This report sets out the results of a programme of archaeological monitoring and recording (watching brief) in conjunction with works to construct 7 residential dwellings (flats) with associated parking, landscaping and alterations to pedestrian and vehicular access on land belonging to 23 Montpelier, Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset (the Project Site).

'The building itself has been renovated on several occasions. It is not listed and is not a building of great architectural merit. It has some historical significance as the location of the Leeds Building Society, an important element in Leeds's civic history, but there is no rationale to preserve the interior.' 'There would be no below ground excavation work that would affect stratified archaeological deposits.'

'Archaeology relating to the 19th century school buildings is likely to be preserved beneath the hard standing to the north of the site, within the Proposed Development Area. This archaeology is only likely to be of local heritage value and should not preclude the redevelopment of the site.'

The Project Site comprises Hinton Methodist Chapel, built in 1902 and grounds. It is located within the southern region of the picturesque hamlet of Hinton, to the southwest of Woodford Halse in Northamptonshire, c. 10 km south of Daventry and c. 15 km west of Towcester.

A site visit was carried out on the 5th October 2021 in order to inspect the areas of proposed development. A map regression exercise was undertaken and online planning documents were consulted. This was not collected in OASIS IV when this record was originally created 'The proposed work will result a small loss of historic fabric in the region of the Kitchen wall and small alteration to the Ground Floor layout, by virtue of the sealed doorway. However, since this will be retained the impact will be lessened.' 'The overall proposal will result in less than substantial harm to the property and is not considered to have a substantial impact on the significance of the heritage asset.'

The programme of investigation monitored all significant groundwork associated with the permitted works. All mechanical excavation was undertaken using a toothless ditching bucket and was constantly monitored by the watching archaeologist. All spoil was visually examined for the purpose of finds retrieval. Nothing of significance was found.

Findings on the structure and formation of luminescent protein-stabilized gold clusters reveal interlocked gold-thiolate rings and a unique bio-assembled pathway., Highly luminescent gold clusters simultaneously synthesized and stabilized by protein molecules represent a remarkable category of nanoscale materials with promising applications in bionanotechnology as sensors. Nevertheless, the atomic structure and luminescence mechanism of these gold clusters are still unknown after several years of developments. Herein, we report findings on the structure, luminescence and biomolecular self-assembly of gold clusters stabilized by the large globular protein, bovine serum albumin. We highlight the surprising identification of interlocked gold-thiolate rings as the main gold structural unit. Importantly, such gold clusters are in a rigidified state within the protein scaffold, offering an explanation for their highly luminescent character. Combined free-standing cluster synthesis (without protecting protein scaffold) with rigidifying and un-rigidifying experiments, were designed to further verify the luminescence mechanism and gold atomic structure within the protein. Finally, the biomolecular self-assembly process of the protein-stabilized gold clusters was elucidated by time-dependent X-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements and density functional theory calculations.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is caused by pathogenic variants in the DMD gene leading to the lack of dystrophin. Variability in the disease course suggests that other factors influence disease progression. With this study we aimed to identify genetic factors that may account for some of the variability in the clinical presentation. We compared whole-exome sequencing (WES) data in 27 DMD patients with extreme phenotypes to identify candidate variants that could affect disease progression. Validation of the candidate SNPs was performed in two independent cohorts including 301 (BIO-NMD cohort) and 109 (CINRG cohort of European ancestry) DMD patients, respectively. Variants in the Tctex1 domain containing 1 (TCTEX1D1) gene on chromosome 1 were associated with age of ambulation loss. The minor alleles of two independent variants, known to affect TCTEX1D1 coding sequence and induce skipping of its exon 4, were associated with earlier loss of ambulation. Our data show that disease progression of DMD is affected by a new locus on chromosome 1 and demonstrate the possibility to identify genetic modifiers in rare diseases by studying WES data in patients with extreme phenotypes followed by multiple layers of validation.
