project was planned to study the effect of feeding powdered seeds of Cannabis sativa on the carcass quality of broiler chicks. A total of 160 day-old broiler chicks of equal weight were randomly divided into four equal groups A, B, C and D. Each group was further divided into four replicates with 10 chicks in each replicate. Dried crushed Cannabis sativa seeds were added to the feed of groups B, C and D at the rate of 5, 10 and 20% of offered feed respectively, while group A served as a control. The studied parameters were body weight, feed intake, feed conversion ratio (FCR), dressing percentage, mortality and economics. After an experimental period of 42 days, the data were analyzed statistically. It was revealed from the results that body weight gain was significantly higher (P<0.05), while feed intake was significantly lower (P<0.05), in group D compared to the control. FCR was significantly better in birds of group D compared to controls. Differences in dressing percentage and mortality were non significant between the treated and control groups. Return per chick (in rupees) was significantly higher in group D compared to groups A and B (P<0.05). It was concluded from these results that seeds of Cannabis sativa have remarkable impact on growth of broiler chicks and can help in alleviating feed expenditure incurred on raising broiler chicks. This study was conducted to assess the performance of broiler chickens based on some hematological and immunological profile, upon inclusion of aqueous extract of Withania somnifera (W. somnifera) in their drinking water. For this purpose, 240 a-day-old broiler chicks were purchased from a local hatchery and divided into four groups i.e. WST-0, WST-I, WST-II and WST-III. Group WST-0 was kept as control, while chicks in group WST-I, WST-II and WST-III were offered in their drinking water with an extract of W. somnifera at 10, 20 and 30g/L for 35 days, starting from day 1 of age. Feed intake and body weight were recorded on regular basis and hematological and immunological profile of the birds was analyzed at the end of experiment. Administration of W. somnifera extract resulted in significantly higher feed intake and body weight of birds in all treated groups. An increase in the values of Hb, PCV and TLC was noted in the treatment groups. A non significant difference was noted in the counts of neutrophils, lymphocytes, eosinophils and monocytes in all treatment groups as compared to control. Antibodies titers against IB and IBD were significantly higher in all treatment groups as compare to the values shown by the chicks in control group. Findings of this study indicated that administration of W. somnifera extract to broiler chicks improve their feed intake, body weight gain, hematological profile and immunological status. This research study was planned to explore the economic and immunological impact of ginger (Z. officinale) in commercial broiler chicks. One hundred and sixty (160) day old broiler chicks purchased form local hatchery were divided into four groups A,B,C and D; having 40 chicks in each group. Each group was further replicated four times with 10 chicks per replicate. Ginger extract @ 30, 40 and 50 ml/liter of drinking water was given to groups A, B and C respectively. Group D was kept as control. Data on body weight gain, feed intake and economics were recorded for each replicate of the respective groups. It was observed out that treatment groups gained significantly (P<0.05) higher body weight than control group. Significant (P<0.05) difference was noticed in mean feed intake in group B and C. Mean anti body titer against IBD was higher for group B and C. Whereas Mean anti body titer against ND was higher for group C. Mean feed cost per chick was not affected by any group. Gross return was significantly (P<0.05) better in all the treatment groups as compared to control group D. Abstract Background Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) accounts for more than 80% of the cases of renal cell carcinoma. In ccRCC deactivation of Von-Hippel-Lindau (VHL) gene contributes to the constitutive expression of hypoxia inducible factors 1 and 2 alpha (HIF-α), transcriptional regulators of several genes involved in tumor angiogenesis, glycolysis and drug resistance. We have demonstrated inhibition of HIF-1α by Se-Methylselenocysteine (MSC) via stabilization of prolyl hydroxylases 2 and 3 (PHDs) and a significant therapeutic synergy when combined with chemotherapy. This study was initiated to investigate the expression of PHDs, HIF-α, and VEGF-A in selected solid cancers, the mechanism of HIF-α inhibition by MSC, and to document antitumor activity of MSC against human ccRCC xenografts. Methods Tissue microarrays of primary human cancer specimens (ccRCC, head & neck and colon) were utilized to determine the incidence of PHD2/3, HIF-α, and VEGF-A by immunohistochemical methods. To investigate the mechanism(s) of HIF-α inhibition by MSC, VHL mutated ccRCC cells RC2 (HIF-1α positive), 786–0 (HIF-2α positive) and VHL wild type head & neck cancer cells FaDu (HIF-1α) were utilized. PHD2 and VHL gene specific siRNA knockdown and inhibitors of PHD2 and proteasome were used to determine their role in the degradation of HIF-1α by MSC. Results We have demonstrated that ccRCC cells express low incidence of PHD2 (32%), undetectable PHD3, high incidence of HIF-α (92%), and low incidence of VEGF-A compared to head & neck and colon cancers. This laboratory was the first to identify MSC as a highly effective inhibitor of constitutively expressed HIF-α in ccRCC tumors. MSC did not inhibit HIF-1α protein synthesis, but facilitated its degradation. The use of gene knockdown and specific inhibitors confirmed that the inhibition of HIF-1α was PHD2 and proteasome dependent and VHL independent. The effects of MSC treatment on HIF-α were associated with significant antitumor activity against ccRCC xenograft. Conclusions Our results show the role of PHD2/3 in stable expression of HIF-α in human ccRCC. Furthermore, HIF-1α degradation by MSC is achieved through PHD2 dependent and VHL independent pathway which is unique for HIF-α regulation. These data provide the basis for combining MSC with currently used agents for ccRCC.

