The recycling of cathode materials for spent NCM has always been a major concern for the energy industry. However, among the current processing methods, the general leaching efficiency of Li is between 85% and 93%, with much room for improvement. The recovery of Ni, Co and Mn requires a high cost of secondary purification. In this study, to recycle the NCM cathode material, a route of sulphated reduction roasting – selective Li water leaching – efficiency acid leaching of Ni, Co, Mn – extraction separation – crystallisation was adopted. The results showed that after roasting (a temperature of 800 °C, a reaction time of 90 min, a carbon content of 26%, and a sulphuric acid addition of nH2SO4:nLi = 0.85), Li water leaching efficiency was 98.6%, followed by acid leaching of Ni, Co and Mn at around 99%. Mn, Co were extracted with Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid and 2-Ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester respectively to obtain Ni, Co, Mn solutions, which eventually were crystallized for manganese sulphate, cobalt sulphate, lithium carbonate and nickel sulphate products, with high purity of 99.40%, 98.95%, 99.10%, and 99.95%. The results of this study improved the leaching efficiency of Li and were closely linked to the actual industrial preparation of Ni, Co and Mn sulphates, providing a feasible and promising basis for spent NCM cathode materials industrial recovery.

Background Pancreatic cancer is a highly malignant tumor of the gastrointestinal system whose emerging resistance to chemotherapy has necessitated the development of novel antitumor treatments. Scoparone, a traditional Chinese medicine monomer with a wide range of pharmacological properties, has attracted considerable attention for its antitumor activity. Aim To explore the potential antitumor effect of scoparone on pancreatic cancer and the possible molecular mechanism of action. Methods The target genes of scoparone were determined using both the bioinformatics and multiplatform analyses. The effect of scoparone on pancreatic cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion, cell cycle, and apoptosis was detected in vitro. The expression of hub genes was tested using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and the molecular mechanism was analyzed using Western blot. The in vivo effect of scoparone on pancreatic cancer cell proliferation was detected using a xenograft tumor model in nude mice as well as immunohistochemistry. Results The hub genes involved in the suppression of pancreatic cancer by scoparone were obtained by network bioinformatics analyses using publicly available databases and platforms, including SwissTargetPrediction, STITCH, GeneCards, CTD, STRING, WebGestalt, Cytoscape, and Gepia; AKT1 was confirmed using qRT-PCR to be the hub gene. Cell Counting Kit-8 assay revealed that the viability of Capan-2 and SW1990 cells was significantly reduced by scoparone treatment exhibiting IC50 values of 225.2 μmol/L and 209.1 μmol/L, respectively. Wound healing and transwell assays showed that scoparone inhibited the migration and invasion of pancreatic cancer cells. Additionally, flow cytometry confirmed that scoparone caused cell cycle arrest and induced apoptosis. Scoparone also increased the expression levels of Bax and cleaved caspase-3, decreased the levels of MMP9 and Bcl-2, and suppressed the phosphorylation of Akt without affecting total PI3K and Akt. Moreover, compared with the control group, xenograft tumors, in the 200 μmol/L scoparone treatment group, were smaller in volume and lighter in weight, and the percentages of Ki65- and PCNA-positive cells were decreased. Conclusion Our findings indicate that scoparone inhibits pancreatic cancer cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo, inhibits migration and invasion, and induces cycle arrest and apoptosis in vitro through the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.

There are few biomarkers available for the early diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of pancreatic cancer. In addition, the development of targeted therapy for pancreatic cancer is an unmet need due to the lack of molecular targets. With the continuous progress in circular RNA (circRNA)-related research, its role in the occurrence and development of pancreatic cancer has been discovered and gradually recognized. Therefore, circRNA may represent a novel marker for early diagnosis of this disease and a focus of targeted clinical therapy. CircRNA is a type of non-coding RNA with a closed circular structure formed by covalent bonds. Some circRNAs can act as “sponges” to adsorb microRNAs (miRNAs) and play the role of competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) to remove their inhibitory effects on the target genes of miRNA. Thus, they can indirectly restore the expression of target genes. The circRNA–miRNA–mRNA network plays a regulatory role in the proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and other biological behaviors of pancreatic cancer. Given the recent advances in circRNA, this review seeks to provide an overview of the biological function of circRNA and highlights the recent research progress regarding the molecular mechanism of circRNA for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer.

