ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to investigate the attitudes of healthcare professionals (HPs) working in the prenatal setting toward uncertain results (UR) from prenatal exome sequencing (pES) in China.MethodsWe conducted a national survey among HPs working in the prenatal setting. UR in our study include variants of uncertain significance (VUS), variants with variable penetrance/expressivity (VVPE), and secondary findings unrelated to the indication for testing (SFs). A total of 285 questionnaires that met the inclusion criteria were collected. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 26.ResultsWhen performing the pre-test counseling, only 7.4% of HPs mentioned the possibility of VUS, 6.3% discussed the possibility of VVPE, and 7.4% introduced the SFs with parents with the option to not report these variants. In post-test counseling, 73.0–82.8% HPs discussed with the parents but did not make any recommendations for managing the pregnancy after reporting UR (73.0% for VUS, 82.8% for VVPE, 74.7% for SFs, respectively).ConclusionMost parents did not have the option of opting out of reporting UR from pES in pre-test counseling. UR did not influence the pregnancy recommendation made by most HPs. Establishing national guidelines for reporting UR from pES and developing strategies to improve counseling skills may help HPs manage UR.

Abstract Objective Surgical quality plays a vital role in the treatment of malignant tumors. We investigated the classification of intraoperative adverse events (iAE) (ClassIntra) in relation to the surgical quality control of laparoscopic radical hysterectomies. Methods A prospective cohort of 195 patients who had undergone laparoscopic radical hysterectomies for early stage cervical cancer between July 2019 and July 2021 was enrolled. Participants were classified into either an iAE or non-iAE groups in accordance with their intraoperative status. Surgical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and quality of life were compared between the two groups. Results Overall, 48 (24.6%) patients experienced 71 iAE. In order to enhance the reverse flotation effect of hematite, dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (DTAC) and a mixed anionic/cationic collector of DTAC and tall oil were selected for flotation studies on quartz and hematite. Surface tension tests, FT-IR, XPS analysis, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were also conducted in order to investigate the interaction mechanism of the mixed collector on the quartz surface. The results revealed that, at a natural pH (approximately 7.0) and 298 K, and with a dosage of 20 mg/L for the mixed collector (mDTAC:mtall oil = 3:1) and 4 mg/L for causticized starch, the recovery rates of quartz and hematite were 94.67% and 8.69%, respectively. Compared to the use of a single DTAC, the mixed DTAC/tail oil collector enhanced the flotation effect under constant variables. Additionally, a comparison of temperature and surface tension for monomineral flotation and artificially mixed ore flotation tests showed that the mixed collector was less influenced by temperature, compared to the single DTAC, and exhibited good resistance and more effective separation of quartz and hematite at lower temperatures. The analysis of FT-IR, XPS, and MD simulations revealed that the single DTAC collector primarily adsorbed onto quartz through physical adsorption and hydrogen bonding, while the combination of tall oil and DTAC enhanced the adsorption of the collector on the quartz surface.

Selective surface dissolution was found to be important in spodumene flotation. In this study, we proposed to introduce ultrasound into the pretreatment process to accelerate particle vibration and cavitation, as well as the migration of mineral surface components to solution. Micro-flotation results showed that the flotation recovery of spodumene can be 86.08% by ultrasound pretreatment, but only 39.30% by traditional mechanical agitation pretreatment. Compared with traditional mechanical agitation, ultrasonic pretreatment can shorten the pretreatment process, reduce the dosage of agents, reduce the mechanical agitation speed, and improve the efficiency of the pretreating process. Inductively coupled plasma analysis showed that, in the ultrasonic system, the amount of Li, Al, and Si species in the solution was twice as much as those in the traditional preprocessing system. Moreover, the scanning electron microscope results demonstrated a larger surface dissolution area in the ultrasonic system. X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed that the atomic concentration of Si species on the spodumene surface decreased, whereas the relative atomic concentrations of Li and Al species increased, indicating that the ultrasound effect strengthened the selective dissolution of elements on the mineral surface. The high-resolution spectra of O 1s showed that more collectors are adsorbed on the mineral surface treated by ultrasonic pretreatment.

A bismuth-titanium bimetal oxysulfide BiTiOS catalyst was prepared via hydrolysis and characterized by different testing techniques. This BiTiOS catalyst, forming the Ti-doped Bi2(O,S)3 phase, can format the oxygen vacancy, increase its electrochemically active surface sites, enhance the electron lifetime, and facilitate fast electron transfer. The BiTiOS catalyst exhibits good electrochemical performance and long-term stability due to its excellent catalytic reduction activity for toxic organic of p-nitrophenol, organic dyes of methyl orange, methylene blue, and rhodamine, and the heavy metal ion of Cr(VI) in the presence of NaBH4 in the dark. The BiTiOS catalyst with the best reduction activity was prepared at a molar ratio of n(Bi): n(Ti): n(TAA) at 1: 2: 4. The 100 mL for each 20 ppm MO, MB, RhB, and 4-NP was reduced entirely in 4, 4, 2, and 8 min, respectively. In comparison, the reduction of 100 mL of 50 ppm Cr(VI) took 22 min. The BiTiOS-2 catalyst, showing fast reduction efficiency and excellent stability and durability, is expected to have great potential in wastewater treatment.