The development of new microbicidal compounds has become a top priority due to the emergence and spread of drug-resistant pathogenic microbes. In this study, blue-emitting and positively charged carbon dots (CDs), called Du-CDs, were fabricated for the first time utilizing the natural product extract of endophyte Diaporthe unshiuensis YSP3 as raw material through a one-step solvothermal method, which possessed varied functional groups including amino, carboxyl, hydroxyl, and sulfite groups. Interestingly, Du-CDs exhibited notably enhanced antimicrobial activities toward both bacteria and fungi as compared to the natural product extract of YSP3, with low minimum inhibitory concentrations. Moreover, Du-CDs significantly inhibited the formation of biofilms. Du-CDs bound with the microbial cell surface via electronic interaction or hydrophobic interaction entered the microbial cells and were distributed fully inside the cells. Du-CDs caused cell membrane damage and/or cell division cycle interruption, resulting in microbial cell death. Moreover, Du-CDs exhibited an improved antimicrobial effect and accelerated wound healing ability with good biocompatibility in the mouse model. Overall, we demonstrate that the formation of CDs from fungal natural products presents a promising and potential means to develop novel antimicrobial agents with great fluorescence, improved microbiocidal effect and wound healing capacity, and good biosafety for combating microbial infections.

Present study is a comparative evaluation of the financial impact on choice of flap, clinical results as well as post resection quality of life assessment of cancer patients reconstructed with anterolateral thigh(ALT) flap and pectoralis major myo-cutaneous(PMMC) flap. Ethical clearance was obtained from institutional ethical committee. In this non-randomised, prospective study design among 49 oral squamous cell carcinoma cases, 39 cases were reconstructed using PMMC flap and 10 using ALT flap from year 2020 to 2022. These 2 flaps were compared in terms of parameters like time utilised for reconstruction, hospital stay, overall survival and Washington University Quality of Life index(UW-QOL) for head and neck cancer. Patients were followed regularly for post-operative complications. The University of Washington Quality of Life score (UW-QOL) questionnaire, version 4, was completed at six months post-operatively. Obtained data was statistically analysed using IBM ® SPSS Ⓡ . Washington University Quality of Life index scores and esthetics are better with Antero-lateral thigh flap, with less overall post-operative complications. On the other hand Pectoralis myocutaneous flap has less surgical time and more salvage potential. Background: Dental implants in fresh extraction sockets of the maxillary esthetic area are technique-sensitive procedures where retaining a buccal root segment can enhance periodontium preservation and esthetics. This study aims to compare marginal bone levels and esthetic outcomes between conventional immediate implant placement and the socket-shield technique in fresh maxillary extraction sockets., Materials and Methods: Twenty-four patients with type 1 extraction sockets were included in this randomized trial and assigned to either conventional immediate implant placement or the socket-shield technique. Implant survival, crestal bone levels, and pink esthetic scores (PES) were evaluated at 8 months (temporary prosthesis), 12 months, and 36 months (final crowns)., Results: All implant-supported restorations were successful within the study's observation period. The socket-shield technique showed significantly lower marginal bone loss (e.g. 1.40 ± 0.29 mm vs. 1.70 ± 0.36 mm at 36 months; P = 0.040) and superior PES (e.g., 10.50 ± 0.90 vs. 9.36 ± 0.98 at 36 months; P = 0.008) compared to the conventional technique. However, the technique's complexity underscores the need for expertise and careful execution to optimize tissue preservation in the maxillary esthetic zone., Conclusion: The socket-shield technique better preserves hard and soft tissues around implant-retained prostheses than conventional implant placement in maxillary esthetic regions. Introduction: It is important to promote resilience in preadolescence; however, there is limited research on children's understandings and experiences of resilience. Quantitative approaches may not capture dynamic and context-specific aspects of resilience. Resilience research has historically focused on white, middle-class Western adults and adolescents, creating an evidence gap regarding diverse experiences of resilience in middle childhood which could inform interventions. East London's Muslim community represents a diverse, growing population. Despite being disproportionately affected by deprivation and racial and cultural discrimination, this population is under-represented in resilience research. Using participatory and arts-based methods, this study aims to explore lived experiences and perceptions of resilience in black and South Asian Muslim children living in East London., Methods and Analysis: We propose a qualitative study, grounded in embodied inquiry, consisting of a participatory workshop with 6-12 children and their parents/carers to explore lived experiences and perceptions of resilience. Participants will be identified and recruited from community settings in East London. Eligible participants will be English-speaking Muslims who identify as being black or South Asian, have a child aged 8-12 years and live in East London. The workshop (approx. 