32. Dam Breach Analysis and Damage Assessment of Nova Kakhovka Dam using Satellite data and 1D and 2D Hydrodynamic Modeling.

Abstract

A dam is a man-made structure that crosses a river or other body of water intending to hold water and create a reservoir. When a dam fails, it results in the loss of lives and economic devastation, which directly depends on factors like water depth, velocity, warning time, and the presence of people in the affected area. Dam failure necessitates the use of dam-break modeling, which evaluates the flood characteristics such as the discharge and timing of flood waves resulting from the dam's breach. This study focuses on examining the two breach scenarios of the Kakhovka dam located in Ukraine. The analysis utilized the HEC-RAS software, a widely recognized tool for hydraulic modeling. Multiple breach parameters, including breach width, breach depth, and breach time, were considered to evaluate their impact on downstream flooding. The model is utilized to assess the potential outcomes of a dam break in downstream areas, including factors such as water level rise, travel time of flood waves, flow velocity, and other parameters. The resulting flood plain was also mapped using GIS tools to show the extent of flooding. Damage assessment for the downstream area was also done by using remote sensing based LULC. The study estimated 35962 m3/sec of peak discharge from the 300-meter dam breach scenario and the flood extent (823 km2) from this scenario also matched with the actual situation as observed by remote sensing data. Abstract

Rapid evolution of information technology has contributed to the evolution of more sophisticated E- commerce system with the better transaction time and protection. The currently used E-commerce models lack in quality properties such as logical security because of their poor designing and to face the highly equipped and trained intruders. This editorial proposed a security framework for small and medium sized E-commerce, based on service oriented architecture and gives an analysis of the eminent security attacks which can be averted. The proposed security framework will be implemented and validated on an open source E-commerce, and the results achieved so far are also presented.

Abstract

Rapid increases in information technology also changed the existing markets and transformed them into e- markets (e-commerce) from physical markets. Equally with the e-commerce evolution, enterprises have to recover a safer approach for implementing E-commerce and maintaining its logical security. SOA is one of the best techniques to fulfill these requirements. SOA holds the vantage of being easy to use, flexible, and recyclable. With the advantages, SOA is also endowed with ease for message tampering and unauthorized access. This causes the security technology implementation of E-commerce very difficult at other engineering sciences. This paper discusses the importance of using SOA in E-commerce and identifies the flaws in the existing security analysis of E-commerce platforms. On the foundation of identifying defects, this editorial also suggested an implementation design of the logical security framework for SOA supported E-commerce system.

Abstract

With the emergence of the web, traditional learning has changed significantly. Hence, a huge number of 'e-learning systems' with the advantages of time and space have been created. Currently, many e-learning systems are being used by a large number of academic institutions worldwide which allow different users of the system to perform various tasks based on their goals. However, most of these systems follow a 'one size fits all' approach where same resources are offered to learners irrespective of their unique learning requirements. Therefore, personalization is required as a part of e-learning systems which offers resources to learners based on their profile. This research aims to perform cluster analyses in order to validate clusters created through a k-means algorithm. The clusters will be used to classify a new learner into its appropriate class and recommend relevant courses. Finally, the accuracy of the recommendation is evaluated using various evaluation metrics. The proposed recommendation system helps learners to improve their academic performance and hence overall learning process as well.

Abstract

Cross-lingual information retrieval (CLIR) is a challenging task that requires overcoming linguistic barriers to match user queries with relevant documents in different languages. One of the major challenges in CLIR is the lack of parallel corpora, which hinders the development of effective translation models. This challenge can be addressed using snippets as a dataset to train CLIR models. Snippets can be automatically extracted from various sources, such as search engine result pages and can provide a rich and diverse set of collections for cross-lingual information retrieval. This paper initially discusses the challenges in CLIR and then explores the use of snippets as a dataset which can lead towards the development or improvements in the techniques to improve the retrieval effectiveness and further discusses the advantages and limitations of using snippets dataset in CLIR.

Abstract

A tagger is a mandatory segment of most text scrutiny systems, as it consigned a s yntax class (e.g., noun, verb, adjective, and adverb) to every word in a sentence. In this paper, we present a simple part of speech tagger for homoeopathy clinical language. This paper reports about the anticipated part of speech tagger for homoeopathy clinical language. It exploit standard pattern for evaluating sentences, untagged clinical corpus of 20085 words is used, from which we had selected 125 sentences (2322 tokens). The problem of tagging in natural language processing is to find a way to tag every word in a text as a meticulous part of speech. The basic idea is to apply a set of rules on clinical sentences and on each word, Accuracy is the leading factor in evaluating any POS tagger so the accuracy of proposed tagger is also conversed.
