Meningiomas are common primary tumors of the central nervous system of dogs and arise from the arachnoid meningothelial cells. Occasionally, occurs in the retrobulbar space. An orbital meningioma is described in an adult dog, female, mixed breed, presenting right retrobulbar swelling a year ago. The neoplastic mass surrounded the optic nerve and the eye, proceeding, then, to enucleation. Grossly, consisted of a solid soft mass, tan and lobulated. Histologically, the tumor displays epithelioid cells forming cords, with abundant, round to polygonal cytoplasm, rounded and eccentric nuclei, and areas of cartilaginous metaplasia, representing a typical microscopic finding of this neoplasm. Seven months after enucleation, the animal was clinically healthy without local recurrence of the tumor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
