Abstract

The research problem lies in the absence of a comprehensive model for evaluating the effectiveness of information security systems, capable of taking into account both technical security aspects and subjective factors, such as user trust. Furthermore, current methods often either focus on isolated aspects or lack sufficient adaptability to the unique needs and risks of companies. The article aims to develop a multi-parametric model for evaluating the effectiveness of information security systems. The study examines existing approaches to evaluating the effectiveness of information security systems, such as methods based on fuzzy logic, system analysis, and goal-achievement methodology. A multi-parametric model is proposed, incorporating four key metrics: threat assessment (summarizes the influence of each threat, providing a comprehensive understanding of organizational risks), defense effectiveness assessment (quantifies how effectively security measures are implemented within the organization), functional resilience assessment (quantifies the system's resilience to incidents and technical failures), and integrated security assessment (combines all three previous metrics into a single index reflecting the overall level of information system protection). The proposed model allows for the consideration of various aspects of information security and their adaptation to the specific characteristics of the organization. The model emphasizes the significance of the trust coefficient in information security systems, reflecting the balance between objective technological characteristics and subjective user perception. Examples are given of the model metrics' dependence on parameters such as incident frequency and downtime, allowing for an assessment of the proposed model's effectiveness. The developed model provides a more detailed and organization-specific approach to evaluating the effectiveness of information security systems.

Abstract

The SPICE/HeRALD collaboration is performing R&D to enable studies of sub-GeV dark matter models using a variety of target materials. Here we report our recent progress on instrumenting a superfluid $^4$He target mass with a transition-edge sensor based calorimeter to detect both atomic signals (scintillation) and $^4$He quasiparticle (phonon and roton) excitations. The sensitivity of HeRALD to the critical "quantum evaporation" signal from $^4$He quasiparticles requires us to block the superfluid film flow to the calorimeter. We have developed a heat-free film-blocking method employing an unoxidized Cs film, which we implemented in a prototype "HeRALD v0.1" detector of ~10 g target mass. This article reports initial studies of the atomic and quasiparticle signal channels. A key result of this work is the measurement of the quantum evaporation channel's gain of 0.15 $\pm$ 0.01, which will enable $^4$He-based dark matter experiments in the near term. With this gain the HeRALD detector reported here has an energy threshold of 145 eV at 5 sigma, which would be sensitive to dark matter masses down to 220 MeV/c$^2$., Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures

Abstract

Photodynamic therapy is a curative treatment of human papillomavirus-associated diseases that provides a selective effect leading to the destruction of pathological cells containing the virus. The retrospective study aimed to determine the role of systemic inflammatory reaction induced by photodynamic stimulation in low- and high-squamous intraepithelial lesion treatment. Methods: 143 patients with confirmed human papillomavirus-associated cervical intraepithelial neoplasia underwent photodynamic therapy with Photolon and activation in the range of 662 nm. All patients underwent colposcopy, histologic study, HPV DNA analysis, CBC, and immunogram. Abstract

The LUX-ZEPLIN experiment is a dark matter detector centered on a dual-phase xenon time projection chamber operating at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota, USA. This Letter reports results from LUX-ZEPLIN's first search for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) with an exposure of 60 live days using a fiducial mass of 5.5 t. A profile-likelihood ratio analysis shows the data to be consistent with a background-only hypothesis, setting new limits on spin-independent WIMP-nucleon, spin-dependent WIMP-neutron, and spin-dependent WIMP-proton cross sections for WIMP masses above 9  GeV/c^{2}. The most stringent limit is set for spin-independent scattering at 36  GeV/c^{2}, rejecting cross sections above 9.2×10^{-48}  cm at the 90% confidence level.

