching Ratio within this set of processes provide a good test for new physics that can induce powerful constraints on relevant parameter spaces. This is specially true for a third species of particle which, unlike the previous two, is a rare feature of renormalizable models: a doubly charged vector bilepton. We show how these purely leptonic bounds can indeed induce relevant exclusion regions for the corresponding particles masses, stronger than what have been considered in the literature for the alternative flavor conserving case, and examine how interference effects can influence these regions in a non-trivial way.

An Imaging Neutral Particle Analyser (INPA) diagnostic has been designed for the ASDEX Upgrade (AUG) tokamak. The AUG INPA diagnostic will measure fast neutrals escaping the plasma after CX reactions. The neutrals will be ionised by a 20 nm carbon foil and deflected towards a scintillator by the local magnetic field. The use of a neutral beam injector (NBI) as active source of neutrals will provide radially resolved measurements while the use of a scintillator as active component will allow us to cover the whole plasma along the NBI line with unprecedented phase-space resolution ($ < $ 12 keV and 8 cm) and fast temporal response (up to 1 kHz with the high resolution acquisition system and above 100 kHz with the low resolution one); making it suitable to study localised fast-ions redistributions in phase-space.

We calculate the chromomagnetic dipole moment of the top quark, $\hat{\mu}_t$, in the context of the Bestest Little Higgs model. This extension of the Standard Model aims to solve the hierarchy problem without fine tuning, by introducing one-loop corrections to the Higgs boson mass through heavy top quark partners and heavy gauge bosons. We found that the largest resulting value for the chromomagnetic is $\hat{\mu}_t\sim 10^{-5}$ and the lowest is around $10^{-6}$, mainly due to the Higgs boson of the Standard Model, which couples to both the top quark of the Standard Model and its heavy partners. A new proposal to compute the anomalous chromomagnetic dipole moment of the top quark, $\hat{\mu}_t$, in the Standard Model is presented. On the basis of the 5-dimensional effective Lagrangian operator that characterizes the quantum-loop induced chromodipolar vertices $gt\bar{t}$ and $ggt\bar{t}$, the $\hat{\mu}_t$ anomaly is derived via radiative correction at the 1-loop level from the non-Abelian 4-body vertex function $ggt\bar{t}$. We evaluate $\hat{\mu}_t(s)$ as a function of the energy scale $s=\pm E^2$, for $E=[10,1000]$ GeV, taking into account the running of the quark masses and alpha strong through the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ scheme. In particular, we find that at the typical energy scale $E=m_Z$ for high-energy physics, similarly to $\alpha_s(m_Z^2)$, $\alpha(m_Z^2)$ and $s_W(m_Z^2)$, the spacelike evaluation yields $\hat{\mu}_t(-m_Z^2)$ $=$ $-0.025$$+$$0.00384i$ and the timelike $\hat{\mu}_t(m_Z^2)$ $=$ $-0.0318$$-$$0.0106i$. This Re$\thinspace\hat{\mu}_t(-m_Z^2)$ $=$ $-0.025$ from $ggt\bar{t}$ is even closer to the experimental central value $\hat{\mu}_t^\mathrm{Exp}=$ $-0.024$, than that coming from the known 3-body vertex function $gt\bar{t}$, $-0.0224$. Once again, the Im$\thinspace\hat{\mu}_t(-m_Z^2)$ part is due to the contribution of virtual charged currents, just like in the $gt\bar{t}$ case. This work presents a new multiphase SPH model that includes the shifting algorithm and a variable smoothing length formalism to simulate multi-phase flows with accuracy and proper interphase management. The implementation was performed in the DualSPHysics code and validated for different canonical experiments, such as the single-phase and multiphase Poiseuille and Couette test cases. The method is accurate even for the multiphase case for which two phases are simulated. The shifting algorithm and the variable smoothing length formalism has been applied in the multiphase SPH model to improve the numerical results at the interphase even when it is highly deformed and non-linear effects become important. The obtained accuracy in the validation tests and the good interphase definition in the instability cases indicate an important improvement in the numerical results compared with single-phase and multiphase models where the shifting algorithm and the variable smoothing length formalism are not applied., Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures, 10th International Conference on Supercomputing in Mexico, ISUM 2019