AbstractObjective The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of tripterygium glycosides (TGs) on regulating abnormal lipid deposition in nephrotic syndrome (NS) rats.Methods Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were injected with 6 mg/kg doxorubicin to construct nephrotic syndrome models (n = 6 per group), and then administered with TGs (10 mg/kg·d−1), prednisone (6.3 mg/kg·d−1), or pure water for 5 weeks. Biomedical indexes, such as urine protein/creatinine ratio (PCR), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (Scr), serum albumin (SA), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC)were investigated to evaluate the renal injury of rats. H&E staining experiment was used to assess the pathological alterations. Oil Red O staining was used to assess the level of renal lipid deposition. Malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) were measured to assess the extent of oxidative damage to the kidney. TUNEL staining was used to assess the status of apoptosis in the kidney. Western blot analysis was performed to examine the levels of relevant intracellular signaling molecules.Results After treatment with TGs, those tested biomedical indexes were significantly improved, and the extent of kidney tissue pathological changes and lipid deposition in the kidney was diminished. Treatment with TGs decreased renal oxidative damage and apoptosis. Regarding the molecular mechanism, TGs significantly increased the protein expression levels of Bcl-2 but decreased the levels of CD36, ADFP, Bax, and Cleaved caspase-3.Conclusion TGs alleviates renal injury and lipid deposition induced by doxorubicin, suggesting that it may be a new strategy for reducing renal lipotoxicity in NS.

This study investigates the negative impact of temperature on spodumene flotation from the perspective of the gas–liquid interface of sodium oleate (NaOL) solutions. Micro-flotation tests revealed a significant decrease in the flotation recovery of spodumene when NaOL was employed as a collector, dropping from 55.3% at 305.4 K to 5.1% at 277.3 K as the temperature decreased. A strong linear correlation between the surface tension of the NaOL solution and temperature was established. As the temperature decreased, the surface tension of 6 × 10−5 mol/L NaOL increased from 37.88 mN/m at 294.9 K to 40.71 mN/m at 281.9 K, while its critical micelle concentration decreased from 9.49 × 10−4 mol/L at 305.0 K to 6.85 × 10−4 mol/L at 288.0 K. Additionally, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations indicated that a decrease in temperature resulted in an enhancement of intermolecular action forces, a more compacted interfacial structure, and weakened molecular thermal motion at the gas–liquid interface of the NaOL solution. These variations were found to be the main reason for the rise in the surface tension of the NaOL solution as the temperature decreased, which in turn lowered its efficiency, resulting in a decrease in the flotation efficiency of spodumene.

Mineral classification is an important preparation operation in the process of beneficiation. The classification effect directly affects the production capacity of grinding machines, product quality, subsequent separation of the concentrate grade, and recovery. To improve mineral classification accuracy and provide technical ideas for enriching the separation of fine materials, this paper proposes the use of a trapezoidal inclined channel agitated reflux classifier (TARC) to classify ultra-fine ilmenite. The principle of this separating system is based on a hindered settling effect and fluidization theory. This study focuses on the factors influencing the particle separation through the optimization of different experimental conditions. A satisfactory 10 µm classification efficiency of 67.89% could be obtained when the ore pulp concentration was 15%, the agitation speed was 350 r/min, and the underflow flux was 16 cm3/min. The TARC realized a continuous feeding classification of fine particles within a narrow particle size range, with 10 µm as the limit size, and an effective reduction in the entrainment of fine particles in the underflow and coarse particles in the overflow phenomena, thus achieving improved classification efficiency.

The potential of ultrasonic pretreatment enhancing selective surface dissolution to improve the floatability of spodumene with different size fractions was verified and investigated. For coarse particles of −0.15 + 0.0385 mm, compared with traditional pretreatment methods, ultrasonic pretreatment could optimize the physicochemical properties of the surface, markedly increased the amount of NaOL adsorbed on the mineral surface, and improved the floatability of the spodumene. For fine particles of −0.0385 mm, both pretreatment methods (Ultrasonic and Traditional) could greatly increase the flotation recovery, but ultrasonic pretreatment had no obvious advantage compared with traditional method. ICP combined with XPS analysis were conducted to investigate the dissolution mechanism of spodumene surface in different pretreatment system. Si species on the surface of coarse particles were easily dissolved into the solution under the effect of ultrasound, which increases the relative content of Al and Li species on the surface. This was conducive to the adsorption of the collectors on the surface. However, the selective dissolution of the fine particle surface was weakened by excessive energy intake in the ultrasonic system, which neutralized the advantage brought by the large amount of dissolution, making the results obtained by the two preprocessing methods the same.