9. Digital approach to estimate clinical images of the cervix with ImageJ software

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Visual inspection and colposcopy are subjective methods of cervical evaluation. Currently, the majority of colposcopes are equipped with the capacity to digitally transmit and record cervical images, in addition to modern software for image processing. For the objective assessment, prevention of development, and risk assessment of precancerous changes (SIL+) and cervical cancer, it is essential to use modern methods of image processing. AIM: The study aimed at demonstrating the capabilities of digital analysis of cervical images based on ImageJ software [1]. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 500 colposcopic images of the Schiller test were obtained during dilated colposcopy. Digital analysis was performed using ImageJ software, which employed minimum (MinGV) and maximum (MaxGV) gray pixel values (0–255) and lesion surface area (%Area) as parameters. The images were divided into 4 groups according to the cytologic examination performed: healthy donors (n=19; 3.8%), mild grade squamous cell intraepithelial lesion (n=113; 22.6%), severe grade squamous cell intraepithelial lesion (n=327; 65.4%), and invasive cervical cancer (n=41; 8.2%). Mathematical and statistical analysis of the obtained data was performed using Python programming language packages in the Google Colab environment. Comparisons of quantitative measures between three or more groups were conducted using the Kruskal-Wallis criterion and posteriori comparisons by Dunn’s criterion with Holm’s correction. RESULSTS: Statistical significance was observed in the increase of MinGV (p=0.035), MaxGV (p0.001) and %Area (p=0.022) from the mild (88/141/31) to the severe (83/142/32) degree of squamous cell intraepithelial lesion and cervical cancer (88/162/36). Objective parameters for the assessment of the degree of cervical surface lesions during digital colposcopy were obtained. Digital analysis of the cervical surface may assist the clinical specialist in determining further management strategies, including scarification or incisional biopsy with subsequent morphological examination. CONCLUSIONS: The application of digital analysis to colposcopic images has the potential to reduce the subjective assessment of cervical condition, enhance the efficiency of the initial appointment with a gynecologist, and facilitate the selection of patients for cytologic examination.

Abstract

LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) is a second-generation direct dark matter experiment with spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering sensitivity above $1.4 \times 10^{-48}$ cm$^{2}$ for a WIMP mass of 40 GeV/c$^{2}$ and a 1000 d exposure. LZ achieves this sensitivity through a combination of a large 5.6 t fiducial volume, active inner and outer veto systems, and radio-pure construction using materials with inherently low radioactivity content. The LZ collaboration performed an extensive radioassay campaign over a period of six years to inform material selection for construction and provide an input to the experimental background model against which any possible signal excess may be evaluated. The campaign and its results are described in this paper. We present assays of dust and radon daughters depositing on the surface of components as well as cleanliness controls necessary to maintain background expectations through detector construction and assembly. Finally, examples from the campaign to highlight fixed contaminant radioassays for the LZ photomultiplier tubes, quality control and quality assurance procedures through fabrication, radon emanation measurements of major sub-systems, and bespoke detector systems to assay scintillator are presented., Comment: 45 pages (79 inc. tables), 7 figures, 9 tables

Abstract

LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) is a second-generation direct dark matter experiment with spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering sensitivity above 1.4×10-48cm2 for a WIMP mass of 40GeV/c2 and a 1000days exposure. LZ achieves this sensitivity through a combination of a large 5.6t fiducial volume, active inner and outer veto systems, and radio-pure construction using materials with inherently low radioactivity content. The LZ collaboration performed an extensive radioassay campaign over a period of six years to inform material selection for construction and provide an input to the experimental background model against which any possible signal excess may be evaluated. The campaign and its results are described in this paper. We present assays of dust and radon daughters depositing on the surface of components as well as cleanliness controls necessary to maintain background expectations through detector construction and assembly. Finally, examples from the campaign to highlight fixed contaminant radioassays for the LZ photomultiplier tubes, quality control and quality assurance procedures through fabrication, radon emanation measurements of major sub-systems, and bespoke detector systems to assay scintillator are presented.

Abstract

We describe the design and assembly of the LUX-ZEPLIN experiment, a direct detection search for cosmic WIMP dark matter particles. The centerpiece of the experiment is a large liquid xenon time projection chamber sensitive to low energy nuclear recoils. Abstract

Nimesulide (NIM) is a nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drug which acts as a selective cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitor and is widely used for acute pain treatment. In medical practice, a large amount of data has been collected describing the effect of NIM on the body, while a hepatotoxic side effect of the drug has been found. The exact mechanisms of such NIM-induced hepatotoxicity largely remain unknown but likely involve the intermediate reaction of its metabolism. Reduction of the hepatotoxic side effect of NIM is an actual problem for pharmacology. The aim of the present research was to evaluate the hepatotoxicity of the mechanochemically obtained composition of NIM with glycyrrhizic acid disodium salt (Na2GA) compared to pure NIM and a physical mixture of NIM with Na2GA. Material and methods. CD-1 mice were orally administered for 14 days: 1 group – mechanochemical composition NIM/Na2GA (1:10, m/m) at a dose of 1650 mg/kg; 2 group – physical mixture of NIM with Na2GA (1:10, m/m) at a dose of 1650 mg/kg; 3 group – pure NIM at a dose of 600 mg/kg (which pharmacokinetically corresponds to 1650 mg/kg of NIM/Na2GA); 4 group – vehicle (distilled water). The liver damage was assessed using histological studies and enzymatic activity of the alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase in blood serum. Results. Histological analysis did not detect any changes in the liver of NIM/Na2GA-treated animals in comparison with a water-treated group. On the opposite, NIM given alone or as a physical mixture with Na2GA induced severe hepatotoxicity in experimental mice. Biochemical analysis of the blood serum revealed that mechanochemical NIM/Na2GA composition significantly reduced activity of the alanine aminotransferase (about 1.5 times) and aspartate aminotransferase (1.3 times) as compared with the pure NIM. Conclusions. The results obtained indicate a high potential for the practical application of the NIM/Na2GA mechanochemical composition.

