Abstract

With the advancement of new power system construction, distribution networks are gradually transforming from being a simple energy receiver and distributor to being an integrated power network that integrates sources, networks, loads, and energy storage with interactive and flexible coupling with the upper-level power grid. However, traditional distribution networks lack active control and distribution capabilities, failing to meet the demands of network transformation and upgrading. To address this issue, this paper proposes a method for solving AC/DC power flow calculation considering an electric energy router (EER) based on an alternating iterative method. Initially, the model for the multi-port EER and three types of power flow models for the AC distribution network, DC distribution network, and EER are constructed. By leveraging the properties of the EER and the hybrid power flow calculation model, a method is proposed for calculating the power flow in the AC/DC hybrid distribution network considering the EER. Finally, by solving the power flow in a medium- and low-voltage AC/DC distribution system, the adaptability of the proposed method is compared. The results demonstrate that the AC/DC hybrid distribution network power flow calculation method established in this paper, which incorporates the EER, possesses high accuracy and adaptability, with an error margin of less than 0.05%. Abstract

This paper thoroughly explores the feasibility of integrating a variety of intelligent electrical equipment and smart maintenance technologies within nuclear power plants to enhance the currently limited level of intelligence of these systems and better support operational and maintenance tasks. Initially, this paper outlines the demands and challenges of intelligent electrical systems in nuclear power plants, highlighting the current state of development of intelligent electrical systems, including new applications of artificial intelligence and big data technologies in power grid companies, such as intelligent defect recognition through image recognition, intelligence-assisted inspections, and intelligent production commands. This paper then provides a detailed introduction to the architecture of intelligent electrical equipment, encompassing the smart electrical equipment layer, the smart control system layer, and the cloud platform layer. It discusses the intelligentization of medium- and low-voltage electrical equipment, such as smart circuit breakers, smart switchgear, and low-voltage distribution systems, emphasizing the importance of intelligentization in improving the safety, reliability, and maintenance efficiency of medium- and low-voltage distribution equipment in nuclear power plants. Furthermore, this paper addresses issues in the intelligentization of nuclear power plant electrical systems, such as information silos, the inefficiency of traditional manual inspection processes, and the lack of comprehensive intelligent design and evaluation standards, proposing corresponding solutions. Additionally, this paper presents the trends in intelligent operation and maintenance technology and applications, including primary and secondary fusion technology, intelligent patrol system architecture, intelligent inspection based on non-destructive testing, and a comprehensive solution based on inspection robots. The application of these technologies aids in achieving automated inspection, real-time monitoring, and the intelligent diagnosis of electrical equipment in nuclear power plants. Finally, this paper proposes basic principles for the development of intelligent electrical systems in nuclear power plants, including intelligent architecture, the evolutionary path, and phased goals and key technologies. It emphasizes the gradual transition from automation to digitization and then to intelligentization and presents a specific implementation plan for the intelligentization of the electrical systems in nuclear power plants. This paper concludes with a summary of short-term and long-term goals for improving the performance of nuclear power plant electrical systems through intelligent technologies and prospects for the application of intelligent technologies in the operation and maintenance of nuclear power plants in the future. 16. Effects of Applied Voltage on Branching of Positive Leaders in Laboratory Long Sparks.

Abstract

Positive leaders branch less frequently than negative counterpart, and the physical processes and properties of positive leader branching remain a mystery. We investigated 10 m laboratory discharges under four positive voltages using a high‐speed video camera. Positive leaders differ from negative leaders by either directly splitting or connecting with floating bidirectional leaders to form branching, and the number of leader branches shows a positive correlation with the applied voltage, that is, the branched channels increased from 1 to 4 when the voltage increased by a factor of 1.5. Grounding points are positioned beneath the electrode and are more concentrated with lower voltage. During the stable progression of the leader, there is a slight increase in its development speed as the applied voltage rises. When the voltage is increased by 70%, the average breakdown time decreases by 40%. These characteristics provide insights into the branching mechanism of positive leaders. Plain Language Summary: The discharge mechanisms in natural and laboratory discharges are highly complex. This study aims to unravel the branching mechanism of positive leaders through laboratory experiments. A specific 10 m rod‐to‐plate discharge gap was designed to vary the maximum applied voltage, making it possible to examine the effects of applied voltage on the leader discharging trunk and branched channels. The statistical results indicate that as the peak voltage increases, the number of leader channels during the discharging process also increases. In natural lightning, positive leader channels generally exhibit low bifurcation rates, whereas in our study, the maximum number of discharging channels reached four with a sufficiently high applied voltage. The strike ground points of the trunk channel tend to be more dispersed when the applied voltage increases. Additionally, as the voltage rises, the average propagation speed of the leader trunk channel also increases. Our study presents the first systematic findings in this field, with crucial implications for a comprehensive understanding on the leader branching process and the development of discharge models. Abstract