To enhance dry magnetic separation of fine-grained materials, our research team developed the pneumatic drum magnetic separator (PDMS), an airflow-aided magnetic separator. Different positions at the separation surface of PDMS have varied separation angles, so particles at different positions may be subjected to varying composite forces, resulting in a mismatch between airflow velocity and magnetic field intensity. However, because the separation process of PDMS is continuous and the separation of particles at a certain position is instantaneous, the separation performance of PDMS at a specific separation angle cannot be investigated. To evaluate optimal operating features at different separation angles, a laboratory dry pneumatic flat magnetic separator (DPFMS) was manufactured, which also makes the airflow pass through the separation plane in the opposite direction to the magnetic force. The separation performance of PDMS was revealed by separation tests for −0.15 + 0.074 mm artificial mixed ore with 0–0.6 m/s airflow on DPFMS at various separation angles. At separation angles of 70° and 90°, the separation efficiency increases with an increase in airflow velocity from 16.68% and 33.09% to 77.72% and 76.54%, respectively; at separation angles of 110°, the separation efficiency increases initially from 89.53% to 90.69%, then decreases to 88.22% and keeps decreasing. The synergistic relationship between airflow drag, magnetic force and gravity were investigated by analyzing the composite force and the motion trajectory of a single particle. The results show that the proper airflow velocity aids in enhancing the distinctions between magnetite and quartz particles in resultant force and movement. However, throughout a wide range of air velocity, while the airflow can improve magnetite and quartz separation efficiency of at small separation angles, it may diminish the separation efficiency at large separation angles.

Dry permanent magnetic separators have been widely used in the mineral and coal processing industries due to their simple operation and high separation efficiency. These tools not only discard some amount of bulk gangue from the raw ore, thereby reducing the volume of the grinding operation and cutting energy consumption, but also do not require water in the sorting process, thereby expanding their applicability to arid and cold areas. With the depletion of global iron ore resources, a dry, low-cost processing or pre-sorting prior to the wet separation has received the attention of industrial practitioners as a potential alternative. The performance of dry magnetic separators plays a critical role in dry processing This paper reviews the dry magnetic separators available in the literature and describes their operating principles, separation performance, and applications. A detailed comparison of different separators is also conducted to evaluate the differences in their sorting performance and mechanisms and to provide a reference for the optimization of dry magnetic separators.

To achieve the utilization of fine ilmenite (especially −0.075 mm) produced in the titanium-magnetite processing plant in Panzhihua, a radial turbulent outer-cylinder magnetic separator (RTOCMS), was developed in this study. After optimizing the conditions of rotation speed and water flow, an RTOCMS concentrate with TiO2 grade of 22.84% and TiO2 recovery of 66.93% was obtained through one-stage roughing pre-concentration flowsheet. Magnetic force and competing forces were calculated and analyzed to illustrate the pre-concentration mechanism, and the results revealed that the combination of high water flow and high rotation speed resulted in the most effective for pre-concentration of the fine ilmenite in the RTOCMS process. In addition, particle size analysis of the concentrate product indicated that the RTOCMS was effective for the recovery of medium particle sizes (−0.075 + 0.038 mm), with a continued enhancement for the recovery of fine-grained products (−0.038 mm). Hence, the RTOCMS provides an effective way to pre-concentrate fine ilmenite ore.

In this paper, the potential of sulfonated naphthalene formaldehyde (SNF) condensate as a depressant in the flotation separation of scheelite from calcite was verified and investigated. The results of microflotation experiments showed that SNF had a stronger depressant performance on calcite than a conventional depressant—water glass and had an excellent performance in fine-grained particles (−0.037 mm) treatment. Adsorption tests were conducted to quantitatively study the selective adsorption of SNF on the surface of scheelite and calcite. At 200 mg/L SNF, the adsorption density of SNF on the calcite surface reached 5.48 mg/g, which was more than four times than that of scheelite. In addition, compared with scheelite, the adsorption of SNF on the calcite surface had a more significant negative effect on the contact angle. Moreover, infrared (IR) measurements combined with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis were performed to investigate the adsorption mechanisms of SNF on scheelite and calcite surfaces. The results showed that the adsorption of SNF on scheelite was more likely to be physical attraction, while the –SO3− group in SNF could chemically react with Ca species on the surface of calcite, resulting in a stronger adsorption than on scheelite.