In the supply chain environment, agile distribution refined the division of operations, responded quickly to the customer needs of the mobile terminal, and promoted the construction of an intelligent logistics distribution system. In order to integrate the distribution resources of the distribution system of the logistics industry and maximize the overall benefits of distribution, this paper designs an intelligent logistics agile distribution model and optimizes the distribution strategy. Firstly, this paper puts forward a rationalization evaluation system based on the established logistics agile distribution model. Make full use of the fuzzy subsets of each level to quantify the fuzzy indexes to evaluate, and then comprehensively clarify the index attributes through the fuzzy transformation criteria to obtain the evaluation results. Secondly, aiming at the networked agile distribution organization form, the scientific location mathematical model of agile distribution center and the path mathematical model of the agile distribution are established. Finally, the uncertain influence of many objective conditions on distribution agility has been analyzed, and the dynamic optimization model of an agile distribution path with the concept of time window under random demand is constructed. Through the experimental analysis, the rationalization evaluation strategy and index of verification test results show that the model has significant optimization advantages, which not only improve the rationality and economic benefits of distribution, but also meet the time requirements of all users.

High concentration oxygen is widely used in the treatment of neonates, which has a significant effect on improving blood oxygen concentration in neonates with respiratory distress. The adverse effects of hyperoxia therapy on the lung, retina, and neurodevelopment of newborns have been extensively studied, but less attention has been paid to intestinal damage caused by hyperoxia therapy. In this review, we focus on the physical, immune, and microorganism barriers of the intestinal tract and discuss neonatal intestinal tract damage caused by hyperoxia therapy and analyze the molecular mechanism of intestinal damage caused by hyperoxia in combination with necrotizing enterocolitis.

The present study aimed to investigate whether bone morphogenetic protein‑2 (BMP‑2) was involved in the repair of mandibular defects using polyether‑ether‑ketone biphasic bioceramic (PEEK‑BBC) composites in rabbits. PEEK‑BBC composites with abundant and interconnected pores were prepared by calcination and characterized by scanning electron microscope. A mandibular defect model in rabbits was established using dental grinder to produce a square hole. A total of 60 rabbits were divided into four groups: Control, sham, surgery, and PEEK. In the PEEK group, the holes were filled with the PEEK‑BBC composite stents. In the surgery group, the holes were produced but not filled with the composite stents. In the sham group, only the molar grooves were exposed and grinding was not performed. Animals without any treatment served as the control group. The success rate of model establishment was 100%. At 4, 8, and 16 weeks after the model was established, samples were collected from the molding sites. Bone repair was evaluated by H&E staining and Goldner trichrome staining. Bone structures in both control and sham groups were intact. A small number of osteocytes were observed in the surgery group. However, in the PEEK group, osteocytes were already evidently present in the composites at 4 weeks after surgery. At 8 and 16 weeks, there were large numbers of osteocytes in the pores of the composites. The mRNA and protein expression levels of BMP‑2 were determined by reverse transcription‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting, respectively. The mRNA and protein expression levels of BMP‑2 between the control and sham groups were similar and were continuously stable. However, following defect treatment, BMP‑2 mRNA and protein expression was upregulated, which was enhanced by the PEEK‑BBC composites. In conclusion, PEEK‑BBC composites promoted the growth of osteocytes and repaired mandibular defects in rabbits, potentially via the upregulation of BMP‑2 expression.

Background: Tetrahydroxystilbene glucoside (TSG) is a main bioactive component of Polygonum multiflorum, a traditional Chinese medicine known for certain anti-aging effects. Since TSG has been found to extend lifespan in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, we hypothesized that TSG might produce anti-aging benefits in mammals. Objective: The aim was to evaluate the anti-aging potential of TSG and to explore its relative molecular mechanism. Methods: Mice were maintained on standard diet, high-calorie diet (HC), or high-calorie plus TSG diet. Survival rates and body weight changes were recorded weekly. Rotarod analysis was performed to assess the physical fitness of mice. Bone mineral density was assessed using micro-computed tomography. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was used for the histological examination of heart, liver, and kidney pathology. The mRNA and protein expression of target genes were analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting, respectively. Mitotracker deep red staining and high-content analysis were used to quantify cellular mitochondrial mass and function. Results: In this study, we found that TSG improved the physiology of aged mice consuming excess calories and delayed senile symptoms. The anti-aging benefits of TSG were mediated at least in part by the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)/sirtuin 1 (SIRT1)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) signaling cascade, leading to significant improvement in motor function, bone mineral density, HC-induced organ pathology, and mitochondrial function. Conclusion: Our findings show that TSG could be a potential drug candidate for the treatment of aging- and high-calorie intake-associated disorders.