Introduction: The reliability of power equipment is the foundation for maintaining the reliability of the power grid. As a core device for limiting overvoltage in the power grid, lightning arresters have received widespread attention, and ensuring their reliability is crucial. Methods: To improve the reliability of zinc oxide surge arresters in the power system, the fault characteristics and health assessment methods of zinc oxide surge arresters were studied using reliability centered condition-based maintenance(RCCM). Firstly, the fault characteristic of zinc oxide lightning arresters in operation over years were collected and analyzed from different aspects. Then the effective state quantities corresponding to different types of defects and their detection methods were proposed. The health status evaluation model for zinc oxide lightning arrester was established, and the effectiveness of the evaluation model was verified through fault cases. Results and Discussion: It shows that the proposed state quantities and RCCM method are suitable for the actual operation and maintenance of zinc oxide lightning arresters. 28. Numerical Simulation of Streamer Discharge Using Physics-Informed Neural Networks

Abstract

The streamer discharge physical process can be described by the coupled Poisson’s equation and the convection–diffusion equation. It is a multi-physical field problem involving electromagnetism and hydrodynamics. We propose a streamer discharge model based on physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) to improve the computational efficiency regarding the classical approach. Poisson’s equation and the convection–diffusion equation are trained to generate sufficient data and construct a deep operator network (DeepONet). The performance of the PINN, in terms of accuracy, is analyzed by applying it to different datasets (electron density and potential distribution) and comparing to a reference solution (spatial evolution of electrons). The simulation results show that the neural network (NN) has high accuracy in learning two types of equations.

29. An Edge Computing-Oriented Islanding Detection Using Differential Entropy and Multi-Support Vector Machines

Abstract

This paper presents an edge computing-oriented islanding detection paradigm using multi-support vector machines (SVM) and differential entropy. The proposed methodology can detect islanding events and locate which microgrid was disconnected in a distribution system with microgrid cluster. The proposed method employs multi-SVMs in the cloud to detect and locate potential islanding events in power distribution systems. The accuracy and reliability of the results of SVMs are enhanced by introducing differential entropy for quantitative evaluation. Additionally, the method decomposes the SVM inference process at the edge, enabling edge devices with low computational power and limited resources to support data-driven algorithms without compromising accuracy and speed. An extensive study is performed on the modified IEEE123 distribution system established in real-time digital simulation. Simulation results elucidate that the proposed method can accurately and promptly detect system islanding operations with zero non-detection zone. Comparison with other methods illustrates the superiority of the proposed method in terms of discrimination accuracy, detection time, and reliability.

31. Reliability Analysis of Nuclear Power Plant Electrical System Considering Common Cause Failure Based on GO-FLOW.

Abstract

The reliability of nuclear power plant electrical systems is an important guarantee of nuclear safety, and the common fault failure problem arising from redundant design and intelligent control may greatly affect reliability assessment results. Combined with the features of repairability, multi-state characteristics, and common fault failure of nuclear power plant electrical systems, a reliability analysis method of nuclear power plant electrical systems based on the GO-FLOW method considering common fault failure is proposed. This study firstly constructs the algorithmic model of combining operators of repairable components and the equivalent model of reliability parameters of multi-mode repairable components, then establishes a probability calculation model of common fault failure for repairable systems by considering the quantitative computation of the common signaling system model, and finally, quantitatively calculates the reliability of nuclear power plant electrical systems and their influencing factors. The example simulation calculates the reliability of the external power supply system and the electrical system of the nuclear power plant, analyzes the influence of the common signal processing and the common fault failure factors on the reliability of the electrical system of the nuclear power plant, and verifies the validity of the proposed method. The results show that the common fault failure factors have a large impact on the system reliability analysis; the common fault failure of the standby diesel generator set will seriously reduce the reliability of the electrical system, which can be improved by installing additional standby diesel generators. Taking 10 kV oil‐immersed transformer as the research object, using the indirect coupling analysis method of electromagnetic thermal fluid multi‐physical field, the transformer heating characteristics under overheating faults, such as winding inter‐turn short circuit and core multi‐point grounding, are analysed, and the transformer abnormal heating state identification method is proposed based on the inversion of transformer top oil temperature rise. By inverting the transformer normal top oil temperature rise under different load rates and comparing it with the actual measured value, taking into account the top oil temperature rise inversion error, it is determined that when the top oil temperature rise measured value is higher than the inversion value by 2.9 K, it indicates the transformer is in an abnormal heating state, and the higher the deviation degree is, the deeper the degree of abnormal heating fault. The accuracy of the transformer abnormal heating state identification method is verified by the multi‐working condition temperature rise test, which can provide a certain reference for the detection and maintenance of transformer abnormal internal heating faults.