3.5 hours) will take place at an Islamic community centre and will include body mapping with children and a focus group discussion with parents/carers to explore resilience perspectives and meanings. Participants will also complete a demographic survey. Workshop audio recordings will be transcribed verbatim and body maps and other paper-based activities will be photographed. Background Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) exhibits notable heterogeneity in clinical presentations and treatment responses, posing challenges in predicting outcomes and tailoring therapeutic strategies for affected patients. Despite advancements in molecular subtyping and prognostic assessment, uncertainties persist regarding the optimal management of DLBCL, highlighting the need for localized investigations to better understand treatment responses and outcomes within specific patient populations. Objective To assess the frequency of complete remission (CR) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients undergoing first-line rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone (R-CHOP) therapy within a specific adult population. Material and methods This descriptive study was conducted within the Department of Oncology Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, Pakistan from August 8, 2022, to April 8, 2023. The study included newly diagnosed DLBCL patients aged 20-70 years, excluding those who had received prior treatment. There were 55 (57.9%) males and 40 (42.1%) females. Data on demographic characteristics, disease duration, and CR outcomes were collected using a predefined data collection form. Results The majority of patients (80, 84.2%) achieved CR following R-CHOP therapy. In terms of age distribution, 43 (45.3%) patients were aged ≤45 years, while the remaining belonged to the >45 years age group. The duration of the disease was ≤ 3 months in 60 (63.2%) cases, whereas it exceeded three months in 35 (36.8%) cases. With regards to BMI classification, nine (9.5%) patients had a BMI < 18.5 kg/m 2 , 49 (51.6%) fell within the range of 18.5-24.9 kg/m 2 , and the remaining 37 (38.9%) patients had a BMI between 25-30 kg/m 2 . Conclusion Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) remains a heterogeneous disease entity with variable clinical outcomes. While R-CHOP therapy demonstrates promising efficacy in achieving CR, concerns regarding late adverse effects persist. Objective: The objective is to compare and evaluate the hard and soft tissue parameters by using short and standard long implants with sinus lifting in the posterior maxilla., Materials and Methods: Eleven patients with complaints of missing upper back teeth were enrolled in the study for implant-supported rehabilitation and were categorized into two groups: Group long (GL): longer implant (>8 mm) placement, preceded by Sinus Augmentation. Group short (GS): short implant (≤8 mm) placement, without sinus augmentation. The primary outcome measured was cumulative survival rate (CSR) in the compromised partial edentulous posterior maxilla. Secondary outcomes measured were implant stability (IS), marginal bone level alterations (MBL), pocket probing depth (PPD), crown-to-implant ratio, and any complications., Results: The difference in CSR between the groups was not statistically significant ( P = 0.317). High stability was achieved immediately after the placement of the implants, in both groups (GS: 64 ± 4.07, GL: 65.58 ± 9.75); this difference in the mean ISQ (IS quotients) values was not found to be statistically significant at implant placement ( P = 0.7). The mean MBL reported in the study at the end of 12 months of prosthesis function was - 0.762 ± 0.48 mm and - 0.7 ± 0.34 mm for GS and GL, respectively. Background: Periodontal ailments cause a quantum leap in the biomarker profile of the saliva. This profile is, in fact, the epiphany of the scale and extent of the disease. Both gingivitis and periodontitis are chronic inflammatory diseases with a step-grade progression. The study aimed to determine the response of the host in these conditions by analyzing concentrations of salivary mucin and total protein activity, before and after nonsurgical periodontal therapy (NSPT)., Materials and Methods: Sixty adult subjects were clinically examined and divided into three groups ( n = 20) according to the clinical assessment and categorized as Group I (healthy), Group II (gingivitis), and Group III (chronic periodontitis). Whole saliva was collected, and salivary mucin and total protein levels were quantitatively measured at baseline in all the groups and additionally after NSPT in Groups II and III., Results: Levels of mucin and total protein increased in patients with gingivitis and