Objective: This study explored the relationship between BMI and regional cerebral glucose metabolism and explicitly detected regions with significant differences in cerebral metabolism using positron emission tomography (PET)/magnetic resonance imaging in the resting state.Methods: Corresponding PET images acquired from 220 participants were sorted into four groups according to Asian BMI standards: underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obesity. Pearson correlation coefficient analysis was performed to assess the association between BMI and standard uptake value. The regional cerebral glucose metabolism was measured in the fasted state. The PET images were analyzed using statistical parameter maps. One-way ANOVA was used to explore differences in the standard uptake value as an indicator of regional cerebral glucose metabolism.Results: This study found that lower cerebral glucose metabolism in reward- and motivation-related regions was accompanied by more severe obesity and that regional cerebral glucose metabolism activities were negatively correlated with BMI. In addition, more severe obesity was accompanied by a larger range of areas with significant differences independent of current dietary status.Conclusions: These findings suggest that the reward and motivation circuits may be a factor regulating energy balance and influencing the degree of obesity. Persistent pain frequently precipitates the development of anxiety disorders, yet the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study, we employed a mouse model that simulates trigeminal neuralgia and observed a marked reduction in the activity of GABAergic neurons in the lateral habenula (LHb), a critical region for modulating pain and anxiety. We utilized precise optogenetic and chemogenetic techniques to modulate these neurons, which significantly alleviated behaviors associated with pain and anxiety. Our investigations revealed an inhibitory pathway from the LHb GABAergic neurons to the posterior paraventricular thalamus. Activation of this pathway primarily mitigated pain-related behaviors, with minimal effects on anxiety. Conversely, interactions between GABAergic and glutamatergic neurons within the LHb were essential in alleviating both pain and anxiety following trigeminal nerve damage. Additionally, we identified that β-sitosterol interacts directly with LHb GABAergic neurons via the estrogen receptor α, providing dual therapeutic effects for both pain and anxiety. These findings highlight the critical role of reduced GABAergic neuronal activity in the LHb in the intersection of pain and anxiety, pointing to promising therapeutic possibilities., Competing Interests: Competing interests statement:The authors declare no competing interest.

Based on 9-month monitoring field data, this paper analyzes the variation of chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), total phosphorus (TP), total nitrogen (TN) and transparency (SD) in different sub-lake districts in order to study the treatment effect of eutrophication restoration project in Lichee Lake in Shenzhen. The statistical results show that, the average of TP and TN for whole lake were below 0.1 mg x L(-1) and 1.5 mg x L(-1) respectively, the average of Chl-a of north lake district and east lake district were 16.77 microg x L(-1) and 21.45 microg x L(-1) respectively, lower than that of south lake district (35.83 microg x L(-1) and west lake district (32.69 microg x L(-1)), and the average of SD for whole lake was greater than 0.5 m. During the 9-month operation of the restoration project, the average water quality satisfied the National Standard IV for surface water and the water was improved from hypereutrophic status to eutrophic status in Lake.