AIM To analyze the diagnostic value of a circular RNA (circRNA), circ-LDLRAD3, in pancreatic cancer. METHODS Expression levels of circ-LDLRAD3 were tested in both cells and clinical samples; the latter included 30 paired pancreatic cancer tissues and adjacent non-tumorous tissues, 31 plasma samples from patients with pancreatic cancer, and 31 plasma samples from healthy volunteers. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was performed to measure expression levels of circ-LDLRAD3 in cells and clinical samples; then, the relationship between clinicopathological factors of patient samples and expression of circ-LDLRAD3 in pancreatic cancer was analyzed. The diagnostic value of circ-LDLRAD3 was verified by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS Circ-LDLRAD3 was up-regulated in pancreatic cancer cell lines (P < 0.01), pancreatic cancer tissues (P < 0.01), and plasma samples from patients with pancreatic cancer (P < 0.01). High expression of circ-LDLRAD3 was significantly associated with venous invasion, lymphatic invasion, and metastasis. The area under the ROC curve of circ-LDLRAD3 alone or combination with CA19-9 was 0.67 and 0.87, respectively, with a sensitivity and specificity of 0.5738 (alone) and 0.7049 (alone), and 0.8033 (combination) and 0.9355 (combination), respectively. CONCLUSION These data suggest that circ-LDLRAD3 may be a biomarker in the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.

Recycling the end-of-life lithium-ion batteries including the lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery has been one of the most important technology areas since electric vehicles are gradually dominating the way of transportation. For the recycling of LiFePO4 batteries, the regeneration of pure iron phosphate dihydrate (FePO4 center dot 2H(2)O) from spent cathode material is essential but difficult. The challenge is how to effectively synthesize battery-grade iron phosphate from the impurity-bearing acid solution by precipitation since the spent cathode powder usually holds various impurities. To avoid the introduction of impurities into the iron phosphate, a one-step spontaneous precipitation and phase transformation mode without acidity adjustment was preferred and studied in this work. The focus of this research included the process of phase transformation from amorphous to crystalline, and its effects on precipitation and the properties of the precipitate. It was interestingly found that there was an induction period for phase transformation from amorphous FePO4 center dot xH(2)O to monoclinic FePO4 center dot 2H(2)O during the precipitation, which was distinctly shortened with the elevated temperature. Phase transformation led to fast increased precipitation efficiency, morphology evolution, and composition change, which benefited the consistency of iron phosphate. Phase transformation could be kinetically described by the JMA equation, with a rate-limiting step of materials diffusion towards the nucleation point and an activation energy of 20.4 kJ/mol. The critical crystal size for transformation was increasing along with the temperature's raising, which was ascribed to the changes in the volume energy and the surface energy. The results in this study have built the feasibility of chemically regenerating FePO4 center dot 2H(2)O precursors from the spent cathode powder by precipitation purification in an acidic medium. 223 Background: Definitive or palliative chemoradiation therapy has been employed in the management of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Immune checkpoint inhibitor has improved outcomes in metastatic stage IV pts. Here we report the addition of KN046, a PD-L1/CTLA-4 bispecific antibody, to concurrent chemoradiation (CRT) therapy to determine the safety and efficacy of this approach (ChiCTR2000031544). Methods: Pts with recurrent or metastatic ESCC, not been treated by CRT or other systemic treatment within 6 months, were recruited and received palliative CRT consisting of cisplatin (75 mg/m2 IV Q3W for 4~6 cycles), paclitaxel (135~175 mg/m2 IV Q3W for 4-6 cycles) and radiation (SBRT or conventional and dose are determined at the investigator’s discretion according to institutional standard). KN046 at ascending doses of 1, 3 and 5 mg/kg Q3W was added within 7-14 days after the completion of radiation therapy (RT) and concurrently with chemotherapy, followed by KN046 Q2W maintenance. Dose limiting toxicities (DLTs) were assessed for the first treatment cycle of KN046. Anti-tumor activity was assessed according to RECIST 1.1 every 6 weeks within the first year, and every 12 weeks thereafter. Results: As of June 30, 2020, 18 subjects were enrolled and received KN046 treatment (1mg/kg, n = 3; 3mg/kg, n = 11; 5mg/kg, n = 4). The median KN046 exposure was 11.5 weeks. No DLT was reported. 3 (16.7%) subjects experienced Grade 3, KN046 related adverse events (1 Grade 3 pneumonitis and 2 Grade 3 colitis recovered after steroid and antibiotic Tx). For 18 evaluable subjects, the disease control rate and objective response rate were 94.4% and 44.4%, respectively. DOR and PFS were not matured yet as of cutoff date. At 3 mg/kg, objective response was observed in 5 out of 9 subjects (55.6%) with measurable disease and disease control rate was 100%; 7/9 (77.8%) subjects experienced further tumor reduction after initiation of KN046 treatment. It is worth to note that, 2 subjects at 3mg/kg achieved complete response after receiving KN046 treatment. Conclusions: The addition of KN046 to CRT was well tolerated and showed promising efficacy signal in recurrent or metastatic ESCC. This pilot study enables further investigation of a new treatment modality of KN046 with CRT in this detrimental disease with poor prognosis. Clinical trial information: 2000031544.