periodontitis. There was a slight decline in mucin levels in periodontitis patients in comparison with the gingivitis group. A positive correlation was found between the respective clinical parameters of both the groups along with their levels of salivary mucin and total protein. Background: South Asian ancestry populations are underrepresented in genomic studies and therapeutics trials. British South Asians suffer from multi-morbidity leading to polypharmacy. Our objective was to elucidate British South Asian ancestry community perspectives on pharmacogenomic implementation and sharing pharmacogenomic clinical data for research., Methods: Four focus groups were conducted (9-12 participants in each). Two groups were mixed gender, while one group was male only and one was female only. Simultaneous interpretation was available to participants in Urdu and Bengali. Focus groups were recorded and abridged transcription and thematic analysis were undertaken., Results: There were 42 participants, 64% female. 26% were born in the UK or Europe. 52% were born in Bangladesh and 17% in Pakistan. 36% reported university level education. Implementation of pharmacogenomics was perceived to be beneficial to individuals but pose a risk of overburdening resource limited systems. Pharmacogenomic research was perceived to be beneficial to the community, with concerns about data privacy and misuse. Data sharing was desirable if the researchers did not have a financial stake, and benefits would be shared. Trust was the key condition for the acceptability of both clinical implementation and research. Trust was linked with medication compliance. Education, outreach, and communication facilitate trust., Conclusions (significance and Impact of the Study): Pharmacogenomics implementation with appropriate education and communication has the potential to enhance trust and contribute to increased medication compliance. Bone grafting for implant dentistry depends on bone quality, quantity, and biological principles for good outcome. Autogenous bone as donor remains the gold standard among all the available materials. However, it carries unpredictable morbidity and need for different surgical sites. In our report, we describe a simplified approach in bone augmentation for restricted maxillary atrophic defect within the same surgical site as a harvesting site. The method can be an alternative for different intraoral surgical harvesting sites. The patient's left maxillary central incisor before treatment had a large bony defect which was reconstructed though single site approach of augmentation. The implant-supported restoration with healthy periodontium around even after 2 years of review looks promising. Purpose: The current study intended to provide a comparison of biomechanical behaviors of two different treatment concepts for full-mouth rehabilitation with dental implants placed according to the "All-on-four" concept and "All-on-six" concept with analysis of the stress patterns of the implant support system using three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA)., Materials and Methods: The edentulous mandible was treated with two different implant designs. "All-on-Four" implant placement concept was used in Model 1 with two central axial implants and two distally tilted implants at 17° and in Model 2, "All-on-Six" concept was applied with six vertically placed implants. Individual vertical and horizontal load of 100 N and oblique load of 141 N at 45° was applied to all implants. To evaluate and compare the results in terms of maximum principal stress, we used FEA., Results: All-on-six showed smaller maximum principal stress values on the cortical bone and implants. Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting females. The outcomes of this study will aid future research and policy suggestions by giving a rapid local burden and clinicopathologic profile of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients., Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out at the Department of Oncology, Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar, Pakistan, from April 21, 2022, to October 21, 2022. The sample size was 120 using a 95% confidence level, 18.7% proportion of TNBC frequency in patients with breast cancer, and 7% absolute precision. All patients who presented with newly diagnosed breast cancer and were between the ages of 30-60 years were included in the study. The study excluded male patients and patients with a history of surgical intervention on the breast during the previous six months., Results: A total of 120 patients were evaluated. Age ranged between 30-60 years with a mean age of 45 years. Thirty-four (28%) patients were in the age range of 30-45 years and 86 (72%) patients were in the age range of 46-60 years. Fifty-six (47%) patients had BMI ≤27 kg/m 2 while 64 (53%) had BMI >27 kg/m 2 . The use of oral contraceptives was noted in 25 (21%) patients. Nucleus pH is closely linked to many diseases such as aging, heart disease, skeletal myopathies, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, etc. Nevertheless, fluorescent sensors that can directly monitor