Abstract

The article deals with the issues of emotional and volitional stability, acting as the leading ones in the system of moral and psychological support for the activities of the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation. The purpose of the article was to analyze the features of emotional and volitional stability of police officers of the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and cadets of the educational organization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The sample is represented by two groups of 119 people, including police officers, 65 people, cadets of the educational organization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia — 54 people. The research methods were presented by the diagnostic unit: the questionnaire for assessing neuropsychic stability “Prognosis-2” (V.Yu. Rybnikov); the test “Lifestyle Analysis” (Boston stress tolerance test), the Individual typological questionnaire L.N. Sobchik, The methodology of the study of the volitional organization of the personality of A.A.Khokhlov, The test questionnaire of A.V. Zverkov and E.V. Eidman “The study of volitional self-regulation”. Research results. The presence of significantly significant differences (p≤0.05) between the groups was established, indicating a higher level of neuropsychic stability, stress resistance and emotional-volitional regulation of police officers, which is determined by age characteristics and character accentuations. The normative indicators in both groups were not exceeded, which generally reflects the quality of professional psychological selection and the stability of the personality of police officers.

Abstract

Objectives. Since the 20th century, artificial intelligence methods can be divided into two paradigms: top-down and bottom-up. While the methods of the ascending paradigm are difficult to interpret as natural language outputs, those applied according to the descending paradigm make it difficult to actualize information. Thus, natural language processing (NLP) by artificial intelligence remains a pressing problem of our time. The main task of NLP is to create applications that can process and understand natural languages. According to the presented approach to the construction of artificial intelligence agents (AI-agents), processing of natural language should be conducted at two levels: at the bottom, methods of the ascending paradigm are employed, while symbolic methods associated with the descending paradigm are used at the top. To solve these problems, the authors of the present paper propose a new mathematical formalism: associative heterarchical memory (AH-memory), whose structure and functionality are based both on bionic principles and on the achievements of top-down and bottom-up artificial intelligence paradigms.Methods. Natural language recognition algorithms were used in conjunction with various artificial intelligence methods.Results. The problem of character binding as applied to AH-memory was explored by the research group in earlier research. Here, abstract symbol binding was performed using multi-serial integration, eventually converting the primary symbols produced by the program into integrated abstract symbols. The present paper provides a comprehensive description of AH-memory in the form of formulas, along with their explanations and corresponding schemes.Conclusions. The most universal structure of AH-memory is presented. When working with AH-memory, a developer should select from a variety of possible module sets those AH-memory components that support the most successful and efficient functioning of the AI-agent.

Abstract

Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) and turnip rape (B. rapa L. subsp. campestris (L.)) are important agricultural plants widely used for food, fodder and technical purposes and as green manure. Over the past decades, a large number of perspective varieties that are being currently cultivated in every region of Russia have been developed. To increase the breeding efficiency and facilitate the seed production, modern molecular-genetic techniques should be introduced as means to estimate species and varietal diversity. The objective of the presented research study was to investigate DNA polymorphism of the rapeseed and turnip rape varieties developed at Federal Williams Research Center of Forage Production and Agroecology and detect informative markers for varietal identification and genetic certification. To genotype 18 gDNA samples, 42 and 25 combinations of respective SSR and SRAP primers were used. The results obtained demonstrate that SRAP markers were more effective for polymorphism analysis: 36 % of the tested markers revealed genetic polymorphism compared with only 16.7 % of microsatellite loci. Molecular markers to detect differences at interspecific and intervarietal levels have also been found. For the investigated set, such microsatellite loci as Na12A02, Ni2C12, Ni02-D08a, Ra02-E01, Ni03H07а and SRAP-marker combinations as F13-R9, Me4-R7, F11-Em2, F10-R7, F9-Em2 and F9-R8 proved to be informative. Application of the two marker techniques made it possible to detect a higher level of DNA polymorphism in plants of different types (spring and winter varieties) if compared against the intervarietal differences within a species or a group. According to Nei’s genetic diversity index, in the cluster of winter rapeseed, VIK 2 and Gorizont varieties had the longest genetic distance, and in the spring cluster, these were Novosel and Veles. A high level of similarity was found between Vikros and Bizon winter rapeseed varieties. The results obtained have a high practical value for varietal specification of seed material and genetic certification of rapeseed and turnip rape varieties.