Many studies have been conducted to explore the association between interleukin (IL)-1β C-511T polymorphism and risk of chronic periodontitis (CP) but with different or even contradictory results. A meta-analysis was performed to further explore their association.PubMed, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and EMBASE were searched up to September 30, 2014 for relevant case-control studies. Two authors (D-YL and L-YX) independently selected studies and extracted data from included studies. The meta-analysis was performed using comprehensive meta-analysis software.Nineteen case-control studies involving 2,173 patients with CP and 3,900 healthy controls were included. Using a random-effects meta-analysis model, a non-significant association between IL-1β C-511T polymorphism and CP was identified (T versus C: odds ratio [OR] = 1.03, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.85 to 1.25; TT versus CC: OR = 1.03, 95% CI = 0.72 to 1.46; CT versus CC: OR = 0.96, 95% CI = 0.71 to 1.30; CT + TT versus CC: OR = 1.00, 95% CI = 0.74 to 1.34; TT versus CT + CC: OR = 1.05, 95% CI = 0.81 to 1.38), and sensitivity analysis indicated that the results were robust. Subgroup analyses also revealed a non-significant association. No publication bias was detected.Based on currently available evidence, IL-1β C-511T polymorphism is not associated with the risk of developing CP. Additional research is warranted to further explore and confirm the association of genetic polymorphism and CP.

The incidence of pancreatic cancer is increasing annually in Asia as a whole. Pancreatic cancer ranks sixth in terms of incidence of all malignant tumors. Circular RNA (circRNA) is a type of non-coding RNA which forms a covalently closed continuous loop. CircRNA is extensively expressed in the cytoplasm, and is markedly conservative and stable. MicroRNA (miR)-378a-3p and human (hsa)_circ_0006215 were detected using the reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) in tissue and cells. Western blot analysis detected the SERPINA4 and hsa_circ_0006215 expression in tissue. A Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was used to determine cell stability. Flow cytometry was used to determine the cell apoptotic rate. Transwell assays were used to determine cell migration. hsa_circ_0006215 was identified as a significantly upregulated circRNA. RT-qPCR results verified that, in 30 samples of pancreatic cancer tissue and paracancerous tissue, hsa_circ_0006215 expression was increased in pancreatic cancer tissue, miR-378a-3p expression was decreased in pancreatic cancer tissue, and SERPINA4 expression was increased in pancreatic cancer tissue (P

The Gram-negative strain of Pseudomonas plecoglossicida NyZ12 isolated from soil has the ability to degrade cyclohexylamine (CHAM). The genes encoding CHAM degradation by gram-negative bacteria, however, have not been reported previously. In this study, ORFs predicted to encode CHAM degradation by NyZ12 were identified by bioinformatics analysis. Differential expression of the proposed ORFs was analyzed via RNA-seq and quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (qRT-PCR), using RNA extracted from NyZ12 cultured with or without CHAM addition. One CHAM-inducible ORF, RK21_02867 predicted to encode a cyclohexanone monooxygenase (ChnB) was disrupted, as were five ORFs, RK21_00425, RK21_02631, RK21_04207, RK21_04637 and RK21_05539, that had weak homology to the only known cyclohexylamine oxidase (CHAO encoded by chaA) found in Brevibacterium oxydans IH-35A. We also found that a tandem array of five ORFs (RK21_02866-02870) shared homology with those in an operon responsible for oxidation of cyclohexanone to adipic acid, although the ORFs in strain NyZ12 were arranged in a different order with previously found in cyclohexane, cyclohexanol or cyclohexanone degradation strains. The ORFs in this cluster were all up-regulated when CHAM was supplied as the sole carbon source. When one of these five genes, RK21_02867 encoding cyclohexanone (CHnone) monooxygenase, was knocked out, NyZ12 could not grow on CHAM, but it accumulated equimolar amounts of CHnone. Our results show that strain NyZ12 metabolized CHAM directly to CHnone which was then further metabolized to adipate. Despite clearly identifying genes encoding the steps for metabolism of CHAM metabolites, not every one of the putative chaAs was differentially expressed in the presence of CHAM and deletion of each one individually did not completely eliminate the capacity of NyZ12 to degrade CHAM, though it did reduce its growth in several instances. Our results suggest that there is genetic redundancy encoding the initial step in the oxidation of CHAM to CHnone in NyZ12 and that its CHAOs differ considerably from the ChaA, originally described in Brevibacterium oxydans IH-35A.

Foreground detection is an important part in video surveillance system. The detection results will significantly affect the performance of tracking, abnormal behavior analysis and other following procedures. Many algorithms have been proposed to improve the detection performance. However, these algorithms simply focus on one single frame, ignoring the relationship among the detection results of one target in successive frames. This paper presents a novel foreground enhancement algorithm using Hidden Markov Model (HMM). In a video sequence, one target in successive frames usually has similar shape, size, et al. With this property, the target can be modeled by HMM and enhanced using the result of its prior frame. The observation of HMM is obtained by ViBe. The enhancement result is then estimated by using Maximum A Posteriori (MAP). Experimental results show that compared with the state-of-art algorithm, the proposed method can enhance foreground detection effectively.