nucleus pH changes have not yet been reported. Here, we first reported a green emissive carbon dots (CDs) for nucleus pH detection in living cells. CDs can selectively target nucleus with high accumulation at nucleolus due to their high affinity towards RNA once entering cells by lipid raft mediated endocytosis. Without washing, CDs at 5 μg/mL was enough to lighten nucleus within 10 min with the fluorescence on ever after 24 h incubation, achieving fast, wash-free, and long-term nucleus/nucleolus imaging. Meanwhile, the luminescent intensity of CDs was reduced gradually when pH changed continuously from 1 to 12, showing a pH-responsive fluorescence property with two linear ranges of pH 2-7 and pH 7-12. With their nucleus-targeting ability and pH-dependent photoluminescent property, CDs was successfully leveraged for nucleus pH detection in A549 cells and for in vivo pH sensing in zebra fish. Bone regeneration of large maxillary and mandibular alveolar ridge defects is clinically challenging. To evaluate difference in local recurrence, regional (neck) recurrence as well as distant metastases between cases operated with en-block excision of primary cancer and neck nodes versus their separate removal, in squamous cell carcinomas of anterior 2/3 of tongue and floor of the mouth. A total 85 patients of cT1-T4a N0-N2b of carcinoma anterior 2/3 of tongue and floor of mouth were evaluated. Amongst these patients 39 cases of in-continuity en-block neck dissection and 46 cases of discontinuous neck dissection were evaluated for post-operative complications as well as oncological outcome for a follow up period of 3 years. Patient population was similar in both groups with tongue cancers being the commonest site and tobacco being the most common addiction. Primary site hematoma was seen more in the in-continuity en-block neck dissection group with a p -value of 0.0276, which was statistically significant. Post-operative oro-cutaneous fistula occurred more in in-continuity enblock neck dissection as compared to discontinuous neck dissection, but the difference was not statistically significant. Local recurrence rate was significantly more in cases of discontinuous neck dissection (19.565) as compared to in-continuity en-block neck dissection (5.12%) with a p -Value 0.0481. A statistically non-significant but higher loco-regional recurrence was observed in cases of discontinuous neck dissection as compared to cases of in-continuity en-block neck dissection (10.56% vs 2.56). In the present study recurrence-free survival RFS 3 year in cases of en-block in-continuity neck dissection (84.06%) cases as compared to discontinuous neck dissection cases (63.04%) with p Value 0.025698. In-continuity en-block in continuity neck dissection has lower loco-regional recurrence and may impact overall distant metastases. Though early postoperative complications are more in in-continuity en-block in continuity neck dissection as compared to discontinuous neck dissection, most are managed conservatively. Complex implant prosthetic reconstruction poses several challenges. The lost anatomy of periodontium due to trauma or long-standing missing teeth, especially in esthetic area, requires several surgical visits for recovery. The augmentation procedures are technique sensitive and unpredictable and need long commitment from the patient. They are time-consuming and expensive, and patients are often unwilling. The alternative for anatomically deficient partial edentulous sites could be prosthetic gingival restoration. They help in re-establishing natural contours, interproximal papilla, and further eliminating complex procedures. The other advantage is perfect horizontal and vertical transition between the prosthesis and adjacent tissues. This article describes two cases of completed gingival prosthetic prosthesis which corrected the missing architectures around lost teeth. History of periodontal disease is a risk factor for the development of peri-implantitis. Implant treatment in susceptible patients should be followed by adequate periodontal treatment and stringent supportive programs. The assessment of the patient needs to be carefully evaluated before the procedure for implants. The risk associated with the sites to be treated requires evaluation with regular visits. The completion of treatment will still require committed follow-up visits with checks for pockets, bone loss, and plaque scores around implant-retained prosthesis as well as complete dentition. In our report, we describe in detail the reconstruction of lost dentition with implants in treated periodontitis subjects. Objectives: The objective of the study was to examine the feasibility of bi-paddled pectoralis major myocutaneous (PMMC) flap reconstruction in patient undergoing full thickness composite resection., Materials and Methods: Inclusion criteria: The subjects chosen were patients with clinically T4A squamous cell carcinoma of buccal mucosa, lower alveolus, and maxilla in with skin involvement. Patients required a full-thickness composite resection of intraoral lesion, bone (mandibular segment and/or maxilla), and overlying involved skin and