Radiopaque polyurethanes are extensively used in biomedical fields owing to their favorable balance of properties. This research aims to investigate the influence of particle concentration on various properties, including rheological, radiopacity, structural, thermal, and mechanical attributes, with a thorough analysis. The findings are benchmarked against a commercial product (PL 8500 A) that contains 10% weight barium sulfate. Two more thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) were formulated with two different concentrations of barium sulfate (10 wt.% and 20 wt.%) and compared to the commercially available product. FTIR demonstrated similar absorption bands among all samples, indicating that the fabrication method did not impact the TPU matrix. DSC indicated a predominantly amorphous structure for PL 8500 A compared to the other samples, while the kinetic degradation was more influenced by the higher barium sulfate content. The rheological analysis showed a decrease in the complex viscosity and storage modulus with the radiopacifier and an increase in the radiopacity, as demonstrated by the X-radiography. X-ray microtomography showed a more spherical particle format with a heterogeneous particle structure for PL 8500 A compared to the other polyurethanes. These findings enhance the comprehension of the structure–property relationships inherent in these materials and facilitate the development of customized materials for targeted applications. The objective of this study is to develop an approach for monitoring land use over the semi-arid Tensift–Marrakech plain, a 3000 km2 intensively cropped area in Morocco. In this objective, the linear unmixing method is adapted to process a 6-year archive of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) 16-day composite data at 250 m spatial resolution. The result of the processing is a description of land use in terms of fractions of three predominant classes: orchard, non-cultivated area and annual crop. The typical signatures of land classes – endmembers – are retrieved on a yearly basis using an automated algorithm that detects the most pure pixels in the study area. The algorithm first extracts typical NDVI profiles as potential endmembers, then selects the profiles that have the best ability to reproduce the variability of MODIS NDVI time series over the study area. The endmembers appear stable over the 6 years of study and coherent with the vegetation seasonality of the three targeted land classes. Validation data allow us to quantify the error on land-use fractions to about 0.10 at 1 km resolution. Land-use estimates are consistent in space and time: the orchard class is stable, and differences in water availability (irrigation and rainfall) partly explain a part of the inter-annual variations observed for the annual crop class. In the first part of this work, the shoot growth module and grain yield of the STICS crop model were calibrated and validated by using field data which was collected from irrigated winter wheat fields in the Haouz plain near Marrakech. The calibration was performed on the thermal units between the four phenological stages that control the dynamics of leaf area index and the thermal unit between emergence and the beginning of grain filling. The plant phenology was calibrated for three fields monitored during the 2002/03 season. Evaluation of the grain yields and the temporal evolution of leaf area index were done for six validation fields during 2003/04. The results showed the significant accuracy of the model in simulating these variables, and also indicated that the plants mainly suffered from lack of nitrogen. The results in the second part show the potential of crop modeling to schedule irrigation water, on the assumption that the plants were growing under optimal conditions of fertilization. In this case, the model was used to manage the time of irrigation according to a threshold for water deficit. Various simulations displayed logical trends in the relationship between the grain yield and both the amount and timing of irrigation water. These results were finally compared with those obtained from real irrigation practices. For the particular climate of 2003/04, the comparison showed that 70 mm and 40 mm of water could be saved in case of early and late sowing, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