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of mentorship within the MIA system. The solution to this problem ensures effective adaptation of the personnel to their professions. The sample comprised 91 internal affairs officers. The methodologies used are the following: 1) Diagnostics of Interpersonal Relations (DIR) questionnaire by Sobchik L.N.; 2) Commu-nicative and Organizational Aptitudes (COA) inventory; 3) an authorial methodology for assessing mentors’ professional competence. The results of the study demonstrated that the most significant competences that mentors possess are communication skills, analytical competence and knowledge of the divisions they work for. It has been established that trainees’ estimation of their mentors’ professional competence and knowledge of the divi-sions is better than that of the mentors (p ≤ 0.00001); the latter tend to underestimate their own professional skills, underrate their own virtues, show a lower level of organizational aptitudes, but a higher level of communicative ones. In their interpersonal relations mentors tend to assume an independent-dominant and “bossy”-dominant behavior style.

Abstract

Introduction Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a powerful risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), conferring a greater relative risk in women than men. We sought to examine sex differences in cardiometabolic risk factors and management in the contemporary cohort represented by the Glycemia Reduction Approaches in Diabetes: A Comparative Effectiveness Study (GRADE).Research design and methods GRADE enrolled 5047 participants (1837 women, 3210 men) with T2DM on metformin monotherapy at baseline. The current report is a cross-sectional analysis of baseline data collected July 2013 to August 2017.Results Compared with men, women had a higher mean body mass index (BMI), greater prevalence of severe obesity (BMI≥40 kg/m2), higher mean LDL cholesterol, greater prevalence of low HDL cholesterol, and were less likely to receive statin treatment and achieve target LDL, with a generally greater prevalence of these risk factors in younger women. Women with hypertension were equally likely to achieve blood pressure targets as men; however, women were less likely to receive ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers. Women were more likely to be divorced, separated or widowed, and had fewer years of education and lower incomes.Conclusions This contemporary cohort demonstrates that women with T2DM continue to have a greater burden of cardiometabolic and socioeconomic risk factors than men, particularly younger women. Attention to these persisting disparities is needed to reduce the burden of CVD in women.Trial registration number ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT01794143)

Patients and Methods: of 456 patients who received medical consultations from September 2021 to July 2022, the authors selected 72 (15.8%) children (42 boys and 30 girls) who had a previous SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by serological tests or polymerase chain reaction and in whom herpes viruses were found during serological evaluation. Results: most of the children (81.4%) visited the polyclinic within the first six months after the COVID-19 infection. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was the most prevalent finding among herpesviruses detected in children with post-COVID-19 sequela — it was detected in 44 (61.1%) cases. Human herpesvirus (HHV) 6 and cytomegalovirus (CMV) were less common in this group and found in 41 (56.9%) and 30 (41.7%) children, respectively. HHV-1 and HHV-2 were detected more rarely — in 11 (15.3%) children. Monoinfection was diagnosed in 41 (56.9%) cases and a combination of viruses was found in 31 children, in 22 (71.0%) of them it comprised two viruses, in 6 (19.3%) — three viruses, and in 3 (9.7%) — four viruses. The presence of herpesvirus infections underpinned the main reasons why parents of the ill children were seeking for outpatient care, in particular: a prolonged subfebrile condition (18.0%), fatigue and sleep disorders (27.7%), rashes (16.6%), lymphadenopathy (16.7%), ENT diseases (33.3%), more frequently occurring respiratory diseases (33.3%), and the increase in seizure activity in children with epilepsy (8.3%). In addition to herpes viruses, pathogenic agents were detected in 18% of patients, including intracellular pathogens, which were found in 13.9% of 72 children. Taking into consideration the obtained results and established clinical diagnoses, the authors conducted a review and provided a rationale for the administered drug therapy, including medications for herpes treatment. Conclusion: a prior COVID-19 infection induces immunosuppression and, as a result, the activation of herpesvirus infections as long-term effects of COVID-19 (post-COVID conditions). The presence of mixed viral and bacterial pathogens is an indication for administering antivirals, immunomodulators, antibacterial agents, and probiotics. Abstract

Local muon density spectra (LMDS) at various zenith angles have been reconstructed from the data of two detectors of the Experimental complex NEVOD. The inclined muon bundles at the ground level were detected with the coordinate detector DECOR, and for the near-vertical direction with the calibration telescope system (CTS) of the Cherenkov water detector. In comparison with the earlier DECOR results, the experimental statistics has been increased by 2-3 times for different ranges of zenith angle and muon bundle multiplicity and is now based on about 40,000 h of the setup operation. The live time of measurements with CTS is about 12,000 h. It is found with both setups that the slope of LMDS is increasing above the primary energy of about 1017 eV.
