Abstract

852-nm emitting Al-free laser diodes and layers constituting the device are irradiated with 1-MeV electrons at fluences ranging from [10.sup.14] up to [10.sup.16] e-/[cm.sup.2]. Layers corresponding to the laser diodes materials were characterised using photoluminescence and time resolved photoluminescence. Laser diodes L-I-V characteristics were measured in pulsed and continuous regime. Index Terms--Electron radiation effects, optoelectronic devices, semiconductor lasers.

Abstract

A new technique for computing the Auger recombination rate in quantum wells is shown. The Auger recombination is represented by an equation which considers a realistic valence band structure, the Fermi-Dirac statistics and the analytic expressions of the transition matrix element for both bound-bound and bound-unbound recombination procedures are derived. The bound-unbound recombination mechanism was determined to be a substantial contributor to the Auger total current density.

Abstract

The functioning of the grating coupled surface-emitting lasers is very sensitive to the oscillating-mode Bragg deviation. This device tunes the grating period to the wavelength corresponding to the maximum gain in the quantum well, which helps in characterization of the grating properties using power fractions. The correct selection of the geometrical parameters of grating region helps in the radiation of power fraction into the air with respect to power fraction radiated into the substrate.

Abstract

The various metabolic abnormalities developed in brown adipose tissues of Zucker fa/fa rats are recovered by the application of chronic beta-agonist drug BRL-35135, before the appearance of obesity. The genetic obesity is acquired by the impaired sympathetic activity. The introduction of BRL in fa/fa rats decreases the lipid content of white and brown adipose tissues.

Abstract

International audience; Self-Collimation (SC) [1] in Photonic Crystals (PhC) represents a new mean for achieving structure-less light confinement in optical devices - no typical confining mechanisms, like bandgaps or index guiding, being actually involved. However, it reveals to be quite constrictive in terms of degrees of freedom left for design. Recently, mesoscopic SC (MSC) in mesoscopic PhC (MPCs) [2] has loosen this design constrictiveness, extending the application range especially thanks to the possibility to combine SC with other desired optical features as slow light, controlled reflectivity [3] and microcavities with planar reflectors [4]. This contribution aims to achieve MSC even in arbitrary directions. Moreover this allows to obtain MSC even below the light line, neatly addressing the main drawback of the MPCs: out of plane losses due to the long mesoscopic period.