The excavated height of the left bank slope of the diversion power system intake in Jinchuan hydropower station is about 160 m. The stability and safety of the slope during construction and its operation/utilization become one of the most important geological engineering problems. At the same time, it is also crucial to select a safe and economic excavation gradient for the construction. We studied the problem of how to select a safe and economic slope ratio by analyzing the geological condition of the high slope, including the lithology, slope structure, structural surface and their combinations, rock weathering and unloading, hydrology, and the natural gradient. The study results showed that the use of an excavation gradient larger than the gradient observed during site investigation and the gradient recommended in standards and field practice manuals is feasible. Then, we used the finite element method and rigid limit equilibrium method to evaluate the stability of the excavation slope under natural, rainstorm and earthquake conditions. The calculated results showed that the excavated slope only has limited failure, but its stability is greatly satisfactory. The research findings can be useful in excavation and slope stabilization projects.

Purpose Oxygen therapy (hyperoxia) is essential for the treatment of some neonatal critical care conditions. The lung is the primary target for the changes induced by hyperoxia. Secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA), IgA and secretory component (SC) reflect the local immunity in the respiratory tract induced by hyperoxia. Methods The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, immunohistochemistry staining, Western blot and Real-time PCR were used to detect the levels of cytokines, IgA and SIgA in bronchoalveolar lavage as well as IgA and SC/pIgR in pulmonary tissue. Results The levels of IgA and SIgA in BAL fluid were gradually increased following neonatal rat development. Compared with air-inhaling group, in the hyperoxia group IgA, SIgA and other cytokines except IL-1 in BAL fluid were significantly elevated on the 3rd, 5th and 7th days, but on the 10th day TNF-α, SIgA and IgA rapidly decreased. In the hyperoxia group, both the protein expression of SC/pIgR and the mRNA expression of SC/pIgR were remarkably increased on the 3rd, 5th and 7th days, but were significantly decreased on the 10th day, respectively. Conclusion: The large amount of SIgA, IgA and SC in the early period of hyperoxia might protect the lungs of the neonatal rats against acute pulmonary injury, however, in the late period of hyperoxia, the abruptly drop of SIgA and its component might lead to pulmonary immunity abnormality. In hyperoxia, the increased expression of cytokines might contribute to the expression of IgA and SC.

Approximately 34–86% of neoplasms of the salivary glands are located in the parotid gland and parotidectomy is the first-line treatment for parotid gland tumors. Frey syndrome and cosmetic deformity are common complications experienced by patients following parotidectomy and the sternocleidomastoid muscle flap (SCMF) is used to prevent them. Numerous studies have been performed to examine the effectiveness of the SCMF for the prevention of cosmetic deformity and Frey syndrome, however, they provide contradictory results and possess small sample sizes with consequently low statistical power. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the SCMF for the prevention of Frey syndrome and cosmetic deformity following parotidectomy, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis based on published randomized controlled trials (RCTs), which were identified using PubMed and CNKI databases, and references of studies up to August 2012 were included. Using these criteria, we yielded 11 RCTs. Following an independent assessment of the methodological quality of these studies and the extraction of data, a systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. There have been many reports about the anti-aging effect of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), but the material basis and mechanism of action have not been clearly elucidated. AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is the receptor of energy metabolism and its life extending effect has been confirmed in different experiments. Over expression or activation with metform in of AAK-2/AMPK has been shown to extend life expectancy in nematodes and Drosophila. The possible downstream pathways of AMPK against aging include TOR/S6k pathway, FOXOs pathway and CRTC pathway. One of the core concepts of traditional Chinese medicine is disease prevention, for which one of manifestations is to improve the body with the same source of medicine and food to achieve longevity. It is possible to activate AMPK to achieve the goal of health preservation and prolonging the life by some of the "medicine-food harmony" treatments. Our survey finds that in "medicine-food harmony" compound TCM, "invigorating the kidney deficiency and promoting blood circulation" class dominates and Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix Rhizoma, Astragali Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma, Poria, Atractylodes Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, and Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma are used in high frequency. Network pharmacology analysis using ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) software revealed that TCM-derived drugs interacting with AMPK target proteins included berberine, emodin, curcumin, resveratrol, alcohol, cordyceps, arctiin, suggesting in a certain extent the feasibility of "medicine -food homology" drugs to extend the lifespan through the AMPK pathway. Our study combines a comprehensive database query and an IPA network pharmacology analysis to identify Chinese medicine monomer and components that may activate AMPK pathway to delay aging and to discuss the potential of these medicine by improving energy metabolism to delay the aging process, based on the concept of traditional Chinese medicine "medicine-food homology".