had modified radical neck dissection. Exclusion criteria: Patients not requiring full thickness composite resection including skin. Patients were observed postoperatively for early and late postoperative complications, starting of oral feeding, post-operative trismus, and dysphagia during subsequent follow-up and cosmetic outcome., Results: Overall, the complication rate was 33.8% out of which only 7.8% required major re-surgery with second flap reconstruction. This is comparable with other large series of PMMC flap. Clavien-Dindo Grade I complications were seen in 9.5%, Grade II in 69.7%, Grade IIIA in 13.4%, and Grade IIIB in 7.45% of patients. Full-thickness partial flap necrosis included necrosis of either the external or the internal skin paddle. There were 15 cases - 6.5% of full thickness external paddle necrosis. These were mostly in patients with bite composite resections and having a larger random fasciocutaneous distal component of the flap without underlying muscle. Furthermore, 40% of these patients were females. In females, the flap necrosis comprised 4 of the 12 patients (33.33%)., Conclusion: Pectoralis major mycocutaneous flap has been a boon to reconstruction of the oral cavity post its inception. In case of locally advanced squamous cell carcinomas of the oral cavity, in many instances, there is a clinically significant cervical lymph nodal spread vessels post mandating a comprehensive lymph node dissection. Complete tooth wear dentition is multifactorial and has challenges with diagnosis and etiology. Their rehabilitation often requires orthognathic surgery, orthodontics, periodontal surgery, and prosthodontic guidelines for occlusion with harmonious facial and dental esthetics. A patient needs a multidisciplinary approach with systematic analysis to formulate evidence-based approach to improve function and esthetics. Contemporary periodontal therapy also encompasses esthetic treatment where needs are frequently associated with changes in tooth size, shape, proportion, and balance that can adversely affect smile appearance. The article provides an evidence-based guideline for reconstruction of a worn dentition. Snow is a crucial component of the hydrological cycle in the Western Himalaya. Water from snowmelt is used in various sectors in downstream regions, thus playing a critical role in securing the livelihoods of millions of people. In this study, we investigated the future evolution of snow cover and snowmelt in the Panjshir catchment of Afghanistan, a sub-basin of the Indus, in the Western Himalaya. We applied a three-step approach to select a few global climate model (GCM) simulations from CMIP5 climate datasets for RCP4.5 and RCP8.5, which showed reasonable performance with ERA5-Land dataset for the chosen historical period (1981-2010). The selected model simulations were then segregated into two groups: those projecting a cold-wet climate and those projecting a warm-dry climate by the end of the 21 st century (2071-2100). These GCMs were downscaled to a higher resolution using empirical statistical downscaling. To simulate the snow processes, we used the distributed cryospheric-hydrological J2000 model. The results indicate that the model captures well the snow cover dynamics for the historical period when compared with the daily MODIS-derived snow cover. The J2000 model was then forced by climate projections from the selected GCMs to quantify future changes in snow cover area, snow storage and snowmelt. While a 10-18% reduction in annual snow cover area is projected in the cold-wet models, a 22-36% reduction is projected in the warm-dry models. Similarly, the snow cover area is projected to decrease in all elevation bands under climate change. At the seasonal scale, across all models and scenarios, the snow cover in the autumn and spring seasons are projected to reduce by as much as 25%, with an increase in winter and spring snowmelt and a decrease in summer snowmelt. The architecture around an oral implant pushes the clinicians for an equalization of biological and physiological requirements. An esthetic implant-supported restoration needs plethora of knowledge and expertise. Surgeon skills can be of use for correct tridimensional position of implant in the extraction socket, shaped abutment contours, and anatomical final crown. An immediate implant placement for a fresh socket requires existing oral parameters judgment and evidence-based treatment plan. Background: Lung cancer is the greatest cause of cancer mortality in the United States, necessitating ongoing improvements in current treatment techniques. