2. Interpretation of the 2022 World Guidelines for Falls Prevention and Management for Older Adults: a Global Initiative

Abstract

As China enters a deep aging society, falls and fall-related injuries in older adults have gained increased attention, with increasing emergence of relevant studies, and continuous updates in relevant guidelines. In 2022, The World Falls Task Force assembled 96 experts from 39 countries to develop the World Guidelines for Falls Prevention and Management for Older Adults: a Global Initiative. The guidelines were developed using the person-centered methodology and the latest evidence on e-health for the prevention of falls, with full consideration of the needs of fall management of older adults, and their caregivers and other stakeholders' perspectives on preventing falls in older adults, as well as the guideline applicability in various care settings and locations with limited resources, which provide new clinical recommendations on the screening, assessment, and management of risk for falls among community-dwelling older adults. This paper offers an in-depth interpretation of the guidelines and an analysis of the effective practical guidance in the guidelines, providing practical guidance for Chinese physicians, nurses and community health workers to prevent and manage falls in older adults.

Nursing students (n = 47) were randomly assigned to either a control or an experimental group. The control group (n = 21) was instructed using traditional didactic methods that only delivered knowledge of pressure ulcers, while the experimental group (n = 26) received a clinical scenario simulation-based method for cultivating the competence to assess the risk of pressure ulcers. Participants underwent pre- and post-intervention based on the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) comprising objective performance criteria. Data were analyzed using a t-test in the SPSS Statistics software program at a significance level of 0.05.Results: No significant differences were observed regarding age or the mean scores of the OSCE in pre-intervention between the two groups. Following the intervention, the mean score of the experimental group’s performance was higher (29.04 ± 6.00) compared with the control group (12.38 ± 4.15) (P = 0.000). 30. Single-shot incoherent digital holography based on spatial light modulator

Abstract

Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH) is a relatively innovative technology, which can achieve incoherent holograms by using the correlation between the object information and a Fresnel zone plate. In this method, the optical wave front scattered from an object propagates and is incident on a spatial light modulator which a phase mask is mounted on, and then the optical beam is split and phase shifted. The biggest advantage of the FINCH is that it can be matched with any standard optical imaging technology, which can realize microscopic imaging, telescopic imaging, spectroscopic imaging, etc. based on incoherent digital holography, and has important application prospect in remote sensing, astronomy, microscopy, and material analysis. In this paper, based on phase modulation characteristic of spatial light modulator, two types of masks are used. The first mask has an optical axis. And the results show that when the distribution intervals of the three phases on the spatial light modulator (SLM) are larger, the reconstruction image is clearer. On this basis, a new method of mode mounting on the SLM is put forward. The second mask has dual-lens array mode with three phases of 0°, 120°, and 240°, and the three phases respectively correspond to their corresponding optical axis, which means that the mask has three optical axes. Both of the two masks can achieve the single-shot of FINCH. By comparing the two mask forms, we find that the field-of-view of the first mask is larger, which can image the entire resolution board; however, because the sub-phase shift holograms are mixed together and cannot be extracted, the quality of the reconstructed image is worse. The second one can extract three sub-holograms, and the reconstructed image has better quality; but because of smaller imaging field of view, it is suitable for the real-time imaging of micro-organisms and objects. Experiments show that a compound digital hologram including three phase-shifting elements is recorded in charge-coupled device in this way. Three sub-holograms with different phase shift angles are extracted from the compound hologram, and there is no overlapping among the three phase shift holograms. Therefore, the three-phase-shifting technique is usually employed. The sample is reconstructed by numerical reconstruction algorithm. The proposed method may be useful in dynamic process real-time measurement and three-dimensional analysis of the object, and thus providing a new way to promote the development of incoherent digital holography.

Abstract

An approach of fault-tolerant control for sensor fault of reconfigurable manipulator based on sliding mode observer and decentralized adaptive fuzzy is proposed. The dimension of original system is extended by introducing a first order filter such that sensor fault is equated to actuator fault. The sliding mode observer is designed for the new system which coupling interconnection terms of the joints and modeling uncertainties are estimated by fuzzy system. Then sensor fault can be reconstructed by using the state estimations and system output to implement fault-tolerant control. Simulation results of two different configurations of 3-DOF reconfigurable manipulator verify the validity of the proposed approach.

