Abstract

We propose a magnetic laser in a subwavelength system consisting of a high-refractive-index dielectric cavity and an active medium formed by magnetic quantum emitters. Stimulated emissions of magnetic quantum emitters induced by their coherent interactions with quantized magnetic fields of a cavity are theoretically considered. The condition to archive such a magnetic laser is obtained. Numerical results show that magnetic lasers are feasible in some realistic systems, for example, a silicon disk of high-quality whispering gallery modes with embedded emitters. Furthermore, the competitions between the electric interaction and magnetic one in terms of their Purcell factors are also considered in some magnetic laser achievable systems. In a wavelength-scale silicon block of a high-order magnetic mode, the ratio of magnetic Purcell factor to the electric one can reach more than ~10^3 large. 4. Strong Superradiance of Coherently Coupled Magnetic Dipole Emitters Mediated by Whispering Gallery Modes of a Subwavelength All-Dielectric Cavity

Abstract

The interaction of magnetic dipole (MD) emitters and common photonic cavities is usually weak, which is partially due to the low magnetic near field enhancements of the cavities. Here, we show that whispering gallery modes (WGMs) of a subwavelength dielectric cavity can not only greatly boost the emission rate of a MD emitter but also bring efficient couplings between coherent MD emitters. In a WGM cavity, the maximal emission rate ({\gamma}max) of a single emitter occurs at an antinode of the field pattern. The emission of the MD emitter can also be greatly affected by another coherent one depending on the magnetic field response of the WGM. The maximal contribution can also reach {\gamma}max. Notably, the cooperative emission rate of the coherent MD emitters does not decay with distance in the considered range due to the high-quality feature of a WGM. In contrast to the emission, the absorption of an emitter is hardly affected by the coherent couplings between emitters mediated by a WGM. The difference between the performances of emission and absorption is highly related to the excitation behaviors of WGMs. Our results are important for enhanced magnetic light-matter interactions., Comment: 26 pages, 6 figures

8. Optimization of extraction technology of tea saponin from oil-tea camellia meal by response surface methodology.

Abstract

The experiment used oil-tea camellia meal as the raw material and extracted saponins using the inner ebullition method. To improve the extraction rate of tea saponin from oil-tea camellia meal, through the single factor test combined with the Plackett-Burman (PB) test, three key factors that significantly affected the extraction rate of tea saponin were obtained: The concentration and dosage of desorption agent, the time of extraction. Then, according to the Box-Behnken (BBD) central combination design principle, the effects of three main factors on the extraction rate of tea saponin were analyzed and evaluated. This study indicated that the theoretical extraction rate of tea saponin could reach 15.19%, when the concentration of ethanol was 85%, the amount of desorption was 25 mL, the desorption time was 30 min, the solid-liquid ratio was 10 mL/g, the extraction time was 15 min, and the extraction temperature at 90 °C. The actual extraction yield of tea saponin was 15.11%, the relative error between the extraction yield and the theoretical value predicted by the model was -0.53%. The study indicates that the extraction process established in this experiment is feasible and can provide theoretical reference for the comprehensive development and utilization of oil-tea camellia meal. Abstract

Translating high-performance organic solar cell (OSC) materials from spin-coating to scalable processing is imperative for advancing organic photovoltaics. For bridging the gap between laboratory research and industrialization, it is essential to understand the structural formation dynamics within the photoactive layer during printing processes. In this study, two typical printing-compatible solvents in the doctor-blading process are employed to explore the intricate mechanisms governing the thin-film formation in the state-of-the-art photovoltaic system PM6:L8-BO. Our findings highlight the synergistic influence of both the donor polymer PM6 and the solvent with a high boiling point on the structural dynamics of L8-BO within the photoactive layer, significantly influencing its morphological properties. The optimized processing strategy effectively suppresses the excessive aggregation of L8-BO during the slow drying process in doctor-blading, enhancing thin-film crystallization with preferential molecular orientation. These improvements facilitate more efficient charge transport, suppress thin-film defects and charge recombination, and finally enhance the upscaling potential. Consequently, the optimized PM6:L8-BO OSCs demonstrate power conversion efficiencies of 18.42% in small-area devices (0.064 cm2) and 16.02% in modules (11.70 cm2), respectively. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the interplay among thin-film formation kinetics, structure dynamics, and device performance in scalable processing.

Abstract

Here, we demonstrate a strategy that two orthogonal modes in a dielectric cavity can efficiently couple with each other through the bridging effect of a plasmonic antenna. In such a dielectric-antenna hybrid system, a plasmonic antenna can coherently interact with both modes of the dielectric cavity, which brings sufficient coherent energy transfers between the two orthogonal modes. Specifically, a broad electromagnetic mode and a narrow whispering gallery mode (WGM) in a subwavelength silicon disk are considered, where they cannot directly interact with each other through near-field couplings. By introducing a plasmonic antenna, coherent energy transfer between the above two modes occurs, which is confirmed by both far-field spectra and near-field distributions. More investigations show that spectral and spatial overlaps between the involved modes can largely affect energy transfer behaviors. Those overlaps are highly dependent on various parameters of the system. The WGM response in the hybrid system can even exceed that of an individual disk. Our proposed strategy can be extended to other similar systems and the modified optical responses can find applications in enhanced light-matter interactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The prognosis of patients who have Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-related nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in which the tumor tissues harbor EBV have a better prognosis than those without EBV-related NPC. Therefore, the eighth edition of the TNM staging system could be modified for EBV-related NPC by incorporating the measurement of plasma EBV DNA.Methods: In total, 979 patients with NPC who received intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) were retrospectively reviewed. Recursive partitioning analysis was conducted based on tumor (T) classification, lymph node (N) classification, and EBV DNA measurement to derive objectively the proposed stage groupings. The validity of the proposed stage groupings was confirmed in a prospective cohort of 550 consecutive patients who also received with IMRT.Results: The pretreatment plasma EBV DNA level was identified as a significant, negative prognostic factor for progression-free survival and overall survival in univariate analysis (all P < .001) and multivariate analysis (all P < .05). Recursive partitioning analysis of the primary cohort to incorporate EBV DNA generated the following proposed stage groupings: stage RI (T1N0), RIIA (T2-T3N0 or T1-T3N1, EBV DNA ≤2000 copies/mL), stage RIIB (T2-T3N0 or T1-T3N1, EBV DNA >2000 copies/mL; T1-T3N2, EBV DNA ≤2000 copies/mL), stage RIII (T1-T3N2, EBV DNA >2000 copies/mL; T4N0-N2), and stage RIVA (any T and N3). In the validation cohort, the 5-year progression-free survival rate was 100%, 87.9%, 76.7%, 68.7%, and 50.4% for proposed stage RI, RIIA, RIIB, RIII, and RIV NPC, respectively (P < .001). Compared with the eighth edition TNM stage groupings, the proposed stage groupings incorporating EBV DNA provided better hazard consistency, hazard discrimination, outcome prediction, and sample size balance.Conclusions: The proposed stage groupings have better prognostic performance than the eighth edition of the TNM staging system. EBV DNA titers should be included in the TNM staging system to assess patients who have EBV-related NPC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