A new saponin, isonarthogenin 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-d-galactopyranoside (1), together with twelve known compounds, were isolated from the rhizomes of Polygonatum sibiricum. The structures of these compounds were elucidated by analysis of their 1D/2D NMR and MS data. Among them, phenol compounds 4–7 and 9–10 showed significant inhibitions against the formation of advanced glycosylation end products, with IC50 values of 0.091 ± 0.0021, 0.10 ± 0.041, 0.014 ± 0.0027, 0.11 ± 0.011, 0.13 ± 0.045, and 0.055 ± 0.019 μM, respectively. The results will promote exploiting potential medicinal use of these compounds in the prevention of diabetic complications and supporting Polygonatum sibiricum as a functional food for healthy and medicinal diet.

The diversion power system intake excavation of Jinchuan Hydropower Station forms a slope of about 160m height; its stability is one of the main geological problems of the project. By detailed site investigation, the engineering geological characteristics of intake slope (including the lithology, slope structure, the structural surface and its combinations, rock weathering and unloading, hydrology etc) is analyzed in this paper. On the basis of site slope ratio statistics, the problem of how to select a safe and economic excavation slope ratio has been studied. The finite element method and rigid limit equilibrium method were used to calculate and analyze slope stability under various working conditions. The results of analysis evaluation provide a scientific basis for the design and construction.

Based on the research of formation lithology, geological structure, deformation failure mechanism ,rock-mass quality and mechanics parameters of the diversion tunnel inlet slope at the right bank of Jinchuan Hydropower Station, a numerical three-dimensional geological model of slope and structural surface was established by applying 3D modeling program, and combined with the slope excavation design, cuttings of transverse and axial direction are conducted, thus, the structural surface location and the rock-block combination are obtained in the excavation face and excavation process. And then, the stability of deterministic block body is calculated by using commercial rock-slope stability-calculation program. By using the probability analysis method in analysis of dominant structure plane combination, possible random combination block of the rock can be get, and then, the block stability calculation is carried out. The results show that deterministic blocks and random combination blocks have good stability under all kinds of working conditions.

Conventional rock mechanics parameters are not derived directly from loading rock specimens in laboratory or in situ. Instead, they are determined by many different rock classification codes and criteria in different countries, and some of them such as RMR and Q systems are widely used in many countries. None of these codes and classification systems has considered the important factor of unloading of real excavated rock masses for engineering purposes until Professor Ha Qiulin proposed his new concept of unloading rock mechanics some two decades ago. Since rock masses are not a true CHILE continuum, the loading and unloading behaviors differ greatly from each other. Ha and his co-workers such as Li Jianlin have demonstrated that strength and deformational characteristics, initial rock stresses, scale effects, creep, deformation and fracture patterns are quite different and stress path dependence is particularly emphasized. All these findings have practical significance and a brief introduction and some discussions will be presented in this paper.

We report the nanostructures and gas-sensing properties of Zinc oxide nanosheets prepared by hydrothermal method. In particular, needlelike Zinc oxide was also prepared for comparison. The morphology and structural properties were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Subsequent gas-sensing measurement between Zinc oxide nanosheets and Zinc oxide nanoaciculars indicated that the nanosheets exhibited higher gas response to ethanol. The enhanced gas sensing properties of Zinc oxide nanosheets suggests that governing the shape and the surface structure of nano Zinc oxide is a significant approach for developing high performance gas sensors. Two new myricetin glycosides, myricetin-3-O-(6″-O-E-p-coumaroyl)-α-D-glucocopyranoside (1) and 3′,5′-di-O-methylmyricetin-3-O-(6″-O-acetyl)-α-D-glucopyranoside (2), and three known flavonoids, myricetin (3), cedrin (4), and 2R,3R-dihydromyricetin (5), were isolated from the pine needles of Cedrus deodara. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis and chemical evidence.

Objective To evaluate the clinical features, renal histopathology and therapeutic response to glucocorticoid and immunosuppressive agents in patients with glomerular disease associated with Takayasu arteritis (TA). Methods Patients with TA and renal biopsy-confirmed glomerular disease were investigated retrospectively. None of them had renal artery stenosis or occlusive changes. Results Six patients with glomerulopathy, accounting for 3.75% of the 160 TA patients admitted to our hospital at the same period, were analyzed. All of them were females with a mean age of 35.5 ± 10.0 years. Four cases presented with lower extremity edema. Laboratory tests showed that one was nephrotic syndrome, three were nephrotic range proteinuria, and two of them had mild renal dysfunction. The other two patients were asymptomatic microscopic hematuria and proteinuria. Renal pathology revealed mild immunoglobulin A nephropathy in two cases, mild mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis (GN), membranoproliferative GN, minimal change disease, and fibrillary GN in one case respectively. Five cases received glucocorticoids and cyclophosphamide therapy. Proteinuria and microscopic hematuria disappeared in 2 to 4 weeks after the initiation of therapy in three cases. The patient with membranoproliferative GN also reached complete remission of proteinuria and recovered renal function 6 months after the treatment. Conclusions TA may induce glomerular disease as a part of its histological spectrum. Apart from ischemic glomerular disease, glomerular disease should be suspected when TA patients have microscopic hematuria or proteinuria, that may be therapeutically responsive to glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive agent in relative early phase.

