Performed in this work are low-temperature (T = 4.5K) investigations of exciton photoluminescence spectra in layered GaSe crystals both non-doped and doped with Zn and Sn in concentrations < 0.01 wt. %. The crystals were irradiated with y-quanta of the energy within the range 0 to 34 MeV with the doses up to 10^14 y/cm2. It has been shown that irradiation with the above doses results in improvement of quality in non-doped GaSe crystals: there disappears the “thin structure” of the emission line inherent to free excitons related with stacking fault defects of crystalline layers, observed is ordering the sets of bound exciton lines related with deep acceptors. As a consequence, there observed is an essential increase in the parameter S0 – integrated intensity of radiative recombination of free and bound excitons. Analogous changes related with healing of defects in GaSe crystalline lattice are observed after doping with Zn impurity. Irradiation of these crystals with y-quanta causes increasing S0, too. By contrast, doping with Sn impurity results in a sharp drop of S0 that begins to grow after irradiation with y-quanta. Rock salt is one of the considered storage mediums for nuclear high level waste (HLW), and so the behavior of rock salt in the vicinity of HLW is of great practical interest. The main contribution to the irradiation from a radioactive waste comes from gamma-radiation, which requires a comparison of its action with that of the electron irradiation, widely used for simulation of radiation damage in rock salt. To solve this problem, we have used a linear electron accelerator to produce bremsstrahlung gamma-radiation spectrum similar to the real spectrum of HLW. Samples of synthetic crystals of NaCl have been γ- irradiated up to the dose ranging from 1.2 10⁸ Gy to 7.8 10⁸ Gy and subsequently investigated by means of differential scanning calorimetry and atomic force microscopy. Electron and gamma irradiated samples have shown a comparable damage concentration and the structure of the radiolytic products, which justifies the use of electron irradiation for the imitation of radiation damage in the vicinity of HLW. Одна из проблем имитации действия радиоактивных отходов (РАО) на среду захоронения заключается в том, что основной составляющей радиационного фона вокруг РАО является гамма-облучение, что требует сравнения его действия с действием имитационного электронного облучения. Для решения этой проблемы было использовано тормозное гамма-излучение, получаемое на линейном электронном ускорителе, близкое по спектру к гамма-излучению РАО. Образцы NaCl были подвергнуты гамма-облучению до доз в интервале 1.2 10⁸…7.8 10⁸ Грей и затем исследованы методом дифференциальной сканирующей калориметрии и атомно-полевой микроскопии. Исследование показало, что концентрация и структура продуктов радиолиза в образцах, облученных гамма-квантами и электронами, хорошо согласуются. Одна із проблем імітації дії радіоактивних відходів (РАВ) на середовище поховання полягає в тім, що основної складової опромінення навколо РАВ є гамма-опромінення, що вимагає порівняння його дії з дією імітаційного електронного опромінення. Для вирішення цієї проблеми було використано гальмове гамма- випромінювання, одержуване на лінійному електронному прискорювачі, що близьке по спектру до гамма- випромінювання РАВ. Зразки NaCl були піддані гамма-опроміненню до доз в інтервалі 1.2 10⁸ …7.8 10⁸ Грей і потім досліджені методом диференціальної скануючої калориметрії і атомно-польовій мікроскопії. Дослідження показало, що концентрація й структура продуктів радіолізу в зразках, опромінених гамма- квантами і електронами, добре погоджуються.

Granite and tuff specimens have been γ- irradiated to the absorbed doses ranging from 10⁷ to 3.0·10⁸ Gy. Penetration profiles of cerium ¹³⁹Ce (actinide simulator) in granite and tuff specimens (before and after γ-irradiation) were measured by means of nuclear physics methods. The irradiation has led to an increase in the cerium diffusion coefficients by several orders of magnitude. The irradiation to 3.0·10⁸ Gy has caused the mechanical fracture of granite whereas the tuff specimens have retained their integrity while showing the appearance of microcracks. Образцы гранита и туфа были облучены гамма-квантами до доз 10⁷…3.0·10⁸ Гр. С помощью ядерно-физических методов получены профили проникновения церия ¹³⁹Ce (имитатора актинидов) до и после облучения. Облучение привело к значительному увеличению коэффициентов диффузии церия. Облучение до дозы 3.0·10⁸ Гр привело к механическому разрушению образцов гранита. Образцы туфа сохранили свою целостность, но в них выявлены нарушения структуры за счет появления микротрещин. Зразки граніту і туфу було опромінено гамма-квантами до доз 10⁷…3.0·10⁸ Гр. За допомогою ядерно- фізичних методів отримані профілі проникнення церію ¹³⁹Ce (імітатора актинідів) до і після опромінення. Опромінювання зразків природних матеріалів привело до значного збільшення коефіцієнтів дифузії церію. Опромінення до дози 3.0·10⁸ Гр привело до механічного руйнування зразків граніту. Зразки туфу зберегли свою цілісність, але у них виявлені порушення структури за рахунок появи мікротріщин.

A time-dependent model is formulated for the chemical reaction between sodium colloids and gas bubbles, which are brought into contact with each other by the growing voids. It is shown that in this exothermic reaction, heat is released much faster than it is dissipated by conduction to the surrounding salt. This results in a large and sudden temperature and pressure increase in the void, which is analysed in detail. The effect on the mechanical stability of NaCl under irradiation is discussed.