In this work we study the symmetry breaking conditions, given by a (anti)de Sitter-valued vector field, of a full (anti)de Sitter-invariant MacDowell-Mansouri inspired action. We show that under these conditions the action breaks down to General Relativity with a cosmological constant, the four dimensional topological invariants, as well as the Holst term. Leishmania lipophosphoglycan is a molecule that has been used as a vaccine candidate, with contradictory results. Since unsuccessful protection could be related to suppressed T cell responses, we analyzed the expression of inhibitory receptor PD-1 in CD8+ and CD4+ lymphocytes and it is ligand PD-L2 in macrophages of BALB/c mice immunized with various doses of Leishmania mexicana LPG and re-stimulated in vitro with different concentrations of LPG. Vaccination with LPG enhanced the expression of PD-1 in CD8+ cells. Activation molecules CD137 were reduced in CD8+ cells from vaccinated mice. In vitro re-stimulation enhanced PD-L2 expression in macrophages of healthy mice in a dose-dependent fashion. The expression of PD-1, PD-L2, and CD137 is modulated according to the amount of LPG used during immunization and in vitro re-stimulation. We analyzed the expression of these molecules in mice infected with 1 x 10'4 or 1 x 10'5 L. mexicana promastigotes and re-stimulated in vitro with LPG. Infection with 1 x 10'5 parasites increased the PD-1 expression in CD8+ and diminished PD-L2 in macrophages. When these CD8+ cells were re-stimulated in vitro with LPG, simulating a second exposure to parasite antigens, PD-1 expression increased significantly more, in a dose-dependent fashion. We conclude that CD8+ T lymphocytes and macrophages express inhibition molecules according to the concentrations of Leishmania LPG and to the parasite load. Vaccination with increased amounts of LPG or infections with higher parasite numbers induces enhanced expression of PD-1 and functional inactivation of CD8+ cells, which can have critical consequences in leishmaniasis since these cells are crucial for disease control., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures

We use the ideas of entropic gravity to derive the FRW cosmological model and show that for late time evolution we have an effective cosmological constant. By using the first law of thermodynamics and the modified entropy area relationship derived from the supersymmetric Wheeler-DeWitt equation of the Schwarzschild black hole, we obtain modifications to the Friedmann equations that in the late time regime gives an effective positive cosmological constant. We define the frame potential for a Schauder frame on a finite dimensional Banach space as the square of the $2$-summing norm of the frame operator. As is the case for frames for Hilbert spaces, we prove that the frame potential can be used to characterize finite unit norm tight frames (FUNTFs) for finite dimensional Banach spaces. We prove the existence of FUNTFs for a variety of spaces, and in particular that every $n$-dimensional complex Banach space with a $1$-unconditional basis has a FUNTF of $N$ vectors for every $N\geq n$. However, many interesting results on FUNTFs and sums of rank one projections for Hilbert spaces remain unknown for Banach spaces and we conclude the paper with multiple open questions., Comment: 16 pages

In this work we derive a generalized Newtonian gravitational force and show that it can account for the anomalous galactic rotation curves. We derive the entropy-area relationship applying the Feynman-Hibbs procedure to the supersymmetric Wheeler-DeWitt equation of the Schwarzschild black hole. Si-MOS based QD qubits are attractive due to their similarity to the current semiconductor industry. We introduce a highly tunable MOS foundry compatible qubit design that couples an electrostatic quantum dot (QD) with an implanted donor. We show for the first time coherent two-axis control of a two-electron spin qubit that evolves under the QD-donor exchange interaction and the hyperfine interaction with the donor nucleus. The two interactions are tuned electrically with surface gate voltages to provide control of both qubit axes. Qubit decoherence is influenced by charge noise, which is of similar strength as epitaxial systems like GaAs and Si/SiGe.

Despite their ubiquity in nanoscale electronic devices, the physics of tunnel barriers has not been developed to the extent necessary for the engineering of devices in the few-electron regime. This problem is of urgent interest, as this is the precise regime into which current, extreme-scale electronics fall. Here, we propose theoretically and validate experimentally a compact model for multi-electrode tunnel barriers, suitable for design-rules-based engineering of tunnel junctions in quantum devices. We perform transport spectroscopy at $T=4$ K, extracting effective barrier heights and widths for a wide range of biases, using an efficient Landauer-B\"uttiker tunneling model to perform the analysis. We find that the barrier height shows several regimes of voltage dependence, either linear or approximately exponential. The exponential dependence approximately correlates with the formation of an electron channel below an electrode. Effects on transport threshold, such as metal-insulator-transition and lateral confinement are non-negligible and included. We compare these results to semi-classical solutions of Poisson's equation and find them to agree qualitatively. The presence of phantom dark energy in brane world cosmology generates important new effects, causing a premature Big Rip singularity when we increase the presence of extra dimension and considerably competing with the other components of our Universe. The idea is based first, in only considering a field with the characteristic equation $\omega<-1$ and after that, consider the explicit form of the scalar field with a potential with a maximum (with the aim of avoid a Big Rip singularity). In both cases we study the dynamic in a robust form through the dynamical analysis theory, detailing in parameters like the deceleration $q$ and the vector field associated to the dynamical system.
