We analyse the Coulomb breakup of 19 C measured at 67A MeV at RIKEN. We use the Coulomb-Corrected Eikonal (CCE) approximation to model the reaction and describe the one-neutron halo nucleus 19 C within Halo Effective Field Theory (Halo EFT). At leading order we obtain a fair reproduction of the measured cross section as a function of energy and angle. The description is insensitive to the choice of optical potential, as long as it accurately represents the size of 18 C. It is also insensitive to the interior of the 19 C wave function. Comparison between theory and experiment thus enables us to infer asymptotic properties of the ground state of 19 C: these data put constraints on the one-neutron separation energy of this nucleus and, for a given binding energy, can be used to extract an asymptotic normalisation coefficient (ANC). These results are confirmed by CCE calculations employing next-to-leading order Halo EFT descriptions of 19 C: at this order the results for the Coulomb breakup cross section are completely insensitive to the choice of the regulator. We present a determination of optical potentials using the double-folding method based on chiral effective field theory nucleon-nucleon interactions at next-to-next-to-leading order combined with dispersion relations to constrain the imaginary part. This approach is benchmarked on O16-O16 collisions, and extended to the C12-C12 and C12-O16 cases. Predictions derived from these potentials are compared to data for elastic scattering at energies up to 1000 MeV, as well as for fusion at low energy. Without adjusting parameters, excellent agreement with experiment is found. We present the first determination of double-folding potentials (DFP) based on chiral effective field theory (EFT) nucleon-nucleon interactions at next-to-next-to-leading order (N2LO). To this end, we construct new two-body soft local chiral EFT interactions. We benchmark this approach in 16O-16O collisions, and extend it to the scattering of 12C-12C. We present results for cross sections computed for elastic scattering at energies up to 1000 MeV, as well as for the astrophysical S factor of the fusion of oxygen isotopes. Thanks to the predictive power of this approach, we can calculate various reaction observables without any adjusting parameters. Our analysis of these various reaction observables has enabled us to study the impact of the nuclear density and the nucleon-nucleon interaction on the corresponding cross sections., SCOPUS: cp.p, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

The determination of nucleus–nucleus potentials is important not only to describe the properties of the colliding system, but also to extract nuclear-structure information and for modelling nuclear reactions for astrophysics. We present the first determination of double-folding potentials based on chiral effective field theory at leading, next-to-leading, and next-to-next-to-leading order. We study how EFT can improve the description of reactions used to study the structure of exotic nuclei. Using Halo EFT helps constraining the potential that simulates the interaction between the projectile constituents. It enables us to include ab initio results within the reaction model and to clearly identify the nuclear properties probed by the reaction. New local chiral EFT nucleon-nucleon interactions can also be used to derive nucleus-nucleus optical potentials from first principles, which can provide reliable inputs in reaction modelling., SCOPUS: cp.p, info:eu-repo/semantics/published