Distribution of macroalgal community was investigated monthly in the intertidal zone of Yangma Island, Yantai, Shandong Province, China during April 2010 to March 2011. Macroalgae sampling was conducted at two sites (A and B) along Yangma Island coastline. The relationships between macroalgae species composition and biomass and environment variables were studied. In total, 35 macroalgae species were identified, including 24 Rhodophyta (68.6% of the total number), 6 Chlorophyta (17.1% of the total number) and 5 Phaeophyta (14.3% of the total number). Brown algae and green algae dominated in summer, and red algae and brown algae dominated in other seasons. Sargassum thunbergii was the dominant species all the year. The biomass of macroalgae was higher in summer and lower in winter. The highest biomass of macroalgae was observed in June. The lowest biomass of macroalgae was observed in January at A sampling site and in November at B sampling site with the characters of macroalgae in the temperate seas. Seawater temperature, nutrients and pH could have significant effects on the variations of macroalgae biomass in the Yangma Island intertidal zone.

The Nanwenquan (South Hot Spring) and Xiao quan (Small Hot Spring) in the Nanwenquan anticline are well-known attraction for their geothermal water, but currently, the two natural hot springs have hot flow naturally. In order to protect the geothermal water resource, the evolution of hydrodynamic field must be researched for the causation of the hydrodynamic field destroyed. The finite element numerical simulation was adopted and quantitative study on the geothermal water hydrodynamic field. The finite element model was set up to simulate the research sites, the simulated water level was compared with the actual water level, the feasibility of this model was proved when the simulated water level is approximate to actual one, and an applicable finite element model was obtained. The finite element model was used to simulate the evolution of the hydrodynamic field. This paper supplies a basis to exploit adequately and protect effectively the geothermal water resource, at the same time it is proved feasible in practice to apply finite element numerical simulation to quantitative study of the geothermal water.

The PP Composites containing Xanthoceras sorbifolia Bunge husks fibers with different surface treatments were prepared. The mechanical properties such as tensile properties and impact properties of the composites were investigated. It is revealed that the composites with fibers treated by alkali and the following treatments of silane coupling agents KH570, titanate coupling agent JN-9A, acetic anhydride, MAPP, or bleach, all performed higher in tensile properties than that with untreated fibers, while lower in impact properties. Meanwhile, all treated fibers performed better thermal stability than untreated fibers. The fibers treated by alkali followed by KH570 treatment were added into PP with different contents. It is found that as the fiber content increases, the elastic modulus and impact strength of the composites increase sharply at first followed by a decrease, while the tensile strength decrease initially and increase with a peak at 10%, then decrease continuously. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The end-Permian mass extinction was followed by the formation of an enigmatic rock layer with a distinctive macroscopic spotted or dendroid fabric. This deposit has been interpreted as microbial reef rock, digitate dendrolite, digital thrombolite, dendritic thrombolite, or bacterial deposits. Agreement has been reached in considering them as microbialites, but not in their formation. This study has revealed that the spotted and dendroid microbialites were composed of numerous fossil casts formed by the planktic cyanobacterium, Microcystis, a coccoid genus that at the present-day commonly forms blooms in modern lakes, rivers, and reservoirs. The abundance of the fossils and the diagenesis they experienced has determined the macroscopic fabric: where they abundant, the rock appears as dendroid, otherwise, it appears as spotted. The ancient Microcystis bloom might produce toxin to kill other metazoans, and be responsible for the oceanic anoxia that has puzzled so many researchers for so many years.

To study the chemical constituents from Patrinia scabra Bunge.Chemical constituents were isolated and purified by silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and chemical evidence.Seven compounds were isolated and purified. Their structures were identified as villosol (I), patriscabrol (II), protocatechuic acid (III), beta-daucosterol (IV), oleic acid (V), beta-sitosterol (VI), erucic acid (VII).Compounds I, III, V, VII are isolated from this plant for the first time.

The increasing amount of waste residue produced during the electrolytic preparation process of manganese has nowadays brought about serious environmental problems. The research on utilization of manganese slag has been a hot spot around the world. The utilization of manganese slag is not only environment friendly, but also economically feasible. In the current work, a summarization of the main methods to produced building materials from manganese slag materials was given. Baking-free brick, a promising building material, was produced from manganese slag with the addition of quicklime and cement. The physical properties, chemical composition, and mechanical performances of the obtained samples were measured by several analyses and characterization methods. Then the influence of adding materials and molding pressure during the preparation of baking-free brick samples on their compressive strength properties was researched. It is concluded that the baking-free brick prepared from manganese residue could have excellent compressive strength performance under certain formula.