Abstract

The brabybaenid land snail,Cathaica fasciola(Draparnaud, 1801) is widely distributed in China and causes significant damage to economic crops but there have been few ecological studies on this pest species. In the present study, the effects of availability of moisture and its interaction with live weight of dormantC. fasciolawere examined in the laboratory for effects on the length of time that snails required to resume activity. Snail live weight increased with availability of water during transition of dormancy to activity. The amount of water uptake required to break dormancy, proportional to snail live weight, was less for larger snails than for smaller snails. The duration of dormancy breaking was much longer at a water temperature of 5 °C than at 10–30 °C. These results are discussed in relation to prospects for control ofC. fasciolain crops by manipulating dormancy. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

Abstract

The complex refractive indices of the Cr film are obtained by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. The penetration depth the Cr film is calculated based on the complex refractive indices, and then the effective cavity length and the emitted spectrum of the structure Cr/GaAs/Cr are simulated. The resonant frequencies are located at 0.32, 0.65, 0.98, 1.31 and 1.65 THz, respectively. The peak intensity of the cavity photo-conductive resource at 0.32 THz is 25 times higher than that of non-cavity one and the full width at half maximum is greatly narrowed. The relation between the emitting dipoles and the standing wave field in the cavity is also discussed. The results show that the emission intensity is enhanced when the emitting dipoles are located at the nodes of the standing wave field, but greatly suppressed at antinodes.

Abstract

In order to determine the effects of different host plants on the fitness and performance of the Yellow Peach Moth, C onogethes punctiferalis ( Guenée, 1854), experiments were carried out to test the developmental duration and reproduction of C o. punctiferalis by feeding larvae with chestnut C astanea mollissima, maize Z ea mays, plum P runus salicina, apple M alus pumila, pear P yrus sorotina and peach P runus persica. The results showed that there were significant differences in developmental duration and reproduction among C o. punctiferalis groups fed on different host plants. The longest larval duration was observed for groups fed on plum and apple (35.63 and 35.55 days, respectively). In contrast, the shortest was for larvae fed on maize and chestnut (21.61 and 21.77 days, respectively). Larval survival of C o. punctiferalis was lowest on plum (24.1%) and highest on maize (80.0%). Adult females developed from the larvae fed on chestnut and maize laid significantly more eggs (averagely 141.8 and 133.5 eggs per female, respectively) than those fed on the other four host plants. Analysis of life-table parameters indicated that C o. punctiferalis larvae fed on chestnut and maize had better performance than those larvae fed on plum, apple, pear and peach. Abstract

The first question of flight control design for near space vehicle (NSV) is to describe its characteristics of motion and to build a kinematic model. An airframe/engine integrated designed hypersonic NSV is studied in this paper. First, the flight mechanics of NSV is systematically analyzed and then a set of six-degree-of-freedom twelve-state equations are derived to describe the motion of NSV under the condition of varying wind field and thrust vector control. After that, the open-loop control characteristics at different conditions are studied by simulation analysis. It is demonstrated that the characteristics of the developed model, such as serious nonlinearity, fast time-varying, intense coupling and strong uncertainty. 49. [Study on the optical properties of ultra-thin metal films in the THz band].

Abstract

Thin metal films are good candidates of terahertz detectors, reflectors, waveguides and terahertz quantum-cascade lasers (THz-QCLs). The optical parameter is the basis not only for designing the THz components but also for developing novel optoelectronic materials. In the present paper, the complex refractive indices of the ultra-thin metal (Cr, Ni and Ti) films in the THz band were obtained by the THz differential time-domain spectroscopy. The reflection spectra of the GaAs/metals interface were calculated according to the Fresnel formula. The mean reflectance of 25 nm Cr, Ni and Ti are over 80% from 0.3 to 1.5 THz. The results show that ultra-thin metal films can be used for reflectors as well as the electrodes in the THz band.
