11. An Improved Exact Sampling Algorithm for the Standard Normal Distribution

Abstract

In 2016, Karney proposed an exact sampling algorithm for the standard normal distribution. In this paper, we study the computational complexity of this algorithm under the random deviate model. Specifically, Karney's algorithm requires the access to an infinite sequence of independently and uniformly random deviates over the range (0,1). We give an estimate of the expected number of uniform deviates used by this algorithm until outputting a sample value, and present an improved algorithm with lower uniform deviate consumption. The experimental results also shows that our improved algorithm has better performance than Karney's algorithm.

22. Boosting the Thermoelectric Properties of Ge0.94Sb0.06Te via Trojan Doping for High Output Power

Abstract

GeTe stands as a promising lead-free medium-temperature thermoelectric material that has garnered considerable attention in recent years. Suppressing carrier concentration by aliovalent doping in GeTe-based thermoelectrics is the most common optimization strategy due to the intrinsically high Ge vacancy concentration. However, it inevitably results in a significant deterioration of carrier mobility, which limits further improvement of the zTvalue. Thus, an effective Trojan doping strategy via CuScTe2alloying is utilized to optimize carrier concentration without intensifying charge carrier scattering by increasing the solubility of Sc in the GeTe system. Because of the high doping efficiency of the Trojan doping strategy, optimized hole concentration and high mobility are obtained. Furthermore, CuScTe2alloying leads to band convergence in GeTe, increasing the effective mass m* in (Ge0.84Sb0.06Te0.9)(CuScTe2)0.05and thus significantly improving the Seebeck coefficient throughout the measured temperature range. Meanwhile, the achievement of the ultralow lattice thermal conductivity (κL∼ 0.34 W m–1K–1) at 623 K is attributed to dense point defects with mass/strain-field fluctuations. Ultimately, the (Ge0.84Sb0.06Te0.9)(CuScTe2)0.05sample exhibits a desirable thermoelectric performance of zTmax∼ 1.81 at 623 K and zTave∼ 1.01 between 300 and 723 K. This study showcases an effective doping strategy for enhancing the thermoelectric properties of GeTe-based materials by decoupling phonon and carrier scattering.

Abstract

To further explore the candidate materials for latent fingerprints detection, two triphenylamine‐based salicylaldimine compounds containing phenoxazine moiety (TPA‐PXZ) and carbazole unit (TPA‐Cz) were designed and successfully synthesized, respectively. They exhibited intramolecular charge transfer transitions and aggregation‐induced emission properties. Based on quantum chemical calculation results, it was found that compounds TPA‐Cz and TPA‐PXZ had twisted spatial configuration, which were responsible for aggregation‐induced emission. Meanwhile, the morphology of two compounds nano‐aggregates in the THF/water mixtures with 60 % and 80 % water content was tested. To our delight, the developers that prepared by compounds TPA‐Cz and TPA‐PXZ both were used for latent fingerprints detection on the surface of glasses, and they emitted purple fluorescence, as well as the distinct fingerprint imaging could be easily distinguished fingerprint level 1–3 details. Abstract

Lead-free (Bi0.5Na0.5)0.94Ba0.06TiO3 (BNT-6BT) films are deposited on Pt(111)/Ti/SiO2/Si(100) substrates for various thicknesses by pulsed laser deposition. The effects of thickness on the microstructure, Raman spectra, dielectric behavior, and ferroelectric properties are investigated in detail. The BNT-6BT films with a polycrystalline structure, as well as an increase in grain size and crystallinity, a decrease in strain, and the appearance of columnar crystals with increasing film thickness are confirmed by x-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy. Obvious aging behavior with an abnormal double-butterfly shape of dielectric constant–electric field curves is observed in aged BNT-6BT films. Both the dielectric tunability and dielectric constant increase with increasing film thickness, with 950 nm film exhibiting the highest dielectric tunability of 36.7% and dielectric constant and loss of 572 and 0.032 at 1 kHz, respectively. Moreover, an increase in the maximum polarization (Pmax) and remanent polarization (Pr) with the increase in film thickness is also observed. The enhanced dielectric and ferroelectric properties of BNT-6BT films are strongly depended on thickness, which suggest the potential application of BNT-6BT films in film tunable capacitors. Abstract

Multiferroic composite films based on ferroelectric (Bi0.5Na0.5)0.94Ba0.06TiO3 (BNT-6BT) and ferromagnetic La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 (LSMO) were fabricated on Pt(111)/Ti/SiO2/Si(100) substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The effects of LSMO thickness on microstructure, magnetic characteristics, dielectric behavior, and energy storage performances have been investigated in detail. Compared with the pure BNT-6BT film, BNT-6BT/LSMO(t) composite films with polycrystalline structure exhibit larger dielectric constant, slimmer hysteresis loop, and lower remnant polarization. Meanwhile, the magnetization and polarization of composite films weaken with the increase of LSMO thickness due to the influence of crystalline size and the strain gradient field in the films induced by lattice mismatch. Optimized saturation magnetization of 120 emu/cm3 at 300 K for BNT-6BT/LSMO(200 nm) film and energy storage density and efficiency under 400 kV/cm of 4.05 J/cm3 and 69.8% for BNT-6BT/LSMO(400 nm) film are obtained, respectively. In addition, BNT-6BT/LSMO(400 nm) film manifests superior frequency stability (500-10 k Hz) and strong anti-fatigue stabilities (108 cycles).