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) involves the interaction between a photosensitizer, light, and oxygen. The resulting release of reactive oxygen species causes tumor necrosis. It has been used as an endoscopic technique for the palliation of lung cancer. Porfimer sodium (Photofrin) is the only Food and Drug Administration-approved photosensitizer for PDT but has limited depth of penetration and produces prolonged skin phototoxicity. Multiple newer photosensitizers are in development, including PS785. The effectiveness of PS785 was compared with porfimer sodium in the treatment of human lung cancer xenografts in mice., Methods: Human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) xenografts were established in severe combined immunodeficient mice and grouped into small (3-5 mm) and large tumors (6-10 mm). PS785 or porfimer sodium was administered intravenously, and PDT was executed at 24, 48, or 72 h after injection. The primary endpoint was the delay of tumor regrowth after PDT., Results: Porfimer sodium and PS785 produced statistically similar delays of tumor regrowth after PDT when small tumors were treated at 24 and 48 h. At 72 h, PS785 performed better in small tumors. However, for large tumors, PS785 produced no delay in tumor regrowth at any time point., Conclusions: PS785 and porfimer sodium were able to effectively treat NSCLC to a depth of ≤5 mm. However, porfimer sodium was more effective in treating NSCLC tumors to a depth of 6-10 mm. It is understood that one-piece implant design is a stronger concept as there is no connection between implant and abutment. The absence of a microgap can lead to minimal peri-implant bone loss. Furthermore, there is a reduction of mechanical complications such as screw loosening and abutment fractures. These implants can be immediately placed and can be put through instant function because of their high cortical stabilization. This immediate function protocol has advantages over two-stage surgical placement. Other benefits are fewer surgical appointments, reduced treatment time, and minimal trauma. It is suggested that one-piece implant can be an alternative to conventional implants for edentulous arches where there is a resorbed bone in width and height. Initially, one-piece implants were used as transitional or provisional implants. However, because of biological osseointegration, their removal often became difficult. Several manufacturers obtained approval for its use in defined situations. Implant-supported fixed dental prosthesis is a well-accepted treatment option for edentulism. Loss of teeth due to extensive caries or severe periodontitis presents a challenge to the clinicians. Young age disability with either of these problems can further make full-mouth rehabilitation on implants a complex procedure. The outcome of implant surgery with periapical infections and periodontal inflammation is unpredictable and often delays the placement of dental implants. Here, we describe a case of full-mouth reconstruction with implant-supported prosthesis in a young individual who lost all her teeth due to extensive caries. Herein we report the positron emission tomography (PET) imaging potential of a 124 I-labeled radiopharmaceutical (PET-ONCO). In tumored mice, it shows high uptake in a variety of tumors: brain (GL261, U87), Colon (Colon26), lung (Lewis lung), breast (4 T1), bladder (UMUC3), pancreas (PANC-1) implanted in mice. This agent also shows promise for imaging associated metastatic disease (breast to lung, to bone). Interestingly, the iodinated compound derived from chlorophyll-a, in combination with the corresponding 124 I-analog, can serve as a dual imaging agent (PET/fluorescence, complimentary to each other), with an option of photodynamic therapy (PDT). In contrast to Fluorine-18 (half-life 110 min), the Iodine-124 radionuclide has a physical half-life of roughly 4 days. Thus, unlike 18 F-FDG, PET-ONCO can be transported longer distances. While the time for optimal tumor-uptake was observed at 24 h, improved tumor contrasts of both primary and metastasis were obtained at 48 and 72 h post- injection (i. v.) of PET-ONCO. Surfactant protein A (SP-A) plays an important role in innate immunity. The sex-dependent survival of infected SP-A knockout (KO) mice has been observed. Our goal was to study the impact of ozone (O 3 ) and sex, as well as gonadal hormones, on the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) readouts and survival, respectively, of Klebsiella pneumoniae- infected SP-A KO mice. Male and female SP-A KO mice were exposed to O 3 or filtered air and infected with K. pneumoniae . We studied markers of inflammation and tissue damage at 4, 24, and 48 h, as well as the survival over 14 days, of gonadectomized (Gx) mice implanted with control pellets (CoP) or hormone (5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in female gonadectomized mice (GxF) or 17β-estradiol (E 2 ) in male gonadectomized mice (GxM)). We observed: (1) an increase in neutrophil and macrophage inflammatory protein-2 levels as time progressed post-infection, and O 3 exposure appeared to increase this response; (2) an increase in lactate dehydrogenase, total protein, oxidized protein, and phospholipids in response to O 3 with no consistent sex differences in studied parameters; and (3) a reduction in survival of the GxM and CoP mice, the GxM and E 2 mice, and the GxF and DHT mice but not for the GxF and CoP mice after O 3 . Without SP-A, (a) sex was found to have a minimal impact on BAL cellular composition and tissue damage markers, and (b) the impact of gonadal hormones on survival was found to involve different mechanisms than in the presence of SP-A.