To study the chemical constituents of the dichloromethane extracted from pine needles of Cedrus deodara.Compounds were isolated and purified from the dichloromethane extract of pine needles by chromatography on silica gel and Sephadex LH-20. Their structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and physicochemical property.Nine compounds were isolated and purified. Their structures were identified as stigmasterol (1), oleanolic acid (2), parahydroxybenzaldehyde (3), beta-sitosterol (4), syringaresinol (5), daucosterol (6), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (7), gallicin (8) and gallic acid (9).Compounds 1-3, 5 -9 are isolated from pine needles of this genus for the first time.

Molecular dynamic (MD) simulations have been performed to study the behaviors of ten kinds of cyclo-hexa-peptides (CHPs) composed of amino acids with the diverse hydrophilic/hydrophobic side chains at the water/cyclohexane interface. All the CHPs take the "horse-saddle" conformations at the interface and the hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity of the side chains influences the backbones' structural deformations. The orientations and distributions of the CHPs at the interface and the differences of interaction energies (ΔΔE) between the CHPs and the two liquid phases have been determined. RDF analysis shows that the H-bonds were formed between the O(C) atoms of the CHPs' backbones and H(w) atoms of water molecules. N atoms of the CHPs' backbones formed the H-bonds or van der Waals interactions with the water solvent. It was found that there is a parallel relationship between ΔΔE and the lateral diffusion coefficients (D ( xy )) of the CHPs at the interface. The movements of water molecules close to the interface are confined to some extent, indicating that the dynamics of the CHPs and interfacial water molecules are strongly coupled.

BackgroundMany epidemiological studies have found a positive association between periodontal disease (PD) and risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but this association is varied and even contradictory among studies. We performed a meta-analysis to ascertain the relationship between PD and COPD.MethodsPubMed and Embase database were searched up to January 10, 2012, for relevant observational studies on the association between PD and risk of COPD. Data from the studies selected were extracted and analyzed independently by two authors. The meta-analysis was performed using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software.ResultsFourteen observational studies (one nested case-control, eight case-control, and five cross-sectional) involving 3,988 COPD patients were yielded. Based on random-effects meta-analysis, a significant association between PD and COPD was identified (odds ratio = 2.08, 95% confidence interval = 1.48-2.91; PConclusionsBased on current evidence, PD is a significant and independent risk factor of COPD. However, whether a causal relationships exists remains unclear. Morever, we suggest performing randomized controlled trails to explore whether periodontal interventions are beneficial in regulating COPD pathogenesis and progression.

Landsat-TM (Theme Mapper) and EOS (Earth Observing System)-MODIS (MODerate resolution Imaging Spectrora-diometer) Terra/Aqua images were used to monitor the macro-algae (Ulva prolifera) bloom since 2007 at the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea. At the turbid waters of Northern Jiangsu Shoal, there is strong spectral mixing behavior, and satellite images with finer spatical resolution are more effective in detection of macro-algae patches. Macro-algae patches were detected by the Landsat images for the first time at the Sheyang estuary where is dominated by very turbid waters. The MODIS images showed that the macro-algae from the turbid waters near the Northern Jiangsu Shoal drifted southwardly in the early of May and affected the East China Sea waters; with the strengthening east-asian Summer Monsoon, macro-algae patches mainly drifted in a northward path which was mostly observed at the Yellow Sea. Macro-algae patches were also found to drift eastwardly towards the Korea Peninsular, which are supposed to be driven by the sea surface wind.

The spectral features of ground objects are not only the brief contents of mechanism of remote sensing, but also the important basis in remote sensing application. As one of main components of terrestrial ecosystems, urban forest plays a key role in maintaining urban ecosystem balance. In the present paper, the authors adopted FieldSpec 3 portable spectroscope made by American ASD Company, and investigated or examined some spots in the Kangjian park of Shanghai, China. The spectra of euonymus japonicus L. cv, hypericum monogynum, sabina chinensis, ophiopogon japonicus, viburnum awabuki, and buxus sinica were measured. According to the actual conditions, the authors analyzed the data noise characteristic of the spectrum and got rid of the noise with Savitzky Golay method. Meanwhile, differential spectrum technology was used to remove the environmental background influence. Then the authors analyzed their features and variation of these spectral curves from the vegetation canopy and leaf level respectively. The research on spectral reflectance characteristics for urban vegetations is very significant. And the result of this research can be used for the study of physical chemistry performances of urban vegetation, remote sensing retrieval, vegetation classification, vegetation survey and environmental monitoring in urban area.