The superplasticizer sulfonated acetone formaldehyde condensate (SAF) was first used as a depressant in the selective flotation of scheelite and calcite in this paper. First, single mineral flotation tests were performed to compare the depressing performance of SAF and the traditional depressant water glass. Results showed that both −0.074 + 0.037 mm and −0.037 mm particles could be well treated by SAF with more satisfactory results than that of water glass. Contact angle test results showed that SAF could amplify the wettability difference between scheelite and calcite surfaces. Then, the effect of SAF on the surface electrical properties of scheelite and calcite was studied by zeta-potential tests. SAF could negatively charge the calcite surface before adding the collector and hinder the subsequent adsorption of the collector while having little effect on the scheelite. Moreover, microscopic analysis of slurry suspensions showed that SAF could prevent calcite particles from forming hydrophobic agglomerates to achieve the dispersion of gangue minerals. Finally, the selective adsorption effect of the SAF on the calcite and scheelite surfaces was studied by surface analysis using FTIR (Fourier transform infrared) and XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy). Results showed that Ca2+ on the calcite surface was the main adsorption site for the chemisorption of sulfonic acid groups in SAF.

Traditional dry magnetic separation has poor separation efficiency for fine-grained materials, and combining airflow and a magnetic field may be one of the most effective means to improve it. Based on the pneumatic drum magnetic separator developed by our team, an improved pneumatic magnetic separator with a segmented flow field is proposed, which pushes materials to move along the separation surface. Analysis of flow field in the separation zone and the forces on particles show that the improved pneumatic magnetic separator makes it easier to collect fine magnetic particles, while nonmagnetic particles are more easily removed by airflow. Separation test results also show that the iron grade and the recovery of concentrate improved from 37.89% and 74.75% to 51.76% and 91.79%, respectively. The separation efficiency of the pneumatic drum magnetic separator has been remarkably improved by optimizing airflow field in the separation zone.

Aerodynamic Drum Magnetic Separator (ADMS) uses an adjustable air flow to enhance the separation of magnetic particles from gangue. In order to explore the matching relationship between the magnetic field, the flow field, and the gravity field, as well as the capture and separation behavior of particles under the action of multi-physics, a related simulation model is established using the finite element software COMSOL Multiphysics and the accuracy of the simulation results is verified by measurement, formula calculation, and magnetic separation experiment. The trajectories and capture probabilities of particles in different magnetic fields and flow fields are calculated, as well as the critical airflow velocity corresponding to a specific capture probability. In addition, the magnetic field characteristics and particle capture effect of N-S alternate arrangement and N-N homopolar arrangement are compared by optimizing the permutation of magnetic poles. This model may provide a reference for the accurate control of magnetic separation enhanced by a coupling force field.

Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cell migration, which plays an important role in tumor growth and progression, is critical for the development of novel tumor therapeutics. Overexpression of transmembrane protein 30A (TMEM30A) has been shown to initiate tumor cell migration, however, the molecular mechanisms through which this takes place have not yet been reported. Thus, we propose the integration of computational and experimental approaches by first predicting potential signaling networks regulated by TMEM30A using a) computational biology methods, b) our previous mass spectrometry results of the TMEM30A complex in mouse tissue, and c) a number of migration-related genes manually collected from the literature, and subsequently performing molecular biology experiments including the in vitro scratch assay and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) to validate the reliability of the predicted network. The results verify that the genes identified in the computational signaling network are indeed regulated by TMEM30A during cell migration, indicating the effectiveness of our proposed method and shedding light on the regulatory mechanisms underlying tumor migration, which facilitates the understanding of the molecular basis of tumor invasion.

Herein, an Ag/S co-doped Bi2O3-based sulfur oxide catalyst was prepared via a facile green method. The Ag/S-Bi2O3 catalyst with suitable Ag/S doping demonstrated super visible light photocatalytic hydrogen evolution (PHE) at 7.52 mmol g-1 h-1, with an apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of 8.67% at 420 nm. Ag/S co-doping can adjust the energy band structure of an oxidation type Bi2O3 catalyst, converting it into a visible light hydrogen production catalyst suitable for hydrogen production. Sulfur doping adjusts the content of oxygen vacancies to enhance the surface active sites, and the introduction of noble metal silver endows the catalyst with more excellent electrical conductivity and electron trapping ability. Thus, Bi2O3 with Ag/S co-doping produced a suitable energy band structure, enhanced the content of oxygen vacancies and the number of surface active sites, and endowed the catalyst with excellent electrical conductivity and electron trapping ability, significantly producing catalysts with excellent visible light PHE activity. Furthermore, Ag/S-Bi2O3-3 exhibited super visible light PHE activity and excellent stability and persistence and is expected to play a potential role in the field of PHE reactions (PHERs).