To determine the impact of delivery vehicles in photosensitizing efficacy of HPPH, a hydrophobic photosensitizer was dissolved in various formulations: 1% Tween 80/5% dextrose, Pluronic P-123 and Pluronic F-127 in 0.5%, 1% and 2% phosphate buffer solutions (PBS). HPPH was also conjugated to Pluronic F-127, and the resulting conjugate (PL-20) was formulated in PBS. Among the different delivery vehicles, only Pluronic P-123 displayed significant vehicle cytotoxicity, whereas Pluronic F127 was nontoxic. Compared to PL-20, HPPH formulated in Tween80 and Pluronic F-127 showed higher cell-uptake, but lower long-term retention in Colon26 cell compared to PL-20. The higher retention of PL-20 was similarly observed during in vivo uptake with BALB/c mice baring Ct26 tumors. In contrast to the in vitro uptake experiments, PL-20 showed slightly higher uptake compared to HPPH formulated in Tween or Pluronic-F127. A significant difference in pharmacokinetic profile was also observed between the HPPH-Pluronic formulation and PL-20. Under similar in vivo treatment parameters (drug dose 0.47 µmol kg -1 , light dose: 135 J cm -2 at 24 h post-injection of PS), HPPH formulated either in Tween or Pluronic F-127 formulation showed similar in vivo PDT efficacy (20-30% tumor cure on day 60), whereas PL-20 showed 40% tumor cure (day 60)., (© 2019 American Society for Photobiology.)

Dental implants require adequate bone, three dimensionally, for successful osseointegration. The extraction socket changes in the dimension had been described in several studies. Implant in extraction socket cannot prevent resorption of the surrounding tissues. The bony alterations make oral esthetic implant reconstruction difficult without hard- and soft-tissue augmentation. Placement of bone substitute material and immediate implant were not able to completely establish an esthetic outcome. A novel technique of retaining the buccal aspect of the tooth root during implant placement has shown preservation of esthetics. Hard and soft tissues were preserved in their original form around the replaced tooth. The retained root on the buccal aspect of an oral implant is observed to have formed cementum and to some aspects of osseointegration with the surrounding tissues. It is called socket-shield technique and if completed meticulously can be an alternative for regenerative materials and soft-tissue grafting. In our report, we completed 14 cases of the said technique with 5-year follow-up. The results looked promising as none of the cases required guided bone regeneration procedures. Chronic periodontitis is a progressive disease with loss of several teeth. Implant therapy in these patients can be a successful outcome as long as the tissues are kept healthy from a microbiologic viewpoint. Regular follow-up visits after complex reconstruction is the key for long-term success. In our report, recall visits were kept on short intervals for ten years. Pulmonary surfactant protein A (SP-A) plays an important role in surfactant metabolism and lung innate immunity. In humans there are two proteins, SP-A1 and SP-A2, encoded by SFTPA1 and SFTPA2 , respectively, which are produced by the alveolar type II cells (T2C). We sought to investigate the differential influence of SP-A1 and SP-A2 in T2C miRNome under oxidative stress (OxS). SP-A knock out (KO) and hTG male and female mice expressing SP-A1 or SP-A2 as well as gonadectomized (Gx) mice were exposed to O 3 -induced oxidative stress (OxS) or filtered air (FA). Expression of miRNAs and mRNAs was measured in the T2C of experimental animals. (a) In SP-A1 males after normalizing to KO males, significant changes were observed in the miRNome in terms of sex-OxS effects, with 24 miRNAs being differentially expressed under OxS. (b) The mRNA targets of the dysregulated miRNAs included Ago2, Ddx20, Plcg2, Irs1, Elf2, Jak2, Map2k4, Bcl2, Ccnd1 , and Vhl . We validated the expression levels of these transcripts, and observed that the mRNA levels of all of these targets were unaffected in SP-A1 T2C but six of these were significantly upregulated in the KO (except Bcl2 that was downregulated). (c) Gondadectomy had a major effect on the expression of miRNAs and in three of the mRNA targets ( Irs1, Bcl2 , and Vhl ). Ccnd1 was upregulated in KO regardless of Gx. (d) The targets of the significantly changed miRNAs are involved in several pathways including MAPK signaling pathway, cell cycle, anti-apoptosis, and other. In conclusion, in response to OxS, SP-A1 and male hormones appear to have a major effect in the T2C miRNome.
